Well some of you are, clearly!

And I notice more talk about maintenance, which is evidently a very good sign.

I think the best way for maintenance is to gradually increase your carbs until weight loss either stops or you find that you're putting weight back on.

Don't rush out and fall face first into a plate of pasta, though! Start with fruit and veg (be careful with which fruits and how much), and possibly some legumes - e.g. lentils, or beans - i.e. we're looking to add 'good' carbs into the diet, rather than rush straight into 'accessible' carbs which have an immediate impact on your blood sugars.

Today is Day 1 of Week 1 in my 'let's get that last half stone off' before I go on holiday. (Except that last night's meal, plus a bit of 'eye off the ball' time, means it's more than half a stone now ...)

I've just had an eek moment. Went to put some babycorn in the steamer and happened to glance at the carb count which was 7.1g. This made me check all of the supermarkets and they have massively different counts:

Asda, Ocado & Tesco - 2.7g
M&S - 7.1g
Sainsburys - 17g!!!!!!!!!!

Waitrose has 3 different types, one has no info listed, another says 2.7g and a third says 17g.

I've been eating loads of the stuff thinking it was less than 3g of carbs per hundred. Might go some of the way towards explaining why I've been gaining weight I thought it was just from drinking too much vodka.

BIWItheBold · 25/06/2012 16:14

I always thought baby sweetcorn was low in carbs as well!

AngieAir - why did people do that to you?! I hate it when people try and sabotage your diet - it's often because they are jealous of your achievement and/or feel bad about their own weight/diet. But you do have to find a way, if you can, to stop them doing it to you. I know it's difficult - and sometimes there isn't a way - but we owe it to ourselves.

Thanks FiddledeFat for technical wizardry with the Spreadsheet of Marvellousness!

Weightlossresources also give it as low carb

OP posts:
QueenStromba · 25/06/2012 16:59

I think it might be down to there being lots of different varieties used so some of them will be 2.7g and others will be as high as 17g. I'm not sure we can safely assume that the nutritional info on the packet is accurate since supermarkets buy veg from many different sources.

Reading Jin's posts about maintaining has made me realise that I could be doing better as I regularly eat cherry tomatoes in my salads and am drinking a fair few G&t's/glasses of wine over a week. I've also become very fond of green and blacks dark chocolate. I'm still loosing about one pound a week, but I'm going to try to ditch the booze, tomatoes and choc and see what happens this week.

BIWItheBold · 25/06/2012 17:33

There's a reason they're not allowed in Bootcamp, NMP ... Wink

Hello to all Newbies and welcome.

Shimbo - I too heart porridge. I have it every morning for breakfast, and I am a pound lighter than my usual maintenance weight. All other meals are low carb. I make it with hot water. Not everyone likes this though, I love it. Harcombe says that if you are having a carb meal, you should have it with skimmed milk so as not to make it a fat/carb combo meal.

Re maintenance, Harcombe views this as Phase 3:

the rules for phase 3 are:

don't cheat too much
don't cheat too often
be alert and stay in control

Your natural weight will be the weight you can maintain easily - going above it takes some overeating and going below it happens when you are ill or under stress. Be open minded about your natural weight and for this to be slightly above or below your current thinking on your ideal weight.

Livelongandprosper · 25/06/2012 17:46

AngieAir - I went to a friend's birthday barbecue yesterday. I am known for my love of cake and sweet things so they had an array of chocolate cakey things ready for me. Of course I had some.

The only thing I can think of to do differently is to warn friends and family in advance next time that I won't be eating the cakes. Then all I have to do is resist them.

On the positive side, my friend did comment enthusiastically on how slim I was looking but then went on to say 'but you were fairly huge before.' I'm 5'1" and have lost 2 stone over the past two years and he is someone with extreme views who says exactly what he thinks without any understanding of the meaning of the word 'tact'. He almost got the rest of his birthday cake in his lap!

Jins · 25/06/2012 18:15

You won't be wanting my low carb cake recipe then Wink

Nobody should have the low carb cake recipe by the way - I shouldn't have mentioned it

BIWItheBold · 25/06/2012 21:29

Today is day one of the first week of 7 before I go on holiday. We have two weeks in Barbados to look forward to, and this is one of the main reasons I was finally galvanised to start losing weight and going to the gym, at the beginning of the year.

The last few weeks have seen me take my eye off the ball somewhat, and I'm a cross with myself that I've been maintaining my weight rather than losing any more. And after last night's Chinese debacle, I'm even crosser that I've put weight back on!

So I am now really focussing my efforts to make sure that I get back on track and shed a few more pounds before we go away.

Today I have had:

B - 2 hard-boiled eggs, mashed with mayo
L - mushroom omelette with chilli
D - savoury mince (mince with leeks and celery), with red cabbage braised with onion and raspberry vinegar
snacks - some cold roast lamb, a celery stick with some peanut butter
drinks - 2 cups of coffee (was supposed to be only one Blush) and 4 litres of water

OP posts:
Heartstart · 25/06/2012 22:01

B yog plus flax
L tuna salad with coleslaw
D cinnamon chicken mushrooms green beans roast aubergine

BIWItheBold · 26/06/2012 07:12

Day 2, and start with the scales back down to 10 stones and 3/4 pounds, which is very pleasing! And so off to the gym ...

Had a couple of glasses of wine the night before last and I think it made me crave carbs all day yesterday. So I am going to try not to have any alcohol for as long as possible.
Thanks for putting me on the spreadsheet FiddleDeFat, great motivation for me Grin
Off to figure out what to have for breakfast with no eggs in the house.

BIWItheBold · 26/06/2012 09:01

Just as a reminder for myself - today is day 2/47 until my holiday. This, hopefully, will keep me focused, as a reminder that there aren't that many days left to get into shape!
