Need to lose weight but know the booze is my major downfall! Need a buddy(s) to do dryathlon with to keep the motivation up and to raise cash for Macmillan cancer support. My DH guffawed when I said, ..... Want to lose lbs at the same time (ps dryathlon is to keep off th booze for all January). I am 13 st 4 lbs and could do with losing a few stone too....eeek

Can I join? I need to shift some weight and have also been consuming far more wine than I really should (least half a bottle a night.) I am also starting to feel a bit bloaty and grim and some time off the booze will do me the world of good I reckon. I just need to stay motivated and not crack!

Will have a read through the thread while DS is in the bath.

You can do this willthis!
Hi nancery!
Day six! Just had a hot Choc. Feeling good. I had a great day at work today....I was smokin'!!!! The clear head felt great and I steamed through loads! Usually a bit sluggish on a Monday.
I swear my skin felt smoother this morning too.....
Anyone else noticing the benefit yet?

Nancery · 06/01/2014 20:38

Thanks Spud!
Tell me about the soon to be felt benefits I can look forward to....?!

spudmasher · 06/01/2014 21:02

I think it depends on how much you drank before! I was drinking 4 nights a week in the run up to Xmas- 3 big glasses of wine and more on a party night....too much!
I'm on day 6 now. Felt groggy in the mornings for the first few days, but felt sparky and bright this morning! I'm still finding it hard to get to sleep but I think it's because I'm not so tired! I'm able to stay up longer I think! Just generally more energy. I did it last year too and it really moderated my drinking for the rest of the year- much healthier relationship with booze.......nice but not essential for fun!

Willthisworknow · 06/01/2014 22:09

Totally struggling tonight - obviously work is mt trigger. Feeling a bit better now I'm having dinner (yes at 10 pm at night). i work from home full time so with kids here, so having to help clear up after them and back to hellish workload... Got a headache.poor husband only had 3 hours sleep. I had about 5. Am rubbish on little sleep so loads of chocolate had today and no opportunity to get dogs out for a walk. Kids have slept all day so they are now fine and wide awake.... But they have to stay off school/ nursery for 48 hrs! Joy! Tomorrow will be better!

Well done everyone else and all welcome!

Spud, I was drinking a couple of large spritzers most nights but with the excuse of Christmas it has been creeping up. We got a couple of cases of Chablis with Tesco points and they were delicious! As was the case of Prosecco we got from my dad. As was the fizz my aunt and uncle gave us etc etc

Hence, I really ought to cut it out for a bit. This is day 1 as Monday seemed neater somehow.

Signing in Smile

Pumpkin567 · 07/01/2014 17:47

Spud, I think I had trouble sleeping for a few days last year, then I slept really well.

My skin looks good ( if I say so myself) I also feel much sharper in the morning and less grumpy with the children.

Water again for me, i'm finding it really easy this year. It must be because I moderated my drinking and got used to not drinking every night.

Anyway, I'm cutting the caffeine out this week which is going well....Sugar on the other hand, I think I'm going to really struggle with that one.

Willthisworknow · 07/01/2014 18:24

I'm struggling - another stressful day at work (ongoing - work from home full time) though I DID got for,a five mile walk at lunchtime. Note to self, wear walking socks! The blisters on the balls of my feet, ouch!

How are you doing Willthis? Sounds like you're having a tough couple of days....but you've lasted this far....so you can cope with anything now!

Friday will be a test for me. Long week at work always finished with a few glasses of wine. DH have already started discussing Friday night strategy!

Willthisworknow · 07/01/2014 19:29

Yes was tote ok the last time I did this after a couple of days. Kids have been ill, sleeping patterns everywhere and so the wired at bedtime. No real relaxation the past couple of days - esp with the interruptions when dealing with clients. Still son DEFO going back to,school! Oh and the house is a TIP!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/01/2014 21:52

Grin moocowGrin . Over a quarter anyway!

DH has managed two dry days, having said he wouldn't drink during the weekHmm

Willthisworknow · 09/01/2014 08:59

Can I join in too? I'm trying no caffeine, nicotine or alcohol for Jan. So far surprisingly it's the tea and wine I'm missing most!

but am struggling a bit at the moment - last nights meeting ending at 10pm made it feel like wine was needed to wind down - but I didn't so yah for not having wine in the house...

I am still waiting for the clear head and bright mornings - aren't I meant to be feeling fabulous by now?

Willthisworknow · 09/01/2014 11:51

Now that's just too much at once. I'm drinking tea like there's no tomorrow - but I don't smoke thankfully. I'm missing WINE oh so much. We have some in, but still sitting there. Kids back to nursery so feeling calmer now so tonight might be less hard. Tho visiting head office next week and they're talking of going out to the pub in my honour! Cokes all round yay! That's going to go down well......

OP posts:
chaosmonkey · 09/01/2014 12:06

Oh no! Head office and cokes... not good...

At least if you give up everything you're body is so confused it doesn't know what to crave first...

spookyskeleton · 10/01/2014 07:15

Well if we can get this weekend and any Wine temptations out of the way, we will be a third of the way there...sounds quite good doesn't it? Grin

chaosmonkey · 10/01/2014 09:34

That does sound good. Maybe we can do this.

Is anyone else worried by how hard this is?

spudmasher · 10/01/2014 19:07

Yes, tonight is hard...just out of habit, I fancy a glass of wine. It's Friday!!! It doesn't feel like Friday without the glass of wine!
