New Thread for Lo Carbers/non-carbers, etc

WhereamI · 07/02/2011 16:31

Old lo-carb thread was 'too big' and wouldn't let me post this. It's for a almond meal pancake - I find one is really filling (I have it with total yoghurt and blueberries) and leave the mix in the fridge to have another next day.

Ingredients:
?1 cup almond flour
?2 eggs
?1/4 cup water (for puffier pancakes, you can use sparkling water)
?2 T oil
?1/4 teaspoon salt
?1 T sweetener
Preparation:
Mix ingredients together and cook as you would other pancakes. I like to use a nonstick pan with a little oil. The only real difference is that they won't "bubble" on top the same way as regular pancakes. Flip them when the underside is brown.

Yield: Six 4-inch pancakes

Nutritional Information: Each pancake has 1 gram effective carbohydrate, plus 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 155 calories.

I am always Confused at people saying LC makes them bound up. It always has the opposite effect on me - in a good way. I find it's a diet of wheat and sugar that gives me constipation.

CountessVonKnackerstein · 26/02/2011 17:25

....wonders what to eat tonight at the local Italian...

FellatioNelson · 26/02/2011 17:28

Going out for a curry. Will probably have tandoori chicken and some kind of extra spicy saag or brinjal bhajee type thing. Wish me fortitude in the face of the puppadom tray please.

Tortington · 26/02/2011 17:29

last night i ate 2 cherry and almond danish
full pkt pringles - natch-
2 packets of nut crackers - nuts with a cracker coating yum. half a larg bag of M&Ms

3.5 ;bs up this am Grin

i have a hangover from hell - and could have just eaten fresh white bread from the packet - but have stayed on celeriac chips and will have quesedillas for tea/supper

ilove · 26/02/2011 17:31

I started low/no carb last Sunday and have done quite well. I'm wheat intolerant too so struggle with replacements of stuff.

I've enjoyed this week, eaten a lot of meat/fish/eggs/salad/veg/chicken/bacon, and have been reading the low carbers thread on here but am a bit confused.

I'm not doing any particular diet, have tried everything under the sun and I always seem to gravitate back to SW, which is what I have based this week on.

But you have butter/mayo/cheese/parmesan etc? and oil? How does all that fit in with your weight loss?

Are you eating unlimited amounts of carb-free/low carb foods?

Thankyou!

Tortington · 26/02/2011 17:37

here is my blog it has an introduction that might help with your post ilove - also some recipes. i only include what i have cooked on the blog, there are many more recipes on this thread.

basically you can eat full fat oils and fats on lc - i give myself a carb count to stick to

mine is 20-25 a day

FellatioNelson · 26/02/2011 17:39

I hate those days custy. What annoys me most about them is when I have that caving in feeling from the moment I wake up, but I fight it with 9 eggs and a block of lard, then a tub of macadamias, then a pot of double cream.

Then, I empty the biscuit tin followed by a huge pizza followed by a whole tub of Haagan Daz. I'm furious by then. I should have just given in to the devil the first time, and saved myself 9000 calories of high fat, low carb stuff. Harrumph.Confused

(disclaimer: I may be slightly exaggerating the amounts of food here, before anyone point out that it's no wonder I need to diet.)

Tortington · 26/02/2011 17:45

pmsl i know what you mean - i have done exactly the same thing, then given up about 7pm and then hate myself for it in teh morning

ilove · 26/02/2011 17:50

No fruit?!?

Tortington · 26/02/2011 18:05

nope, some 'slatckins' atkins but slacker - people on this thread eat small amts of fruit

but if you think about it - it's full of natural sugar - so the whole way that your body processes food intake and how low carbng works and how you get into ketosis
only works after processing the sugar for energy - so if your loaded on sugar the body processes the sugar for energy first and diesn't get to the fat reserves - meaning you don't lose weight-

CointreauVersial · 26/02/2011 18:40

Evening all.

Hi Fellatio - yes, you have to read through all 20 pages of this thread and the whole of the last thread to get at our tasty recipes. Grin Get to it!!

(Actually, there have been a few irritating....."now, where was that bloody pancake recipe?"....moments. I'm now nerdily cutting and pasting into a Word doc whenever I spot something interesting).

Roast chicken in the oven - just off to whip up a little celeriac dauphinoise to go with it.

Well can report a partial success with my curry last night. I did succumb to 3/4s of a puppadom, but no mango chutney, only onions and yoghurt, and I didn't have one mouthful of rice or naan,

systemsaddict · 27/02/2011 09:51

fantastic meal last night! Pork escalopes, roast butternut squash and celeriac gratin. My very picky eater son ate his whole portion of the gratin and asked when he could have a whole celeriac! Dead easy to cook, just shoving stuff in the oven mainly then flash-frying the pork, and it was a proper gourmet treat. Very nice.

ilove · 27/02/2011 11:48

I've lost 13lb in my first week. Obviously it'll be mainly water, but I am pleased.

Tortington · 27/02/2011 13:15

13????????????

ilove · 27/02/2011 13:23

yes Blush

Tortington · 27/02/2011 13:30

bloody nora,

how much are you looking to lose in total?

ilove · 27/02/2011 13:32

Ah well that's the thing. I need to lose about 5-6 stones in total

frazzledblob · 27/02/2011 14:19

OMG 13lb is fantastic! Envy

stick with the low carbing and you will find you do not need to eat unlimited food as per SW as your appetite reduces significantly. I spent years on SW and used to eat huge amounts of 'free' food - no wonder I was so addicted to carbs.

That gratin sounds lovely Systemsaddict.

todays meals:
Brunch - chocolate cake Blush well it is that time of the month and DH did'nt like the taste of the soya flour.

Can we have a recipe thread? (lazy mare)

FellatioNelson · 27/02/2011 16:11

So far today I have eaten 3 rashers of bacon, and scotch egg. Hmm It's not great on the vitamins front I'll grant you. I'm having skate in black butter with spinach for supper, and maybe some berries with splenda and cream if I feel the need. not sure if I'm in keto at the mo (doubt it) but I'm feeling ok.

OnEdge · 27/02/2011 16:50

I'm a bit new to this. Just reducing carbs as much as possible, will that work?

Replaced milk with soya milk
Using the dream low carb pasta
I have found that if i do end up eating carbs, especially bread that i feel really bloated for the next day. anyone else find this?

Haven't lost yet, on day 5 ish.

I do also use the low carb chocolate off an on line low carb web site.

Just had mushrooms fried in olive oil and bacon, brocolli and spinach with some low carb linguinie and stilton sauce made with cream. is this right ?

FellatioNelson · 27/02/2011 17:12

What is the low-carb linguien made from? TBH it might be low GI compared to ordinary pasta, but if you are after combining it with high fat/high protein for fast weight loss it's highly likely to scupper you. Best avoid all form of grain/cereal until you are maintaining.

FellatioNelson · 27/02/2011 17:14

Apart from the breadcrumbs that were on my scotch egg obviously. Blush But I'm highly experienced at this and I know when I can push my luck and when I can't, plus I ate it standing up so it doesn't count. Grin

Ormirian · 27/02/2011 17:42

Well done Ilove! Are you converted yet? Grin

Hmm.... i might have lost a lb Hmm if I am lucky. I got on the scales just now and was perhaps .5lb down on last week but hoping I lose a little more before official weigh-in tomorrow morning.

I am doing very well with the eating, not so well with the drinking Hmm And I haven't been running in a week. Not feeling energetic enough but I walked 2 miles to work 3 days last week and done quite a bit of walking around town etc this weekend. I will start running again as soon as I think I won't end up as a sobbing heap on the pavement.
