Mounjaro side effects.

Boliviabae · 28/06/2025 23:05

I took my first dose yesterday.

I have had severe effects from it all day today. I didn't realise that it would be this bad?

I have had severe nausea all day. I feel like I am going to throw up every ten minutes.

I have had really bad stomach pain.

I have had diarrohea.

I have had constant foul smelling sulphurus burps.

It's been awful.

@Glowingup I think that’s the thing - it simply doesn’t suit some people as we all react differently to it and not everyone wants to live life taking pepto bismol or similar on a very regular basis-

Slimagain · 29/06/2025 14:56

I think the reason OP is getting a hard time is due to lines like ;
Side effects of medication should not be this severe.
what is this medication doing to our bodies ?
It makes me wonder how safe it is.

These all seem suspiciously close to the rhetoric I’ve seen on other weight loss forums where someone posts about how awful the side effects of the drug are in an attempt to discourage others from using them.
The reason that people feel this need are as complex as the reasons people put on weight in the first place. However they are all pretty well known.

1 Moral outrage that people who have ‘let themselves’ become obese - now have a perceived ‘easy way out’

2 The poster themselves are overweight however either do not qualify or they do qualify but the cost is prohibitive. So wealthier /fatter friends get access to MJ while they don’t.

3 Severe food addiction, normally masking psychological reasons . There are some people for whom food is such an emotional crutch , they don’t actually WANT to stop eating and the suppression gained through MJ is just too much to deal with and they have no where to go .. yet their logical brain tells them that obesity is incredibly harmful to the health .. are bombarded by successful MJ users who are now at a healthy BMI and feel pressured to take it.. but they don’t really want to .. so will leap at the chance to declare themselves in the incredibly rare cohort of people at risk of pancreatic disease.. or similar. Thus giving them the ‘out’ they need to over eat again. Obesity is so complex that this Miracle drug (for me - lost 8 st) .. comes with psychological battles for some

im not saying for one minute that OP falls into any of those categories.. she has had ONE 2.5mg dose 24 hrs ago.. so really all she needs to do is follow the pepto bismol advice along with small amounts of protein.. and crack on for a while yet. As well as discussing her own particular side effects with her provider.

The anecdotal tales of seeing ‘lots of people post about side effects ‘ is not reliable evidence. People only
post about negative issues because they want advice . For all the posts on ‘bad side effects’ there are 100’s if not thousands of us who have seen this drug take is from a genuinely life threatening level of obesity (BMI 40+) to 22. With good BP and good cholesterol. and no side effects save the annoying bout of constipation.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/06/2025 15:01

@Slimagain I do think some of those elements are correct too

I didn't get a hard time from everyone , only from some posters.

I mean i just think that your post is ridiculous. I would never tell anyone else what to do.

I have wrote the below very clearly earlier in t
the thread

I wrote:

That is a bit dismissive of you.

I was meant to work today, I work weekends, and i have had to call in sick, because of how sick I'e been after taking mounjaro.

I had no idea that the side effects would be this extreme, the next day. I have never felt as sick in my life.

I see other posters have written that the most extreme nausea they experienced, was up to 48 hours after taking the dose, so I am hoping that it will ease tomorrow.

I had terrible side effects. Had to stop after 6 weeks. And then things got worse... 6 weeks later I can still barely eat.
On the plus side I've lost 4 stone in this time.
But I'm having a barrage of tests to ascertain what tf is going on with my stomach.
I was only ever on 2.5ml! Yet the egfe t has been intense.
I'm quite frightened of food now. I had one instance where I had to go to A&E in an ambulance because the pain was so bad. And that was in the weeks I'd come off the mounjaro.
Unfortunately it does seem to affect an unlucky few very intensely.
Again the silver lining is that I have lost a great deal of weight and am no longer obese....
But I feel so ill all the time and eating is a struggle. Some days I can only drink huel and not eat any solids. It's been a nightmare.
I don't regret it because as I said I'm no longer obese and I have hope that they can get to the bottom of whatever going on with me and I can get better. Obviously it's triggered something..
The doctor was saying maybe the low calorie intake triggered gastritis.
So hopefully things will improve.
I feel like I'll keep the weight off because I'm terrified of having to go through any of this ever again!!

TheBig50 · 29/06/2025 15:31

I'm sorry to hear that you are so poorly on it @Boliviabae . It peaks at day 3.

All I can say is that it clearly isn't for you and I hope you feel better soon. It is probably best to discontue the MJ.

You lost 4 stone in 6 weeks?

the doctor saying your low calorie intake may have triggered it, makes sense. You are not supposed to have a low calorie intake, you are supposed to use MJ to help you eat a normal, balanced diet, in a deficit of course, but not low enough to trigger gastritis.

Nobody has done this, the replies are regarding what that poster has eaten.

I hope you feel better soon

In my experience it's unusual to have these effects so severely so quickly so I think you're sensitive to it/a bit unlucky.

I have had some of those symptoms but only for max 12 hrs and on higher doses/when moving up.

Sounds like you'll have to stop completely or take a much reduced dose

I edited the post to fix a typo and i accidentally deleted it.

I didnt say that anyone had done it had they.

I said i hope that people are not cruel to the poster on the other thread who said that she feels very sick after going up a dose.

Is she going to be told that she is scaremongering, or is just me that is going to be abused while i am very sick

OP posts:
BiscuitBotherer · 29/06/2025 16:39

@Boliviabae You only told people that it was their choice for their body after you wrote several posts questioning what people were putting into themselves, and whether it was safe. You added that caveat when you were rightly (IMO) handed your arse for scaremongering.

Someone else’s post has nothing to do with you. Why did you even raise it and say you hope people don’t say XYZ to her? You could literally do that about any thread on here but it’s not relevant or anything to do with you.

FoxRedPuppy · 29/06/2025 16:44

I think probably because you posted something along the lines of:

What is the medication doing to our bodies? Is it even safe?

The other poster hasn’t done that.

She spoke about what she ate and didn’t say the medication was unsafe is probably why her thread went differently.

Yes but you also states the the drug was unsafe due to the side effects. And queried that due to your experience the drug might have a negative effect on everyone’s bodies.

FoxRedPuppy · 29/06/2025 16:53

I am sorry you’ve had such awful reaction. Drug side effects are common for many medications. As I’ve said I’ve had to be admitted to hospital to start some drugs as they are known to be so bad.

Side effects, however severe, don’t mean a drug is unsafe though. Look at chemo!

It has everything to do with me, when it is relevant to the abuse that I have received.

I wrote that i am sick afer taking a dose, I get abused and told I am scaremongering.

There are many other threads on here where people talk about the side effects that they have suffered, so I was absolutely shocked to receive abuse when i wrote about my side effects.

It was the last thing that I expected to happen.

Then, I pointed out that another poster has come on today, and is talking about her side effects in a thread .

Side effects are so common when taking mounjaro, we should be supporting and helping each other, when people come on here.

It’s nothing to do with you.

if you think you have received abuse then report it to MNHQ don’t be dragging other posters into it. That person has an Indian and some alcohols and felt unwell. They never suggested MJ wasn’t safe.

Why exactly are you annoyed by the phrase "is it safe"?

It seems like a very mild thing to write.

After it made me extremely sick for two days, why wouldnt i wonder is it safe for my body?

I'm allowed to write about my concerns. You dont get to police what I write.
