XB what kinds of exercises is it? I need to protect my pelvic floor a bit!

BoraBora · 14/01/2013 11:27

That's what I mean - lots of Indian food doesn't use "meat substitutes like quorn but they still have plenty of protein.

God, I really want a curry now Grin

XBenedict · 14/01/2013 11:33

It's normal exercises but really intense. It's good because it's over quite quickly, only 20 minutes, but oh boy do you work. I could barely climb the stairs following it! (I am unfit though)

TeapotofDoom · 14/01/2013 11:34

Can I join yous? I just joined MFP last week (2KG down since a week ago). I have used FitDay a lot in the past. This seems very similar but there are more UK foods on it, for sure. I think it's more user-friendly, too. I'm liking being able to track measurements there as easily as weight, as I tend to judge how am doing more by measurements. I have PCOS and did actually manage to drop all this weight in 2007-8, but then my dad died and I just stopped caring.

I'm aiming at a 15 KG loss which would probably put me around a size 14 - would be happy with that.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 14/01/2013 11:39

I am starting a fresh today. Birthday and wedding anniversary over there is no temptations left!
I have to lose 4 lb to get to 138lbs where I was happy before Christmas.
I am really annoyed at myself as I have put on the 4 lb from after new year Hmm
I will do this :o

Feel free to add me, same name as on here :)

BoraBora · 14/01/2013 11:41

Okay, so any jumping around BX?

WiseKneeHair · 14/01/2013 12:19

Well done everyone. Elainey, I wouldn't worry about losing 10lbs in week one, I'd just revel in it. When I've done SW in the past, it's not been unusual for people to lose that in their first week. It'll slow down, but you may well be able to loss 2-3lbs per week.
I'm not a veggie now, but was for years, so we still have lots of meat free meals. I always have a bag of lentils in and often just add a handful to whatever I'm cooking to bulk it out. Helps keep food costs down as well as add protein.
I'm also a fan of quorn. The sausages are yummy (had then yesterday) and I'm doing a quorn chilli for tonight (with a handful of lentilsGrin). I seem to be keeping my protein levels up.
OTOH, my vitamin A, iron and calcium intake was really low, so I'll have to look at that.

Nooneelseisallowedafergus · 14/01/2013 14:07

Right. Have just purchased from amazon - the shred DVD, hand weights and bathroom scales (which I have never owned before). This is getting serious now!

DuchessofHaphazard · 14/01/2013 14:16

Can I join you all? I joined MFP today, having been putting off and putting off any attempts at losing weight. I'm 5'4" and aiming for about 9 stone...which is 70 pounds to lose. Seems miles away. Am mainly aiming to eat less (I comfort eat badly, and this last year has been pretty horrific), and do some exercise - I've just done 30mins on the bike.

Also have a question I have a 10 week old DD, and am ebf - is there any way of factoring that in on MFP?

cinnamongreyhound · 14/01/2013 14:16

Well done Chopstheduck!!!

I think that's great Elainey1609 I was 14st 13 and probably consuming 3000-3500 calories a day so when I cut down to 1500 it was quite a lot and I lost 5lb in a week. Some will be water but I think it sounds like you've made a huge difference in your eating habits so as well as fat it will be a loss from what is in your digestive system too. As you get rid of it you are replacing it with less, if that makes sense. Well done :)

mrsnec I don't think protein is a big deal, it's something that's good for you so is a minimum rather than the fat which is a maximum. Could be wrong though!

Well done sparkleshine, glad to see you're back to your losing ways :)

Welcome Teapotofdoom, it's a really lovely thread here.

Welcome back MonsterBookOfTysons! How did you manage to put it on after Christmas? We still have stuff left which I'm eating slowly. I always put on over school holidays as I walk less but I am back to 60Kg now which is what I was from July until I got my sickness bug in September so I'm happy there but I also worry it's the beginning of the end. Waiting until totm is over and see if being back to school runs will help!

x-posts DuchessofHaphazard, welcome!! You can add bf like you do food when filling in your diary. Search breastfeeding when you input your breakfast and it will add 500 calories :)

Welcome DuchessofHaphaxard. What is your MFP nn? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but I will sulk but you'll get lots of friend requests if you do.
nooneelse make sure you have ordered TWO hand weights, not a pack of one. Some stupid people not me, oh no get confused. Wink

Nooneelseisallowedafergus · 14/01/2013 15:06

I did order two but it was bloody confusing. Sometimes the simple things turn out to be the most complicated!

Chopstheduck · 14/01/2013 15:08

I jsut tried the shred, thinking it might be good for days like today when I can't get out on my bike and in between running days. I lasted ten minutes! It was really hurting my left knee. It's def quite high impact - lots of jumping up and down. I'm not going to risk it again, don't want to injure myself and not be able to run.

DuchessofHaphazard · 14/01/2013 15:31

My MFP nickname is alieight (old nn of mine on here as well).

I've done the 30 day shred in the past, never managed to carry on for more than 3 or 4 days. Am hoping that being on maternity leave and with a bit more time on my hands I'll manage to start building exercise into my day so that when I do go back to work, I won't stop, like after DS. That was the killer for me last time - going from being reasonably busy with DS to sitting on my arse all day scoffing cake and not doing any exercise.

XBenedict · 14/01/2013 15:32

My nn on MFP is Kiml71 - please add me I need all the help and support I can get Smile

XBenedict · 14/01/2013 15:35

You are my first friend Duchess Smile - not ever in a MFP way [wink}

XBenedict · 14/01/2013 15:35
Wink
WiseKneeHair · 14/01/2013 15:41

I'll friend you both.
chopstheduck I'm injured from the shred at the moment, but am still sort of doing it as I can't run anyway.

BoraBora · 14/01/2013 16:07

Hmm, worried me that people ate getting Injured from the shred. Sounds like a bad idea!

Chopstheduck · 14/01/2013 16:15

Bora - It's lots and lots of star jumps and bouncing up and down, rather high impact imo.

Nooneelseisallowedafergus · 14/01/2013 16:28

As a physio - when jumping, squatting, lunging etc. you can avoid injury and sore knees by taking care with your technique.

Ensure your knees don't go 'knock knee'd ' and that your knee cap moves in alignment with your 2nd toe (the one next to the big toe). Squeeze your butt to maintain good knee control. And if you are flat footed ensure you are wearing supportive trainers. Get your trainers from a proper running shop where they will assess your gait and choose the correct trainer for you. This will protect you from visiting me! Well I'm on mat leave, but someone like me!

cheerup · 15/01/2013 08:21

Been doing My Fitness Pal for just over a week - started Sat before last. First week lost 4 lb - fantastic. Kept within my calorie allowance (1200) everyday plus eating back my exercise calories (not all but at least 50%), did 45 mins body combat on Friday, played badminton on Saturday and another 45 minutes body combat yesterday and now seem to have put 3 lb back on. I'm just over 5'5" and weigh 10 stone 13 lb as of last night. I want to get down to 10 stone - ideally by mid Feb and do 5 45 min cardio sessions a week - combat/zumba or DVDs. Any tips or ideas why my weight seems to be going up this week?

WiseKneeHair · 15/01/2013 08:52

Nooneelse Good advice, I'll make sure I take when my leg is better.
cheerup there could be lots of reasons.
Have you measured yourself as well? You may find a reduction in inches even though you haven't lost.
Are you being accurate with you calories or guesstimating? You can easily be way out if you aren't measuring.
Is it the time of the month? I never lose, and often put on, when I'm due on.

However, it sounds like you are doing all the right things, so I would say ignore todays weight and carry on. I suspect you'll have a good loss next time.
If you want to add me on MFP, I'm HappyKite. I'm getting great support from everyone on there.

Doogle2 · 15/01/2013 10:45

Morning. I started my fitness pal yesteryear day as I have 2 stone to loose Blush can someone explain what adding friends does? Is it like Facebook where it alerts you if someone has lost or you leave messages etc? Very determined to do well so support would be good Wink
