Sparkling new thread Grin

Firstly, the Golden Rules

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONCIOUSLY
  4. STOP when you are satisfied

Here is the book on Amazon which is all you need to get started!

This is the tapping technique explained - this can be useful for cravings.

Please feel free to join us :)

Here is a handy for helping to recognise your full/satisfied feelings.

OP posts:

Some tips - put your fork & knife down between mouthfulls

Eat with no distractions (No tv/PC/reading)

Chew each mouthfull 20 times

Try to leave soemthing, at least 1 bite, on your plate (resign from the "clean your plate club" NOW)

Try to listen to the CD once a day to start with (it's ok if you fall asleep while listening).

DROP the diet mentality! Eat what you want, do not eat what you think you should be eating!

Be kind & forgive yourself :)

Thanks for the new thread! I know I have only been at this a week but feel really positive today, was sitting at the computer last night and didn't want to nibble because I could regognise that I wasn't hungry, even though there was a piece of cake in the fridge with my name on it Grin I still haven't had it...

I did however have half a bowl of pasta for breakfast. I felt hungry about an hour and a half after getting up but following the Paul way, I should eat what I like and I don't like breakfast cereal, toast, eggs etc. I guess it's till ok because I just had enough to satisfy me and then stopped.

My only tip to add is... Post on here often, it is a HUGE help. Thanks all!

DingDongMerrilyOutOfSeason · 04/05/2011 10:34

Actually, this thread really is helping because everytime I have a break at work I post on here, leaving less time to peruse the tasty snacks lying around!

ppeatfruit · 04/05/2011 10:47

Hello!! Also do the exercise you ENJOY if the shred is too much dance or power walk and or do pilates whatever instead you'll still loose on P.M.

PositiveAttitude · 04/05/2011 10:56

At work, so just a quick post to mark my spot!! Grin

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 04/05/2011 11:06

Dingdong, you have made an amazing start :) I love the positivity Paul gives you, compared to the deprssion you seem to get on diets.

PP Im only doing walking so far, but I have gone from a 45 dawdle to a 60 minute, 4 mile powerwalk!

marking spot. I started readin this morning, but only managed the foreword! Looking forward to getting stuck in though

Niecie · 04/05/2011 11:35

Has the new book got anything extra in it that the old one didn't have apart from the DVD, that is?

Still ploughing my way through the book. I have read the chapters on the 4 rules though so I should make a start properly. Sort of did this morning by getting on and having breakfast which I don't really bother with until I am ravenous.

My other question was do you all listen to the CD? Do you have to? One of the reason's I resisted the call from Solo to come over to this thread from our old weight loss one was that I don't like the CD - PM's voice really annoys me. Blush

Please tell me some of you don't bother with it!!

ppeatfruit · 04/05/2011 11:52

I don't think it's nec. niecle you just choose the bits you like. I break the rule to eat exactly what you want 'cos for my health I follow the blood type way of eating i have still lost 2 stone!...

ppeatfruit · 04/05/2011 11:55

...allthough I've been eating healthily for so long that i do actually WANT it!! apart from choc. at easter Blush

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 04/05/2011 12:26

I personally rely on the cD quite a lot, I need my brain reprogrammed as my attitude to food was shocking! I couldnt stick to the golden rules with willpower, I dont use any willpower with this method. I need my thought processes changed, so that I dont want to eat when Im not hungry.

Some have done it without the CD though, so it can definitely work without it! Just find what works for you :)

Good work HowToLookGoodGlaikit on starting the new thread and putting all the principles, tips and video links up front. Very useful even for an "old-timer" (of 9 weeks!) like me Grin.

BsshBossh · 04/05/2011 12:34

Niecie, I've only ever listened to the CD once as his voice irritated the sh*t out of me. Have lost weight just following the golden four rules.

Niecie · 04/05/2011 12:52

Phew, thats good to hear I am not alone, BshBosch. I thought I was a weirdo for not finding it all deeply relaxing and lovely.

As I said somewhere I have had the book for 5 years, I like the rules - they should work if I can stick to them - but I put it back on the book shelf because of the CD which is a shame. 5 yrs when I could have been slim and lovely instead of fat and not lovely.Sad

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 04/05/2011 13:29

Glaikit - I am the same, need to totally rework my relationship with food.

Today is going well, getting 6 hours unbroken sleep last night may have something to do with it.....

MuffinsMummy · 04/05/2011 13:30

I listen to the CD when I am going to bed and fall asleep before its even got to the counting backwards part.

I am at work and as it is somebodies birthday they have very kindly put a BIG pile of doughnuts and cookies right next to my desk! As I am eating my lunch and getting fuller I am not wanting to eat them as much so something must be working!

For the second rule does everybody else eat with no distractions? Thats the bit I am finding hardest. I am taking my time to eat my food but either have to eat whilst working, have a 2 year old trying to sit on my lap, have to feed DD3 or have someone talking to me!

When I made the DCs bananas and custard last night for the pudding but didnt eat mins straight away as I wasnt hungry. I felt hungry after putting the DC to bed but only eat half. Before I would have eaten a pint of custard in one go Blush

I have just read this back and I am just rambling so will get back to writing up my reflective journals for college!

MintCakeMavis · 04/05/2011 13:59

Hi can I join in the fun please :)

It's inspiring reading your experiences. I'm bored ofbeing a size 16, that's what I've been my whole life. But, I've decided that's not a good enough reason to stay this size.

Great intro btw. I'll report back soon!

SoloIsApparentlyACougar · 04/05/2011 14:29

Hello, hello!!! great new thread Grin

Course you can MintCakeMavis (love the name!).

Do you lot know something about my neighbours that I don't?! I've got a nut job next door, but afaik, the others are normal(ish)! It was Nora's neighbour that passed away not mine.

I went to a stretch and tone class this morning and I'm shattered. She was dishing out Zumba class leaflets, but the ME wont let me do that and nor will the cost...will continue with the freebie when I can. :)

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 04/05/2011 14:36

Muffins - yes I have the same problem. Either I'm feeding DS2 or trying to get DS1 to eat his meal (or both!), or jiggling DS2 on a hip while I'm eating. Not easy!

Hello MintCake :)

JuicyOlive · 04/05/2011 14:39

Marking space for when I have time to post properly later.

Welcome MintCakeMavis - yet another with a foodie name - it must be significant. (Speaking of which, has anyone seen whomovedmychocolate around recently).

Sorry about your neighbour too Nora.

Neicie - I find the CDs in the 4 box set much less annoying as PM doesn't have the strange mid Atlantic twang so much. He's still slightly odd but I've usually dropped off before it gets too annoying.

ObiWanKenobi · 04/05/2011 14:41

Hi everyone. I've been away for a while - completely sabotaged my efforts and I have no idea why. I know this works - I used it before I was pregnant and it worked brilliantly. So why, after just over a week, I let Easter get in the way and then didn't bother trying to get back on track I don't know. I think I'm back in the zone now though. Have just listened to the CD and am eating well today. Shouldn't have let it get to the stage where I ate so much junk one day I felt really ill (went to my sister's and ate the desert I brought and the one she made, then on the way home - while stuck in an unending traffic jam on the M1 with DD crying in the back - I ate an entire BIG Easter egg sister had given me). Putting that behind me now and am back here.

Have read all the back posts and WOW - you have all been really busy and doing great! Hello to everyone I haven't 'met' before. Congratulations on all the success to everyone.

Loving the new thread - well done Glaikit. Great video. I've decided to up my Pauling and get the CD set. One question - does anyone have the journal and iPhone app? If yes, which is more useful?

And one last word on this post - agree about Paul's annoying voice. What I don't understand is how he got that voice given that he grew up in the same part of North London as I did!

SoloIsApparentlyACougar · 04/05/2011 14:47

Hi Obi :) PM lives in the USA, so I expect he's got it from being there...I like his voice, but don't listen much atm.
Don't panic about the overeat either...you are back now so let's go!!!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 04/05/2011 14:56

I do think the other CDs are better than the freebie one - I find the more trancey one the best, and his voice isnt as annoying.

Welcome MintCakeMavis :)

Sorry Solo, I did totally mean Nora Blush

I have the 90 day Journal, which I got for about £3 on ebay, and that is useful for keeping you mindfull of everything. I dontt hink the iphone app adds anything extra other than the MP3 and ebook, but I dont have it so might be wrong.

Oh dear, feeling stuffed. I need a kick up the backside and get back to basics. These two long weekends have not been very good for my recent good eating habits. I've neither binged nor eaten anywhere near what I used to but I definitely need to feel the "hunger" more before I put food into my mouth. I'm not looking forward to this Saturday's weigh in. I need to get back to basics now. I'll start by re-reading the book.
