Ate lunch out at this new American diner in Soho (Spuntino) and did very well. They give a mug of complimentary chilli popcorn which I ate only a few just for a taste as I knew I wanted to eat my main. They serve sliders - those very small, 2 or 3-bite burgers in buns - and normally I'd have three to myself but only managed one, plus a handful of fries and a big dollop of cheesy grits. Then DH and I shared a brown sugar cheesecake but I ate a third. I am very very proud of myself that I was able to really listen to my stomach and eat enough to enjoy it all but leave the counter not even full but nicely satisfied. It's an excellent place to eat with great service and perfect portions (!) if you're ever in London.

Feeling very good Grin.

Grilled tuna steak, watercress salad with oranges and fresh cherries for dinner tonight. Can't wait.

BsshBossh · 21/05/2011 19:56

Oh, I forgot to say, Niecie, I had to get DH on board with my new way of eating because he cooks so much of our meals. He serves me and he's now aware of what portion sizes to put on my plate (he uses his fist to determine portion size and I go back to serve myself if I need more).

PositiveAttitude · 21/05/2011 19:59

PPeat, yes I live on an island, unfortunately not on my own Neicie.
I, too kept this to myself for the same reasons as you, although my cover was blown when DS and DD caught me "asleep" on the sofa with the CD playing. Hmm I have had a little ribbing, but not much. DH knows something is going on, but I have not told him what I am doing.

Welcome to the newbies Smile I have been doing this for just under 5 weeks and am loving the freedom to enjoy the food I love. Tonight DH has ordered a takeaway because I have been away all day. I will dish up a smaller portion and enjoy every mouthful. I will also enjoy a takeaway meal for the next 3 evenings probably, rather than it all being eaten in one go! Three meals for the price of 1!! Grin

franke · 21/05/2011 21:54

I didn't tell anyone what I was doing. I just got on with it and somehow managed to fudge mealtimes with not being hungry, will eat later etc. I didn't want the added pressure of starting something in a big fanfare (yet again) and it all coming to nothing (yet again).

The funny thing is that when dh finally mentioned it, he couched it in very negative terms - "this food restriction thing your doing, your not starving yourself are you?" I rather haughtily replied that it was not food restriction and I'm never hungry. But secretly felt quite pleased that he'd noticed Smile

franke · 21/05/2011 21:55

oh fgs "you're" and "you're"

neverputasockinatoaster · 21/05/2011 22:16

I have told my OH, he's very supportive indeed. He knows how unhappy I am with my size and he's seen me try slimming world, WW, herbal life etc etc etc. He's still getting used to it all I think!

Had a bit of a break through tonight I think....... We had steak and chips tonight and I ate slowly, knife and fork down between each mouthful, and didn't eat it all! OH had bought some rather nice looking brie and I had 2 crackers with a bit of brie and that was that. I even didn't finish my wine!!!

I have also had several conversations with myself when faced by food I didn't need. When preparing the kids tea i managed to sweep the left overs into the bin.....!!

Hurrah!

ppeatfruit · 22/05/2011 14:59

OOh welcome chocolatemacadamias (in plain choc. my FAVE food!!) This system takes time to get used to but IT IS WORTH IT!!!! You will falter i still do and i've been doing it for a year or so.

florencerusty · 22/05/2011 19:01

Well the cinema did involve a small tub of ben and jerrys! But today have not picked at all and am just so lacking in appetite - is it like this for everyone? DH made tea and I left at least 1/4 of it probably more because I was full - this is unheard of!

PositiveAttitude · 22/05/2011 19:15

A bit quiet on here today, isn't it? Hope everyone is out enjoying the sunshine.

Flo - thats it!! Your body doesnt need so much today if you had a little treat yesterday. You are listening to it and that is all you need to do! It feels good, doesnt it? Smile

I had my first packet of Walkers Prawn Cocktail crisps today since I started this. I used to love these and felt they were a bit of a weakness, so it would be better to abstain for a while So today i sat down when I was hungry and so looked forward to savouring every mouthful. I hated them!! Shock They were so salty, loaded with false flavour and just disgusting. I think that will probably be my last prawn cocktail crisp ever!! I could never have imagined saying that a month ago!! I enjoyed my melon slice sooooooooo much more!! What has happened to me??? I cant believe it., but I love it. Grin

Just done my walk, too. Quickest time yet and feeling really good. Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 22/05/2011 19:34

I made a lovely roast dinner and had lots of vegetables and just 2 roasties. I ate every thing on my plate, consciously, but realised i probably had 3 mouthfuls too much. Still positive though.

SilveryMoon · 22/05/2011 19:44

Evening ladies.
Wow PA it's scary isn't it? Not liking your favourite foods anymore.
I ate some more chocolate last night (I was hungry, but still ate a bit too much) and again, I was awake most of the night feeling a bit ill, so maybe I need to steer clear of that now.
A few weeks ago I couldn't get to sleep without chocolate.
Fab well done on your roast dinner, each step is a big one.

I've done ok today, cuppa for breakfast, 4 southern fried chicken strips for lunch followed by a chocolate mousse, and now a few chips for dinner.

knaveofhearts · 22/05/2011 19:56

Evenin' all.

I have been enjoying the return of my babies! I am now enjoying them being tucked up in bed! Grin

Some fantastic losses a little way up thread - well done everyone. I'm so proud of how we're all doing. And hello new peeps Smile

I noticed mint thought we were like the cool kids. Love it, I've never been cool before. I was looking at the students as I pass through the university on my way to work and some of them are just effortlessly cool and stylish. How do they do it? At 18 I was an insecure, styleless goth-grunge hybrid (see, I couldn't even commit to an outcrowd!) and I've never got any cooler. Just less bothered!

Silvery I have decided to go with tapping as someone suggested upthread. I'm not ready to say goodbye to chocolate yet...

SilveryMoon · 22/05/2011 19:58

knave I did think about tapping, but I don't want to do it all day!
I think I will go for something more permanent.

way2serious · 22/05/2011 20:14

I feel such a failure! I started the PM approach a few weeks ago and did lose some weight but fell off the wagon bigtime. I still need toose the weight and so am hoping to start again tomorrow and try harder!

SilveryMoon · 22/05/2011 20:21

way2serious try not to worry about it, we are all in the same boat, we all have weight to lose (I would lkike to lose 4 stone), and we all mess up and eat too much, but hey, we will all get there.
Don't be too hard on yourself. You are not a failure, you are trying to change your approach and attitude to food, it will not happen overnight.
It might take months or longer, but each tiny step is a massive breakthrough.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 22/05/2011 21:07

This weekend has been somewhat disastrous, but I don't have all the horrid guilt etc that I have had in the past.
Fresh start tomorrow :)

way2serious · 22/05/2011 21:16

Thanks Silverymoon. I am going to do this and just need to get sorted!

SoloIsAHotCougar · 22/05/2011 21:39

Hello everyone! I'm feeling very ill today :( flu ish and I've have indigestion since this morning before I'd eaten anything; got it back at just after 3pm and it stayed for 5+ hours! I took loads of Gaviscon and drank bitter lemon, jiggled around and had Mum rubbing my back!
I ate very little of my Sunday roast and finally, finally Mum served up a decently smallish meal...I left 2/3rds of it and then a bit later ate a little more, but easily only half my meal. I really didn't feel like I was missing out today which was fabulous! Grin, but then the pain...

Hello new Pauler's and welcome to our successful eating thread :)

SoloIsAHotCougar · 22/05/2011 21:41

Oooh! how about the next thread being called Paul McKenna's Successful Eating Thread (part 5) ?! any thoughts?

SilveryMoon · 22/05/2011 21:46

Sounds good solo Grin

SoloIsAHotCougar · 22/05/2011 21:54

Excellent! anyone else? will wait until we get closer to the max (or should we leave a little?!!!) Grin

SilveryMoon · 22/05/2011 22:00

Well, either way, we'll prob need a new thread tomorrow/tuesday at latest Wink

Joltek · 22/05/2011 22:02

SoloIsAHotCougar Is this kind of indigestion normal for you? I only ask because it sounds a lot like the attacks I had when I had gallstones. I was convinced it must be just awful indigestion for ages and downed tons of yucky super strong gaviscon with no effect. Losing weight can kick this off which is why I thought I would just mention it you in case.

Bry

SoloIsAHotCougar · 22/05/2011 22:09

Oh! Shock No, I don't usually get indigestion Joltek. I suppose I've had it a dozen times in my entire 47 years and a weeks worth of those I can tag to a medication that doesn't agree with me (another pain killer actually) and lots of fresh orange juice. I once got it whilst Dd was having one of her health checks as a baby and the GP and MW were a bit Hmm, but said nothing!
Do you think I should see the doctor?

SoloIsAHotCougar · 22/05/2011 22:11

I took a new pain killer yesterday but it made me feel lousy, so I haven't had any more and wont again either.
