TML Could you post the recipe for the cinnamon crunch on the recipe thread please. I would love to have something different I can give the DC so I can get them off the porridge. Thanks. Oh and yes to the links re fat.

Off to the gym in a bit for a new program, should be interesting

Thegoddessblossom · 07/09/2012 11:01

Eggs and Boursin - hmm - whilst I love Boursin and I love eggs, the combo was a bit rich for me TBH.

Just swum a mile - first swim session for a couple of months and I am completely wiped out! Need to do it though as have been suckered into the swim part of a triathlon at Hever Castle at the end of this month.

Gawjus day here, might top up my tan work in the garden!

Lunch will be a tuna salad.
Dinner will be a homemade chicken curry, so not brilliant as sauce will be in a jar, but DH is cooking so I ain't complaining.

Thegoddessblossom · 07/09/2012 11:25

Hmm a pound up - albeit per poo - but I blame the rather carby veg I had on Wednesday......

2 eggs with Boursin for brekkie today.

Thegoddessblossom · 07/09/2012 11:26

Sorry, second post was supposed to have been before first post! That's what happens when you post on multiple devices!!

TellMeLater · 07/09/2012 11:32

Omg I have just had the most lovely lunch - cream cheese pancakes with a strawberry cream cheese filling, it was joyful, every bite and not at all eggy....perfect thing to have when it's that time of the month. Will post it in the recipe thread but be warned it contains sweetener!

TellMeLater · 07/09/2012 11:53

This makes logical sense

I am eating consistently well and paleo, tracking my food, staying in ketosis, working out in a Primal Blueprint way, and still having trouble dropping bodyfat. I recently found this on Dr. Eades blog:

"Although the lowered insulin and elevated glucagon open the doors to the fat cells allowing fat to come out to be burned, the fat comes out only if it?s needed. If you are meeting all your body?s energy needs with the food you eat, the body doesn?t need the fat in the fat cells. On a low-carb diet your body burns fat for energy. But it doesn?t care where this fat comes from; it can come from the diet or it can come from the fat cells or it can come from both. If you are consuming enough fat to meet all your body?s requirements, your body won?t go after the fat in the fat cells no matter how severely you restrict your carbs. You will burn dietary fat only and no body fat. And you won?t lose weight. It?s that simple."

So this suggests that excess dietary fat stops you from losing weight because your body is getting all the energy it needs from the diet but it all suggests excess fat does not cause weight gain. No idea who Dr Eades is...more links/quotes etc coming up.

Discussion on another forum: Queation about where the excess dietary fat goes

BIWI · 07/09/2012 12:03

Very interesting - will have a read of that when I'm home later. Thanks, TellMeLater

Successfully distracted myself from food with two hours of ironing ( absoloutely HATE ironing).
Now to wake up DS and give him his lunch ...then walk to park after DS2 finishes school i think as its such a nice day! Grin

Can I ask what people's thoughts are on flaxseed?

I'm wondering because there are wildly conflicting reports about it on the web, so wanted to know if people here chose to eat it or not, and why.

Thanks!

WillieWaggledagger · 07/09/2012 15:27

dolly i've tried it from time to time but it makes me stall so i avoid it when i want to lose weight

captainmummy · 07/09/2012 15:34

I know there was a lot of talk of milled flaxseed (linseed)on the vegetarian low-carb thread (which seems to have disappeared), i think they used it in a sort of flour-type way. TML's cereal uses it in the same way. I love seeds and wish i could eat more on this WOE, so will def be trying it.

dollyxdaydreamer · 07/09/2012 16:16

Thanks Willie and captainmummy
But have you read the reports on how it's not supposed to be good for you? I really wanted to give it a go, but did some research and got scared off tbh!

TellMeLater · 07/09/2012 16:26

Dolly can you link to the article suggesting flaxseed was unhealthy? Smile

PrincessSparkle86 · 07/09/2012 16:38

I have also been wondering about flaxseed, seen it in a few recipes!

Fasting day 1 has been poo... After avoiding eating anything i felt really feint headed in the park after school so i ate a bit of chocolate Sad meant to be making up for eating the wring things not addung to the list!!

dollyxdaydreamer · 07/09/2012 16:47

TellMeLater sure:

www.marksdailyapple.com/flax-prostate-cancer-risk/#axzz25nZtukOS
Talks about prostate cancer in men - the paper cited is here

and

www.mayoclinic.com/health/flaxseed/NS_patient-flaxseed/DSECTION=safety
Suggests caution in hormone-sensitive women and avoiding if pregnant or bfing (though doesn't cite sources)

Not sure about the credibility of these websites.

As a disclaimer I just want to add I haven't actually researched this very thoroughly and just wanted your views Smile

WillieWaggledagger · 07/09/2012 17:03

Princess maybe after going off track yesterday it might be better to start by doing some really clean low carbing for a few days and getting back into the swing of it before you try fasting? I could be way off the mark but otherwise you might risk getting into a binge/starve cycle

PrincessSparkle86 · 07/09/2012 17:12

My plan was to fast for two days and then just go back to strict low carbing :/ hopefully itll work.. I dont know though x

WillieWaggledagger · 07/09/2012 17:20

Are you planning 48 hours without eating?

PrincessSparkle86 · 07/09/2012 17:26

Yeah x

AuntieMaggie · 07/09/2012 17:32

:( I had fruit today and half a potato because there wasn't enough else for me to eat.... argh.

PrincessSparkle86 · 07/09/2012 18:14

We have nothing in either... In serious need of a food shop tomorrow! Least u was healthy even though not low carb lol x

teaandthorazine · 07/09/2012 18:14

PrincessSparkle - are you sure about this? I'd really strongly advise against attempting a 48-hour fast. Making yourself fast for two days because you've 'had a binge' isn't really the point of fasting - and it definitely isn't the point of low-carb. You won't cancel out lots of carbs by eating nothing, you'll just make yourself feel like shite, screw up your blood glucose (and probably end up having another binge tbh!)

I agree with willie - eat really clean and low-carb for a couple of weeks, get into ketosis and then think about fasting if it still appeals. Don't just starve yourself!

Viperidae · 07/09/2012 18:26

Fasting leading to disordered eating is something that bothers me too Willie

I love the idea of the cream cheese pancakes but worry that they could be a slippery slope for me back into bad eating. That was always one of my issues with WW and SW, having "sins" kind of kept the door open to eating the wrong thing.

My colleague is doing WW and was telling me how crumpets now "cost" more points than they used to. I cannot imagine crumpets helping me to eat healthily (in fact I can't imagine them without loads of melted butter either!)

PrincessSparkle86 · 07/09/2012 18:32

I know fastings not the point of low carb and that theyre two different things... I just felt completely shite about what id eaten and disnt want my weight to go back up.. So i thought if i fasted for the two days an got over the cravings and ignored the hungriness by the 3rd day id go into the strict low carb again better. Tbh alot of you are saying its not a good idea :/ but ive only got 1 day left!! X
