The only thing I could think of to rhyme with 'six' for a catchy thread title was 'ketostix'. But as I don't advocate those, I was stuck!

By now, hopefully you're in the sway of things. Weight loss each week may be less spectacular, but should be reasonably consistent if you stick to the knitting Smile

You may also be finding that it's not happening for you consistently. It is an odd thing - and I have no idea if it's unique to low carbing - but it's not uncommon to go for a couple of weeks without losing, and then for the scales to suddenly drop. However, don't be downhearted and whatever you do, don't use this as an excuse to drop off the wagon!

It's also a very good reason why you should take your measurements as well as weighing, and a very good idea to keep a food/drink/snack diary, so make sure that you're not allowing carb creep.

So. Keep on keeping on. Remember the water, and don't forget to make sure you're keeping the fat levels up.

Here's to next week!

Hurrah!

(I am so glad it's working for people - the responsibility is massive!!!)

NB and another lb done making six in total since I started dieting but not since locarb start (can't remember what that was) - have maybe lost 3 thanks to Sgt Major Biwi

SharonGless · 24/05/2012 10:31

Did well with my food last night but did rubbish in the alcohol front. Nearly a whole bottle of red wine. Paying for it today though but throwing the water down in an attempt to feel better. Team meetings all day so got to pull myself together and motivate them all. Just going to copy BIWI!

Jacaqueen · 24/05/2012 10:32

Walked Ds to school this morning then walked to supermarket, bought lovely lowcarb food, walked back home up huge hill carrying bags. I swear it must be 70 deg out there.

Going to try and up my water as I feel a bit bloaty with the heat.

slowlyburningcalories · 24/05/2012 11:34

Morning weigh in was 12lbs, so I don't know if we should be drinking more that litres of water given the hot weather? I have drunk 2 already, my office is suffocating!

I am going on Bootcamp extra - had eggs for lunch, two small coffees (up at 5.30am so needed) and will head to waitrose for lunch. Fancy salad, moya and cooked protein - fish/meat etc.

I have been eating too much processed protein on reflection - and I have three days of holiday food ahead of me. Maybe we should have a general list of good foods to eat to remind some of us what is ok.

Eggs.
Meat.
Fish.
Salad, cauliflower, broccoli. Um.
Lots and Lots and LOTS of water!

TinTinsSexySister · 24/05/2012 12:15

Day 4 and feeling a bit despondent. Really want something sweet - even though I normally don't have a sweet tooth, so that's odd - and I don't feel any thinner.

Just tried last year's shorts on and they don't do up. Think that's what's made me Sad.

B'fast: Ham (sorry), Avocado & cheese
Lunch: tuna salad with some mayo (Bay Tree was the lowest carb I could find BTW)
Dinner: ?

Ilovemyteddy · 24/05/2012 13:09

Don't be despondent, Tintin. Just stick at it and I promise you'll be able to get those shorts on. 4 days is really early in the process and you'll just need to dig in and use some willpower. Keep going and soon this will cease to be a diet and become the way that you eat now. Trust me Grin

NigellasGuest · 24/05/2012 13:09

BIWI - reading your OP again, i'm interested as to why Ketostix are a bit of a no-no in your book. Is it because you can end up a bit obsessed by testing yourself? hides ketostix

Good news - I have definitely lost half a stone in 10 days. I recorded 3lb loss on the magic spreradsheet on Monday because I was being ultra-cautious, but it was more like 4lb I think, and now some more has dropped off. I do weigh every day, but that's because I need to be reminded how much it can fluctuate. Today I put on my purple gardening trousers (sound fab, don't they Confused) and I could do them up - that's a first for a long time!

I am monitoring my cravings for sweet stuff, which has always been my downfall in the past. I mean proper, proper cravings. So far, so good on this WOE. But I am about to enter PMT phase which is when it usually kicks in.... this month I am trying out a cocktail of vitamins which is supposed to be good for PMT sweet/carby cravings. Hopefully along with this WOE they will have some effect as I enter my danger time! I really really do NOT want to put that half stone back on, just because the evil Sugar Devil comes knocking ....

Spamspamspam · 24/05/2012 13:34

Tintin - stick with it! Day 4 is often the worse as you are probably going into ketosis and still feeling a bit bleurgh but honestly in a day or so you will suddenly feel better, have more energy and feel great. Keep going, it really is worth it!

teaandthorazine · 24/05/2012 13:35

Nigella that's amazing, well done! aren't you glad you came? Wink

Uni day for me, so am sitting on the southbank eating sashimi in blazing sunshine. Got great feedback on my last assignment. Am wearing sleeveless vest top. Happiness Smile

slowlyburningcalories · 24/05/2012 13:45

Well blow me down with a feather. Our uni canteen - usually known for its carb laden options and wilted salad cowering in a corner has upped its game. We can now get a salad 'box' which involved heaps of fresh green salad and dressings (I avoided the tomatoes, beans, peppers, sweetcorn, coleslaw) and two servings of protein (including poached salmon, quiche (which I avoided) and cheese for £3

Awesome. So now back to my desk panicking about my research and yet full too :)

And drinking MORE water!

MNP · 24/05/2012 13:53

B:meds and .25L
L:dressed crab with spinach, pea shoot leaves, mayo and grated cheese and cucumber and 1L
D:baked sea bream, broccoli, mayo (subject to clarification)

LittleFrieda · 24/05/2012 14:10

I'm off to Greece on Saturday - Greek salad is presumably fine if I only eat a small number of tomatoes? And would moussaka be OK if I leave the potatoes?

And how much wine am I allowed? I will be playing lots of tennis and swimming 50 lengths before breakfast every morning.

obrigada · 24/05/2012 15:41

Am really interested in starting Bootcamp Week 1, is the WOE possible on a tight budget?

TinTinsSexySister · 24/05/2012 16:00

Thanks for messages of support. Just been for lunch picnic on the common, took my own salad and everyone else had ice-cream from the ice-cream van Envy but I did not.

Feel virtuous but hungry.

If I made a carbonara sauce for dinner and had it with courgette strips instead of pasta that would be ok wouldn't it?

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 24/05/2012 16:04

Obrigda - I've only been following this WOE of eating for a short time but although you spend more on meat and cheese you spend less on fruit. I've also been having eggs for breakfast which are cheaper than some cereals.

And no biscuits, cakes or bread, another saving.

QueenStromba · 24/05/2012 16:10

It is possible to do this pretty cheaply if you're happy to eat the cheaper cuts of meat (or even offal), eggs and frozen veg. Also, check out the reduced section for meat - I've had some great hauls from there. It's probably cheaper than eating a load of junk food but it's more expensive than cooking everything from scratch and padding meals out with lentils etc.

BerylStreep · 24/05/2012 16:11

This weather is fab. Have dug out my summer work clothes, and they don't look too bad. I could really do with dropping about 3.5kg (to start with) though.

gothicmama · 24/05/2012 16:17

Thanks BIWI - now I'm getting my head round it all this woe may fit very well I think I may need to set up a reward chart system as I won't be able to reward myself with chocolate

LittleFrieda · 24/05/2012 16:43

I do notice I spend more on food but I bet you could do it on a budget if you were organised.

DoUntoOtters · 24/05/2012 17:10

Aldi is your friend on this WOE. Lidl too, probably, but I don't like our local one.

You may find a local butcher is cheaper still. Mine does things like bacon off-cuts and other odds and ends for next to no money, but I have been a good customer to him for many years which may be a factor.

BIWItheBold · 24/05/2012 17:18

Sainsbury's Basics meat is fab - honestly! I bought some diced chopped pork shoulder on Saturday - two packs for £4 total. Made a lovely pork vindaloo with it that easily made 3 generous portions.

Check out the breast of lamb as well - that's usually branded with Basics.

Mince is always cheap/on offer - and there are always lots of '3 for £10' offers on.

Afternoon all.

School sports day today, god it was sweltering. At least I could sit in the shade and cheer them on rather than actually having to run in this heat. Took boys onto the local river afterwards with a picnic tea for them Grin

Breakfast: last night's leftover BIWI Shepherds pie, small portion (becasue we scarfed so much of it last night [pig emoticon])
Lunch: Big salad of green leaves, mushrooms, cucumber, and smoked salmon trimmings
Snack: Tin of red salmon

Will probably have a mushroom omelette for tea.

Exercise: 25 minute run and 5 minute uphill walk on treadmill, 10 minutes on step machine, weights and situps.

Cupboards and fridge are so bare, big shop tomorrow.

smokinaces · 24/05/2012 18:20

Sainsburys also have huge bags of mixed chicken pieces with skin on for 3.99. They are fab for defrosting and roasting. Their mince is 1.25 and pork belly strips are around two quid. My shopping hasn't changed cost at all, hand on heart.

Right, what do we do about ice cream vans? Two days running I have taken the kids out there and bought them one and me just a diet coke (not great but carb free) but I can't last all summer!!!

smokinaces · 24/05/2012 18:26

Looking in my freezer ice lollies tend to be around the 11-12g of carb each.

Wonder if I can make my own using squash......

Ice cream doesn't look good either does it? :-(
