Hi all
Thank you very much to those who have friended me on MFP it's great to have company. I too am finding it a revelation to understand just how many calories are in things like fruit juice!

Had a good day today as I did lots of exercise and still managed to keep food just over 1000 calories. Hope it shows on the scales tomorrow. I'm afraid I can't avoid weighing myself everyday I'm to impatient to wait a week.

I'm afraid my snacks are not healthy ones I just eat them in very small quantities. Sweet popcorn is my favourite at the moment.

annieshaf · 24/02/2012 22:19

Say nothing- I too have to avoid gluten as I have celiacs and it is hard. I have also become much more sensitive to it if i eat it by mistake after 2 years of cutting it out completely. However it does reach you how to control what you eat which has made calorie counting a bit easier.

saynothing · 24/02/2012 23:02

I'm not full coeliac just an intolerance but I reckon it's as bad sometimes, although it did disappear when I was Pg, cue stuffing face with gluten rich foods! Hence why I had to loose weight!

U done very well to stay off it a full two years, I struggle to do two weeks. Back to work soon and I find it very hard to do it while I'm at work as opposed to being at home and being able to cook things iyswim. I'm also off sliced bread for lent (I eat genius bread) so it will be twice as hard as no sandwiches.

Got ur friend request btw!

needthistowork · 24/02/2012 23:15

jchocchip well done on the weight loss that is great and an inspiration for me

cinnamongreyhound · 25/02/2012 07:28

You all do well to cut out gluten and dairy! I guess it's easier if it actually makes you feel bad but I could never do low carb as I love bread and pasta.

I was shocked too at how many calories in houmous needthistowork! I have just got my first graze box which is yummy but some are higher calories than others, also eating pears quite often as they're not as harsh on an empty stomach as apples and less calories than a banana :)

It's great isn't it jchocchip! Lots of people have started noticing my weight loss now too, makes you feel so much more positive about carrying on!

IBlameThePenguins · 25/02/2012 08:45

Rigjt, I shall had pears to the shopping list too!

Had a delicious treat of dark choc last night. Sadly, I couldn't stick to the 3.squarrs i'd allowed myself (i chowed.them down while the kettle boiled) but still stayed under my allowance. Using mfp is definitely helping me to be less compulsive when out.comes to food- I'd have had the whole bar before!

Jchocchip. That is really fsntastic. How long has it taken you to achieve?

trice · 25/02/2012 18:43

I made apple crumble for tea and then ate a huge bowl and went back for seconds. It was my first binge since starting mfp. Typically when I am on a diet and I give in to a binge I say to myself "I've messed up now, might as well eat everything else as well!"
I didn't this time. I logged my food and I will make up the difference in the next few days. Quite empowering. I feel like a grown up. A slightly greedy one; but much more in control.

jchocchip · 25/02/2012 19:44

Yes it is great when people notice, cinamon. Penguins, I gained the weight after my third (she's nearly 14) and had lost a stone during 2011. I started mfp properly in November/December and got below 20 stone just before Christmas. It's taken me 2 months to lose the next stone which is fine by me, I'm aiming for 1lb a week now and trying to build some muscle rather than get left with lots of skin...

jchocchip · 25/02/2012 19:49

trice, that is exactly it, one binge day will not undo all your good work and by logging everything, it becomes easier to know how big a portion to have next time or at least you know how long you have to walk to earn those calories!

trice · 25/02/2012 23:25

Two stone is great going jchoc. You must be pleased.

bexsybooboo · 26/02/2012 16:59

Hey everyone Smile

It's been what seems like a long time since I have blogged on here and logged properly on MFP Sad

I have lost a little of the mojo that has been keeping me going but not too much as I have managed to maintain the weight and not put even a ib on Smile.

From Monday though I aim to come back with the determination and passion that I started with 190 days ago awhile back Grin

New gym opens Wednesday so hopefully that will help and work. The plan is running Monday, Wednesday (as thinking gym will be rammed on opening night), Thursday swim and Sunday my very first spin class Hmm then following week run, swim and gym and spin again on Sunday if I survived my first spin class the week before)

It has been nice reading everyones progress i'm not jealous or feel like a let down Envy

Keep it up ladies you are all doing so blimmin well Smile

For any newbies that i've not caught up with due to lack of self control and motivation having a tough couple of weeks at work and home please feel free to add me: bexsy on MFP.

RGPARGY, SWEET and JCHOCCHIP my burns will be returning lol Smile

jchocchip · 27/02/2012 08:35

The new gym sounds great Bexsy, you will have to go to get your moneys worth :) I'm still waiting for my book, that will teach me to order from America! New Rules of Lifting. I did a few squats and bench press with the free weights at the gym on Saturday, so I have started even without it. I do need a spotter though for the heavier weights, and the gym is almost always deserted when I go!

bexsybooboo · 27/02/2012 22:17

jchocchip you are doing brilliantly. You should get the peeps who work at gym to spot for you.

I done my run tonight but felt awful cant believe how my fitness levels have decreased in just 2 weeks Sad doesn't bode well for my first spin class tomorrow reckon it could finish me off Wink

Well am definitely going to put my all in to it this week but not expecting to see results til a week on Friday.

Hope everyone has a great week Smile

piratecat · 28/02/2012 11:22

i lost 6 lbs on mfp, in two weeks, but nothing in the last 2. sticking to the same cals of 1200, which also i havent managed to eat every day, going under mainly.

any ideas what i can do, i haven't been exercising during any of it. has my metabolism slowed down and got used to the 1200?

i do find it hard to eat all the carbs.

AmazingDisgrace · 28/02/2012 17:51

1200 may be too low and going under 1200 is not usually a good idea as it can send the body into starvation mode. I'd try exercising and eating back half the calories lost during that. I'm on 1350 and exercising twice a week. if I feel my weight loss is slowing or plateauing I have a cheat day but still not go over 1500 that seems to kick start the loss a week later. Another idea may be to cut back on the carbs and increase protein

piratecat · 28/02/2012 18:48

thanks amazingdisgrace.

today i have 173 cals left, 35 carbs but no proteins. so you think it ok to have those cals in protein? i am so 'wahhhh' when i see it go into the red!

What would you have as an 'over' then. I take it you are not saying 'pirate have a donut to kickstart?' !?

jchocchip · 28/02/2012 18:52

mfp protein goal is a minimum according to some, especially if you are exercising.

bucketbetty · 28/02/2012 18:54

Hi all, I've been away for a few weeks and managed to put on the 3 pounds I lost. I couldn't care less to be honest given it took 5 weeks to shift a measly 3 pounds. I've nor been eating well but I have taken up cycling to and from work now the weathers better. I've lost my hope of losing weight but i think its good I try to keep healthy and mindful of what I'm eating. Glad to read all the good news stories.

needthistowork · 29/02/2012 14:07

first week weigh in and i have lost 5 pounds Smile

IBlameThePenguins · 29/02/2012 14:10

Hi all, hope everyone's well. I had my weigh in today, and have lost another 2.5 lb. that's 7.5 in total now! I know it's not much compared to lots of you, but I feel so pleased. I am now 11 stone, so hopefully next week i'll be in the 10 stone bracket! Yay!

Dp has an interview today after 6 months of redundancy... I feel so nervous for him,.and am desperately trying not to just sit here and eat losts, which used to be my standard response to any emotion!

AmazingDisgrace · 29/02/2012 16:52

Hi Pirate, you can certainly eat those cals as protein. I'm trying to eat less carbs and fat than MFP seems to advise and more protein. no scientific basis for it but it seems to make sense to my cake starved brain.

When I'm having a cheat day ( normally at the weekend) I'll have grilled bacon, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and toast for brunch as we normally get up late so am able to skip breakfast) That leaves me enough calories to have home made pizza in the evening which is about 750 cals - I usually have spinach mushrooms black olives and egg on mine. DH makes the dough really thin for me which is how I prefer it anyway. and a handmade tomato and garlic sauce I usually have enough to have a few vodka and tonics too*. If you add in cups of tea and a large latte then I easily can get up to 1500.

Basically have what you want, have whatever is going to make you happy and guilty as sin in equal measure then get back on the diet the next day. if you consistently under eat and deny yourself that is unsustainable in the long term.

  • If i dont have enough cals left I have been known to do a workout just so I can have a couple or three vodkas. Shameful I know
IBlameThePenguins · 29/02/2012 19:04

Needthis, I managed to miss your post before. Sorry! Wow, that's really fantastic. Bet you're well chuffed! :)

RGPargy · 29/02/2012 20:39

Hi everyone :)

Just a quick catch up! Well done to those who have lost! I am not looking forward to my weigh in on Friday as i dont feel like i have lost anything. My eating has been way too carby for my liking. Not sure if it's coming up to TOM maybe?? (i am currently on hormone contraceptive jab so dont have periods - hoorah!) I just feel like i really want need carby stuff atm.Hmm

I do have a fitness weekender coming up on Friday so i am really looking forward to getting on the booze doing loads of exercise classes. Cant remember my record - think it was 10 or 11 for the weekend?? Hmm

Bexsy - looking forward to seeing those calorie burns add up!! :o

FrumpyPumpy · 29/02/2012 23:24

Hi everyone. Signed up for a extortionate course of hypnotherapy today, am determined not to put this weight back on.

Can I ask a newbie. Low carb question? How many grams per day is low carb pls?

cinnamongreyhound · 29/02/2012 23:44

Well done ineedthistowork and IBlameThePenguins!

I agree piratecat that you need your diet to be sustainable and if you constantly deprive yourself you won't keep it up. My dh used to body build and did a lot of calorie counting, he now power lifts and is constantly trying to gain weight but he is always telling me I need a cheat day!! I have bits and pieces here and there so I don't feel I'm missing out but just keep it small. Don't know what to say about weight stall, mines slowed a bit but I tend to fluctuate the rate of weightloss during my monthly cycle.

I just want to eat everything and anything at my tom RGpargy think it's normal!!
