Boliviabae · 28/06/2025 23:05

I took my first dose yesterday.

I have had severe effects from it all day today. I didn't realise that it would be this bad?

I have had severe nausea all day. I feel like I am going to throw up every ten minutes.

I have had really bad stomach pain.

I have had diarrohea.

I have had constant foul smelling sulphurus burps.

It's been awful.

Imagine having the energy and motivation to start a made up thread purely to put people off a weight loss drug.

This did cross my mind but I decided to take this at face value as regardless of which of us is right - newcomers looking into starting will find this thread so it’s more important to address the truth and ensure that’s clearly stated alongside the scare stories. (Some of which are true - for a TINY proportion of total users and in almost all cases resolvable with time/support with OTC meds short term).

OneGiddyRubyViewer · 29/06/2025 08:58

It’s not though really. vomiting constantly could make OP dehydrated and I threw up my medication for other serious conditions. No drug is completely safe.

OP can stop taking it. She has experience extreme side effects, the vast majority of users do not have this reaction. The drug is safe.

I took the first post at face value, but the more the OP posted the more red flags. Nah.

Right? I’m in one of the monthly starter threads on here and everyone is honest about the extent of their side effects, their length and severity.

The ones experiencing significant issues are very much in the minority, and of those ones they’re very clear-eyed about the fact that it works for some and not for others. They certainly aren’t starting threads wailing about “what we are putting into our bodies”. They’ve acknowledged that medicines work better for some than for others.

What you wrote REALLY fucking annoys me.

Why am i not allowed to write my experience after taking it. I have been as sick as a dog and i have been shocked at how sick i am.

Do you want me to write "oh i felt great after taking it". I won't lie.

If you control people so that no one can write about a bad experience after taking it,

Then people get an incorrect view of what it is like to take it. Its not all sunshine and roses taking mounjaro

We should all be allowed to write our true experiences.

Im not trying to put anyone off taking it. I would never try to control anyone else.

I will write it here clearly :

if anyone wants to take mounjaro please take it, it is your decision for your body.

I stopped it after 5 doses because I don’t want to spend my time mainllining rennies and feeling like I had morning sickness 3 days a week, however I still stick to the principles of it , high protein, more salad, more veg, more water greek yoghurt, eggs, no snacking 1200 cals a day and am still losing at the same rate, but I never really snacked and have good willpower - if I thought I couldn’t lose it without MJ , I would have powered through the side effects- to be honest I just thought it would speed things up , but for me it didn’t - it’s a really individual thing and depends on many other factors - I always said I couldn’t lose it , but clearly I can , I just needed more consistency over longer periods and to be honest with myself - and no I can’t lose at say 1400 to 1500 a day at 63 - I simply maintain

Crikeyalmighty · 29/06/2025 10:29

And oh I upped the exercise too a fair bit - hadn’t ever really done that either -

I think that a lot of people have these side effects though.

I just rang a friend who took mounjaro last year. I knew that she had taken it, but we hadn't talked about it in any depth.

I asked her today did she have any side effects while she was on it.

She said that she had a lot of extreme nausea, diarrohea and burps at the start. She also said that she had difficulty sleeping many nights.

She did say that she was very sick for the first four weeks, but then it got a bit better for her after that.

My side effects were horrible and I stopped too. I felt like my whole digestive system had slowed down. The nausea, constipation and pain were awful. I stopped and the relief was wonderful. I hated what it was doing to my body.

soupforbrains · 29/06/2025 10:47

The first two weeks which I took MJ I had 48 hours after each injection of violent vomiting and diarrhoea. I have a significant weight journey and am doing this for health reasons not aesthetics so I persevered. The 3rd and 4th weeks I had 24-48hrs of nausea and occasional vomiting. But after that things improved every week. At the start I couldn’t imagine sticking with it, and I definitely didn’t think I would EVER increase dose. But I’m now in month 5 and I’m up at 7.5mg dose and I now have almost zero side effects.

I don’t know anyone who has stuck with it who hasn’t found that the SEs improved and went away with time. Those who saw no improvement generally gave up pretty quickly.

it IS horrendous when it’s bad though, so you need to evaluate if you can deal with it enough to make it through the other side and whether it is worth it for you.

BrienneMonroe · 29/06/2025 10:47

OP there are things you can do to lessen side effects.

What did you eat in the days before taking the jab? Heavy and greasy food will increase SE

What time did you take the jab? After a big meal? On an empty stomach?

Where did you inject? The thigh seems to lessen side effects?

How hydrated are you? Min of 2-3 litres a day

Eat really bland foods for the first few weeks then introduce foods one at a time so you can identify triggers.

I am no social media junky but TikTok was invaluable for me to educate myself and make smart choices to lessen potential effects. I sincerely hope you feel better soon

I had cereal for breakfast, vegetable soup for lunch and fish and salad for dinner the day befor I started. I eat pretty healthy anyway.

I injected in my thigh.

Thank you. I will eat bland food and try to drink more water

If you think it’s so unsafe, and your mum was so poorly, why on earth did you start it?
of course there is side effects and they are well documented in the press and online. Your post is scare mongering. If you think it’s so unsafe don’t take any more.

So rude and nasty

I have already written that I felt unsafe AFTER taking it, not before.

My mum was extremely sick after taking it, but everyone's body is different, she is 75 and I am 40, and i thought that age might have been a factor in how sick she got. So it thought that i might not necessarily have the same reaction.

Stop fucking saying that i am scaremongering. That is a rude and frankly dangerous stance to take.

People are allowed to write about their reactions to medication.

What about all the other posters on this thread who wrote that they had severe reactions after taking mounjaro.

Are you going to tell them all, that they are all scaremongering too?

OP posts:
Boliviabae · 29/06/2025 11:12

I can't believe that anyone would be so ignorant to write that anyone who speaks about having side effeces on medication is "scaremongering".

It is extremely important to talk about side effects on medication.

Say If your mother started taking heart medication and she began getting sick constantly.

If she told you that she was vomiting all day and she was really worried after taking the medication, would you tell her that she was scaremongering? It is cruel and heartless to write that.

People are being so weird on this post, accusing the OP of making up the post, why are you all being so rude to her?
Shes had a bad experience and wants to talk about it, it’s her experience so relevant to her and she should be able to share it.
@Boliviabae if you feel like you want to continue I’d really recommend getting some Pepto Bismal, it does smell of germolene, but if you hold your nose when taking it it actually tastes ok, slightly minty, it really really helps with nausea, indigestion and sulphur burps.
From my own experience having been taking MJ for a year, I initially had no nausea or indigestion, however once I’d lost most of my weight I did have two episodes of really terrible nausea, one time with full on projectile vomiting, so you never really know when these things can happen.

Personally I feel it was my body saying the meds were too strong for me at that point, so I moved down, a similar thing happened 3 months later on the lower dose, so I’ve moved down again (I’m now in maintenance).
I do think it’s very strong medication for some people and their bodies react badly, most people do work through the side effects and they lessen or go away completely, but for others it’s just too much to take.
I was surprised how unwell I felt when I did have nausea and indigestion and I think if it had happened right at the start I may also have felt like the OP.

Cheesesteakyum · 29/06/2025 11:45

Side effects seem to vary a lot from person to person and also at different times on your journey. I got times of tummy aches, feeling sick, sulphur burps etc. in the beginning hence my advice above about what to eat and medications etc., above. This group is very good and I’ve found it to be supportive in that others who have taken the medication for a while give advice if the poster wants to continue to take the medication. I decided to take that advice and I’m 3.5 stone down and have very few side effects these days.

If you don’t want to take the medication or you feel your symptoms are too much don’t; if you do then, there is a lot of advice on here and other threads about how to avoid symptoms by being careful about what you eat especially around injection time (and this is how I manage my symptoms) and if you do get them how to treat or manage them.

I hope you feel better soon and are able to make a decision that’s best for you. If you feel you need medical attention then that’s always an option. Everybody’s body and hence choices are different.

Because she started sounding like an anti vaxxer!

"It's not safe" nonsense she's going in about.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/06/2025 12:48

@Boliviabae for me I wasn’t actually sick, I just had a low grade sicky feeling 4 days a week plus far too
much heartburn - I decided not for me , but that’s because to be honest I knew I could lose without it - did 2 and a half stone 18 months ago in 6 months and then I just stopped - I’m not sure why, think I just got bored. I think it’s really individual thing, if I had say 7 stone to lose, was a big snacker and had no willpower I would probably have put up with it -

Crikeyalmighty · 29/06/2025 12:50

@Boliviabae my suggestion for you is to eat a lot of bland food- eggs, Greek yoghurt, chicken breast, cottage cheese , crackers- if you don’t eat I found it worse.tons of water!!

Itscoldouthere · 29/06/2025 12:57

@BusWankers I didn’t get that from her posts, but I’ve been on MN long enough to know that threads can take funny unexpected turns.
I think she sounds like someone who’s feeling really unwell and she now has to decide if she wants to continue or not, hopefully most people will realise that not everyone has the same experience and you have to see if it works for you or not and if you have these type of side effects you can choose to try and take medication to help with them or just stop.

Glowingup · 29/06/2025 13:45

Im on MJ and have weighed up the risks and decided I want to take it. I am fully aware that some people get really extreme side effects and end up in hospital. I have had an episode of severe nausea and diarrhoea that no OTC medication seemed to touch and when I was going through that I swore not to take it again. Once I was better I decided to carry on. I definitely believe the OP and how she feels. For SOME it’s not a safe drug and can be dangerous. Denying that and pretending that nausea is due to a bug and that it’s extremely rare to get side effects is not helping anyone. I’ve noticed that there are lots of people on here who do this - they will refuse to hear any opinion that the drug isn’t 100% safe. Also while GLP1 drugs have been around for a couple of decades, Mounjaro/tirzepatide has not.

FoxRedPuppy · 29/06/2025 14:14

creekyjohn · 29/06/2025 08:43

It’s perfectly safe, despite you having had a severe reaction to it. I’m sorry you are not getting on with it but that doesn’t mean it’s unsafe.

Sorry you are struggling.

Ive had severe reactions from medications before. One an antidepressant- I had to be admitted to start it as the vomiting, dizziness was so bad for a few days. Similarly a medication for my heart more recently. I had 4-5 days of headaches, extreme dizziness and nausea.

So it does happen. I’ve been lucky with Mounjaro, just a bit of nausea when I’m hungry.
