The only thing I could think of to rhyme with 'six' for a catchy thread title was 'ketostix'. But as I don't advocate those, I was stuck!

By now, hopefully you're in the sway of things. Weight loss each week may be less spectacular, but should be reasonably consistent if you stick to the knitting Smile

You may also be finding that it's not happening for you consistently. It is an odd thing - and I have no idea if it's unique to low carbing - but it's not uncommon to go for a couple of weeks without losing, and then for the scales to suddenly drop. However, don't be downhearted and whatever you do, don't use this as an excuse to drop off the wagon!

It's also a very good reason why you should take your measurements as well as weighing, and a very good idea to keep a food/drink/snack diary, so make sure that you're not allowing carb creep.

So. Keep on keeping on. Remember the water, and don't forget to make sure you're keeping the fat levels up.

Here's to next week!

I'd stay away from the citric acid flavours anyway - they're not so good! But yes, there is sweetener in them - I've not found it a problem so far but some may. What's that IPD phrase? - Your Mileage May Vary Grin

teaandthorazine · 21/05/2012 10:46

I'm not on Bootcamp Wink

MY BOOTCAMP, MY RULES

BIWI It would appear due to bootcamps popularity a thread has been started questioning the safety and healthfulness of law carbing here. I wasn't sure if you would want to explain it from all your low carb wisdom ( you seem better at explaining than me). I know we are all evangelical about this woe on this thread Grin

BIWItheBold · 21/05/2012 10:58

Done!

To be honest, I'm surprised that there hasn't been more of a backlash on here about low carbing. There's usually someone who comes along to rubbish it, whilst also recommending 'just eat less and move more' (usually somebody who doesn't need to diet, of course!).

I have had one run in here with someone who just disappeared from the thread when I wouldn't back down Grin, but that's it.

I have just joine teaandthorazine and MNP on another thread. The OP was moaning about not losing weight and asking what she could do so we all suggested low carb Smile

people will be thinking there is a secret low carb cult on MN Grin

NotMostPeople · 21/05/2012 11:08

I've just written on the weigh in thread that I'm so happy to find that my BMI is now under 25.

I overdid the v&t's this weekend, but we did eat out and I ordered pork loin without the potatoes I was offered chips as an alternative but turned it down. When my plate arrived I had twice the amount of pork then the people who had potatoes, which was a result.

TOTM due soon I wonder what difference that'll make to the weight. I'm also wondering if this low carbing will make any difference to my very bad pmt. Last time we'd only just started on bootcamp so no difference really. However I feel so much better in every way physically I'm hoping my hormones might respond positively too.

BIWItheBold · 21/05/2012 12:08

A low carb quiche, I think you mean, vnmum!

NotMostPeople - great news for you. The PMT thing will be interesting.

I've been having one of those fizzy vitamin C tablet drinks, which I'm pretty sure contain artifical sweetener and citric acid.

Are they ok ? I'm only having them as I read somewhere that your vitamin C levels can drop.

BIWItheBold · 21/05/2012 12:38

I'd stop them - artificial sweeteners definitely.

If you're getting your carbs from veg/salad, you will be getting enough vitamin C. If you're still concerned, buy the tablet form rather than the drink form.

Consider them binned BIWI, you're the boss!

MNP · 21/05/2012 13:44

Oh cow pats, just weighed in and logged it on the spread sheet and forgot I was dressed Confused as was trying my new scales so will weigh again tomorrow morning and adjust the figure.

Thegoddessblossom · 21/05/2012 13:47

Lunch: delish salad from work restaurant - roast veg frittata, coleslaw, steak strips, lettuce leaves, tuna, roasted courgette

Thegoddessblossom · 21/05/2012 14:13

Incident at coffee machine (where, by the way, was an array of biscuits and chocolate from someone's birthday, including gingerbread men, my fave - resisted): was telling my colleague what I had for dinner last night (pork belly) becuase I am so interesting, and a lady says "That sounds very atkins to me" and I replied yes it was low carb, and she says I agree with all the Low Carb premises, I just can't do it myself as I have gall stones and can't deal with the fat..... Hmm

BettyBathroom · 21/05/2012 14:32

Fell off the wagon yesterday - one of those "life gets in the way" moments and the high carb option was all that was available which was fine, that's what happens occasionally.

Result - I slept badly last night, I was really hungry during the night and I weigh a lot more this morning. But back to it again today with Yogurt for breakfast & prawn stirfry for lunch.

I'm still not a proper meat eater so I'm following the veggie rules, but no nuts.

Checking in Wine

QueenStromba · 21/05/2012 15:11

Thegoddessblossom - you need to tell her what I just told someone on the other thread. Here it is cut and pasted:

"the reason that gallstones form in the first place is from eating a low fat diet. The gallbladder produces bile which is used to digest fat, if you eat very little fat then the bile sits there and can form gallstones. If you keep eating a low fat diet then the gallstones will just sit there getting worse which normally results in the gallbladder eventually having to be removed. If you eat a high fat meal once a gallstone has formed then it gets flushed out which is what causes the pain - this is a good thing though. If you can get past the initial pain of switching to a higher fat diet your gallbladder problems will disappear completely."

Thegoddessblossom · 21/05/2012 15:36

thanks Queen Stromba - will print it out and give it to her (if I can find her again, it's a big place...) Grin

MNP · 21/05/2012 15:36

I can see her point of view re gallstones as it is preached to aviod high fats as the gallstones can impact on bile production but and as an aside I have never eaten a low fat diet, am morbidly obese yet I have 6 large gallstones which don't bother me anywhere near as much as the reflux, cardiac hernia and sluggish bowel do.

MNP · 21/05/2012 15:44

B: meds and .5L
L: pâté on cucumber with mayo and .5L
D: slow roast lamb breast with a mayo salad of spinach, beansprouts, pea shoots(leaves).

scrablet · 21/05/2012 15:46

can I ask, how low carb might affect ongoing liver problems? Not life threatening, just high numbers caused by liver not functioning ideally? Good or bad idea?

QueenStromba · 21/05/2012 16:00

My liver numbers improved while on a low carb diet but I had also cut down my drinking. I'd have thought you'd be putting less stress on your liver since it's the only organ capable of metabolising fructose which will be greatly reduced on a low carb diet.

scrablet · 21/05/2012 16:11

Thanks Queen that's interesting.

FavadiCacao · 21/05/2012 17:38

vnmum- fantastic news about the weight loss. Grin

I bought my first two pair of size 10 jeans this weekend, some jeans were even too big I had to try some 8's (not quite there yet!). I also fit in three of my old size 10 dresses, never thought I'll be wearing a little black dress again :)

Thank you BIWI for getting me back to the straight and narrow (ish), at this rate 2 to 3 should get me to target.

FavadiCacao · 21/05/2012 17:40

oops! *2 to 3 weeks of bootcamp (lite)
