Welcome to thread 11 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!
Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we throw away the tent dresses, have no chub rub and wear ALL the damn shorts as we head towards Summer Holiday Season. 🙌

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and generally mutually admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W29 D5 and on my third 7.5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 1.8lbs
GW 9st 13.9 (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 51.2 lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Thank you all.

I’ve just seen my fb memories from June 2019 when I took my dc to a spice girls concert (I’m so cool 😆). I was wearing a dress that I remember loving and it was my “skinny girl dress” that I bought a size 10 and it actually fitted. That was when I was running and training for a half marathon. I checked my weight for June 2019 and it fluctuated from 9st12 to 10st 2… I wonder if the dress would fit me at 10st 3 🤔 Maybe something to try over the weekend.

Cantbesure · 10/06/2025 20:54

Definitely try the dress @TeenLifeMum. I have a French connection little black dress that’s in a Vinted pile somewhere. It was a bit tight before I hit 40 when I was half marathon training. I wonder if it will fit my 52 year old MJ self 😂

Just back from running club and just shy of 7.5k. Failed at a home yoga session earlier though. The bending forward made me feel very dizzy and nauseous. I think I might need to see the GP to check my BP which was on the low end of normal a few weeks back .

ive not decided whether to titrate down with tomorrow’s dose. I did hit target this week but bounced around a pound or so over the week. That’s maintenance really isn’t it, but I don’t intend to stay on 10mg if I don’t have to.

TeenLifeMum · 10/06/2025 14:12

I’m generally too lazy for the faff but the liquid is there same but I guess there’s a risk of mismeasuring the quantity but it’s so little I can’t imagine it you can “over dose”.

Sad news I’m our home today, my wonderful dog needs to be put to sleep. Vet coming tomorrow. I’m heartbroken. He nearly reached his 5th birthday. Cancer sucks in humans and dogs. I usually comfort eat but have completely lost my appetite. Dreading telling the children.

I’m going to investigate maintenance. I’ve been so nervous to change provider so need to get my head around it. I’ll also double check Asda online doesn’t offer similar.

So sorry to hear this about your dog. Devastating, especially when he is so young. Thinking of you and your family. Lots of last cuddles.

I've been awol and missed practically a whole thread! Hope you are all doing well, and are at more moving closer to maintenance!

I have maintained for nearly two months now. Having thought that I would come off MJ, I'm now not so sure. The ravenous hunger at the end of the week of 2.5mg did worry me. But I'm getting a bit better about it, and so I am eeking my jabs to once every 10 days, which also makes them a bit cheaper. I have a big long holiday in July/August, so I'm going to get another pen, and then skip that month (I won't be able to take it with me), and then see what happens. No exercise and no pen is a bit worrying, but hopefully I'm fitter and will still be active! And thanks to Oushk, and my gym habit, I'm not worried because I can undo any damage I might do, when I get home.

When I come back, I may go back to my 10 days. BUT I can't stay just on 2.5mg (once every 4 weeks) because I lose weight on it, and my clever gym machine tells me I need to build muscle density and fat! I am doing pump, pilates, step and zumba, and so that should build the muscle density. It is going up from March, when it was at it's lowest, but it definitely needs to go up. I'm also eating SO much more protein than I was doing pre-MJ!

So, I'm still in a very much exploratory life-after-MJ phase.

The weird thing is that although I have weighted less in my life, and I have been smaller, I somehow still look smaller. It is that body shape change. I have much less bum (sad), less defined waist (also sad) more boobs than when I was in my 20s (pre kids), and I think possibly a slightly wider rib-cage. So less curves. BUT I'm clearly slimmer, and SO much fitter than I have been for ages!

My hair is also falling out thick and fast!?! I thought it was MJ, but I'm now wondering if it is perimenopause. So I'm contemplating joining you all on the collagen journey too!

I’ve had similar thoughts about the hair loss too!

I’ve been blaming MJ (and there is probably some truth in this) but I’ve definitely noticed more and more peri menopausal symptoms this year, and so many people comment on hair loss being a big symptom on the fb groups / Reddit communities I’ve joined.

So I started HRT on Saturday (eek! Going ok so far, not sure I’ve noticed any general changes as yet).

From this group and others another factor is whether you are getting enough protein. I’ve been really up and down with it and I’ve had to give myself a big kick up the bum (carefully avoiding the HRT patch) and start planning better so I actually have protein available to eat (especially when I’m not feeling that hungry, or am really busy with work).

@KentishMama I have not had caffeine yet amd initially read your post as if you had lost 100kg. Now reread and realised that I am a dumbass but 30kg is still a totally amazing achievement so congrats for you and coffee asap for me!!

Edited

That's what I'm like before caffeine. Currently sitting on a commuter train with a very large coffee in hopes that it'll kick in soon...

I'm so so so sorry to hear about your dog. That's incredibly hard, and telling the kids will be horrible too. How old are they?
I will never forget telling our then 8YO that we had to put one of our cats to sleep. I have never seen such anger and despair, and just thinking about it makes me well up.

Sending you so much love.

Goldleafcat · 11/06/2025 08:31

flametrees · 10/06/2025 19:14

@TeenLifeMumso sorry about your dog. That’s heartbreaking.

I’ve just signed up for an image consultant to assess my shape and colours etc. I’ve had it done before but I think this one is more detailed. I want to improve my image over all.

Let us know how you get on! I am tempted by this.

In the mean time I asked chat gpt to do mine (it did come up with a palette to be fair!), and also if you do the ‘match2me’ thingy on Trinny London’s website, as well the skincare and make up suggestions, it provides a free palette of colours it thinks will suit you. AI won’t be anywhere near as good as a real consultant though!

Apparently I am a ‘cool summer’ 😆

TeenLifeMum · 11/06/2025 08:48

@KentishMama oldest dd is 17 (and the one I worry about the most), twins are 13. They shared a bed last night and are supporting each other. Dd 3 even gave dd2 permission to sit with her at lunch at school (very different friendship groups).

loss of appetite is high this week (possibly reaction to sadness). Also hair loss has been significant but not sure I can blame mj as it’s only been the last couple of weeks. I’ll up my iron and remember to take my well woman supplements. They do help but they’re bloody massive to swallow.

Cantbesure · 11/06/2025 08:51

I used chat gpt too @Goldleafcat and it also told me I was a cool summer and a rectangle. I def wouldn’t have been a rectangle pre-MJ. I did have my colours done a few years ago by a friend which had a different result, although she didn’t use the seasons my results then were cool and deep (thank you 😂). I got the idea for chat gpt from Emma Guns.

Goldleafcat · 11/06/2025 08:57

@phyllidafosset Oh I meant to reply about collagen too. I’ve been using the Willpowders one, which truly is tasteless - I’ve been having it in my coffee. However, I can’t really say I’ve noticed any improvement to my skin, hair or nails (in fact my skin is dryer than ever, but think peri related). After @Mounjaropen ’s recommendation I’ve decided to switch to Revive Collagen (the fishy one, rather than bovine) which is more easily absorbed. I did also read this morning that vitamin C is important to help with absorption.

Pumpkinforever · 11/06/2025 09:15

@TeenLifeMum just definitely try it on. sorry about your dog

@Goldleafcat the HRT patches really helped me but I stopped after a break out bleed after a breakout bleed in April. I am tempted though just to finish the 2 months I have, dr did say I could continue.

I am another pound down 💪🏻. 4lbs to go before I am overweight and then I will set next goals.

hope you get on well with it! I take a vit c gummy with mine.

Looking at organic protein powders this morning. Apparently the cheaper ones are often a by-product of non-organic farming which means the heavy metals left over from pesticides that you would usually remove by washing/cooking may be in a higher concentration than is ideal. Any recommendations? I also bought some pbfit which is powdered peanut butter- great source of protein but with far fewer calories. £6 on Ocado.

Oh I didn’t know that about the protein powder. I bought some on offer a while back but haven’t used any yet (a MyProtein one). I do have some protein sachets from Willpowders (I got a ‘stash tin’ on offer for £11 which has a selection of their different products), vanilla flavour and milk chocolate - you mix with 300ml milk or water… apparently made with bone broth? Not tried them yet either though!

(I think quite a few of the products are pretty good but I’m not on board with all the things Davinia suggests etc) (I’m a member of a group on fb with useful tips but some members are a bit wild on the clean eating front!) (good for them, I’m not as committed!).

Protein Powder

We have created the only protein powder on the market that includes bone broth and MCT Keto Creamer.  Our protein powder is free from GMOs, pesticides, artificial sweeteners, additives and preservatives; it won't cause bloating or disrupt your hormone...

I've been sucking down a sachet of Absolute Collagen's mango and mandarin flavoured marine collagen a day. I have almost convinced myself that fish goo overlaid with citrus flavouring is delicious. I'm not sure whether it's actually doing any good or not - my knees feel better but I have also lost 3 stone and done a lot of exercise so who knows?

Haha this has made me laugh!

Goldleafcat · 11/06/2025 16:54

Just picked up two Joules jackets I got on vinted (I know, I know, intervention may be required soon) which are a size 16. If anything, they are a bit big!! 😱

In other news I have booked a maintenance appointment with Oushk for September. Not sure I’ll be quite anywhere near there by then but suddenly feeling like my body is getting back into the zone a bit and had a mild panic in case they won’t accept me for having too low a BMi (very unlikely this’ll be the case, and picturing myself stuffing KFC and Big Macs ahead of the appointment if that came to be)

Meeting a friend for a couple of drinks this evening. She doesn’t know I’m on the jabs, wondering whether to say anything or not. Have lost quite a bit since I last saw her. She is the one who has been a bit odd about weight loss in the past (and recommended I get rid of most of my ‘thinner’ clothes). She has had fluctuating weight over the years (and when she goes all in on the weight loss it’s all she talks about, calories this, my fitness pal that etc).

Maybe I’ll just confess to the Botox and that’ll distract her. It’s a tricky one isn’t it.

Cantbesure · 11/06/2025 17:17

I keep forgetting about collagen. But my skin and hair have definitely improved since using tremella mushroom powder. It’s the only supplement I have actually fitted into my daily routine as it’s a little scoop into my morning coffee.

i am also going to try and remember to take a spatone sachet for iron as I’ve been feeling dizzy and nauseous. My old GP said spatone was better absorbed than iron tablets.

took my first titrated dose today. Feeling a bit anxious about maintenance. Fingers crossed I don’t put weight on this week.

Cantbesure · 11/06/2025 17:44

@Goldleafcat I did tell one friend I wasn’t sure of and she was a bit shocked but then she messaged me to ask where I got it from and how much 😂 she isn’t big enough to be eligible though I don’t think. But my general rule is only to tell people I’m comfortable with knowing. My adult DD is on it though and outed me to loads of people as she’s not been shy about it 😂

MagnoliaTreePetals · 11/06/2025 18:27

I agree that Spatone is brilliant, @Cantbesure and it doesn't cause the constipation that other iron supplements can cause.
I usually take mine in a small glass of orange juice as one needs vitamin C to absorb the iron. I take it for a couple of weeks when I start to feel a bit run down.

My hair has often gone through stages of falling out, usually after intense stress or a bad virus. Most recently, after I had Covid in 2021 It fell out in handfuls. Very distressing as Ive always thought my long wavy hair was my best feature, and my best feature was now lying on the bathroom/bedroom/kitchen floor (poor hoover).
I was recommended the Revive collagen by a dermatologist for skin healing. I have had a strong dose of covid again since then, the stress of moving house and of course months of MJ, but have not lost anymore hair than normal. I am sure the collagen has helped.

I also take Symprove everyday to help boost my gut flora and immune system.
Trying to stay healthy is not cheap!
I explained to DH that as I can't use expensive face creams due to allergies, I am allowed the Revive collagen and Symprove instead!

Bit nervous about weighing in tomorrow as I am at the point where I have plateaued and stalled previously..... It's the fear of yet another failure, (yet I do actually I have confidence in MJ and what I can ultimately achieve..... such mixed up thoughts)
I injected this morning and am waiting for it to 'kick in', the anxiety about weighing in is making me feel like turning to food, so I am sitting as far away from the kitchen as possible and have just painted my nails so I can't eat, all I can do is type!

Cantbesure · 11/06/2025 18:35

@MagnoliaTreePetalsi take the apple flavour one as it contains vit c. I recommended it to a friend and her iron levels really improved at her follow up blood test, after being low before. As a veggie I’m limited in the collagen I can take. And whilst I bought some capsules that have good reviews and won a Marie Claire award, I just don’t get myself into a good routine with them. The tremella has been so easy and as my skin felt softer almost immediately it’s made me want to keep it up.

it must have been very distressing to lose so much hair in that way. I’m glad the collagen worked for you. I’ve always had fine hair and I was worried about losing hair with MJ as I’m not blessed with a lot, but so far I seem to have been ok. I have had slow weight loss though and focused on protein. Mainly thanks to the fabulous support in here.

lovealongbath · 12/06/2025 06:30

morning everyone,

Weekly weigh in on 3.75 dose..
week 29

SW 18st 4.3lbs
CW 15 stone 2lbs
2 lb loss this week
total loss so far 3 stone 2.3 lbs
I have lost 17% of my starting weight
SBMI 43
CBMI 36.3

Achievements this week ….
This was my first week going up to 3.75mg.
My mood has been low and I had 2 afternoons this week where I was completely washed out and went to bed for power naps lasting over 2 hours. My steps are down, haven’t reached my 10k a day to 69,623 steps achieved this week.

Well done to everyone on the great losses and to those that have reached maintenance stage, we can do this. 💪

Goldleafcat · 12/06/2025 08:04

@Cantbesure @MagnoliaTreePetals Spatone is now in my Ocado shopping basket! As is the PBfit powder @Mounjaropen

I didn’t tell my friend about the expensive death jabs last night, it didn’t come up at all thank goodness!
