New Thread for Lo Carbers/non-carbers, etc

Old lo-carb thread was 'too big' and wouldn't let me post this. It's for a almond meal pancake - I find one is really filling (I have it with total yoghurt and blueberries) and leave the mix in the fridge to have another next day.

Ingredients:
?1 cup almond flour
?2 eggs
?1/4 cup water (for puffier pancakes, you can use sparkling water)
?2 T oil
?1/4 teaspoon salt
?1 T sweetener
Preparation:
Mix ingredients together and cook as you would other pancakes. I like to use a nonstick pan with a little oil. The only real difference is that they won't "bubble" on top the same way as regular pancakes. Flip them when the underside is brown.

Yield: Six 4-inch pancakes

Nutritional Information: Each pancake has 1 gram effective carbohydrate, plus 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 155 calories.

I'm eating like a carnivorous sparrow atm! No appetite and I don't much fancy anything I am allowed to eat. I should be shedding weight like water of a shaking dog! But I AM NOT! God this frustrates me sometimes.

Oh Sal, don't feel bad. I think if you cheat you should at least look back and say, "well, I enjoyed those crisps, they were bloody lovely".

Custy - it's all or nothing with you!! You seem to be surviving on two celeriac chips a day one minute, then larging it with lager and pancakes the next.

It's the weekend, just got back from babysitting and attacked a bottle of limoncello that was lurking in the freezer (loaded with sugar AND alcohol). Off to see a couple of old mates tomorrow who are cooking Sunday lunch, so I'm expecting a blowout carb-fest with roast potatoes, the work, and I don't CARE. DH will be driving, so maybe some wine will be involved too.

BEDTIME!

FreeButtonBee · 06/03/2011 12:09

Hi all. Oops. Bit hungover today.

Was pretty good yesterday food wise. poached egg, smoked salmon, parma ham, tomato and cheese for brunch. Snack of precooked chicken and small bit of hummus.

Was out for dinner and had tiny piece of bread, then tempura crab and lovely steak with chimichurri sauce. Had about 5 big chips. But they were worth it - proper proper chips.

Also had a VAT of red wine. Which necessitated some coke this morning.

Half a pound on this morning but aiming to be good for the rest of the day. Breakfast(!) will eventually be bacon and might try those almond pancakes.

Will have a snack-y late lunch of chicken and salad-y stuff and then having roasted pork belly for dinner. Will have lots of veg and do some celeriac roasties as well, inspired by ilove.

Also going to do some gardening so that will be good exercise.

Have a good day all

Another lb gone. Hurrah! Am sleeping really well now so wondering if that does have an effect. 13 lb in total.

I took the DC swimming and was ravenous afterwards so had lunch - followed up by some nuts and dark chocolate Hmm

Timbachick · 06/03/2011 17:01

Well done Orm. That's another lb in the right direction .

CointreauVersial · 06/03/2011 21:57

Feeling like a big bloated whale after my predictably huge lunch out. I resorted to binge-eating roasties out of the dish with my fingers in the end.

Dinner this evening was an indigestion tablet Grin.

Update from me. 8 weeks in now and have lost 8 kilos (nearly 18 lbs) was getting really fed up as had a 4 week stall but suddenly in the last two weeks hubby and I have both just dropped about 2 kilos each. Feeling really good, clothes are getting too loose but need another 8 or so lbs before getting into a 14 I think.

Dinner today was king prawn stir fry, very very yummy :)

FreeButtonBee · 07/03/2011 09:33

Bah; put on again this morning. That'll be the booze. Also a bit constipated so had three prunes with my morning yoghurt.

But looking at that stats, the trend is still fairly encouraging. Hoping to see 10 4 by the end of the week. Even if it just flashes up on Friday morning, that'll do me! I have only seen that number once in my freaky 2 day period of losing 7 lbs only to put it all back on again the next day for no discernible reason!

So aim is to be good this week. Only one tricky day this week, which is Wednesday as I have a business lunch and then work drinks in the evening.

Still a bit full of the cold as well so various spoonfuls of cough medicine and throat sweets probably haven't helped.

Spam - wow, really well done. That's a fabulous loss in 8 weeks.

FreeButtonBee · 07/03/2011 13:36

got my period this afternoon so that will also account for some of the increase.

I have been going to acupuncture for the past 3 months and my periods seem to be getting a bit more regular. As in they are not 40-60 days apart. This month, it's an almost respectable 36!

Hi Everyone,

I didn't do very well during the weekend, I had pizza on Friday and had a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich, plus I finished half a packet of almond biscuits, not good.

But I still managed to lose weight. I was 64.1kg and now I'm 62.5kg!

So, I'm still losing which is good.

SPAM - your doing great, well done!

Just cooked a very nice dinner - Spanish Eggs and Prawns.

Sizzle some prawns in a frying pan with olive oil and a couple of cloves of garlic, chopped.

Put in a few handfuls of spinach leaves, and toss until wilted.

Whisk together eggs (I used 5 between the two of us) with half a teaspoon of paprika, salt and pepper. Add the eggs to the pan and cook through until almost done. Sprinkle with chopped coriander to serve.

Though I say it myself it was delish!

FreeButtonBee · 07/03/2011 20:33

Tired tonight. Pmt-ish. Early to bed for me tonight. Poor old dh is still in work.

Dinner was left over slices of pork belly fried with some left over chicken and served over salad with coleslaw and a couple of slices of cheese. Was quite nice but a bit salty. So on the water now.

Also had many a couple of squares of dark choc.

We're all a bit flat at the moment aren't we. Looking forward to shrove tuesday tomorrow?! I will certainly be partaking!!

FellatioNelson · 07/03/2011 20:35

I have just had an unoriginal but but lovely cheese omelette with spinach. I had a disastrous weekend due to poor planning ahead on my part, and ruined my ketosis on Saturday night at a party where I was forced to nibble on non-low carb food and drink non-diet mixers because it was all that was available and I was driving. Sad I swapped to tap water after a bit, but not soon enough to save myself, so now I'm doing all the hard work from scratch again. Angry

CointreauVersial · 07/03/2011 20:52

Fellatio - it won't take you long to get back to ketosis, surely?

I say enjoy the parties (assuming they don't happen every day!).

So. I am realising a few things at the moment.

  • I have no alternative but to eat this way. My life is SO MUCH better when I am eating like this; I am sane, I have energy, I am not depressed and snappy, we can do constructive things with the kids rather than just dragging through the day. My house is even tidy.

  • My weight loss has stalled because I am 'blurring the edges' of what I am allowed and basically eating like I used to do on maintenance. If I want to lose weight I need to stick to the plan as written like glue (Carb Addicts diet).

Lent is starting tomorrow. There are 6 weeks in Lent and there are 6 things I could do to tighten up. I am going to introduce one a week and hopefully by Easter will be losing again. I'm going to put them in order of easiness to introduce (I am a wuss and if I make things too hard will fall off plan). If I start losing consistently before I get to number 6 I might let myself skip that one.

Wk 1. Stop snacking on peanuts outside my reward meal.
Wk 2. Stop drinking more than one cup of coffee with cream a day.
Wk 3. Drink 8 glasses of water a day.
Wk 4. Start my reward meal with 2 cups salad or 1 cup low-carb veg.
Wk 5. Start balancing my reward meal more strictly.
Wk 6. (this is not part of the plan as written but may be a tweak I need to lose weight): keep chocolate and sweet things to weekends only.

Today is pancake day so reward meal will be far from balanced. Lenten austerity of no peanuts begins tomorrow. Grin

Hi I have just started lo-carbing after picking up the Atkins book in a charity shop for 50p and thinking 'why not give it a whirl?' (Which it tells you not to do in one of the early chapters Grin. I have that stubborn last half-stone to lose after completing child-bearing 6 years ago, so just planning to do it for about 10 days. Have completely given up alcohol at the moment in solidarity with my recovering alcoholic (of 5 days) dh, so it seems like good timing.
I have enjoyed soya pancakes, but will try the almond mix too, sliced aubergine battered with the soya batter, a houmous-like dip made with soya beans instead of chick peas, (having on celery, cucumber, or the Atkins crispbread). Have been exercising loads as well.

halfcaffodils · 08/03/2011 10:14

Have been enjoying fish (a whole medium-sized mackerel roast-a-bagged with butter, salt, pepper and lemon juice) with some spinach. Nobody else likes either of those things in my family.
