Need to lose weight but know the booze is my major downfall! Need a buddy(s) to do dryathlon with to keep the motivation up and to raise cash for Macmillan cancer support. My DH guffawed when I said, ..... Want to lose lbs at the same time (ps dryathlon is to keep off th booze for all January). I am 13 st 4 lbs and could do with losing a few stone too....eeek

Right, I'm starting today as promised near the start of the thread. My seasonal social life is now over Sad

I usually attack a bottle of wine on a Saturday night, so this evening will be a bit of a test.

MetellaInCulinaBibit · 04/01/2014 17:59

after starting off fine, even last night, I'm really fancying a glass of red tonight. Sad

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/01/2014 18:08

I am steeling myself for my neighbour's annual drinks party. I've been fine not drinking at home, but this will be my first challenge out of the house. I expect everyone else will be drinking, but will just say I'm doing dry January.

DH has suggested only staying an hour, as we are taking DC with us. Fine by me Smile

Willthisworknow · 04/01/2014 21:45

Sat night and friend in Belgium had a photo of 3 cool beers of Stella Artois on Facebook, damn her! Still day 4. Will get easier once kids back at school nursery and the daily grind! All welcome.

Anyone doing the sponsorship thing? I have nada so far.....

I am doing the sponsorship thing have got over £200 so far, really pleased and does help to keep,me,focused.,

rusmum · 05/01/2014 08:24

I'm in dry until dec 2014 hopefully Shock

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/01/2014 11:38

I survived the party - lot of raised eyebrows from hostess, who seemed to think me rude for not wanting her mulled wine (yuk), and some other people there said that they were thinking of doing a dry January, but decided not to because they knew they were going to the party and would want a drink (weaklings Grin).

It was great waking up this morning after a good night's sleep with a clear head.

MizK · 05/01/2014 12:05

Another weekend night down, yeeessss! Not too worried about the week ahead, will be in the library doing uni work, at the gym or running around after children so wouldn't be drinking anyway, feeling good about this :) remind me of this by Friday when I'm craving a cocktail!
rusmum wow a whole year! I'm sure the health benefits of that will be immense, good on you.
ohone well done for sticking to the plan! People can get weird when somebody is dieting/not drinking etc, think it makes them feel defensive over what they're having, v strange. A clear head and feeling rested after a night out is definitely a good incentive to go dry, no more hangovers for January at least!

Bowlersarm · 05/01/2014 12:35

Well done ohoneoh surviving so early on is great. Well done to everybody else too. Have friends coming for lunch shortly, but got some lovely fizzy elderflower in for me to drink, while they're quaffing the wine.

I'm really enjoying waking up in the morning with a totally clear head-have had one groggy morning but satisfying to know that whatever caused it, it wasn't wine!

rusman that sounds quite a challenge!

Pumpkin567 · 05/01/2014 17:00

I'm still in, despite a weekend with drinking friends!
Tomorrow caffeine is going and next week I'm going to cut down the sugar. ( lots of research on evil sugar compelling me to cut it down)

5 days down. Not missing it, just like last year.

Having a nice lemonade tonight ( full of sugar )

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/01/2014 17:18

Thanks MizK and Bowlers.

Pumpkin good idea to cut down in stages. I'm not missing booze, but still want a coffee to get me going in the morning Smile

moocowmrs · 05/01/2014 19:07

Had ds birthday party today, lovely but a g and t would help me recover oh well doing to have an ice cold ginger ale instead x

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/01/2014 19:38

I'm on the hot ribena. DH has a large glass of white wine Hmm.

angeltattoo · 05/01/2014 20:22

Well hello.

Please can I join you?

I am aiming for a dry January, failed and had a few glasses last night, but had 2 instead of 6 so it's a start :-)

And no more now. Just had a steak and managed not open a bottle of red. I want to loose my baby weight by April; obviously managed not to drink for 9 months while pg, but it's so hard without a reason :-/

So count me in!

Willthisworknow · 05/01/2014 21:44

Night 5 without woo hoo, not had 5 nights off since preggers/bf (shockingly 18 months ago). Had friends over and got wine in but only my friend quaffed red wine while her hubby and us were sober. She's already lost loads of weight over the last year so looks good regardless. We sent the rest of the bottle home with her. Now to cut back on a few calories tomorrow and try and do a long walk with the dogs tomorrow. Only 26 nights to go (longer for some others). Still no sponsorship BOO. To be fair I haven't dropped it in people's inboxes yet - just shared on Facebook but looks like I'm going to have to get the cash tin rattling!

Well done all and the more the merrier, even those who've fallen off the wagon temporarily. Jan is a long month!

russianmule · 05/01/2014 21:55

I'm starting tomorrow until February 14th. I need to lose weight and sick of yuk morning heads. Finished off two glasses of white tonight and hiding the rest.

Bowlersarm · 05/01/2014 22:02

Night 5 completed here too.

I'm not asking for sponsorship, but have promised myself I'll send a cheque off at the end of the month to a couple of favourite charities (regardless of succeeding or not, I think).

DH and friends we had to lunch demolished a few bottles of wine. And I am patting myself on the back for resisting. Was sooooo tempted to have that first glass of cool white wine, but soooo pleased now that I didn't!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/01/2014 07:15

Well done for resisting Bowlers and Willthisworknow - I always think it's harder when others are drinking around you.

Welcome to our not-so merry band angel and russian Smile

Pumpkin567 · 06/01/2014 07:30

Day 6!

I skipped the lemonade and had water last night Smile
I have a clear head this morning, yippee, good as it's first day back at school.

Willthisworknow · 06/01/2014 08:01

Oh lord lucky you - all my kids have woke up with D and V. So much for getting them back to nursery/school! Now we have to keep them off until 48 hrs after the last bit of D or V! Still..... Day 6! Hope all of your clear heads are keeping you motivated!

OP posts:
chickydoo · 06/01/2014 08:12

Think I will join from today if that's ok. I don't drink masses probably maximum of 6-7 drinks over a week ( more over Christmas) am going to take it a day at a time. Don't need to loose weight really, but am fed up with big bags under my eyes, maybe cutting out the booze is the way forward.
Am going to limit my tea/coffee intake to a max of 3 cups a day too.
Will try herbal instead.

spookyskeleton · 06/01/2014 08:33

willthis poor you...I have been counting the days till the kids go back as they have been driving me potty Grin hope yours are better soon.

well done to everyone for resisting Smile have not struggled at all so far but DH is also doing it so there is no temptation at the moment. Motivation is still good though - ask me again in a couple of weeks Wink

rusmum · 06/01/2014 18:10

First 6 days been ok for me too Wink drop in the ocean but start Wine on lime and soda here

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/01/2014 18:28

Hope your littlies are better soon Willthis!

Willthisworknow · 06/01/2014 18:36
