The only thing I could think of to rhyme with 'six' for a catchy thread title was 'ketostix'. But as I don't advocate those, I was stuck!

By now, hopefully you're in the sway of things. Weight loss each week may be less spectacular, but should be reasonably consistent if you stick to the knitting Smile

You may also be finding that it's not happening for you consistently. It is an odd thing - and I have no idea if it's unique to low carbing - but it's not uncommon to go for a couple of weeks without losing, and then for the scales to suddenly drop. However, don't be downhearted and whatever you do, don't use this as an excuse to drop off the wagon!

It's also a very good reason why you should take your measurements as well as weighing, and a very good idea to keep a food/drink/snack diary, so make sure that you're not allowing carb creep.

So. Keep on keeping on. Remember the water, and don't forget to make sure you're keeping the fat levels up.

Here's to next week!

QueenStromba · 24/05/2012 20:34

I make ice cream with a mixture of Greek yoghurt and cream - I'll post a recipe in the recipe thread.

Thegoddessblossom · 24/05/2012 21:22

In a change to the published schedule, tea was not a mushroom omelette.... It was a rather unorthodox combo of a bag of leek and cabbage stir fried, with 2 fried eggs. Grin

Manvsfood · 24/05/2012 21:32

Hello all, my wife posts on here as cheeseandgherkins and suggested forced that I post this thread for a bit of support Blush I'm usually more of a lurker and posting is somewhat out of my comfort zone, hopefully no one minds me posting and joining in here and there! I've posted once or twice before on some of the craft threads in and around Christmas, but I've name changed as I'd rather keep my fight against flab to myself Blush

I'm a pretty big guy and I've got a LOT to lose to be my ideal weight :( Unfortunately I've had pretty bad health over the past god knows how long and as a result my weight has ballooned far far beyond my comfort level and I'm really down in the dumps about it. I've been on Steroids for about a year and as a result of an illness I have, I can't really exercise much at all. I hated my appearance a year ago, but I'd give an arm to be back where I was then now!

To cut a long, boring story short, I've been trying this bootcamp for 4 days now and I've lost about 6 pounds. I've tried both SW and WW over the past year or so and I can say after just 4 days, that this is far superior, I'm not ravenous, I'm not worrying about weighing everything and counting everything I do... and I'm actually losing weight.

On the other hand, I'm getting sick of eating bloody Eggs and I dread breakfast every day Confused

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 24/05/2012 21:52

hi manvfood

very welcome on the bootcamp. You really dont have to eat eggs for breakfast every day. Grin

You can have whatever you want (as long as it is low carb) how about some avocado, tomato, salad and mushrooms? Or have a look at the recipe thread that the low carbers have going and see what you fancy from the list?

well done on your loss so far.

slowlyburningcalories · 24/05/2012 21:53

How about a nice bit of fish for breakfast rather than eggs? Or cook extra the night before and reheat that for breakfast - breakfast is just another meal, it doesn't have to be 'traditional'

slowly and sure wins the race to health :)

QueenStromba · 24/05/2012 21:56

Welcome to the thread Manvsfood. Steroids are horrible things - I always put on loads of weight on them. If you're on steroids though I'm guessing it's an immunological problem which means that a low carb diet is likely to improve your condition due to the elimination of wheat. My asthma and psoriasis have both gotten an awful lot better since I stopped eating wheat. I recommend checking all ingredients labels for a couple of weeks to avoid anything with wheat in it to see if that helps. Another thing that would be worth thinking about is your omega6:omega3 ratio. Omega 6 is highly inflammatory while omega 3 counteracts its effects so if the balance is out of whack you get general inflammation which could make an immunological condition worse.

As for the eggs - don't forget that there are many different ways of cooking eggs which to me seem like totally different things. If you've been having loads of scrambled eggs then switch to fried, boiled or poached. Don't forget that you don't have to eat "breakfast food" at breakfast time - there is nothing stopping you from making extra at dinner and having that for breakfast.

LittleFrieda · 24/05/2012 22:18

breakfast smoked haddock
lunch caesar salad with a whole tin of anchovies
dinner half an avocado and prawn mayonnaise

Manvsfood · 24/05/2012 22:35

Thank you for the helpful responses :) It seems so wrong to eat anything other than a 'breakfasty' type meal in the morning! I'll try thinking outside of the box a little more and eat something a little less.. Eggy.

QueenStromba I'm on Steroids this time around to treat ITP, where by my Platelet count is near non existent. I was on a dose of 160mg (32 tablets..) to begin with and I packed on an enormous amount of weight in no time at all :(.
Whilst this isn't exactly Immunological, I do suffer long-term from Lupus SLE, which is basically the root of all of my medical problems to date. I'm taking the Steroids to stop me from bleeding spontaneously, yet I'm taking other medications to stop me from clotting as well after my 7th DVT.. I'm a mess, but getting there.

I'm sure losing weight will help, but it's a vicious cycle on other so called diets - eat well, exercise and you lose weight.. what if you can't exercise a lot? You eat well and low carb apparently :)

QueenStromba · 25/05/2012 00:07

I googled lupus and wheat and got this which I'm really not surprised about since you'll get a similar result if you google any disease involving the immune system plus wheat. I can almost guarantee that you'll feel a lot better after a few weeks of being meticulously gluten free - to do this you really do have to check the ingredient label of everything even the things you think only have one ingredient because the stuff is in absolutely everything. I actually thought I had lupus for a while because I was constantly suffering from the non specific immunological symptoms that you get with lupus but now that I am low carb and gluten free I feel fine.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/05/2012 07:20

Manvsfood - hello there! We've actually met, nice to see you on MN, these lovelies will be so helpful. They are fabulous!

Well I'm off to give blood this afternoon and I'm hoping it will have enough oomph being that it is carb free.

BIWItheBold · 25/05/2012 07:25

That's a bit of a cheating way to lose weight, Pistey!

Welcome Manvsfood! When I'm in front of a computer I will answer you more fully - I'm to great on the iPad keyboard. But to echo Pistey, lots of help and support here, and well done so far.

Hello, can I please join you all? I've lurked every so often and seeing that you're seeing some great results! I've done well with weight loss, have lost 2 and 1/2 stone baby weight just eating 3 balanced meals a days, with no ba snacking.

However, I've put on maybe 1/2 a stone over the last month due to high stress and binge eating on rubbish when I can't cope with it all...not great long term! My main concern is my tummy.

I'm 5ft4" and 9stone today.

BIWItheBold · 25/05/2012 08:13

Welcome, Makingmama! Official weigh-in day is Monday.

Make sure you have read Bootcamp rules - and that you have a copy of the allowed veg firmly stored in your brain!

jan2011 · 25/05/2012 08:16

hi makingmama great that you have joined :) :) sorry you have been stressed and binging - maybe try to call a friend, or get out for a walk, or have a list of things that will help distract you when you feel tempted. of course, its hard in practise but hopefully this low carb plan will help you.

i have had a sneaky half tea spoon of honey with my coffee this morning hides from biwi

on a positive note, i did the online shop, and have ordered all the 'right' veggies, eggs, and fish in abundance so im looking forward to a lowcarb week. i also learnt to add more salt which helps my muscles feel less weak (due to fluid not being retained anymore, salt also is not retained so sometimes we need more on lowcarb) and this has helped with energy.

BIWItheBold · 25/05/2012 08:27

Shock @ jan!

Good point about the salt.n also you may find that you need to supplement your diet with potassium, especially drinking all the water

Avocados are a good source of potassium. You could also consider using Lo Salt instead/as well as salt.

Makingmama · 25/05/2012 08:55

Focusing on less than 3g carbs per 100g, so is that in everything? Yogurt etc? Just so I can label check properly. I've just had 2 boiled eggs with a tbsp of mayonnaise for breakfast with mug of nettle and fennel tea.

BettyBathroom · 25/05/2012 09:11

What remedial action does everyone take if they fall off the wagon....

Yesterday I went out for lunch - goats cheese salad to start, fish to follow - all sounding good, v low carbs but they I went weak at the knees for a Bakewell Tart with creme anglais and double cream - so I didn't have any dinner last night - and I'm heading to Bootcamp this morning, which should work off those carbs.

Damn puddings get me everytime, the proper ones, made with due care and attention - I just love them Blush

Ilovemyteddy · 25/05/2012 09:24

Welcome Manvsfood and Makingmama

Has anyone developed an intolerance to food that they could previously eat with no problem? I don't eat many berries, but the last few times I have had berries I have been almost immediately violently sick.

Anyone know what that's all about?

heartstart · 25/05/2012 10:05

I love it maybe that you had a mild intolerance and that because you've eaten more than usual it has aggravated and sensitised you to them, this is how allergic responses work. I now can't eat prawns as I went to an event and stuffed my face ate two plates rather than have a dessert. I had never had a problem with prawns and now if I eat even 1 my belly feels like I've eaten glassSad

NotMostPeople · 25/05/2012 10:38

Morning all and hello ManvFood.

I know it's not weigh in day, but I weighed myself this morning and I've lost another two pounds having lost one earlier in the week. This means that I have now lost exactly one stone!!!! It also means that I'm now at 11stone and only one pound to go until I'm in the 10's. The last time I was in the 10's was before my dd1 was born almost thirteen years ago!

HOnestly BIWI I know you keep saying that you did this to keep yourself on the straight and narrow but you really have made a lot of women happier (and men too I suspect).

Manvfood - try protein shakes in the morning I can't cope with too many cooked breakfasts either and these work for me. I make mine with unsweetened soya milk as milk is very carby. I bought whey protein powder in a huge tub from Tesco by all the weight training stuff. There are quite a few different types some are high in carbs so check the ingredients.

B: bacon and poached egg
L: chicken cesar salad
S: who knows, but I will be having a glass of wine

MNP · 25/05/2012 11:17

B:meds and .5L
L:on the road, cuc, carrot and ham
D:steak, broc and asparagus.
