So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

Apart from the above, some remedies for constipation:

  • strong coffee
  • high strength vitamin C
  • (lots more) water!
  • exercise

And if it's really bad, get hold of some Thornton's Sugar-Free chocolate/toffee Grin

Love the bowel obsession. I am possibly bunged up but considering I did Olympic grade shitting for 2 days it's kind of a relief!

Been an ok day,
B boiled egg mashed in a cup w butter
L salad w egg mayo and ham (bit heavy on peppers and onion)
D meatballs w salad

I'm thinking of going to boot camp lite on Saturday but not sure if I ever want to leave the comfort of boot camp. Would really love a wee glass of wine though.

SharonGless · 25/04/2012 22:27

Got an avocado in the fridge. Have to fess up as never been fond of them but thought I would be adventurous. What goes well with it and make it taste more interesting? Allergic to prawns but open to suggestions losers

slowlyburningcalories · 25/04/2012 22:27

I'll give it till Friday, we've a trip planning to the big city so some sugar free toffee might fall into my bag.

I am 100% drinking my water however!

MariaCallous · 25/04/2012 22:31

I'd leave it in the fridge Sharon. Boak.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 25/04/2012 22:33

Chop avocado.

Chop up two rashers of smoked bacon and fry till crisp.
Slice 1-2 spring onions, and chuck in with the bacon and heat briefly.
Add bacon and onions to the avocado, then dress with olive oil and red wine vinegar. Season with black pepper.

Oh, and the other thing re constipation. Are you really constipated - or are you just going less than you used to?

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 25/04/2012 22:34

I love avocado. nice in a salad with crispy bacon and dressing.

WizzyBizzy · 25/04/2012 22:51

Love avocado. Just have it on its own, bit of pepper. Yum. It seems to be harder and harder to get nice ones though. And you need to slice them at exactly the right stage of rightness - not too hard not too soft. And I never keep them in the fridge!

slowlyburningcalories · 25/04/2012 22:51

I am, ahem, most royally bunged up!

WizzyBizzy · 25/04/2012 22:51

p.s. if you keep avocados and bananas in the fruit bowl together they will both get riper quicker than normal. Weird but true - useful if you have a hard avocado that you want to eat soon!

SharonGless · 25/04/2012 22:57

Cheers - why not in fridge Wizzy? They were displayed in chilled cabinet which is why I. Put mine in

WizzyBizzy · 25/04/2012 22:58

They won't ripen properly in the fridge. But they can over ripen very quickly out of the fridge if not careful. Tis the bugger of avocados.

WizzyBizzy · 25/04/2012 22:59

rightness above should have read 'ripeness' obviously. Autocorrect grr.

NotMostPeople · 25/04/2012 23:20

Fourthousand what flavour do you have and how does it taste?

GreatEXPATations · 26/04/2012 04:31

GreatEXPATations · 26/04/2012 04:37

Notmostpeople, hello!! You set up the intermittent diet thread, didn't you? Well I must really thank you for that. How did u go on it? I followed strictly for 3 months , now occasionally or do fast til lunchtime. Be v in interested to hear yr experience as thread now died a death : (

GreatEXPATations · 26/04/2012 05:45

Also on avocados, lovely w tinned salmon and mayo w salad..
Well, talk about yo-yoing! Last loss only 0.5 lb by mon now today
a whopping 4.5lbs so 9 st 4 lbs! V pleased, if real, asscales slightly geriatric...whoo-oo! There's hope for us all! Biwi's right, the weight can stall then suddenly drop off! Must, must avoid cycle of self sabotage this w.e to avoid being back where I started.

MrsNouveauRichards · 26/04/2012 07:09

Morning.

Wow GreatEx! Well done!

I don't like avocados, I can have small amounts of guacamole, but not on its own.

Not feeling optimistic about any weightloss tbh, but I kind of don't mind, I feel I have broken some bad food habits and got into some good ones. Even if I carry on being half good it is going to be beneficial. Half a stone off would be nice though :o

FauxFox · 26/04/2012 07:30

Morning all, today's plan is
B: bacon
L: soup
D: Goats cheese and red pepper frittata with salad

I'm weighing in tomorrow and expect to STS which is fine as I had a big loss last week and I haven't been quite as strict this week with wine and nuts creeping in. I will be relaxing the wine ban on Fri and Sat night and getting serious again Sunday-Friday next week to try and shift the next few lbs Grin

Lovecat · 26/04/2012 07:53

Morning all!

I have remained same as last week, 11st 10lb, but given that I had a pizza and ice cream in that week, I am v. happy at being 6lb down. 12 packs of lard! :o

Can also report that the Unfeasibly Tight Work Trousers are now comfortably loose on the waist (but still snug on the hips) so a big hurrah!

(TMI alert - have yet to poo this week so am hoping that will make a difference when I do...)

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 08:29

Maybe the next thread I start should be about progress on the toilet rather than on the scales! Grin

I went twice this morning.

GreatEXPATations · 26/04/2012 08:32

Thx Mrsnouveau.. Well, we're all heading in the right direction and loose clothes probably best indication of losing fat. Is weigh in tomorrow now then? trying not to sound disappointed as planning chic and wine later

WizzyBizzy · 26/04/2012 08:35

Morning all. Where are we weighing in? No further loss since Tuesday but I've cheated a bit this week and Tuesday's weight was my goal for the fortnight so I'm still pretty happy. I am going to be good again for the next few days and see if I can keep tracking downwards. I've got half a stone to go to reach my ultimate goal which is my long term pre-baby weight so I'm hoping will be relatively sustainable.

Today is like this:

B: Total yogurt with flaxseed (first time I've not had eggs for breakfast and tbh I didn't enjoy it at all!).
L: Omelet (err, having a moment - how do you spell it??) with mushrooms and various green veg
D: Roast chicken with fennel and something else tbd

Weather is bloody awful. Have various jobs to do this morning but cannot face leaving the house (lucky that I have this option I know!).

NotMostPeople · 26/04/2012 08:53

GreatExpatations, yes I had high hopes for the intermittent diet but for whatever reason it didn't work for me. I think I need to be on a plan everyday rather than swapping about. Glad it went well for you, I still think it's a good alternative if it can work for you.
