tea three bean stew sounds fairly carby. If you've kept the carbs low today and just have a small portion then hopefully not too bad. I guess picking the beans out wouldn't go down to well. Grin

Jacaqueen · 21/08/2012 17:01

That should read I don't limit his carbs

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 21/08/2012 17:35

bad bad day with a playdate with an old friend, i did lunch, and she unexpectedly brought cake. managed to avoid the bread until an hour of listening to her tell me all about her dd. my dd is 'normal' but speech delayed after brain damage at birth so it wasn't easy to hear and see how much more advanced her dd is. to top that her child made the cake so I 'had to have one' despite my best efforts to sidestep her.

the whole three hours were fraught and my dd got very very upset and to be fair so did I (afterwards) and so we went to tho park for a picnic dinner to try to make it up to her. now about to have a bath together and wash away the stress

teaandthorazine · 21/08/2012 17:45

Singing - you're right, it wouldn't! But to be fair it does look and smell really good, so I guess I'll have a small portion and say what the heck tonight. Have only had prawn and avocado salad today so probably not too bad.

Eyes that sounds crap, hope you can relax a bit tonight

Jins · 21/08/2012 17:50

Cake avoidance is easy when you're a coeliac :(

However it can be useful to tell people you're on a gluten free diet when they force cake on you.

BIWI · 21/08/2012 19:00

My low carb version of pizza:

One chicken breast per person - open it out as much as you can, put it between two pieces of clingfilm and bash it with a meat mallet/rolling pin until it's really thin.

Make a tomato sauce:

finely chopped shallots, garlic sauteed in olive oil, with basil or oregano, black pepper and salt
add tin of chopped tomatoes
simmer the lot till it's thick enough - you want a fairly dry texture

In a large frying pan fry the chicken till it's browned on both sides (because you have bashed it till it's thin it won't take long to cook through

Then spoon some of the tomato sauce on to the chicken, spread it out and then add any other pizza toppings you like.

At this point you transfer the chicken into the oven so that it will brown any cheese on the top.

I have eaten around 30g of carbs again today, with 149g from fat and 128g from protein. This tracking is quite interesting as I have never done it properly before and so far is showing me that I probably eat around 30g of carbs a day and that my fat is slightly more than protein which I think is what we are aiming for. I certainly don't feel the need for more carbs and todays figures include 6g from some green & blacks so even if I didn't have that and had extra veg at lunch I would probably still be around 30g.

It is interesting for maintenance really to get an idea of what level of carbs bring back cravings or tiredness and cause weight gain, so far I am fine but realistically would struggle to increase them by much anyway

Wow lubi that's fab - hopefully the great loss will help you resist!

vnmum · 21/08/2012 19:28

lubilee If you're hungry, EAT! Make sure you are eating enough fat, that will be your body's energy source now. Also have you been having salt ot lo-salt on your food. You could be short on electrolytes with all the water drinking, that can make you feel weak. Have some stock to drink or get some 0 carb electrolyte tabs.

mummyduff · 21/08/2012 19:45

lubilee thats great, but dont go hungry just have a low carb snack.

Eyes sounds like a crap playdate, try and relax tonightSmile

well think I know why I was 2lb up this morning, just got my TOTM, its a little early and because I no longer suffer with PMT(since doing this woe) was not aware it was en route!!

Dinner was LC chilli with salad.

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 21/08/2012 21:16

Ty people, DD and I had a fab bath and pjs and bed for her. DH in a foul mood because all he wants to do is surf the Internet, play games and I have made him do stuff like cook dinner and discuss the roof quotes.

Anyhow, he seriously undercooked the pork kebabs and I only worked it out halfway through so now concerned about a dicky tummy. Sigh.

hazchem · 21/08/2012 21:16

Well I've put on 2 1/2 pounds! I'm feeling both gutted and OK. I had loads of non scale victories before weighing in so I'm trying to focus on those.

So I'm going to not have the chocolate, nuts, cheese and wine this week and also actually write down everything to see how it is going.

Eyes sorry you had a rough day.

vnmum what do you use to track your carbs ect?

vnmum · 21/08/2012 21:42

hazchem I use an app on my android phone called calorie counter by fatsecret. I find it better than my fitness pal but haven't double checked the accuracy of the carb counts. I might do that tomorrow

emmak86 · 21/08/2012 21:52

HumphreyCobbler · 21/08/2012 22:27

happy birthday for tomorrow emma

I was sorely tempted by the multi-coloured cake I made with the dc today, but I resisted Smile

Had a glass or two or three of wine last night and felt shocking all day today. I think I am in ketosis though.

emmak86 · 21/08/2012 22:43

Happy birthday Emma

All good here today. Scales still showing a 3lb loss.

Eggs for breakfast. Broccoli and cauliflower soup for lunch and Italian pork meatballs for dinner.

tiptoemum · 22/08/2012 08:31

Happy Birthday Emma! All going well here. Had a few bought picnics recently which are a bit tricky, either carby or exceptionally dull. M&S do the best options but not cheap! I've lost 13 and a half pounds so far, it will be the end of week 5 tomorrow so very pleased. More pleased about the fact that it is sustainable. I'm reading the India & Neris book at the moment which is jolly good and supports what we are doing.

mummyduff · 22/08/2012 08:54

Happy Birthday Emma have a fab day Grin

Well Done tiptoemum know what you mean about M&S!! I have now taken to marinading and cooking chicken day before, so I can put with a salad for picnics.

Well I'm still 2lb up and guttedSad I was so good the last 2 days!!
DH weighed in this morning on day 3 and is 4lb downSmile

mummyduff · 22/08/2012 09:00

meant to say upside, def back in Ketosis, which I had come out of in the last couple of weeks, so hopefully it will onwards and downwardsSmile

Netheregions · 22/08/2012 09:12

Happy birthday Emma!!!
Pig to twig was one of my inspirations tiptoemum they are very, very strict in the first phase though and I found restricting carbs to that extent wasn't necessary to lose weight...
I've always included carrots, sweet potato, butternut squash and beetroot without slowing the weight loss.
I have found though for both myself and my partner that we have a point at which weight loss stops, mine is at 55kg and Dp's at 71kg... Over a month I'll go up to as much as 58kg depending on where i am in my menstrual cycle but lose it and return to the maintenance weight quickly after my period. Any one else have this big fluctuation over the month?
