Welcome to thread 10 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we’ve successfully navigated Easter and head towards Summer Holiday Season. Stop here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W25 D1 and on my second 7.5mg pen

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 9lbs
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 44lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Morning all!

Checking in to say hi. The good news is that my back is an awful lot better than where it was, the pain has eased significantly. Not back to normal at all but quite frankly I’ll take it for now! I’ve been to see a physio who was great and now have some exercises to do (gently) to hopefully build up strength and prevent it happening again… what is odd that it’s been flaring each month for the last 3 months so we are all wondering if something hormonal is triggering / exacerbating it. I’m glad I’ve started conversations with the GP re perimenopause! Had my blood test this week and the results results are all notmal which is always reassuring. My HbA1c was 32 which is reduced from last year (suspect down to MJ effects and also weight loss! It was still in normal range last year but had crept up from the year before).

Weight wise pretty stable, may be down 1.5lbs I think. But I’ve been focusing on just feeling a bit better and have been eating a bit more (think hair loss seems to have slowed / stalled too!). Period is almost a week late so a rest and reset has been needed I think.

Speaking of rest, not sure how restful it’ll be, but we are off to Center Parcs tomorrow! Just for 4 nights. Quite excited, never been before! Will jab this afternoon so hopefully that helps keep me in check!

Hope everyone doing ok.

Fantastic news on the health front! Glad you are feeling better. I’ve never been to CP either, so have a lovely time and make sure your DH picks up the slack and lets you get some rest!

And 🥳 to losing another 1.5lbs 👏👏

@PinkArt, your mum and her selection of headscarves sounds like she was fabulous.

@Mounjaropen, I fecking love the sound of your clothes. Show us the Versace dress!

Still stuck - in fact, back up most of a pound. I actually gave the scales the finger this morning because I was so pissed off with them. I did spend most of yesterday cleaning the house for my in-laws coming today so I was very dehydrated and we got a takeaway so as not to mess the kitchen up. But it is still totally the scales fault.

Edited

lol at giving the scales the finger 😂

I was totally distracted this morning when weighing as a deer walked past my bathroom window 🥰 not sure who was more surprised as I met its gaze naked 😂 we used to have them in the garden quite frequently but then we got a massive dog with strong guarding instincts and had to fence off the land with stock fencing which meant they didn’t visit as much..but DH has left a bit of a wildflower meadow area around the house which I think they’ve been hiding in. Was quite lovely.

I’m massively hungover from too many Singapore gin slings at Raffles yesterday which was absolutely didn’t need after our fancy lunch. Then for some reason we started on the baileys when we got home so calorie and carb count for yesterday must be off the scale I reckon. Totally worth it though. DH is currently making bacon naans for breakfast (bacon, cream cheese, chili jam and fresh coriander in a naan) so I’m guessing I’m not getting to the 9’s before my big fat Greek holiday 😂

Edited to say hope your In-laws visit goes well! Enjoy the clean kitchen!

Sounds like a fantastic Saturday! I love Singapore Slings too. The bacon naan sounds next level so I will definitely be making one of those in the near future.

Oh I forgot to update on the Botox! I had it done this week - was going to cancel but then thought I may as well try it. The injections themselves were more painful than I expected - makes sense I suppose - a lot less fat in my forehead (in comparison with my tummy for MJ!). The Botox has truly kicked in now, my forehead feels a little weird and I keep thinking my eyebrows have gone a little Spock like (but when I take a selfie it looks fine so not sure if I’m paranoid). Even if they are, I’ve read and apparently this will calm down. I am conscious of slightly hooded eyes so she used quite a bit to balance it out (her advice), as a result there is not an awful lot of movement 😅 Shall see how it goes!

Morning skinny Minnie’s!
Question for you and it’s not meant in an inflammatory way, I’m wondering if I’m being simplistic or I’ve misunderstood the whole concept !
looking at other threads, didn’t ask there, didn’t want to be flamed hence asking in my tribe - that’s you lot.
Ive lost weight because ultimately I’ve not eaten as much - yes? Drug doesn’t melt fat, suppresses hunger receptors ( no small thing I do understand ) SO, if I can remain eating as I do currently, without the drug suppressor, I can not put on weight right? I’m not minimising the me taking control of suppression instead of the drug but that’s what it’s going to take right? Mad or naïve I know but previously I clearly wasn’t eating less or I would have lost the weight I’ve achieved taking MJ, this is almost revolutionary. Just reading other threads said overwhelmingly evidence that once you stop weight will go on? But if I keep doing what I’m doing now (easier said than done obvs) I will be ok? Or have I misunderstood and it’s more than ‘just’ hunger suppression drug, is it changing how you absorb sugar/fat?
Feeling worried, thought I understood I had lost weight because I’ve eaten less!

I agree it is confusing! MJ does seem to do some other things, and I am not sure I understand how they all interact, but I’m also on the maintenance thread and there are a lot of people who are managing really well having come off MJ.

random223 · 18/05/2025 11:13

Weekly weigh-in for me
SW 14 st
CW 10 st 10
First GW 10st 3

1lb off this week. Very pleased to be off the 11st plateau/set point. Looking at my BMR, which is only 1200 calories, I think I should be pleased with a pound a week. It does still feel like a long way to go though.

Interesting conversation about whether MJ just affects appetite - I am not sure. I think there is something about fat itself being biochemically active. I definitely struggled to lose weight before even in a calorie deficit. Hopefully maintaining might be better if at a normal weight. I think I will be on MJ longterm.

phyllidafosset · 18/05/2025 11:14

So lovely ladies, a little maintenance update. So far things are not really going as I had imagined, but in a good way! I reported my slight weight increase…I am hungrier on 2.5mg but it isn’t awful. There is more food noise, and I need to try to manage it a little better. I’m not sure when I should eat and when I shouldn’t. BUT the surprise this week was that not only did my weight go back down to stopping levels, it actually dipped below that!?! Only by 0.6lbs, but I am very surprised/pleased to see the downward motion. I am not looking to maintain that, and think it means I need to eat a little more. But it isn’t the instant pile back on the weight I was scared of.

I am scared but I think I am going to stop after this first month of 2.5mg. I haven’t really been buying clothes, and I did decide that all the money that was going on MJ can go on clothes 🤣 Honestly, I have been thinking about waiting because I thought my weight might go up a bit again. Not really the right attitude. But I’m going to keep going and see if my gym habits and HOPEFULLY long term taste changes will make a difference. 🤞🤞🤞

Oceangrey · 18/05/2025 12:02

Checking in, continuing to lose slowly... I have a big event next weekend and thought I'd conservatively be in the high 10s but I'm still above that. But hey it's fine, I've had to massively take in the dress I'm wearing for it.

I haven't been doing much exercise but this morning I did a weights workout and then persuaded my kids to come for a jog/scooter in the park with me, so I'm feeling better now, definitely a mood booster.

I'm at a conference all next week so there will be many three course dinners, will manage my expectations on any loss! Have tried to order salads and fish options where possible rather than steak, potatoes and sticky toffee pudding!

I'm 5'3
SW 13st 3lb
CW 11st 2lb
GW - unsure, will see how I feel at another stone down and into the 'healthy' BMI range, have never been lower than that as an adult.

TeenLifeMum · 18/05/2025 12:20

I’ve ordered one more pen of 10mg then thinking I’ll move to maintenance. Might go for 2.5mg then stop completely - I’ll speak to the online dr for advice. I seem stuck at 10st 4 but I’m not unhappy and maybe that’s just my comfortable healthy weight.

Just back from a 6km kayak up the river. Time to sit in the garden with a book.

MsRumpole · 18/05/2025 15:01

Just been reading a thread that really made sense to me, in the sense that I have been there and really understand how tired she is of the struggle.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/amibeingunreasonable/5337296-ive-lost-52-pounds-but-im-just-kinda-over-it-now?reply=144372787

That's exactly the point where I started to struggle on every weight loss attempt I have ever tried other than MJ.

I'm not going to comment - there's no point, is there? But that's the bit most people can't sustain long term and it just makes me really sad that so many people expect us to have that kind of struggle around food daily, if not hourly.

Page 2 | I’ve lost 52 pounds but I’m just kinda over it now | Mumsnet

It’s taken almost a year. Lost it via diet changes- minimal carbs, no snacking, no takeaways, minimal wine etc. But I’m just so over it. I’m just at...

I saw that thread MsR & had the exact same thoughts. Our bodies have been handed to us by evolutionary processes, the suffering and survival of our ancestors and now we have a dramatically changed environment for which we are not so well adapted 😩

BagQueenBee · 18/05/2025 17:34

Just a quick update from me…

SW 28st 1lb
CW 23st 12lb
Total loss so far 59lb…. Can’t believe that.
Loss this week 2lb

Still on 5mg pens and will continue until need to go up.
Really good suppression, in fact I have same suppression regardless of jab day, which from what I have read other people have less suppression closer to jab day… but I know it effect us all differently.

A collegue asked me this week - Wow you have lost some weight, what have you been doing? It shocked me a bit as out of the blue, I just said oh changed my diet and learning to swim etc…. Just not getting into sharing WLJ info. First time anyone has mentioned my weight loss, but I know some people don’t like to ask.

Hope everyone is doing ok and have a great week x

I’ve just read the thread and someone has told her to go on MJ as losing weight on it is no effort at all!!!

So thinking of buying this to see if it gives me the kick up the butt/motivation I feel I need.

Yes, @lovealongbath I read it a couple of weeks ago.
On the whole I would recommend it; It would certainly have been invaluable before starting WLI's as it explains what they are, the possible side effects, benefits, drawbacks and all the important factors about eating lots of protein, exercising and everything one should do while using weight loss medication.

One criticism I have of the book is that as a conclusion, he does push the Mosely Fast 800 diet, saying that rapid weight loss can be a good thing. I think that is because he is a specialist in diabetes and has type 2 diabetes at the front of his mind (and it is possible to reverse type 2 diabetes on the fast 800 diet). Also, the fast 800 and the recipe books are a bit of a family business. All other diet specialists recommend that a steady weight loss of 1.5/2lb a week is healthier than rapid weight loss.
I could be biased agains this aspect of the book though as I do not count calories, and I am losing weight really well without doing so. (also 800 is soooo low to keep to long term, for those who have a lot to lose)

I think the book could be useful to give you encouragement and support. He certainly explains things well and goes into the science as to why we should be making all the right changes while on MJ, and he explains clearly what those changes should be.

More importantly though, in what way do you think you have lost your way? can we help?

Pumpkinforever · 18/05/2025 20:38

I still have a couple of Singapore Sling glasses from our trip to Singapore Raffles hotel in the late 90s 🤭

impressed with the bacon naan - Mr M is well trained @Mounjaropen

botox is a consideration here @Goldleafcat You will have to post full details at some stage

another loss so well done @random223

bet the kayak was great fun @TeenLifeMum that’s something I want to have a go at as I get slimmer and can squeeze into a wet suit without looking like Michelin Woman

only my husband and daughter know @BagQueenBee and congrats on the loss

I read ultra processed people by Chris Van Tullekin which I picked up cheap in a local charity shop. It kept me going through a long period of very little loss.

I would agree with CVT recommendation it's a great book - he's also really good talking about ultra processed foods on loads of podcasts if that's more your thing.
The downside is my teenagers now tell me they like emulsifiers & want to eat them because I've talked about it too much 🙄😂

TeenLifeMum · 18/05/2025 22:56

@Pumpkinforever no wet suits here - shorts and a Tshirt with waterproof shoes. Last summer we met up with friends and the men used the 2 man kayak and friend and I used friend’s 3 man one due to my weight. Dh and I couldn’t use the 2 man together, only by a couple of lbs but didn’t want to risk it over the max weight. Now I’m 2st 5lbs lighter and dh 1st lighter and we can go together in the 2 man. (Plus a dog)

Morning

Great to hear some good news from some and sending grit and determination to others.
Im a good 1.5kg down this week. Solidly into the 80s, which I believe means I’m into the 13s in stone which I’ve not seen since my 20s.
My first week on 10mg was interesting. Tuesday and Wednesday suppression through the roof, like week one levels. Wednesday I managed a few bites of salad at lunch, after work I had an ice lolly, nothing fancy a 64calorie supermarket strawberry lolly. Brought it up, along with my lunch a few hours later.
But then little to no side effects the rest of the week. I was starving on Thursday, understandable after 2 days of little to no food. Food noise remained low but suppression eased and Sunday I didn’t have much self control at all and may have eaten several toffees.
