New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Sadly you find easing of then retrying actually makes reaction flare even more I did the same with gluten was of for months retried and it was awful reaction

Cooking more means Yiu hacd better control of what dd is eating ( not sure how old she is )

Yes Yiu can roast a chicken in a slow cooker it's so tender it falls apart

RubyGates · 03/01/2013 07:43

Can I play! me! me! me ! Please!?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/01/2013 07:47

Enough is enough.

Not waiting until Monday, I'm starting today.

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/01/2013 07:52

Mumat39 try the kleftiko recipe on the mumsnet recipe pages it is our favourite one so far for the slow cooker.

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/01/2013 07:56

Thesloppelganger I think that list is ok as a reference although it looks US based so if you aren't in the US you'll have to then double check things here if that makes sense.

Essexgirl - sorry I am not sure about quorn, hopefully someone can help soon. Do you eat fish? I think someone called rose Elliot had a book about low carb vegetarianism which has been recommended a lot to others if that helps.

ChristmasJubilee · 03/01/2013 08:06

I seem to have fallen off the list and am on my I-pad. Could someone put me back on again please?

I have also fallen off the wagon, so to speak. 2 glasses of red last night - must do better. I will start proper on Monday!

Many thanks.

BlackAffronted · 03/01/2013 08:10

Still eager to get started on Sat! Cant do today, as I havent stocked the fridge with low carb goodies :( and tomorrow is DHs birthday & will have my last blow-out of cake & booze with him.

In the 10 week bootcamp, Id like to lose 10lb, so thats 1lb a week and doable.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 03/01/2013 08:14

Morning everyone.

Im on day 4 of low carbing and not yet noticed any difference in my weight, its been a while since Ive tried low carbing 'properly' and I think I became quite lax with watching how much milk I was having - especially in the cold weather and Im having endless cups of tea Blush So Im limiting myself to one hot drink a day with milk and see if that makes any difference. Im fine having cream in my cooking, but I dont like it in coffee Sad I also find that black coffee/fruit teas give me a bit of a sore throat and I dont like them so much. Any other ideas/thoughts on either weight loss or hot beverages would be much appreciated Grin

Anyway Ive had eggs this morning, and half a coffee with cream (rest I had to pour away!) Will keep on with the water

Stylelostinlabour · 03/01/2013 08:29

Day 2 and have had a banging head since 2am this morning when I woke from a hideous dream where I was drowning in marshmallow... I don't even like marshmallow but it was so real like I was kicking and screaming trying to escape this must be sugar withdrawal and I didn't think I did much sugar as don't do cakes, biscuits and choc how strange.

Have had to taken some headache tablets to function

One pint of water down already another 4 to go

B scrambled eggs
L soup
D salmon and lots of veg

Have a good day everyone.

JessicaWakefield · 03/01/2013 08:34

Thanks BIWI that's really informative. I think I'll go for rapeseed oil and see how I get on with that. Have a good day everyone.

Have added self to list. The numbers on here are unbelievable!

MulledwineGless · 03/01/2013 08:42

Guymartins - make sure you measure yourself if you don't feel likeyou are losing weight. it can be quite disheartening I'm stepping on the scale but not losing
Have you tried soya milk? That's lower in carbs?

FallingOver · 03/01/2013 08:56

Day 3 - weighed this morning and down a pound to 9 st exactly!

Yesterday I had:
B Herbal tea
L 2 scrambled eggs with 1/2 a knob of butter
D 1/2 roasted aubergine with chilli, garlic and greek yoghurt + 1/2 grilled courgette with rosemary, handful of salad leaves.
Snack (after BWIW got after me with her big stick Wink) two tablespoons of greek yoghurt and handful of almonds and sunflower seeds. I know that nuts and seeds are sort of verboten on this bootcamp, but seeing as I am practically vegetarian I thought I had better try and get some protein. Pkus LOADS of water, and 1 cup of black coffee.

Did 40 minutes of JM's BFBM workout as well - that is tough!

Hoping that tomorrow/the next day I might start to get into ketosis.

Supposed to be going to the cinema tonight, and am feeling inordinately deprived at going without my beloved popcorn - does anyone have any suggestions for low-carb cinema snacks?

DangerousMouse · 03/01/2013 09:00

Can I join you all please? I have never done a diet like this before, so any tips would be great. Also, is there a food list of allowed foods anywhere? I am vegetarian so this is going to be tricky.

I don't have any scales so not sure how much I need to lose, but I want to drop 2 dress sizes by my holiday in June (at least)

GuyMartinsSideburns · 03/01/2013 09:09

Mulledwine - good idea! Thankyou Smile I'll measure and take note. I think the running is going to have to wait until the kids go back to school - dh leaves at 7.50 each morning and I dont fancy going out in the wind and darkness Blush to be back before he leaves.

Im not so keen on soya milk either... When I was younger I used to just drink hot water, may have to go back to that!

For lunch Im having salad and either tuna or prawns, not sure about dinner yet but Im loving spinach at the moment so probably that. Im a bit stumped for ideas at the moment until we get a shop done.

DangerousMouse · 03/01/2013 09:13

Also, is tofu and quorn low carb?

Prolificmincepiebreeder · 03/01/2013 09:16

Morning all, day 2 here.
Must up the water today.
Have lost nothing overnight, I don't know why this annoys me so much. I will measure myself instead I think.
I'm off to get some low carb treats today: prawns, spinach, salmon-tinned. Tuna, I just can't stand!
Might get some beef slices too.

Had a terrible night with our eldest but not feeling as tired as I would normally so that's something!

frenchfries22 · 03/01/2013 09:17

Started today not sure if i am on the right track
B - full fat yoghurt celery with philadelphia
Snack Babybel more celery with philadelphia
L- Aubergine and pea curry with tomato and cream spicy base and lettuce
Snack - babybel
D- Broccoli and blue cheese soup recipe from the bootcamp thread

Am i eating too much? dont want to jinx it but first time i have not had a headache an hour after lunch (am 8 hours ahead of UK)

TheSandstoneCat · 03/01/2013 09:34

Will be starting on Monday - please can someone add me to the list Thanks

Finally added myself.

Yesterday was a good day, stayed under 20g carbs and didn't feel hungry. Couldn't stop weeing though!

EwanHoozami · 03/01/2013 10:12

Jessica I love that you remember my sleep-deprived plight. It's a bit better, thank you. DS1 wakes less , so it's all going in the right direction. DS2 has 6 (6!) teeth sprouting, so I'm up every couple of hours with him instead

for folks asking how to make interesting veg I give you... this most wonderful slice of heaven known as braised creamy cabbage doesn't sound like much I know, but good LORD it's amazing. Great with sausages, chops etc.

I also like pak choi or spinach or greens wilted in a bit of stock or miso. And kale crisps! Roast a big baking tray full of chopped kale (taking out the tougher stalks) in a bit of groundnut oil and sea salt (maybe some chilli flakes?) until it's crispy. It tastes like chinese takeaway seaweed. FallingOver that'd be ace for the cinema! You can make crisps out of super-thinly sliced and baked celeriac too. Slosh a bit of oil on and cook hot.
