I've woken up feeling like I have lost weight. It's nice. And because I don't have any scales, I can't weigh myself and ruin that feeling Grin

Thanks for the hug Olive - I am actually having a great time at the moment. it's just that I keep having to do the good samaritan act.

V V tired today after sitting in hospital chugging diet coke. I don't normally drink caffiene and I was awake til 1am Hmm And then DS2 woke me up at 6.15am. I feel remarkably ok, though. had yummy PB&J on toast and cuppa and glass of orange juice for breakfast.

whomovedmychocolate · 06/05/2011 08:55

Onesandwichshort (and Olive and Nora - aren't you lot lovely? :) ) - we are not moving yet but I have a....what's the techinical term, oh yes helluvalottashit to pack up and declutter before we do move. We got a full price offer five days into marketing the place (hurrah) but he needs to sell to move (boo). Which to be fair he seems to be doing quite quickly (he has two houses to sell and has sold one - but again their buyers need to sell (double boo).) And we have found a house but I don't know if we'll get it as it's gone to best offers and you never know really - even if you are the highest bidder there may be someone with a more favourable offer (i.e. they are sat there with the cash in their hands and want to move next week).

Also everything has gone a bit titsup regarding school. DD who has a speech delay has not been given any of our preferences and has instead been offered a church school (we are secularists) with an open plan lower school - so they have 3-6 year olds running round screaming all day - not great when people don't understand you in even quiet environments. And DD is mega-studious (ie she does one hour a day of sitting down doing maths or English). So we don't know what to do. If we move it won't be an issue, but it doesn't look likely we will move before September now so I'm thinking about home-educating her till we do, rather than send her somewhere where she will withdraw socially because no-one understands her (makes me cry just thinking about it :( ) She's getting some help from the speech therapist though, it'll come in time. :)

Regarding negative people on the thread - do you know, I don't know anyone who has lost weight with PM who has not learned to deal effectively with the nersayers. 'Oh that will never work' etc. is v common. If you took yourself back a year and said to yourself 'you can become a normal weight if you eat slowly, only when hungry and eat what you really want' what would have been your response? Wink

You'd have patted them on the head, said 'yes dear' and then thought quietly well that's never going to work.

I'm sure for every person saying something unhelpful there are ten people reading quietly thinking 'this won't work for me of course, but perhaps there is something in it because these people seem to be doing it successfully' :)

SilveryMoon · 06/05/2011 09:06

whomovedmychocolate Hope you can move before september. Can't imagine the open-plan school will be very enjoyable for your dd.

And where, yes, I have been very skeptical about PM and his methods for weight loss, giving up smoking, changing your life in a week etc etc, I would never put that view onto someone(s) who were giving it and go. Ok, maybe, if they asked my opinion, but I wouldn't go out of my way to tell someone who was doing it that I thought it was a con. There's just no need.

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2011 09:39

True silvery also I HAVE NOT SPENT ONE PENNY TO DO P.M. i wonder if that's the case for the W.W.s Cambridgers,S.W.s and the rest of the eat shit to loose weight world. He doesn't charge for his website either.

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2011 09:49

Apologies to OBI you mentioned my DD not silvery! It's fascinating learning about yr childhoods sad too. But this IS a positive site! congrats and nice to hear from you WMMC!

PositiveAttitude · 06/05/2011 11:16

Hi jack alert - Whomoved just read your post about your DD. My DD3 had severe speech delay, is now 16 and doing fine. If you wanted to chat off board, feel free to PM me. I know how frustrating it can be, also went through the home edding bit just so that she wasn't made to feel "thick" or "stupid" for a while. Sad

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 06/05/2011 13:32

I ordered a smaller pair of trousers last week, they arrived today. I was not expecting to be in them just yet but they were on offer, so I got them. Well I decided to try them on to see how far I had to go - and I can do them up!! They give me a muffin top at the moment, but another inch off my middle and I will be there :):)

Now I want to weigh myself to see how much I've lost! I may take a peak at the scales in the morning even though I'm not meant to for another 5 days or so.

TheOriginalFAB · 06/05/2011 13:46

How often are you all weighing yourselves? I weighed myself this morning just for interest but are the same weight.

I had a banana and a pear for breakfast and 2 small jacket potatoes with tuna and mayonnaise for lunch. I have bought a M&S feel fuller longer meal for dinner.

whomovedmychocolate · 06/05/2011 14:10

Thanks PositiveAttitude, hers is very mild but we don't know yet whether she has full hearing or not. My instincts say she has glue ear and that's slowing her speech development. Her vocabulary is that of a seven year old though Shock But yes I might PM you if we do decide to home ed. Thanks! :)

Well got some bad news today in that the house we have bid on (it went to best offers) has been sold to someone else :( So we have no house to buy and are back to square one. But we have another viewing booked for Tuesday from someone whose house is already under offer so hopefully we can create a bidding war, sell quickly and then find somewhere. Ce la vie.

TheOriginalFAB · 06/05/2011 14:24

I was thinking of joining the PM on line club. Does any one know if it is free and worth having?

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2011 14:54

No Theoriginal I'll mark my place it sounds interesting also this is a 'slimming food' free thread! WMMC House buying etc. is hell isn't it? The french system makes more sense IMO!

Niecie · 06/05/2011 15:58

Well done to the losers as well. You are very inspirational for us newbies. Well me anyway. There is hope for me yet!

I wanted to ask, which one of the 4 rules do people find hardest?

I am finding it really hard to chew thing 20 times. Some things just don't last that long! 44 years of not thinking about the number of times I have to chew is hard to undo. I can do eat what you want (I like that one best Smile), eat when you are hungry and stop when satisfied which are doable although I seem to fail at least once a day. Chewing and being conscious are hard though. Does it ever become second nature?

My little rant at Pointydog yesterday was quite useful in focusing the mind too. It reminded me why I am doing this rather than going to WW or SW. I keep thinking of my mother who lost 4st with WW last year and has stayed on target a while but seems very slowly to be putting weight on again (she says - it doesn't show). Then I think of her cupboard full of WW products and wonder how Pointy can have a go at us when we are avoiding all that shit! PM seems a much healthier way of losing weigh, both mentally and physically (not articfical sweetners etc etc). Not that I would say that to my mother of course because whatever way you do it losing 4 stone is a good thing but it has to be permanent doesn't it?

QueenStromba · 06/05/2011 16:01

The stone took me 23 days positiveattitide, only the last week and 5 pounds were pauling though. I was so close to the stone mark that I couldn't stop weighing myself and then today I had to weigh myself to see if I could call myself 13 stone something (I can :) ). I'm going to try to leave it a week until I weigh again but I think I need to do it - I've always founf the scales more of a motivater than a depresser and it's always when I stop weighing that I pile on the weight.

TheOriginalFAB · 06/05/2011 16:06

A problem that DH and I have is we are used to having to eat our dinner so quickly as we usually had to go and sort out a baby who needed a breast feed or a nappy change or had got in a pickle in the cot. It is ridiculous really as my youngest is now 5.

QueenStromba · 06/05/2011 16:21

I've only been doing this for a week Niecie and eating slowly is already becoming a habit. For things that don't need chewing I suggest eating them in the same forkful as some thing that does e.g. baked beans and fried mushrooms work as a combo, or have your mash with a bit of meat or whatever. For things like soup I count to 40 between spoonfuls.I don't think I'm havig much problem with any of the rules really other than eat what you want and eat when you're hungry sometimes being incompatible, when that happens I tend to eat something small and sortout the thing I want to eat if I can.

SilveryMoon · 06/05/2011 17:03

Well done Ali That's great Smile

I'm finding the 'eat when you are hungry' one tricky becaue I don't know when I'm hungry and the top when you are staisfied because I don't recognise that feeling either.

Have done really well today, have not snacked at all, so so far have had 1 slice of toast, a cheese toastie, 2 glasses of orange juice, a can of pepsi and a few glasses of water.
I'm a bit hungry now so am doing fish and chips for me along with the ds's dinner.

I have a bottle of wine for tonight. That's still ok isn't it? Do I have to stop before I'm tipsy Wink

QueenStromba · 06/05/2011 17:22

I've been applying themrules to my alcohol intake so taking slightly smaller sips and waitimg a bit longer between sips. I've also been having vodka, soda and lime juice instead of every second beer or so.

PositiveAttitude · 06/05/2011 17:22

Blimey Queen, that's quick! Shock

I agree about the counting chews rule. I really have to think about it, but generally remember after the first 4 or 5 mouthfuls have disappeared. Blush with things that dont need the 20 chews I have just chewed still, sort of imagining the taste, even after swallowing, if that makes sense. Blush

I have done quite well today and have a quick tea tonight of salmon fishcakes and boiled potatoes with mange toute. I have also made some jelly too.

I slipped on some jeans this afternoon which I havent been able to do up for many months and they went on and did up! A little too tight to be able to wear them comfortably yet, but it wont be long!

Its all really positive on here, which is brilliant. Well done everyone.
Sorry about the house, Whomoved, I am sure you will end up with something better in the end. DD3 didnt speak until she was 7, then it was just vowel sounds, which wasnt too easy for others to understand. She had oral and verbal dyspraxia, but is now 16, could chat for England and is fine. She still gets a little muddled with sounds at times, but has learnt to laugh at herself and just laughs it off.

QueenStromba · 06/05/2011 17:25

PS: Please excuse my poor typing, I'm on my phone.

TheOriginalFAB · 06/05/2011 18:38

Is it really just a case of eat when hungry, take your time and stop when full? Will I lose weight if I do that along with drinking more water?

I used to eat when bored, sad, upset, stressed. Keep going until all gone. Rush meals as normally so hungry.

I really need to lose weight and feel like crying tbh. I weigh more now than when my baby was 2 months old and breast fed.

Tommy · 06/05/2011 18:40

I have completely fallen off the wagon in the last couple of weeks so will be watching with interest

SilveryMoon · 06/05/2011 18:49

FAB I can completely see how i this will stop us gaining more weight, but are we supposed to be exercising too to get rid of the weight we are already carrying.

I have a pack of chocolate biscuits in the cupboard. Can I have one later? I mean, I'm not hungry, but I want one or is that no? Just one or 2 not the whole pack or anything. What do you think?

TheOriginalFAB · 06/05/2011 19:10

I wanted a snicker last night. I wasn't hungry. I thought about it for ages and tbh expected to give in eventually. I was really pleased this morning I didn't give in.

Tell yourself when you feel properly hungry you will have one biscuit and enjoy it. Chances are you might forget or the moment will pass. If not, enjoy the biscuit. Keep up water intake too.

SilveryMoon · 06/05/2011 19:17

Thanks FAB Will do.

shrinkingnora · 06/05/2011 19:23

I am really, really angry (about a thing that happened this afternoon). And I want to eat angrily. And DH said I've had a thought about our supper, I'll tell you when the DCs are in bed. Which probably means a takeaway. And I do not want a takeaway. I want.....I don't know. I want to not be angry, though and no food is going to change that. Unless my friend eats some humble pie Wink

On the upside (yes, my friends call me bipolar bear) I cycled to work every day this week, even though I really wanted to drive several times Grin Proud of myself and already feeling much fitter and muscles feel better. Sweated buckets, mind Grin

WMMC - your daughter will always have the huge advantage of having you as a parent. The house thing will work out. One door closes and all that. Must mean that there is house perfection waiting around the corner!
