2015 Mumsnet Weightloss Club anyone?

This is it I really need to get fit and slim down this year, my son is getting faster all the time and I feel like I'm letting him down being overweight as I can't keep up.

I've done slimming clubs (WW and SS) in the past and really like the support but I've always drifted off after a bad week or two and begun making excuses not to go. There's no way I'm giving up mumsnet and I find it easier to be brutally honest online so would anyone like to join me for support, tip sharing and the all important weekly weigh in?

I'm starting on Monday 5th as I find it easier to be distracted from food when I'm at work and will have finished the Xmas chocs by then and will be using MFP and my shiny new fitbit to track but anything goes on this thread it's all about the support!

Hopefully someone will come keep me company Xmas Grin

I'm in. I'm 13 stone, 5 ft 7 and want to lose 2 stones. What's MFP??

CaroleService · 03/01/2015 19:06

I'm in too. I'm at least three stone overweight. Had already lost a decent amount, but lost my way over the holidays.

BiggerYellowTaxi · 03/01/2015 19:17

MFP= My Fitness Pal which is a free calorie and exercise tracker which you can get as an app or use the website. I love it.

SalaciousCrumb · 03/01/2015 20:31

I am bracing myself to start properly on Monday Carole I've lost my way over Christmas too, but hope to get back on the wagon easing myself into it tomorrow.

My slow cooker will be my friend with plenty of low fat soups, curries etc.

bakingtins · 03/01/2015 22:19

Thank you taxi and kiwi I will investigate adding recipes.

loveableshoulder · 04/01/2015 06:19

Salacious have you got any good slow cooker recipes? I definitely underuse mine.

snozcumber79 · 04/01/2015 08:29

Hi everyone,I'm in! I'm 35,married with one ds (2) and after being on ad I've put on two stone. I'm now off them so hoping 2015 is the year for me to get back into a size 12-14! I've done sw and find it works for me but don't like eating anything with aspartame in so avoid diet drinks etc.. Just going to try eating healthy varied diet, sugar free and low carb combined with doing a jillian Michaels shred dvd daily Smile having support is one of the best motivators which is why I've joined this thread Smile good luck everyone!

snozcumber79 · 04/01/2015 08:31

I'd be interested in slow cooker recipes too! Think I've used mine twiceHmm

How's everyone doing? Yesterday went ok for me: potential danger at two kids birthday parties - at the first I ate a few carrot sticks and grapes, second I had a restrained portion of Italian beef sandwich with peppers (my friend is Korean-American and an AMAZING cook) and no cake or pud. A few almonds when I got home.

I'm currently scrapbooking my old running mags so reading the nutrition clips helped! My big challenge this week is to cut down on artificial sweeteners: I can drink pints of low-cal squash but ignore water Hmm

Today: eggs and mushrooms on rye toast, no butter for breakfast. Lunch: planning salad, with avocado, spinach and prob tinned mackerel. A run later, then asian noodle soup for tea, with some beef from our NYD roast. Nuts if I'm hungry. That's the plan, at least?!

Anyone have any good low-sugar snack/breakfast ideas?

youbethemummylion · 04/01/2015 10:38

I'm still sticking to my plan, I had fat free yogurt with sugar free museli and a few berries for breakfast. I'm planning on Mackerel pate on rye crisp breads with salad for lunch and vegetable spag bol without the spag for tea. I'm worrying once I'm back at work tomorrow I'm going to really struggle, I dont have time to eat at work and inbetween getting in from work and picking the kids up I tend to raid the cupboards/fridge!

CharlesRyder · 04/01/2015 10:43

I have lost a lb without doing anything other than swapping alcohol for loads and loads of water.

Headline news is that the Christmas food is now GONE so I am starting healthy eating today. I am also thinking about going for a walk/ run. Maybe just to the end of the village and back..

How are people finding their fitbits? I am tempted- love a gadget.

Well done to everybody so far Flowers

loveableshoulder · 04/01/2015 12:06

mummylion can you have something delicious and healthy waiting for you in the fridge? Sushi? Humous and carrot sticks? Fat free yoghurt with a few nuts?

youbethemummylion · 04/01/2015 13:06

loveable I think thats what ill have to do, I'm thinking if I make something up the night before and leave it in the fridge for when I get in I can just stick to eating that and not pick at things. Then I just have to get through cooking the kids tea without helping them finish their plates. Oh and the Tesco reduced section was hell today they had whole rounds of stilton for 20p!!!!! It took all I had to walk away from that cheese!!!

loveableshoulder · 04/01/2015 13:24

It's so bloody hard, isn't it? Sad

ANewMe2015 · 04/01/2015 13:29

I binge ate last night. IN stages. But half a panetonne and several slices of toast were involved. I thought I'd done ok yesterday but then you look at the whole evening and its no wonder I'm this big!

ItsaTenfromDen · 04/01/2015 13:47

Charles I love my fitbit, got it for xmas so it's all a bit new to me

Day four, and so far it's going ok

Did have afternoon tea yesterday for DD2 birthday, but I managed to be quite restrained and only had a small piece of cake

loveableshoulder · 04/01/2015 15:06

ANew I do the same: complete obsession with calories so that I have eaten about 1500 by the end of dinner, which is my aim. Then I eat 500 more in about ten minutes Hmm I mean, what is the point??!!

Rinkydinkypink · 04/01/2015 15:40

Day 2 and I'm struggling. Dd is cutting her back teeth and frankly its utter hell! She's not sleeping, crying, whingy, clingy and emotionally I'm so down. PND is very bad today and frankly I just want food Hmm

I've been very good. I've only eaten brunch so far today. 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 1 black pud, tomatoes and mushrooms. Lots of water and been for a brisk (stressful!) walk. No picking, no cheating. I could murder some cake or chocolate but I'm not actually hungry.

I'll be so disappointed in me if I give in!

loveableshoulder · 04/01/2015 16:53

Don't give in Rinky But remember that if you do you are still a good person who is strong enough to do this...and just get straight back on it.

CharlesRyder · 04/01/2015 17:05

Keep going Rinky. I'm reading The Gabriel Method which you might find interesting. Talks about how emotional stress can keep us fat.

Itsa I might wait for a fitbit chargeHR I think. Maybe as a present for losing some weight! Grin

I walked round the walls of Maiden Castle today and have decided that counts for today's exercise. Done 3.5l of water- 1.5 to go. However, I did eat some crisps at lunch time. Doh.

postmanpatsnewyearresolution · 04/01/2015 17:20

I'd like to join in. I'm about ten pounds heavier than I was when we left to go on holiday in the middle of August. I'd like to lose about 8 of those by the end of this half term. I run regularly and want to enter another half marathon to raise money for breast cancer charities as my sister has it. Losing the excess weight will make running easier.

I use mfp to log exercise and will go back to logging food too. I have a dairy intolerance that I have a tendency to ignore so I'm doing a two week detox first followed by four weeks of healthy eating and plenty of exercise.

Well done to those who have started to lose weight already.

petalsandstars · 04/01/2015 17:22

I have been mostly asleep today after nights but have decided to finish the Christmas dessert tonight and get on it properly tomorrow. Must make better plans for nights.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 04/01/2015 17:33

Ive decided that for 6 weeks I'm going to exercise and try and work on my binging and portion control before I make the effort to lose weight (if that makes sense)

I'm hoping I can get portion control under control (using the guidelines on the box, I've been having a bowls of cereal and pasta that are FOUR portions Shock )

I'm hoping that by re educating myself I can make this a lifestyle change rather then a diet iygwim

Does anyone know if posting on the mn group shows up on your timeline for others to see?

SalaciousCrumb · 04/01/2015 17:34

I've just pounded our home treadmill for 20 minutes and now just about to peel potatoes, veggies for a roast dinner. Very few roast potatoes for me and a pile of veg. But I am really hungry so just had a large banana!
petal I agree it is best to be planned and organised.
Does anybody have a slow cooker? They are great for making low cal soups; put them on in the morning and they'll be done in a few hours.
