Just catching up.

@RenegadeKeeblerElf instead of giving up something could you take up a beneficial and mindful something instead? I was thinking this myself and agree, my normal penance/Lent promise was always food denial of some kind - never chocolate, I don’t eat enough for it to matter so I usually went for cheese or bread. But now I don’t eat much of those either. So I’m thinking about a daily mindful practice instead, to maintain the intent of reminding myself that it’s Lent and what that means…

Just an idea!

Missingducks · 18/02/2026 12:30

Another with thanks for the new thread ... I've had a couple of days of not scrolling and boom thread 11 was full!
DH laughed at my jeans today and has cut the legs off them so I don't wear them again ... Apparently there was almost room for him inside them as well as me.

We've had a couple of weeks of guests - I have taken to putting my MJ inside the salad drawer inside the foil cool bag they are delivered in. No-one obeying the "Help yourself and don't wait for service" rules looks inside sealed coolbags.

PositiveAttitude · 18/02/2026 12:36

I have found you all again!! I was wondering why you had all suddenly gone quiet!! 😏🙄

I had to take our dog to the vets yesterday (She is fine) And she was weighed. She weighs 12kg. I can just about pick her up, but definitely couldn't carry her more than a couple of steps.
In the car on the way home I realised I have lost the equivalent to 3 of her!!! I was gobsmacked!!!!

I am glad you got your transport to hospital sorted, @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOneand I hope your son gets his problems sorted soon.

We are away to Edinburgh for the weekend. In the past this would all centre around where to eat and enjoy ourselves. Now I can't even be bothered to look up where will be good to go to eat!

Now off to catch up on everything on this thread that I have missed already.

TragicMuse · 18/02/2026 12:45

I was away Monday night and yesterday. Monday I really pushed the boat out!

Yesterday was a funeral and wake. Absolutely masses of food. I had exactly what I wanted and was fine - it was so so much less than my pre-MJ portion would have been. And then I was starving on the drive home and had to have a sandwich and some quavers! I haven’t eaten so much bread since this time last year, before MJ!

It seems to have worked out, I’m still down from last week.

Today is my birthday and we’re going out for burgers. I’ve planned for this and I know what I’m doing, which is burger and only a few fries. And I postponed jabbing so that if I get the nausea (which comes and goes) it won’t be today!

It’s sort of feeling manageable, so far.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 18/02/2026 13:08

Happy birthday @TragicMuse 💐 sorry to hear you’ve been to a funeral though….

TragicMuse · 18/02/2026 13:35

Thanks @Iwouldratherbesinging. It was probably the toughest I’ve ever been to except for my dad’s…

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 18/02/2026 13:40

@TragicMuse that's a good idea as well, a bit of reflection is always a good thing.

Food wise this week is going to be tricky. I am in Spain with my daughter, she is a very fussy eater (probable ARFID, definite emetophobia meaning she has a very limited range of foods to eat away from home) and we are really struggling to find anywhere to eat except McDonald's, and even that isn't great (the chicken seems to be a lower standard and no veggie mains!). So I'll be surviving on fruit and Spanish omelettes mainly! On the plus side, it's only 2.30 and I've already done 10,000 steps!

Missingducks · 18/02/2026 14:25

@TragicMuse 🎈 🎈 happy birthday 🎈 🎈

PearlsTeapot · 18/02/2026 17:49

@TragicMuse happy birthday, sorry it was a hard funeral, sending you love.

@RenegadeKeeblerElf good luck finding food you can boh eat and I hope you have a great holiday!

Off to Nando's tonight to meet a friend, food I love, but I'll just eat carefully.

One of my DC has ARFID @RenegadeKeeblerElf
He lives on Huel.
Occasionally he eats vegan burgers and chips.

Oh, and chickpea curry.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 18/02/2026 18:00

It's so hard for them. DD lives on plain pasta with either fish fingers, IKEA meatballs, or Quorn nuggets, plus hash browns for breakfast and ham sandwiches for lunch, chips if we are out. Good luck finding any of that in Spain 🙈 She is also paranoid about use by dates and hygiene and if she gets it in her head that something isn't cooked properly then she just can't eat it.

UsernameShmusername2024 · 18/02/2026 18:52

Found you all! Thanks for the new thread @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne

Well, pancake day. I ate 7!....it's definitely time for me to move up to 12.5mg, have 2 more 10mg doses which correspond with half term (next week for me unlike most of the UK off this week) and my birthday and am then going up and hoping for a renewed feeling of being on it.

Had a massive NSV the other day though- I bought size 18 jeans!! I started MJ a year ago in size 28 jeans, to be in size 18 feels amazing. For years I've fantasised about being a size 14 which just seems so normal to me and to think I'm only 2 sizes from that is mind blowing 🤯

MrTiddlesTheCat · 18/02/2026 18:53

I just cooked dinner from scratch and I stood up the whole time. Normally I have to keep sitting down as my back hurts so much.

TragicMuse · 18/02/2026 19:19

I’ve been out for birthday tea - couldn’t eat all my burger and only had about 20 chips! I feel satisfied and happy with my choices.

Happy birthday 🎉 🎂

PearlsTeapot · 18/02/2026 20:31

I had 2 chicken thighs, 1/2 avocado and creamed corn tonight. I got chips but left them as I felt full enough. Pleased with myself for that! I love eating out, or I used to, but it still felt like an enjoyable meal, if half the size of old me portions.

TragicMuse · 18/02/2026 20:36

That sounds delicious @PearlsTeapot

ive just finished the last couple of bites of my burger!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 18/02/2026 20:38

I had a pork chop, apple sauce (made by me) chips (real chips from scratch) and gravy.

It was sublime.

Oh you lot, your dinners all sound gorgeous. I've had a yogurt! Ive got raging bloody toothache and can't face anything more. Emergency dentist gave me antibiotics and can't do anything until infection clears, so that's me on baby food for the next few days 😡

PearlsTeapot · 18/02/2026 21:09

Oh you poor thing @Billybingbong toothache is the absolute worst, I hope the antibiotics kick in really quick for you.

My brother has just announced he's coming to Scotland to stay tomorrow and wants to go out for dinner at the Persian restaurant. So that's eating out twice in a week. I can't wait to see him! He's the best brother! He lives 4 hours away but has a work meeting in Edinburgh.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 18/02/2026 22:28

Loving all the dinner chat! I found out that Burger King in Spain have an extensive plant-based menu so a burger for me (plus some of the veggie nuggets DD wouldn't try) and fries for her. No idea how she stays so skinny with her mostly carb-based diet, she obviously didn't inherit my metabolism!

Novjaro · 18/02/2026 23:09

Haven’t commented for a while but have been following everyone’s progress/frustrations! I’m in the ‘frustrated’ camp having only lost about 10lb since October. I guess I should look at it as a win as normally I’d be 10lb heavier after Christmas!

I’ve got a couple of health things going on which are taking up a bit of headspace - one is that I fell over and hurt my ribs (thankfully not broken) recently, although there’s an NSV in there as I managed to get up easily, despite the stabbing pain, so 🥳 for that! The other is a problem with my adrenal glands which means they’re producing next to no cortisol and I have no energy, so with that and the ribs I haven’t been exercising much this year.

Onwards and upwards though. @PearlsTeapot I’m so glad you’re home and back with your DW and family 🤗. And @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I’m glad you’ve sorted your hospital travel. Sounds like an important thing not to miss and I hope all goes well. (I have a gorgeous white cat who looks a bit like yours - he’s a ragdoll 😻). And @eibbed999 I could’ve written most of your recent posts myself! Hope you’re doing ok.

I’m now 5st 10 down from my start weight with another few stone to go. I’m dosing about 14 at the moment and it’s ok but I definitely get snackier after a few days. Will see how it goes but think I’ll be on 15 before long.

Keep going everyone!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 19/02/2026 00:49

My DS with ARFID is extremely fit and skinny.
He has a very physical job, too.

Only one of my four DC inherited my predilection for eating far too much.
The others are thin.

It's interesting seeing your kids and what differences and similarities there are @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne @RenegadeKeeblerElf - I have 3 technically adult kids, one is overweight (not obese but he could definitely head that way if things don't change), one who is underweight (which is even more worrying, he's built like a twig and could blow away in a brisk wind) and my daughter who is absolutely Goldilocks - a brilliant relationship with food and exercise, a curvy size 8/10. Same genetics, raised in the same environment, all very different when it comes to food/weight. Sometimes I wonder what effect it had seeing my behaviour and struggles for the whole of their lives, but don't let myself go down that path too far - there's always something to blame you for as a mum, I did the best I could and am frankly awesome in many other ways!
