Welcome to thread 11 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!
Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we throw away the tent dresses, have no chub rub and wear ALL the damn shorts as we head towards Summer Holiday Season. 🙌

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and generally mutually admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W29 D5 and on my third 7.5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 1.8lbs
GW 9st 13.9 (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 51.2 lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style chat too 🥰

@Mounjaropen I haven't braved life without tights but turns out I'm a bit of an hourglass since mj rather than a beach ball 😜. I never really wore shape wear and don't think I've noticed much difference in sweatiness but I'm really affected by heat whatever my weight. I avoid sweating by not doing enough exercise. I try, but just never keep it up, except walking that I do almost every day through the woods thanks to ddog. I think that's probably why I'm not even worse.

flametrees · 13/06/2025 15:56

@Goldleafcat I’m not that impressed with the stylist report. Light spring which I knew but I thought I’d get hair colour ideas but it’s an extra £75 for colour idea and a further £75 for style. Already spent £250 for a pretty generic report.

That is incredibly disappointing. Was it online or an in person consultation?

Goldleafcat · 14/06/2025 09:32

Oh the irony. After being glum with my 0.4lb loss, I had a long work day and the (healthy) fish curry I’d intended to cook was jettisoned for fish and chips from the chippy, and a ridiculous amount of prosecco.

Didn’t weigh myself first thing (scared) but decided to bite the bullet to assess the damage before a nice hot bath, and even though I’ve had water, coffee and some breakfast I’m somehow 1.4lbs lighter than yesterday morning 🤣

The 4 stone loss klaxon is sounding!

Thanks so much @lovealongbath for taking the time to explain this so well. I was wondering how to use it.

I went for the more progressive thinning @TooExtraImmatureCheddar . Think I need the big guns! Will report back how it goes .

I’m going to order it on payday. Tired of looking at my scalp through my hair and hoping it’s not obvious to everyone else.

Keep going! Brilliant results.

I am very hungover.. we did NOT need the extra Singapore slings at Raffles post dinner so I am not hopeful for a loss when I weigh in later 😂

In a bizarre coincidence, I fell into a film rabbit hole late at night earlier this week - four weddings and a funeral (love that film) and last night we were sat at a table at the restaurant only for Simon Callow to be sat two tables down from us.

In other news, for the first time in years on a hot day in London, I wore a close fitting dress with only a bra and knickers underneath. Zero shapewear…for the first time since forever I was not a sweaty mess by the time I arrived at the restaurant 🥳 And in general, I sweat so much less than before it is remarkable. Anyone else finding that?

Yes, me! So much less sweaty. I used to be unable to wear soft bras/bralettes out of the house because I sweated right through them under my boobs, and through my top. Now, I can wear them.

I always wore chub rub shorts. The snag ones but don’t need them! My thighs are dramatically thinner. In fact my legs overall are tiny.

Weighing in.

W32D7
SW: 19st 9lbs
CW:15st 9lbs
1st GW: 17st 13lbs
2nd GW 15st 4lbs
TL: 4st 0lb

Officially registering that 4 stone loss 🥳 It's a double win this week as I've also now lost 20% of my starting weight!
I have a weird loss pattern on MJ, that I tend to drop a pound lighter by around Weds/Thurs and then it nudges back up for my Fri weigh in - I was 15st 8 yesterday. I'm just letting it be what it is though.

Welcome to the 4 stone club! 📣📣📣

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 14/06/2025 18:02

Skincare question, o lovely friends in my phone! Does anyone know what to do about dark pigmentation on the face? I’m reasonably fair skinned (mousy hair/greenish eyes) and after my holiday I’ve developed dark patches on my cheekbones, forehead and on either side of my mouth despite wearing factor 50 on my face the entire holiday. However, I don’t wear SPF religiously in this country unless it’s properly sunny, because I live in Scotland and it rains a lot. Google is suggesting hyaluronic acid, but that scares me in case it makes me more prone to sun damage. What should I do to get rid of them? I can start wearing SPF a lot more, but I don’t know if that’ll work if wearing factor 50 didn’t.

Mounjaropen · 14/06/2025 22:28

Oh no! Well firstly, you need to wear spf all year round (regardless of where you live in the uk). It is the best anti-ageing treatment you can do for yourself. I drum into DD if I’d known this at her age I’d have been obsessive about wearing it…and for sure wearing it every day for the past 8 years has made a significant difference.

For your current issue you need a decent quality vitamin c product IMO. The best one you can afford. The holy grail product is this one but it is insanely expensive.

https://www.skinceuticals.co.uk/en_GB/c-e-ferulic-for-visible-signs-of-ageing/S17.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19812292212&gbraid=0AAAAADtBELhynw_3gsz-rSbCPk-Ql3vjo&gclid=Cj0KCQjwu7TCBhCYARIsAM_S3Ng0PwquIIEpgxw2voA8wUdU9dIguYnI3HYZOUzHHnocMggfLgWcwvUaAjxrEALw_wcB

The thing to remember with Vit c products is that the minute you open them they start to degrade due to oxidation. For this reason I use oskia vit c capsules ( I buy wherever they are cheapest after discount) they are individually packaged so easier to manage. My skin looks waaay better after application.

I might not weigh tomorrow. Uni visit today - donuts for lunch, ice cream in the afternoon and then McDonald’s at the service station. Not our normal but I let the student pick… mental note, send her to uni with a tonne of vitamins because her food choices have limited nutritional value 🙈

I did this for mine…guess what they did when the bottle ran out? That’s right, they didn’t replace and got ALL of the colds/viruses 😂

Congrats to those crossing the new stone barrier.

After a couple of weeks of not eating properly, I’ve a fridge full of chicken, fish, fruit and salad. Making an effort to eat and am feeling more positive.

Had a g&t last night at the theatre (Evita with Rachel Zegler, she’s amazing, and does 90% of the show in a bra and shorts) and it didn’t affect me like the last time I had one, and the scales shifted this morning. Whoop.

Of the 5 new dresses I’ve bought 4 fit well and one is too tight on the hips. I’ve until September to slim into it. So that’s my current goal.

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine less red faced and out of breath than in the past.

MyRootinTootinBaby · 15/06/2025 09:15

I could do with some opinions on what to do around my holiday, please. I go away in 5 weeks. I jab on a Sunday and will leave on a Saturday, so 5 jabs before I go. I really want to be able to eat while I’m away; I accept that I may put on and I’ll try to minimise it, but I just don’t want to miss out on all the lovely food where I’m going and food is always a big part of a holiday for me. I’ll get right back on it when I get back.

I use my new pen tonight; I’ve been buying a 7.5ml on but not using the full amount of clicks, have been using around 6ml. I’ve started to get a bit more good noise, so I’d move up to 7.5 tonight. This would give me 4 weeks worth and I’d open a new pen the week before I go away. I then don’t want to take a pen away with me, so I’d have 3 more in that one on my return, but the pen would also have been open for a few weeks.

Would you open the pen the week before, or just have the week before holiday without a jab? And if I go for two (possibly three) weeks without a jab, would you go back to 7.5ml or go back down the dosages and restart at a lower ml?

MagnoliaTreePetals · 15/06/2025 09:34

Ive got a similar dilemma @MyRootinTootinBaby . Except that I want to try and take a pen that only lasts only the duration of the holiday. So I am going to do the golden dose at the end of this pen, which will mean I have 2 doses from my next pen before I go on holiday, and then have the 2 doses left for the holiday itself.
I could probably do with moving up a dose on my next pen but have decided to stay where I am for now, order my next pen for when I return, and move up when I get back.

Could you do something similar? Do the golden dose tonight and then the next pen lasts for the 4 weeks before you go?

I should have done that, but I binned the pen last week. Though I could do this pen for 4 weeks and then use the golden dose on week 5, then crack open a new pen on my return. I could continue doing 6mg and therefore stretch the pen out to 5 weeks, but I do feel ready to step up to 7.5. Although then it’s less of a step down to 0. I don’t know whether to go completely cold turkey on holiday, or whether to take the pen and drop down to 2.5. Though I’d rather not be trying to keep it cool, or having to think about it tbh.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 15/06/2025 10:10

I do know you’re supposed to wear SPF, but it makes my face greasy and my mascara smudge, and it seems silly to bother with it in the dead of winter when I’m arriving at work in the dark, leaving in the dark and maybe getting 15 mins of daylight popping out for a sandwich at lunchtime! However, I will do better with the SPF. Off to research vit C products - thanks, @Mounjaropen! I think I need a new facial SPF and the vit C (but not the £165 one, sadly!).

I wouldn’t take it on holiday either. However, with a 2 week holiday, what I would do is order a new pen (probably sticking to 7.5mg) and take the first dose early, either on the Sat you go or the night before. That way I’d only miss one week, and I’d jab the day I got back. How would that work? You might be less able to eat at the start of your first week, but it would wear off with plenty of holiday left.

Invisablepanic · 15/06/2025 10:56

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar skin pigmentation/melasma can be a bugger to remove. I've always been diligent with SPF, hat on holiday but we were away last June and all of a sudden my top lip darkened. It looked like I had drawn a moustache on!

I've been seeing a dermatologist since last November and she's got me on retinol, vit c and other exfoliators as well as really good SPF...I can't say it's made much difference at all to the pigmentation to be honest. I had asked about lasers but she said laser doesn't really work for it.

It’s such a bastard thing. I always wear a hat religiously on holiday because otherwise my scalp burns and this year I have a massive hat like a lampshade (which is very cute despite the sound!) and I still came away with brown splodges everywhere!

jay55 · 15/06/2025 11:45

@MyRootinTootinBabywhen I skipped a couple of doses for my holiday in December I did 2.5 for the first week back then back on to 5 the week after. Had a golden dose saved to use up for the purpose.
i found it took a good bit of time before i fancied any of the food when I was away so skipping the week before is no bad thing. I’m totally in agreement of enjoying a holiday and taking the hit. MJ makes it a lot easier to get back on the horse after.

Are you on HRT? Pigmentation is yet another side effect of the menopause sadly…also occurs during pregnancy for some women.

Rotten luck that it has happened tho.
