So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

Gawd that was so self indulgent Blush
I have lost 5lbs in a week and a half, why the fuckity fuck am I despondent about that

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 10:09

Shirl - how long have you been doing this? Were you low carbing before bootcamp?

OP posts:
LackaDAILYcarb · 23/04/2012 10:13

Cross post BIWI :o
Yesterday was a bid mad workwise and I didn't get a proper break so only managed to grab a couple of snacks, so I probably didn't eat enough....though I did actually eat a slice of butter by itself at one point Blush
My SW consultant will be turning grey at the thought :o

ShirtyKnot · 23/04/2012 10:14

No. I was sick the week before we started. Everything exiting via all available exits on the Tuesday before we started followed by 2 x days living on Matzo and water...and lost 4lbs.

I then started LC (as appetite was shot to shit anyway) on the Friday before Bootcamp, and since then have lost 1.5 lbs. face

Not been cheating - the tiniest bit of cheating was 2 x vodka and fizzy waters on Friday night for my birthday.

It's a bit mad no?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 10:23

Could be that your illness is taking its toll - your body may well be trying to hang on to everything for the moment.

You haven't stalled - I think the 'official' definition of a stall is something like 6 weeks with no loss.

I would say that if what you're eating is OK (and it looks fine), and you're enjoying the food/feel well on it, just keep on keeping on.

If you haven't, take your measurements as well. You could be losing inches even if the scales aren't Your Friend at the moment.

OP posts:
londonlottie · 23/04/2012 10:25

Sounds like you could have been very dehydrated after your illness Shirley. After something like that it's normal to put the weight back on as your body normalises and rehydrates, so the fact that you haven't and have in fact lost a bit more is a success in my book!

teaandthorazine · 23/04/2012 10:30

Have just got into clinic and weighed myself on my 'official' scales (big digital ones) and hurrah! Am 69.6 kg, which means that although I've gained a bit over the weekend, I'm still at my lowest 'official scales' weight since I started LCing Grin

I really think I have to chuck out my home scales and just stick to my official ones, don't I? I may only be able to weigh myself once a week or so but that's got to be better than panicking about random fluctuations on my crappy home ones (when I weigh myself 3 times a day - aaargh, I've turned into one of Those Women)

Anyway, feta and salami salad for lunch, butternut squash soup for dinner, and tonnes of water in between.

Chin up everyone - this is fun Wink

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 10:31

Why not treat yourself to some newer/more accurate scales for home, tea?

OP posts:
teaandthorazine · 23/04/2012 10:33

Shirley, also don't forget the LC mantra - 'weight loss is not linear'. You seem to lose nothing for ages and then, whoosh, four pounds disappear overnight.

ShirtyKnot · 23/04/2012 10:35

I will carry on - I utterly adore the food and the way I feel - it's amazing. I'm sure it will start shifting. (Took measurements on Friday - am not taking them again until Friday, that way madness lies! Grin)

Thanks BIWI and londonlottie.

ShirtyKnot · 23/04/2012 10:35

oh and Thanks for tea as well!

teaandthorazine · 23/04/2012 10:40

Tbh BIWI I don't really like having scales in the house full stop. I actually struggled quite a bit with starting any sort of weight loss programme in the first place because I've always been rather scathing of women who fussed about their weight Blush. It felt, well, antifeminist for want of a better word! So for years I didn't weigh myself and made a point of not having a clue how much I weighed - and then I started to pile it on about a year ago. I didn't feel like a free spirited feminist anymore, I felt like a lumpy blob! And so I bought (crappy) scales but I'm embarrassed about having them... They are hidden in the bathroom and no one knows I have them!

I'm not quite sure what my point is Grin but I think I'll just chuck em out and be done with it!

encyclogirl · 23/04/2012 10:48

Shirl, I also adore this WOE, I really feel I can just eat like this forever.

No further weightloss for me this morning, so 1.5lbs for last week, BUT that was the famous week 3 for me. So any loss is good really.

I am struggling to run on a low carb plan, but I think my body just needs time to adjust. Once it does I'll be fine I think. It's amazing not being a slave to the cravings.

Plus, I'm wearing a dress from Gap today that hasn't fitted me properly since last September when I was running 25miles+ a week!

Going shopping in your own wardrobe is pretty cool Grin

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 10:49

Daft. Because then you're going somewhere else to weigh, when you will be wearing clothes/shoes, will already have eaten/drunk something ...

But I do get your drift. Fat is/is not/is/is not a feminist issue!

Grin

Ah don't worry BIWI - I lock the door and strip off to my undies Grin

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 11:06

Wouldn't it just be a lot easier to have a set at home then?! Grin

Morning.

Late start as 'resting' between jobs and allowing my fibro lashings of sleep.

L:chicken wings and ham with mayo lettuce and spinach
D:not decided
S:cucumber and pâté

After the huge blip of yesterday I have thankfully maintained my 1lb weekly loss, onwards and upwards as you say.

I am planning to stick to boot camp rules for 4 weeks to see a shift in weight.

My motivation is working near Nice for half of July and all of Aug this year and not wanting to be the blob at the poolside, the others are all thin.

smokinaces · 23/04/2012 11:15

Argh. Have just baked chocolate cookies for the kids. Managed to not lick my fingers, or pinch one so far - but they smell sooooo good.

Am at home and bored today. This is dodgy ground with picking. So far had scrambled egg for breakie, some olives and chicken as a snack. Might do early lunch. I am starting to really want something sweet I admit, but won't give in.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 11:19

Don't give in!!!

Drink water, more water and a little bit more water Grin

OP posts:
teaandthorazine · 23/04/2012 11:25

Grin BIWI - why keep it simple when you can needlessly overcomplicate things?

Feeling quite snacky today (but have nothing to snack on so will make go with water). Must be the side effects of a relatively carby weekend, the cravings are creeping back.

SwimmingWithBowLeggedWomen · 23/04/2012 11:30

I had my first MiM this morning. Quite liked it, and will be good to take to work, as I can't do breakfast first thing. Going to make some for DP later, he is 3 months into LC so has a lot more flexibility, was thinking choc and hazelnut, will that work? It will hopefully stop him looking wistfully at me and whispering "Cake?" in his weaker moments!

On the subject of weigh-ins, my GP told me that in her opinion, women should only weigh themselves once a month due to the fluctuations in water retention around periods. It's a great theory, but it doesn't stop me gravitating towards the scales daily....

Thegoddessblossom · 23/04/2012 11:42

Lacka - tiredness makes anything hard, never mind changing your WOE. Hard to know what to suggest.... sending support thought. Smile

B: 3 egg and smoked salmon omelette, fried in butter, with some cherry tomatoes.
S: one teaspoon of crunchy peanut butter

nearly 3 litres of water already.

Trips to loo = 17 Grin

Planning mackerel salad for lunch. Not sure for tea, better get cracking and decide....probably another salad as off to movies.

caramelwaffle · 23/04/2012 11:54

Does anyone else have the problem that their appetite completely goes?

I have a day off and am cleaning house top to bottom so am at home and so far have had lots of herbal tea and water

Trips to loo = goodness knows Grin

I'm thinking I should eat something however I have no hunger.

Do you eat for the time, or the appetite.

Thegoddessblossom · 23/04/2012 11:57

Caramel I do find that I am nothungrynothungrynothungry and then suddenly ravenous. I guess to avoid tripping up when you get ravenous, it's better to eat at the normal meal intervals......I guess.....

heartstart · 23/04/2012 11:58

Hello please can I join in? I have been watching the thread, made some Oopsie rolls and had them with Chicken and Avocado for breakfast and am on 2nd pint of water
