MFP to lose weight

Emz449 · 30/05/2015 18:31

Hello! I'm starting this thread to make myself accountable and as motivation. I've been using MFP for 16 days now and have lost 6lbs, really enjoying it and finding it so easy to use. I'll be posting weigh ins as and when as I am a frequent weigher! Hopefully the loses will continue Grin I started in Janaury as 14 stone 11lbs Shock but I've become complacent

Starting weight - 14 stone 11lbs
Current weight - 12 stone 5lbs
Goal weight - Currently 10 stone 11lbs but I think that I will aim lower once I reach that

On 1,450 a day with an active lifestyle. Would be great to see other peoples loses and experiences with MFP, annoyed I didn't start it sooner!

Struggling here today. Feeling a bit down on myself, which is usually when I hit the biscuit tin. Obviously I can't, so that is adding to my feeling bleuh. What's more, with the nice weather it just makes me feel worse about my weight as I can't fit into any of my summer clothes (this is the 3rd year now).

Sorry folks to be miserable. Don't know where all my positive energies have gone. Struggling to resist food as a pick-me-up treat. I've planned my cals today so I mustn't.

Hope everyone else are doing better!!!

Emz449 · 16/06/2015 19:02

Sorry to hear you're feeling down Bathsheba do you have room to have a biscuit or two? Or maybe go for a walk if you can to get some fresh air and earn some extra calories? If you feel down maybe having an evening off and you might feel better tomorrow. Alternatively think of all the great work you've done recently with your weight loss, you've done so well
Flowers I hope you feel better soon

Bathsheba3, have a day off (but don't go made with that biscuit tin!). In the words of Scarlet O'Hara ... " tomorrow is another day!" Get back on the wagon first thing in the morning!

Bathsheba3 · 16/06/2015 19:23

Thanks Emz for kind words. No, no biscuits. It is them, and the wine, and the crisps, and the rest of the rubbish that has got me in to this mess! I am an emotional eater (good or bad!). I think part of my problem today is that I've now done 2 whole weeks with no sugar (& no wine!) of any description, and low carbs too. I've eaten the odd potato or brown rice, and rye bread. But no rubbish or processed carbs.

I am very grumpy to realise how hard work this is. 12 stone 7 is NOT a good place for me to be. Even though it is 7 lbs less than I was 2 weeks ago.

I get to this point in every diet - 2 weeks in, 7 lbs lost, have a grump, and then stuff my face again. I shall not this time, not when I have you lovely MNr's on this supportive thread suffering with me! I shall be in the 11's again, if not by the end of June, than def beginning of July.

I shall climb into my shell again for the evening & stop casting my negativity onto you all. Sorry for droning on ... but thank you for allowing me to. Wink

Bathsheba3 · 16/06/2015 19:26

X-post Eliza. Yes, you are very right, tomorrow is another day. Am just going to pour a diet ginger ale as a treat!

Emz449 · 16/06/2015 19:33

This might sound silly but have you tried something to keep you occupied? Like knitting? I find it oddly therapeutic and it takes my mind off things. Or even a good box set, I sailed through orange is the new black this weekend to keep my mind off food Grin

Bathsheba I've recommended this book to so many people now, and now it's your turn! It makes a great read to take your mind off food and gives you some fantastic tools for managing your weight loss in the very best way for you. It's not a self-help book, but a novel, called "Ada's Rules", about a woman whose life is not her own any more, ruled by her weight, impending diabetes and the dread that her husband is having an affair. She goes around her community asking people either how they got thin or stay thin, and gradually makes herself a list of 'rules to live by', which aren't all about dieting, but mostly about enriching her whole life. It's a fantastic book, and I re-read it just before I started this effort to lose my baby weight, as I find it so motivational. Give it a go, it might help you get over the two week hump!

Hrumph Angry

My 2nd day on mfp was all going well and I had my dinner all cooking in the slow-cooker etc etc etc

Then I had a stupid killer-stitch half-way through my run and I literally couldn't go any further as it was agony! I had to turn around and walk home which means that the extra calories I had accounted for were actually null and void Sad

No dessert for me then. And I still ended up 83cal over my target today.

Stupid stitch...

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 16/06/2015 21:01

I managed just over an hour of exercise today (which apparently equates to 365 extra calories). I've managed not to eat them all so far

JontyDoggle37 · 16/06/2015 21:01

cheapandcheerful - looking on the bright side, you've had the willpower t avoid dessert, and you've only gone over by 83 calories, which is absolutely fine. You're doinng great!

Emz449 · 16/06/2015 21:33

83 calories is nothing cheapandcheerful plus you went running, even though it was cut short

OP posts:
Emz449 · 16/06/2015 21:34

Posted too soon, meant to say that's great you went running, I'm hoping to give it a go when my backs feeling a bit better! Are you following any type of plan?

OP posts:
flanjabelle · 16/06/2015 22:07

I have lost the weight in just over three months So far. :)

cheapandcheerful · 16/06/2015 22:11

Thanks emz...a plan for running? Not exactly...

I did the couch-to-5k program over the winter and have now signed up for parkrun (weekly free 5k timed events in parks all over the place).

My general aim is to do 5k twice a week. At the moment I'm managing once a week...

Bathsheba3 · 17/06/2015 07:11

Flanjabelle - that is amazing weight loss. Well done you! Are you feeling great on it? What is your daily calorie allowance?

I'm going to try and get out for a run this morning, before it gets too hot. It might just give me the seratonin boost I need (isn't that the one you get from exercise? same as from chocolate?!). Lots of work to do today too, so must focus.

flanjabelle · 17/06/2015 07:41

Thank you! I started off at 1200 for the first two months, then upped it to 1370 once I got into a healthy bmi as I didn't feel such a rush to get it off. It's carried on coming off just as quickly at 1370 though to be honest.

I am feeling really good! I think the exercise really helps too. I feel sexier and so much better in clothes.

The only thing that is really bugging me is my mummy tummy. the weight seems to be sticking there more than anywhere. My collarbones and shoulder bones are sticking out, my legs are skinny, but my belly is still awful!! It's always been my worst area though.

Well done all of you with your running! I don't really do much running, more walking. I'm not a natural runner!

Bathsheba3 · 17/06/2015 08:46

Very pleased to report the cloud has lifted, and I am just back from a run (30 mins plod, but still every little helps) Smile

I am certainly no runner Flangabelle - but I preserved and actually it isn't so bad. And it's outside, and it's free. So good to read your story too that it is possible to go from 12 8 to 10 9. I'll keep the 1200 going through July too if I can, although I plan to start the wine again next month.

Hope everyone else are OK?

Emz449 · 17/06/2015 08:56

That's so good flanjabelle your start and current weights are similar to mine so very inspiring! I hope I'm 10 something in a few months Smile

cheapandcheerful I was thinking of starting to C25K, what did you think of it? Cardio is not my strong point but I do want to improve!

Glad to hear you're feeling better Bathsheba and congrats on the run and getting up to do it, I can barely drag myself out of bed in the morning to put make up on!

I'm back to 12 St 3 this morning thankfully, hoping for 2 lbs off this week which would be great

Dogseggs · 17/06/2015 10:38

morning all, good to read how you are all getting on. Keep up the good work!

Glad you are feeling a little brighter today, bathsheba. We are a similar weight (I am 12st 8 today - started at 12st 12) and I know how easy it is to get disheartened and reach for the snacks. The only way I can stop myself is to not buy them when I do the food shopping - I am so hopeless at resisting temptation. I googled 'what does 1lb of fat look like?' - it's massive!! That made me feel better about slow but steady weight loss.

I've really enjoyed eating healthily these last few days, and I can see my double chin has already shrunk a bit.

Emz449 · 17/06/2015 11:56

2 people today have commented on my weight loss Smile I'm wearing a slightly tighter dress than usual so maybe it's showing more. Quite proud actually Smile

JontyDoggle37 · 17/06/2015 15:36

Had anogher 1lb weight loss this morning, now down to 12st 3.5lb, although just fell off the wagon slightly as came over really tired and baby is crying so I can't snooze at the moment, so had some chocolate. Oh well, win some, lose some. I ran 1.5 miles this morning, and still have to luck out and exercise horses, so I should burn it off.

Bathsheba3 · 17/06/2015 17:23

Too right you should be proud of yourself Emz - and great loss Jonty! I have ordered the book btw - thank you. Need bit of positive chick-lit.

Emz449 · 17/06/2015 20:06

Thank you!

Well done on your loss Jonty

How's your day gone Bathsheba?

OP posts:
cheapandcheerful · 17/06/2015 20:18

Couch-to-5k was amazing emz!

I have never been able to run for more than 5 minutes, even when I did loads of sports at school. I just couldn't do it. I was a heaving wreck and I swear it made my lungs bleed!

It took me 9 weeks to complete the c25k program and now I can run 5k without stopping in just over 30 mins.

Sansarya · 17/06/2015 20:22

Can I join in? I've just started using MFP today. After the birth of DS 15 months ago the weight fell off me in a couple of weeks and pretty soon I was 5kg lighter than I was when I got pregnant. I maintained this until about March but going back to work and cutting back on breastfeeding means that I've now put back 4 of these kilos and am keen to lose them again. I do about 4-5 exercise classes a week and walk a fair bit but I think the months of being able to scoff cakes and biscuits with no consequence made me complacent. So I'm on 1200 calories now, and if I stick to it MFP tells me I can lose it in about 5 weeks time. Wish me luck!
