Hello everyone it's my first weigh in on Mfp and I've lost 4.5 lbs . Mfp keeps telling me I'm not eating enough calories so I was shocked .if anyone wants to add me on Mfp my username is dizzydora71

BoraBora · 13/01/2013 13:32

Well done Dizzi!

Right, have been for a run, which is like a metaphorical kick up the bum.

Ill be over for the week, but so be it.

Blimey it's been up and down this week! I can see how baby-induced tiredness really affects what I'm eating and my motivation for change...

cinnamongreyhound · 13/01/2013 20:10

Well done Dizzydora71, that's fab. Be careful with under eating constantly, I'm sure I believe the starvation mode thing but its hard to get enough vitamins, minerals and protein at that level. I struggled with iron when I was on 1200 a day.

Yesterday's slip is a day don't make it two borabora but remember that when you weight next week :)

Weighed-in yesterday and have lost 5lb in the first ten days so am thrilled!

35lb to go...

Dizzydora71 · 13/01/2013 22:04

Hi cinnamon greyhound. I'm not trying to under eat calories . I'm trying really hard to eat enough calories as I'm so busy .

Chopstheduck · 14/01/2013 06:46

Nooneelseisallowedafergus - that sounded absolutely gorgeous, my idea of heaven, such a shame you were sick after!

I couldn't go near a roast while dieting. I dread to think how many calories are in one of mine. I tend to go the whole hog, goose fat roasties, yorkies, butter on the beans, butter under the chicken skin. :( I've still got a gorgeous leg of lamb in the freezer from a farm stay, but I think I will rub it in harissa and serve with couscous rather than do a roast.

I first weighed myself last monday when I started the c25k, and was 16st11. I weighed today - 16st3. Grin I've very happy, and I got back into a pair of jeans! I know it isn't sustainable at that level, but I am eating over 1200 a day and I do want to lose as much weight as I can before half term, then can ease up a bit.

I won a holiday so dh and I are off to Montréal for half term. Diet will prob go to pot there, but there is a gym and I will keep up the exercise at least. Plus a bit of winter sports, lots of walking.

Nooneelseisallowedafergus · 14/01/2013 07:43

Feel fine now. Back on MFP. Porridge with blueberries to start the week and fill me up till lunchtime!

Let's all stay focused, then, in a couple of months we can start a thread called: Fitties on Mumsnet! Wise advise from fit women!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/01/2013 08:03

I wasn't suggesting you we're Dizzydora71, just saying its something to keep and eye on :-)

Hi ya everyone
Hope we all had a good weekend
Good luck to everyonea weigh ins

I just have a quick query

this week.ive lost 10lb ......yes im excited and very pleased but also worried.

Is this too quick a weight loss?

I think ive been eating ok not changing calories too dramaticlly staying between 1500 and 1900 each day. Also to be honest I havent actually don that much exerxise ...just playing just dance on wii witj children more.

Is this too much too quickly, what do you all think?

If so what should I do
HELP please

BoraBora · 14/01/2013 08:59

Do you have a lot of weight to lose? If so, I wouldn't worry. If you were 9.5 stone and 5"8', it'd be a problem, but of you but of you're further away from your target weight I'd think the majority of it is water. Especially if you consider that your calorie intake is likely to have halved - the larger you are the bigger the drop in the actual values is (eg 3000cals down to 1500cals is a lot relative to 2000 down to 1500 - so the bigger you are the greater number of cals you needed to maintain that weight, so the drop down to MFP suggested cals will be larger, so you would expect a larger person to lose more more quicky). Does that make sense?

But if you are 9.5 stone that's bollocks and you should ignore it Smile

BoraBora · 14/01/2013 09:01

I realise I've slightly contradicted myself when I said its mostly water, I don't think it's mostly water (the maths wouldn't add up) but some will be.

Either way, bloody brilliant. Use it as a boost to kick start you Smile

BoraBora · 14/01/2013 09:03

Oh and chop - my roast is probably helped by the fact that I'm veggie - no goose fat for me!

BoraBora · 14/01/2013 09:03

It's only really 900 cals cos I'm greedy and have two!

Chopstheduck · 14/01/2013 09:31

Elainey1609, don't want to be rude, but I think since you do have quite a lot to lose, it is normal, and absolutely great! Grin It will slow down eventually, and as long as you aren't undereating it will be fine.

I've lost 9lbs since last monday, so in a week. I've got 4-5 stone to lose, so the intial loss will be more dramatic. I can remember last time I did this, I lost 4 stone, and within the first month I dropped a dress size, then it started to ease off and was a more steady loss.

Chopstheduck · 14/01/2013 09:34

Hey Bora, can you give me some protein tips please! I don't eat meat every day, we don't eat red meat much at all, so mostly chicken or fish, and usually 2-3 dinners are veggie. I'm really struggling with my protein though, it is under every day, and it seems that short of demolishing half a chicken a day, I can't get it up!

mrsnec · 14/01/2013 09:51

Hi everyone! Looks like it's going well. Just got a little question. I'm kind of happy with my progress so far I know it's the healthy rate. At first I was worried about going a little over on fat but now I'm over by loads on the protein is this ok? Those who aren't eating enough feel free to have a look at my diary! I'm mrsnecincy on MFP.

XBenedict · 14/01/2013 10:08

I've just joined MFP and bought a Davina DVD. I have about 3 stone to loose. You are all very inspirational Smile

mrsnec · 14/01/2013 10:20

XB. I think I have about that to lose too. Or maybe 2.5 now. Good luck with Davina! She's far too lively for me!

BoraBora · 14/01/2013 11:01

Chops - lentils and pulses are your friend! You can make casseroles or veggie shepherds pie with them and they're super filling. Also quorn mince is useful. Eggs are good if you eat them.

It's funny, I think we worry too much about protein in the west. The majority of people on the Indian subcontinent are veggie and don't worry about meat substitutes. As long as you have a good range of veggies and pulses you'll be all good Smile

Ooh, quinoa is good too, if you like it. Super high protein and like porridge very low GI and keeps you nice and full. Use it like rice.

sparkleshine · 14/01/2013 11:02

Well done on your losses everyone. :)
I bought a dance DVD last year and watched it once. Can't seem to get motivated for it. Hope it works for you XB.
I've cancelled my gym membership now due to money reasons. Gonna have to start walking more.
Good news is that I've lost 5lbs of the 15lbs I put on in my 2 month break. So pleased with that.
I'm completely useless with knowing my proteins/fats/vitamins etc.
I try to have some fruit and veg, some dairy products and some type of meat everyday. I'm really not a fish eater, but do have tuna once/ twice a week. Oh and a daily multi vitamin and fish oil helps.

BoraBora · 14/01/2013 11:04

Has anyone tried The Shred? I need a DVD for my non-running days but I don't want it to be too high impact...

XBenedict · 14/01/2013 11:07

Yup I have shred - I nearly died! That's why I've moved to Davina!

Chopstheduck · 14/01/2013 11:08

People in India do eat a lot of lentils though. I always forget about lentils, we do eat dhal and beans and things a fair bit. I want bean lasagne now! I love quinoa. I think because I tend to eat them with unhealthy stuff (mexican burritos, huge indian feasts), they go out of the window with my diets, I must think of some healthy meals with beans and things.

I need to stop thinking about food now, it's only 11 and I'm hungry!!

sparkleshine · 14/01/2013 11:10

I used to put lentils/pulses in my DS food when weaning. More when making soups or stews. Good idea to start again though.
Nuts and seeds are good to add vits but nuts also up the calories. Better than snacking on crisps or chocs though.

Chopstheduck · 14/01/2013 11:11

Don't really eat nuts, chocolate or crisps, or snacks at all really. My downfall has always been fried food. I could eat chips every single day quite happily :(
