The only thing I could think of to rhyme with 'six' for a catchy thread title was 'ketostix'. But as I don't advocate those, I was stuck!

By now, hopefully you're in the sway of things. Weight loss each week may be less spectacular, but should be reasonably consistent if you stick to the knitting Smile

You may also be finding that it's not happening for you consistently. It is an odd thing - and I have no idea if it's unique to low carbing - but it's not uncommon to go for a couple of weeks without losing, and then for the scales to suddenly drop. However, don't be downhearted and whatever you do, don't use this as an excuse to drop off the wagon!

It's also a very good reason why you should take your measurements as well as weighing, and a very good idea to keep a food/drink/snack diary, so make sure that you're not allowing carb creep.

So. Keep on keeping on. Remember the water, and don't forget to make sure you're keeping the fat levels up.

Here's to next week!

Just one?

mummyduff · 27/05/2012 19:53

Hi All

I also have done nothing but eat bbq food and salad for 3 days Smile

BIWI bet the bikini looks fab, I have been wearing mine in the garden for the last 2 days and actually feel ok in it. I have decided I need to loose another stone and am off on holiday on Saturday for a week, so from tomorrow I am back to hardcore bootcamp!!
Still drinking loads of water but also been having a few wines, I blame the warm weatherWink

Thegoddessblossom · 27/05/2012 20:37

Things I miss:

Branston pickle with my cheese
Porridge
Bananas
White wine
Baked potatoes

Just sayin'....

Livelongandprosper · 27/05/2012 20:49

Barbeque at friends' house yesterday:

Salmon - good.

Salad - good.

Ton of crisps - not good.
Big slice of chocolate cake - terrible.

Collecting son from Bangor uni today and driving back again to Surrey:
No, I cannot confess what I ate to get me through this epic drive today.

Weigh in tomorrow will be interesting.

MNP · 27/05/2012 20:55

Goddess I miss
Porridge
Bananas and raisins in thick cream
Rice
Pain de campion

BettyBathroom · 27/05/2012 21:24

Bloody scales have gone on the blink - no idea how long they have been playing up - but a jump of 3lbs in the space of 10 secs would be a hell of a biological achievement. So bought a shiny new set - no excuses any more Grin

Foods I miss - none really, I continue to drink wine, I have developed a taste for dark choc - I momentarily missed Minstrals today - but I love being thin more. I have been able to eat puddings at restaurants/friends houses and still maintain my low carb approach at home - so it works, I don't miss much - I cheat in a sustainable way.

jan2011 · 27/05/2012 21:32

went to a barbecue today and there was nothing i could eat low carb (vegetarian) so i just had some dilute orange juice and tea. feel much better now for it and had a few nice low carb snacks when i got back :)

Manvsfood · 27/05/2012 21:48

RatherBeOnThePistey Aha! Thank you so much again for the blanket, it's absolutely amazing, I can't even begin to fathom the amount of effort that must have gone into such a masterpiece :)

I weighed myself this morning and I'm sitting on a 7lb loss for this week, I'm well chuffed. Small change though still, but I'm determined to make this work :)

I've taken some Belly Pork strips out of the freezer this afternoon, does anyone have any recommendations on how best to marinate/cook it, I've skimmed the recipe thread but can't seem to see anything in particular. I've never cooked it before, but I assume, low and slow is in order?

Foods I miss - In this weather... a nice cold Beer :(

BIWItheBold · 27/05/2012 21:55

Was there nothing? Really? Not even any salad?
Dilute orange juice will still have had a lot of carbs

BIWItheBold · 27/05/2012 22:04

Manvsfood STEP AWAY FROM THE BEER!

Bloody good work, so far - would be a shame to jeopardise it.

I've never cooked belly pork in strips, just in a whole piece. But definitely long and slow. I would marinate in garlic, chilli, lime or lemon and olive oil and then possibly bake wrapped in foil.

BIWI and map thanks for advice and offers of help. Been to cricket and then impromptu family bbq. Having reviewed my food should probably reduced processed meat, a bit and maybe cut down on total and berries. Wasn't doing bc rather bc light and reading briffa list from the diet escape.

Have been filling in MFP for past few days and fat average 60% carbs less than 15% every day and minder 40g every day bar one. Drank at least 3l water everyday and generally more. One coffee with double cream a day. No alcohol at all. interestingly MFP shows I have generally stuck around it's recommended calorie limit, which was not deliberate but adds to my frustration. So here it is

sat 19th brunch - 2 black farmers sausages, 2 fried eggs, 2 back bacon
Dinner steak, green beans, aubergine, mushroom cream sauce
Snack 50g cheese slice of ham

Sun 2 egg omelette
Roast pork with crackling, celeriac, runners beans sprouts
Total yoghurt and blueberries

Mon 2 scrambled egg
Lunch chicken
Thai green curry as per recipe thread green beans and mushrooms
Snacks slice ham, Mattesons sausage 50g

Tues
Yog froze pen berries and flax
Lunch chicken and cucumber
Pork steak and pesto, green beans, spinach and broccoli

Wed
B chicken and cucumber
Lunch homemade pate and lettuce
Dinner 2 black farmer sausages egg and bacon celeriac and mushrooms

Thurs hard boiled egg
Roast hake grilled courgette and green beans
Tuna and mayo lettuce, cut, green peppers 3 cherry tomatoes 1 flax focaccia

Fri hard boiled egg
1/2 bagel with cream cheese and lox. 1/4 granary bap with beef and cucumber.topping from cheesecake
Pork mushrooms and runner beans

Sat yog and blueberries
Half avocado
(went to bed v early as felt unwell)

Today yog, flax and blueberries
2homemade burgers1 lamb chop 1 black farmer sausage 2 Aberdeen Angus mini meatballs lettuce, green pepper, home made coleslaw with homemade mayo

MmeLindor. · 27/05/2012 22:07

I went out for a meal tonight and had a most delicious steak with veg and salad and no potatoes. I did have wine and a couple of chocs afterwards, but will cut those out when I get home.

Am finding that I don't crave sweets stuff and carbs anymore, even though I have I have been "off" bootcamp this weekend. I had a cooked breakfast this morning and wasn't even hungry till 5pm.

Looking forward to getting back onto the straight and narrow, and would start tomorrow morn if it weren't for the fact that I have a cake and coffee meeting in the morning.

heartstart · 27/05/2012 22:09

Thanks so much

BIWItheBold · 27/05/2012 22:24

Heartstart - don't bother with MFP! If you just follow Bootcamp that is all you need!

You are eating a lot of carbs and processed foods - bacon, sausages, ham, pâté - as well as bread and fruit. To be honest, I'm not surprised you have gained.

Go back to Bootcamp. Print out the rules and follow them religiously.

Can I check the bacon comment BiWi... The make I have is 0 carbs, is that not ok to use....? Also r u anti or pro protein shakes ( started B C lite today after 2 weeks of strict BC ) as think these will be a nice change to eggs, as trying to stay close to BC but with a little more variety ? Thanks

heartstart · 27/05/2012 23:06

BiWi thanks was only using MFP to Check using enough fat. Will go back to bc and don't want to sound like I'm arguing but other than fri only bread I have had is flax which on lo carb recipe says 1g per slice and have kept carb below 40g (fri was a one off as discussed earlier on thread)

WillieWaggledagger · 28/05/2012 07:55

heartstart despite the nutritional info I find flax does stall me, so I only eat very occasionally (once a month maybe). i'm also careful with beans, peppers and tomatoes. these things do affect people differently though (i find I have no problem with cream, though others do).

are you taking measurements too?

BIWItheBold · 28/05/2012 07:55

2bay - it's not so much the carbs as the ingredients that bacon contains. We are trying to avoid processed foods because of this. Also, bacon can be very salty, and too much salt can encourage water retention and thus a gain on the scales.

Heartstart - other than Friday this is the point though - low carbing is not a very forgiving way of eating. You ate a lot of carbs on Friday and you can't just dismiss that. Those carbs will be why your weight has gone up! To be honest, you're lucky to be only 2lbs up.

Drink lots of water and be super strict this week and those pounds will disappear.

Hi all,
I am having small but probably fairly un comfy operation this morning so can't think straight! its our wedding anniversary tomorrow and would like to cook a two course meal but what lovely low carb, but dairy free dishes can I serve? I can add carb for DH who refuses to join me in this WOE!

JUst to add, everyone else has someone with them except me! I've got MN!

heartstart · 28/05/2012 10:33

Morning all thanks for advice - am woman with mission- I am so sold on this woe and want to make it work. Interestingly been reading about cardiac impact of carb diet, in short an inflammation response, and have had slight chest twinge since carb on fri which is gradually fading .. May not be connected but had not had any since giving bread etc up.

B - boiled egg homemade mayo and lettuce wrap 1 litre water down and away to go

BIWItheBold · 28/05/2012 11:43

Hope all goes well, slowlyburningcalories.

How about:

starter - griddled asparagus, drizzled with olive oil/white wine winegar
main - fillet steak, salad, garlic mushrooms (cook in olive oil if you can't use butter), green beans, with whatever carb element your DH would like.

heartstart - the more I read about carbs, the more it confirms that this is definitely a WOE for longer term health, not just weight loss

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 28/05/2012 11:48

just weighed myself and still same - which is fine because I have had ice cream and all sorts over weekend.

WillieWaggledagger · 28/05/2012 11:56

slowly I did rack of lamb at the weekend which was very well received (not the extra trimmed cut - the one with all the fat on!) served with loads of salad, and dp had new potatoes

skinmysunshine · 31/05/2012 21:05

Quick question ladies - can I use stock cubes?
