So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

In a change to the advertised menu, I didn't have salad for lunch- I had cream of leek soup.

And dinner- or as I really call it, 'tea'- was a bowl of ragu with a side salad.

I am also bunged up. I stopped taking the psyllium husks a few days ago, because I was getting painful cramps (now stopped). I have some dulcolax somewhere, might have to give one a go

Thegoddessblossom · 25/04/2012 20:53

You lot eat tea so early!

Spag Bol with broccoli instead of spag for tea. 2 glasses of red. Blush. Sorry but I just can't not have my red wine [alkie].

Swam a mile this morning at swimming training.

Have binned the rest of the salmon as tummy felt positively dicky after lunch.

Thegoddessblossom · 25/04/2012 20:55

2 handfuls of unsalted nuts.

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 25/04/2012 20:55

You swam a mile Shock

I swam a mile once, and I only did that to get a badge. I can't imagine doing that in the normal course of things. That must be 87548 lengths (felt like that when I was 8).

Thegoddessblossom · 25/04/2012 21:00

It's 64. And I did 10 warm up before we started. Grin. I should qualify this by saying I have been completely exhausted since and had a nap about 4pm....

ledkr · 25/04/2012 21:07

Hi all. I didnt want to just ditch you all.
I must admit to stopping on Monday. I was so bunged up i felt ill,was covered in bruises and more tired than ive ever been in my life.I just couldnt carry on.
I also felt as if i was developing a food obsession i never had before.

I have switched to sw red days and am really doing well.I had lost about 3 lbs but wont weigh again till next Monday.I am feeling better and have been "visiting the loo" about 3 times a day since.

The good news is that the week i lc for has completely changed me. I found it so limiting that i am really appreciating good healthy food and not craving sweets.
I am not eating pasta rice potatoes or bread but am eating some fruit and porridge for brekkie.

Dont be cross with me,i just couldnt cope and with a high risk factor for bowel cancer i couldnt risk the constpation.

You are all doing really well and im cheering you on from the side lines Grin

BettyBathroom · 25/04/2012 21:12

Odd day food wise...felt the need for snack in the morning.

B - boiled eggs
L - veggie sausages with home made coleslaw & cherry toms - 3 bites then felt sick, yuck won't be having that again! Soup tomorrow.
D - Steamed haddock with a cherry tomato sauce, spring greens & broc with a chilli & garlic infused olive oil. Enjoyed and eaten.

S hazelnuts & brazil nuts & greek yoghurt

Cheat - glass of red wine. Blush

BettyBathroom · 25/04/2012 21:14

Good luck with the Red days Ledkr 3lbs is a good loss!

Lovecat · 25/04/2012 21:16

Oh, ledkr, I hope you're feeling better now.

Well, my plans of a lovely warm stew went up in smoke - nearly literally...

I had my beef casserole bubbling & smelling lovely, put it in the oven on what I thought was a low light... well, either I knocked it or something happened because when I got back from the shops 3 hours later it was cinders. :( :( :(

DH still ate it for an appetiser. He likes chewy blackened meat...Confused

So I am now frying black farmer sausages to have with courgette fritters and celeriac chips .

The lunchtime IPD butternut, olive & feta salad was absolutely, amazingly gorgeous and sooo filling (had about 50g of butternut in it so hopefully not too bad in terms of carb count).

Does anyone else have sore legs? If I go up any kind of stairs I get an ache across the backs of my lower thighs (the bit above the knees). Weird.

GreatEXPATations · 25/04/2012 21:18

Ledkr, hey whatever works for you!

I'm with u on the obsession risk. I Had no eating disorder, have never dieted before this year and have luckily maintained a heavy weight but I have been getting way too obsessed w food, thinking about it all the time!

I've therefore decided to low carb but tweaked a bit sdo its healthy for men and I can have chocolate/wine otherwise i'll go mad. Fasting is also, strangely, a relief from it all for me so that helps also in intermittent basis...:

sorry for hijack, still a brilliant thread and still v impressed with some posters' commitment. Guess just several ways of doing this and I've had to find my own please forgive me, oh BiwiOne Grin

GreatEXPATations · 25/04/2012 21:19

Maintain a healthy weight even! Bloody iPhone autocorrect!

Twit · 25/04/2012 21:22

I swam alot today. Three times in fact as I did the school/nursery run Grin

SharonGless · 25/04/2012 21:25

Ledkr Hey whatever works for you. Sw red days are not dissimilar to LC if I remember rightly.

By the way headstart courgette noodles! Just really thin strips of courgette fried in olive oil, salt and pepper, and parsley then squeeze of lemon juice. Sort of a pasta type feel to them to eat as spag Bol

Twit · 25/04/2012 21:27

OOps sorry, hope you're ok Ledkr. I agree, I got a bit worried that I was getting a bit too focused on wht I can't eat and that is strange - despite having to give up wheat etc already.

My legs are killing me too. I started doing my belly exercises again and they really hurt quicker as well.

MNP · 25/04/2012 21:30

B:Salami and a cherry tom
L:2 slices of cold roast breast of lamb with pâté and green pepper
D:pork ribs followed by chicken thigh with feta inside and wrapped in Parma ham with spinach, cucumber salad dressed in oil and vinegar.

MNP · 25/04/2012 21:35

Good loss regardless of process used Ledkr

FourThousandHoles · 25/04/2012 21:35

Lovecat me too with the sore legs, I have a couple of flights of stairs to climb to get to my office at work and just recently they've been getting taxing... and with all the water I've been drinking I'm up and down them a lot as the toilets are at the bottom.

Protein shake
Burgers, cheese, salad
Minced beef with veg.

I think my next step is to look at my salt intake which I think has increased somewhat. Less smoked salmon, ham, cheese - more fresh fish, pork, eggs, yogurt.

Exercise still not happening, I'm going to give myself until next week and then give myself a huge kick up the --ample- arse

heartstart · 25/04/2012 21:46

Thanks Sharon - will try those sound good

Dinner was delicious lamb with coriander, tomato vinaigrette, celeriac mash and courgettes

NotMostPeople · 25/04/2012 21:48

So I posted earlier that I haven't been feeling to great today, I caved in this afternoon and ate a shortbread finger. I'd like to tell you it tasted sweet and revolting, but it didn't.

I was good the rest of the day even though I was in a coffee bar twice today I stuck to peppermint tea (ooh, that is allowed?) rather than latte's and cake.

I'm feeling a bit cross with myself, but am determined not to fail.

Still no non bacon/egg/ham breakfast ideas?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 25/04/2012 21:52

Oi, you lot - there's an awful lot of snacking on nuts and eating of fruit going on here.

THIS IS STILL BOOTCAMP! BOOTCAMP LIGHT DOESN'T START UNTIL MONDAY!

Seriously folks - you start relaxing things now and you're risking slowing things down and undoing all the good work you've been doing so far.

TheShapeJaper - if your weight has stuck/gone up, can I suggest that you stop eating quite so much dairy? With all the cheese and cream you've had, it could suggest that this is an issue for you.

Those of you with achey legs - it could be that you need more potassium. Salmon, avocado and Lo Salt are all good things to supply you with potassium.

ohforfoxsake · 25/04/2012 21:52

Notmostpeople- I've had kippers the last two days. REALLY looking forward to bacon & eggs tomorrow!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 25/04/2012 21:54

And those of you who are complaining of constipation:

  • are you really eating your veg?
  • are you eating fibrous veg - i.e. not just lettuce and cucumber
  • are you really drinking enough water?
  • are you eating enough fat?

FourThousandHoles · 25/04/2012 21:57

I have a protein shake most mornigs NotMostPeople, I have some powder which can be mixed with water and double cream.

If I eat eggs etc first thing they make me feel ill.

MyProtein Total Protein shake - a bit pricey all at once but each bag last ages, well over a month.

I'm sure BIWI wouldn't approve Grin but it's what works for me.

WizzyBizzy · 25/04/2012 22:00

Buggery bollocks I forgot about weigh in tomorrow.

I've just fallen off the wagon and am half way through my second glass of red. Sorry. To be honest it was because I found my pork stir fry really really boring and felt I needed something else. Which is odd as its the first time I've felt that on bootcamp. So I won't be having that for dinner again.

Ledkr - sounds like the right decision for you. good luck - and 3lb is great!

GetOrf thank you re peanut butter. That is great news. Actually I hate SunPat (I've always thought it too sweet) and have that Good Earth no sugar stuff anyway. Ooh I'm excited now.

slowlyburningcalories · 25/04/2012 22:04

Toddler always a bad sleeper has now sunk to new and diabolical levels. I am so so so tired.

Had a phone call late afternoon ti ask if wanted to join a pilates class starting tonight! Usually I would say no, but this time I though sod it, DH can manage, and so went an did an hour of pilates. Ten years of yoga and yet I never realised they were so different! That once a week with a run or swim on a weekend and then cycling to work with DD when weather is better should go nicely with the LC way of things.

Still bunged up though, and yes I have drunk my water, eaten my avocado and tried very hard to add in fat.
