We could keep chatting here until someone starts a new proper thread...

Re the IPD cookbook - yes it is very different from Bootcamp. The one thing I don't really like about it is that it doesn't give you any indication at all as to how many carbs there are in the dishes. And lots of the recipes use lots of dairy, which means I avoid those. But they are very good recipes. Everything I have made from there is lovely and has been scoffed by everyone in the family.

The pork dish was a success! There's barely any left, which is a good sign. I modified the recipe somewhat, to suit a) what I had in the cupboard b) my own personal preferences. I'll post it on the recipe thread.

I think that any fat that you don't use for fuel, TellMeLater, is excreted in the usual way.

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/09/2012 22:15

Thanks everyone!

Happy Birthday fufulina!

I had a lovely day, exhausting but lovely. Back to normal life though and eating tomorrow. Someone said earlier about having days when you just want to eat even though you're not particularly hungry. I have those and tend just to snack as I need. For me I think it stems from being on diets feeling like I am missing out that I obsess about food and what I can and can't eat. On the WoE I just snack and them find I stop thinking about it after a while and I think I feel like I've taught my body I'm not starving it a then I get over it again!!!

BIWI I might know your friend, but it would only be by first name if she isn't on my team (which she isn't!!!). I LOVE playing again, I'm
Not very good, but it is fun and I can highly recommend it. I am
Also making better use of my DL membership again!!!

Do you remember where you read that excess fat would be excreted BIWI?

lilyfire · 06/09/2012 22:23

TellMeLater - John Briffa in his Escape the Diet Trap book, talks about the fat issue. He cites a study (I can give you the name if you'd like) where subjects were fasted for 84 hours. Their insulin levels fell and the rate of their fat breakdown increased - evidenced by a rise in levels of free fatty acids in the bloodstreams. Fasting lowered insulin levels which allowed fat cells to give up their fat - as might be expected. The subjects were then given an intravenous drip containing nearly all fat of about 2000 calories a day. Their insulin levels fell and their fat breakdown increased - at the same rate as during their time of complete fasting. Dr Briffa says that the conclusion of the study was that 'feeding the body pure fat induced a metabolic state in the body that was... the same as the state induced by complete fasting'.

BIWI · 06/09/2012 22:43

I didn't read it anywhere, TellMeLater - I was just supposing!

MrsHP - I'll see you at the gym then! When do you go/what do you do? I'm mainly there at stupid o'clock in the morning, but do try and fit in the occasional class, work-permitting.

TellMeLater · 06/09/2012 22:47

Hi lilyfire - the name of the study would be great, thanks. Smile

AuntieMaggie · 06/09/2012 22:56

Evening ladies... You're having some interesting discussions but my brain is too tired to join in...

Dinner was tomato and mozzarella salad, chicken with some vegetable thing, and pannacotta with berries. Please note I didn't have the canape things, bread rolls or chocolate tart dessert or any alcohol. I'm sure there was some potato in the vegetable thing but to be honest the portion was tiny (whats the type of meal when its small portions and all about looking fancy?)

I also went for a walk before dinner and tried to buy a new sports bra in debenhams but they didn't have my size in anything. Who knew my size was so popular???

Bed now. Night ladies x

2muchmess · 06/09/2012 23:03

ouch help! DH has told me my breath smells of ketones and it's not nice (he's a GP so knows about these things). he doesn't even know i'm on this diet so it must be bad! now i don't want to talk to anyone. he said the children must have noticed it because it's been all the time for the last week or so.
what should i do?? anyone else have this?

BIWI · 06/09/2012 23:22

Drink plenty of water! You could always try some sugar-free mints/gum. It will go.

lilyfire · 06/09/2012 23:25

Tellmelater - it's Klein S et al, Carbohydrate restriction regulates the adaptive response to fasting - American Journal of Physiology 1992, 262 (5): E631-E636.
Not sure how easy it is to access this, as I haven't tried.

sybilfaulty · 07/09/2012 06:24

BIWI, that's very interesting about the SF mints. I used to eat a lot, but their carb content is high so I stopped. COuld I have the odd one at work, do you think? Am paranoid about death breath and clients. Drinking lots of water does help with most things, 2muchmess. Hope it passes soon. I find my children are very quick to point things out (3, 5 and 7 so not much tact or sense of time / place) and also that breath / metal taste comes and goes, so it might just be a temporary thing.

Had a good day yesterday, bought some skinny jeans which I am not sure about but my shopping pal (aslo on IPD) said looked amazing. Am off for a swim today whilst my youngest settles at nursery. DO you think I am hearty enough for the outdoor pool?

Had lovely lamb chops with chilli, lemon and garlic last night with green beans. Antipasti plate for lunch was heaven. Love this WOE.

Have a good day.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/09/2012 07:05

Thank you lovely BIWI for the info about low carbing and serious exercise Thanks It all made for interesting reading, and against traditionally held ideas safe to say. I have carried on low carbing, and have been doing a lot of training this week, and all has been well, no more keeling over feelings

Not sure how food will go over the actual weekend (next weekend) as it is all provided, and it will be carby, that does worry me slightly, only last time I had lots of carbs I was very sick afterwards, it was like my body didn't want them or know what to do with them. Anyway tmi Grin

And I agree with the drinking lots of water

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/09/2012 07:09

I think with sugar free mints they are so small that you don't actually get any carb if that makes sense? A bit like truvia which is 99g/100g but it diesn't weigh anything - like feathers!

BIWI currently I do body balance Monday night andzumba Tuesday night although only on nights DH is home so not next week!

Morning all,
Was thinking about the fat discussion from last night and I guess it would make sense that extra dietary fat eaten that wasn't burned as energy would be excreted because as we all know, Insulin is the hormone that controls fat storage and because that is low on low carb surely that means that it cannot cause the fat to be stored because we are not getting the insulin spikes.

BBQ tonight, I know there will be puddings but I am aiming to eat plenty of meat and salad so I will be too stuffed to want them

TellMeLater · 07/09/2012 08:20

I found some links last night about what happens to the fat, will post them later if anyone else is interested.

Btw the cinnamon crunch cereal I made last night is fantastic! A great substitute for anyone missing their branflakes and went down very well with the dcs too!

PrincessSparkle86 · 07/09/2012 08:30

Morniiiiing Smile

Ive decided im fasting the next 2 days... Went completely off track yesterday and had a binge... Shameful!!
Hopefully fasting might get on the way to fixing it, ill make sure i drink plenty.. Going to be hard though as i know im going to be hungry!
Ill catch up with the thread later on PC x

BIWI · 07/09/2012 09:10

Oh yes - TML - what does happen to the fat?! vnmum's explanation sounds most likely, but would be interested to know what you've found out.

sybil - I'm really surprised that there are any carbs in sugar-free mints. What does it say on the label? If the mints have got polyols in them (sugar substitutes), it will say:

carbs - 100 (for example)
of which - polyols 100
sugar 0

EwanHoozami · 07/09/2012 09:39

Well, this is a strange feeling. For the first time in my adult life I haven't woken up hungry. I'd normally have been face-down in a giant bowl of frosties by now Blush

yesterday..
B: scrambled eggs with shrooms
L: slices of roast turkey, mozzarella and a green salad
D: Dry-ish lamb curry with okra in butter on the side

I'm just ramping down the dairy rather than giving it up entirely, but I'll be cheese-free by bootcamp - promise!

Love the Breathe, I'm Hungry site, cheers for the tip.

I'm assuming tofu is OK - I was considering this from All Recipes for dinner with a pile of kale, or is it a bit sugary with the peanut butter and dessicated coconut?

EwanHoozami · 07/09/2012 09:44

Yes please to the links about the fat, TellMeLater. It seems from my observations to be exiting in the traditional manner but would love to know the sciencey bit behind it.

BIWI · 07/09/2012 09:44

It depends how much the 3tbsps of coconut weight. Desiccated coconut is 6.4g carbs per 100g; also, peanut butter can be quite carby, depending on the brand you have. Tofu is 2g carbs per 100g - again, no idea how much is in a pack.

BIWI · 07/09/2012 09:44

Have just twigged your name, btw Grin!

halfthesize · 07/09/2012 09:47

Morning all, just had bacon and egg for breakfast.

I have a fun packed day of housework, cooking, washing and ironing whilst entertaining DS2.

Have great day everybody and enjoy the sun x

BIWI · 07/09/2012 09:50

I had a bit of weird food day yesterday - a combination of not being hungry at mealtimes, and not having the right foods to hand when I was!

mid-morning - 2 hardboiled eggs mashed with mayo
lunch - yoghurt with vanilla
dinner - roast chicken quarter and wings

I wasn't intending to eat the chicken, I was intending to eat the pork, after I got home from my class. But I was too hungry (had a brutal gym session in the afternoon), so ate the chicken - and didn't have any veg or salad to go with it!

Then wasn't hungry after my class, so didn't eat anything. So an ultra low carb day, even though it wasn't supposed to be like that! I also had more coffee than I was planning - we have the lesson at my classmate's house, and he'd already made me one so it was churlish to refuse. So had 3 cups of coffee yesterday, and only 2.5 litres of water.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 07/09/2012 10:21

9 stone 12.5! Smile

Am currently boiling some eggs to make egg mayo with cheese for a late breakfast. I'm not sure what to have for lunch, the cupboards are looking a bit bare. Will have to give it some thought.

Tellmelater, what is this cinnamon cereal of which you speak? Is it low-carb?
