Right I need some moral support as I fancy giving this a go to lose weight. Anyone else fancy joining in?

I still haven't begun week 3. Pleeeeease Help me get motivated again!

Loujalou · 26/08/2010 20:15

Do it pixie or I will be running alone and that's no fun at all.

FGM · 27/08/2010 20:27

Can I join? I did a bit of getting into running earlier in the summer but something knocked my confidence and I need a little boost to get it going again. I've got 2stone to lose- but happy to get there steadily and safely.

As someone said: the hardest part is getting out of the door...

I've got the right shoes and stuff to wear- do I need a stop-watch or digital wrist-watch?? What do you guys use? (before- I wasn't that formal about timing so I'd just run as much as I could then walk and alternate. Perhaps I wasn't running far enough)

Would really appreciate being able to talk about it here.

AngryPixie · 27/08/2010 20:41

Welcome, FGM I am finding it hard to kickstart myself after a weekend of festival living but I am off to the gym this weekend (promise Loujalou)

We are both running a couch - 5k programme, mine is on my iphone and it talks me through each session, how long to walk/run for etc. It is great and I can play my own music at the same time, the voice just cuts it when it needs to.

I ran a 10k once about 5 years ago and I know I looked and felt my best then, I now have 3 children and also want to lose 2stone ish. Am feeling crabby and flabby!

likelylady · 27/08/2010 20:54

I've also completed week 4 today. It was hard but not impossible. I thing I struggle with is the boredom. I try to think about something indepth to take my mind off the fact of running. I try not to look at my watch cos that's fatal. I do feel loads better in myself since I started running although I have lost 18lbs (ww). Am sleeping better also and have tons more energy. However I would love to have different music to do my couch to 5k run so Angry Pixie just wondering how you do it with your iphone? How do you get different music to play and then for Robert's ("Hi I'm a 40 year old guy from northern California and on my last birthday..")voice to cut in.

Loujalou · 27/08/2010 21:33

I downloaded this podcast and listen to it. Yes is Raw-bert but he gets me through the hell that I am finding the running. He tells me when to stop running!

There is an android app called couch to 5k and you pay a couple of dollars and can put your own music in. There might be one for the iphone. I am not very good with my phone so find ipod podcast easier to deal with!

Welcome FGM. If I can do it anyone can. Am not unfit but have never ever run. So am giving it a go. Did week 4 day 1.

Likelylady wow to losing the weight. I am thinking of trying to do ww but am rubbish with diets.

Loujalou · 27/08/2010 21:37

Pixie you have some catching up to do! You can do it. Week 3 is ok - week 4 is a killer but did one day of it so got 2 to go. Oh mi god am nearly half way there. Not half way to running 5k though. Onwards and upwards. Have started Jillian Michael's 30 day shred too. Here's the linky. That was hard work but more enjoyable than running.

Hi AngryPixie, Likleylady and Loujalou. I am downloading the podcast you liked to now...
Plan is to go on Monday morning

AngryPixie · 27/08/2010 22:08

Hey all,
likelylady the iphone app is called 'get running' The voice is an english female, encouraging without sentimentality.

You play music via the ipod function on your phone, as you would normally, you then start up the 'get running app' and it very cleverly pauses your music for a few seconds whilst she speaks, without you having to do anything at all.

I am feeling thoroughly inspired by our little running crew so I'll be doing week 3 tomorrow, watch this space!

likelylady · 28/08/2010 04:30

thanks for that info, angrypixie, will def look into that. Loujalou, thanks for the vote of encouragement. I've been losing the weight with weight watchers and unfortunately am too good at diets and not good at keeping the weight off when I've lost it. This is something I'll have to work on but I do find the running helps keep my appetite in check. I don't seem to get all the cravings for crap food.

AngryPixie · 29/08/2010 10:23

OK, I'm back. I did week 3 day 1 today.

I found the first 3 min run really hard, my legs felt like lead weights Shock but the 2nd 3 mins was much easier. I am going to really try to do the next 2 this week to get back on track.

Good luck everyone!

Loujalou · 29/08/2010 10:50

Week 4 day 2 done. Found it really hard but my new running shoes and socks really helped my knees. Think I might be getting addicted. Though 5k seems far far away.

Well done pixie I knew a bit of pushing would get you back on track :)

OP posts:
AngryPixie · 29/08/2010 11:13

Keep pushing, I wouldn't have got there today without you Grin

Loujalou · 30/08/2010 20:43

Argh its my last day of week 4 tomorrow. Not really looked at week 5 yet. Think there might be a long run at the end of it.

OP posts:
Loujalou · 30/08/2010 20:46

Pixie you love me really! Even though I have made you go through lots of pain!

pantaloons · 30/08/2010 20:51

Hi,
I might join you if that's ok?
I'm on week 3 day 3 of the c25k podcasts.

After doing nothing since birth I think I am doing ok! And am really enjoying the time off from the 3 dc's. My only down side at the minute is one of my knees is hurting, I'm hoping it is just a blip though.

AngryPixie · 30/08/2010 21:37

LouJalou you are rocking through it. No running for me today, planned rest Grin but did put my roller skates on for the first time in many years and spent a mad few hours in the park with dc.

Hi Pantaloons, I'm also on week 3 and planning to do run 2 tomorrow. Keep an eye on that knee, running is terrible for them. Could you do the run on a treadmill to cushion the pounding a bit?

pantaloons · 30/08/2010 21:42

Hi Pixie,
I've changed my route over the last couple of runs in the hope it's the angle of the pavement I normally run on. One stretch is really inclined towards the road and I thought it might be that. I'm hoping so because I am really enjoying the peace and quiet!

likelylady · 30/08/2010 21:51

OMG just did day 1 of Week 5. Day 1 is ok but day 2 goes to 8 mins running and then Day 3 of Week 5 goes to 20 mins running non-stop!!!!
Actually day 1 week 5 was easier than last weeks. it's almost like you get a rhythm going as you're not stopping and starting. Going to continue though as lost another 1.5 pounds at weigh in at WW! But last tonights have pigged out on Nigella's choc sauce (golden syrup, double cream, milk choc) and ice cream. But hey you got to live. Good luck everyone with their run this week.

Loujalou · 31/08/2010 10:27

Well done Likelylady. It doesn't look so bad day 1 but the rest of the week looks pretty scary. Am doing day 1 on Thursday.

Its my birthday today and I am still going to go running in my birthday trainers. How sad am I.

Welcome Pantaloons the more the merrier - it was just me and Pixie a few days ago and we need the motivation company.

OP posts:
Loujalou · 31/08/2010 17:33

Oh dear had to stop for 30 secs in my second 5 minute run but carried on after. Its the first time I have had to stop but I blame the heat. Anyway got there in the end and burned lots of calories.

OP posts:
pantaloons · 31/08/2010 19:45

Oh dear, just back from run 3 of week 3 and I am totally knackered. I'm thinking about repeating the week as I was really struggling. What do we think about this?

Get ready for a rubbish excuse -
I think part of the reason I struggle is that we are 1000ft above sea level and every route I take involves a huge bank just when I am at my most tired.

Also I am hopelessly unfit.

I know which excuse sounds the best though! Wink

AngryPixie · 31/08/2010 20:02

I think it's sensible to redo a week if you feel you need more time at that level, better than carrying on and setting yourself up to fail.

Don't know what the others think, but well done you for getting out there.

Shaz10 · 31/08/2010 20:04

Hi all, I'm on the other thread too, have done week 2 run 2 so far and really enjoying it! Have been really lucky with the weather so far, and not working yet so have lots of time (babysitter permitting) to fit them in.

I listen to Rawbert too, I quite like him! :)

pantaloons · 31/08/2010 20:21

think I will repeat. My sister is coming with me on Thursday. She is in a running club and can go a good way, so hopefully she will be able to put a bomb up my bum motivate me!
