Right I need some moral support as I fancy giving this a go to lose weight. Anyone else fancy joining in?

AngryPixie · 04/08/2010 14:34

Yep I'll join in, I've downloaded an ap on my iphone called 'get running' which I think is a very similar thing.

When are you planning to do your first run?

desiretochange · 04/08/2010 14:52

What is couch to 5k?

Loujalou · 04/08/2010 15:02

If you Google it you will see. Sorry am on my phone so can't link it.

Basically its a way of learning to run 5k in 9 weeks

AngryPixie · 04/08/2010 15:06

That's the same as my app good - mine is based on 3 runs a week. When shall we start Loujalou?

TennisFan · 04/08/2010 15:17

I would like to join - have tried it before but only got to middle of week 2 and then got sidetracked and forgot to finish it off.

Actually i really want to do the whole thinkg to see if it really works - as I struggle with the run for 1 minute at the moment!

Loujalou · 04/08/2010 15:20

Was going to start on Friday. Am out tonight and gymming tomorrow. Have downloaded android app.

OP posts:
TennisFan · 04/08/2010 15:27

I could try to start again on Friday too

AngryPixie · 04/08/2010 15:30

Friday not good for me, but I'll try and do my first tomorrow (thursday) to kick us off.

Loujalou · 04/08/2010 18:59

Right I am up for it.... Think I need some more sports bras.....

OP posts:
wohmum · 05/08/2010 00:00

Hi ladies

There's an active couch to 5k thread on the exercise board if you want some inspiration from those a few weeks ahead.
Good luck, I couldn't run for 1 min 5 weeks ago but have just completed week- with a 20 min run, so it really does work.

sapphireblue · 05/08/2010 14:56

I'm liking the look of that in theory although am a little concerned that I'm not exactly built for running (size 20 with G cup bf boobies!) Do you recon I could do it? Would obviously have to invest in a sports bra!

AngryPixie · 05/08/2010 15:02

YES you can Sapphierblue, it starts gently with 1 min running then walking. Running does not have to be fast.

Yes also to quality sports bra and decent trainers.

Welcome on board

Loujalou · 05/08/2010 15:46

I have 32GG boobies so if I can give it a go (today) anyone can.

I've just finished it and managed to run the 5km Race for Life last weekend in 29:15m. When I started (1 June) I struggled to run for 60 seconds but can now do 30 mins. Very slowly but without stopping. Running an 8km race in October which is my next aim.

Yes to decent trainers (try and go to a Run shop to get fitted) and get a decent sports bra (Debenhams will fit them for you).

It's great - go for it!!

AddictedtoCrunchies · 05/08/2010 16:20

Oh and I've gone from wearing a tight size 18 trousers to a comfortable 16 as well!!

Loujalou · 05/08/2010 17:49

Right I did the first one. Now am going to load up my ipod with the podcasts as some music might help!

OP posts:
Loujalou · 05/08/2010 17:51

Pats self on the back. I know there is another "proper" thread but might keep on this one too.

BTW to begin with 1 minute running was ok but suffered at the end!

AngryPixie · 05/08/2010 18:50

Well done, I'm going out in about an hour, yes please keep this thread, I'm more at home in a weeny one

AngryPixie · 05/08/2010 21:28

I did it I had forgotten how much exercise lifts the spirits having been entirely slothful for at least a year.

I ran on a treadmill tonight, I wont usually, but wanted to get a feel for pace etc. I wasn't exactly sprinting; walking at 5.5km/h and running at 8.5km/h (I actually ran the last minute at 9.5 to see if I could but that tested pelvic floor to the max!)

Really enjoyed it and am planning to go again on Saturday morning.

Good luck Friday runners.

Loujalou · 06/08/2010 08:39

I really liked my run.

Right who is going for a run today? You know you can do it. I am totally against running normally but actually enjoyed it.... Oh dear what have I started??

OP posts:
AngryPixie · 07/08/2010 23:12

Could just be us LouJalou but I am going to try & do run no 2 tomorrow morning, to help justify the enormous sunday lunch I plan to eat Grin

Loujalou · 08/08/2010 10:46

Have done run no 2 and felt crap at the time but glad I did it!

Hows you Angry?

OP posts:
AngryPixie · 08/08/2010 17:33

Well done you x

I did run number 2 this morning, back at the gym with a 15min cycle to warm up.

Enjoyed it, although embarrassed by just how overweight/unfit I have allowed myself to become!!!

I think Tues eve or Wed morning is my next chance. I am really going to try for my 3 per week.

AngryPixie · 09/08/2010 07:39

I'm not feeling any effects from the runs yet, not even heavy legs, so thought I might squeeze in an extra one today.

Will keep you posted!

AngryPixie · 09/08/2010 07:40

PS How much weight do you want to lose? In an ideal world, I'd like to drop at least 1.5 stone
