Welcome to thread 10 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we’ve successfully navigated Easter and head towards Summer Holiday Season. Stop here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W25 D1 and on my second 7.5mg pen

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 9lbs
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 44lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

@lovealongbath I was determined I wouldn’t let them win. I’ve worked too hard to get where I am! Moving organisation would have meant a big commute. It was a very lonely time. I now trust no one, which is sad but is what it is. Dh remains my cheerleader and I adore him for standing by me at my worst.

Everyone has their story of how they got to where they are in terms of weight. I can lose weight but Emily will always be a two faced bitch.

Oh yes. My Covid 'lie in' was quickly trumped by his own bout (more serious than mine, obvs). He also forgot all of the times I organised my meetings around assemblies, parents evenings, school performances, school fetes, school trip chaperoning etc etc etc. It IS possible to do it all, but only if you WANT to. In the main, Dads don't see the importance of being selected for the Netball team or Orchestra/whatever and if you came from a family where it didn't matter either, where is the harm? Unless your kid is the only one in the class with no Mummy at the Mother's Day assembly... funny how Dad's aren't required to put a meeting in bloody Paris on hold until after you can get there having attended the Mother's Day assembly because... Dad's would just phone the school and explain it is unreasonable....(which it is obvs). All conveniently forgotten now of course.

And yes, the 'family' dog (the one I said would be a massive pain in the arse whenever we wanted to go away at the drop of a hat) has of course solely become my problem...🤔At least the Dog understands me I guess😂

Ha! Yes with teenagers in the house the dogs are at least a guaranteed source of affection (without strings!) 😂

@TeenLifeMum @lovealongbath well done for getting through the other side. Workplace bullying stays with you so long. I think it’s the sheer shock to begin with that adults can behave that way.
I left a job after I was crying in the shower before work and realised how much it was affecting me. And I’m sure there was much comfort eating along the way.

TeenLifeMum · 06/05/2025 23:28

Maybe my difference is that up to 2022 I was running, did a half marathon in 2020 but then 5-10ks 2-3 times a week and ate well, then my world went upside down summer 2022. Sounds dramatic I know but I truly loved my job, was well respected by exec team etc and then my organisation changed. All execs gone, my director gone, new director and team from merging company took over and bullied me horrendously. My qualifications and experience suddenly meant nothing. There were a couple of nights I was suicidal - never had mh issues ever up to that point. My husband was my rock, my dc pulled me through. “They” did what they could to break me but I refused to allow them to ruin the career I built. I kept my dignity and, it’s taken 3 years but I’ve proven myself. Dh pointed out throughout, they have nothing. If they truly believed I wasn’t competent they’d have used performance management to get rid. They couldn’t; I’m good at my job. I dug deep, showed up to work, crying on my drive in (I’m not a crier) but I also, alongside this, completed a masters level qualification at a Russell group uni (despite their constant digs about it being above me I got a distinction - last November, a piece of paper that proves I’m good enough and more qualified than the bullies - indisputable proof).

Now, during that time I comfort ate EVERYTHING!

Things are now improved. The team I manage are awesome and my cheerleaders. They witnessed it all and have confirmed my paranoia was justified. They do not let anyone badmouth me because I’m a good manager. I don’t mean that with arrogance. I care about my team, I push them to be the best they can for them, I believe in them, I want them to want to be in my team and know I have their back. They values they previously tolerated and thought were normal are gone. They are respected and valued.

Sorry that’s very long but that’s my story of how, in November 2024 I finally felt happy with who I am with paper evidence and a team who’ll sing my praises. That’s when I started mj because I wanted to get back to the me I was before the hurt.

FYI - I still work very hard but… between the hours of 9 and 5. Outside of that it’s 100% my family’s time and I take lunch breaks.

I guess, in short, I’m hoping that the damage I did was due to a very specific set of circumstances and outside of that I hope I can manage my weight once it’s back to pre career catastrophe.

apologies for epic post - quite cathartic though.

Edited

Oh wow. What an awful thing to have experienced. I’m so sorry you went through that. And to complete your masters alongside it all - what an epic achievement. You are clearly very strong and determined. I’m so glad things are so much better at work, although I know you have other stresses.

with your levels of determination I’m sure you can achieve anything 💪🏼👏

Cantbesure · 07/05/2025 09:33

Wednesday Definitely seems to be the lightest day of the week for me. Currently at BMI 23.6. I need to find my tape measure as I can feel I’m so much more toned around my waist. My scales have my muscle percentage in the ‘excellent’ bracket at 67.8 although my bingo wings disagree!! However my scales have categorised my body shape as ‘fat muscle’ which seems pretty rude 😱

Signing up for a 10K with friends in August. I have previously said I wouldn’t go for more than 5k but I’m easily led 😂

SerenePeer · 07/05/2025 10:10

Goodness @teenlifemum what an awful thing to go through. Well done you for jot only getting through it, but getting your team through it too. You are a bloody awesome manager for doing that.

I agree @Mounjaropen it's usually the insecure dipshits that are the bullies. Mine were middle-aged men who wrote me off when I was on maternity leave and made my life miserable when I returned. I ended up leaving for a better job and the company eventually failed. Absolute twats.

For anyone else with static weight, mine is still stuck too, so solidarity skinny stuck jabber! Let's just keep on keeping on though. This set point will not beat us!

TeenLifeMum · 07/05/2025 11:19

Thank you @SerenePeer my team are very grateful which helps. Our team culture has transformed and I do get credit for that from my team… Director seems to believe it just all magically happened, perhaps due to his “amazing” leadership 😂🙈

MagnoliaTreePetals · 07/05/2025 13:42

Thank you very much for the Times article Mounjaropen. Very interesting and all sensible points for losing weight while on WLI's in a way that is sustainable, especially when we have moved onto maintaining.

IHateMozzies · 08/05/2025 00:04

My losses have been very slow the last few weeks. Scales are playing up as well today which didn’t help!

My friend who works in a dentist was telling me every 2nd patient is updating their medical info with taking mounjaro! I of course am just on a diet 😜

lovealongbath · 08/05/2025 07:03

Morning everyone,

Weekly weigh in on 2.5 dose..
jab number 2 4
SW 18st 4
CW 15 stone 7.1 lbs
1lb GAIN this week
total loss so far 2 stone 10.9 lbs
I have lost 15% of my starting weight
SBMI 43
CBMI 37
Achievements this week ….
my steps this week have gone down to approx 56000 steps 😟
however, I have cycled approx 20 miles 🚲 😊

After discussion with MedExpress, I went down from 3.5mg to 2.5mg as I had a rash
for 11 days which was unsightly and had a terrible itch. Today, the rash has gone but my skin is very dry where the rash was and thankfully the itch has gone as well.
Last week, the grandchildren arrived for a week stay. This has meant sweets and treats and I simply didn’t have the will power, stamina or focus to avoid which has resulted in a 1lb gain this week. This is the first time in almost 6 months I have gained weight but i am going to up to 3mg today and the grandkids leave tomorrow so no excuses next week!

Today we have a lunch planned at a local buffet restaurant so I have decided to enjoy this and inject this evening.

Final note, I am really struggling getting clothes that fit. My wardrobe consists of clothes that went over large bust 42HH and I couldn’t see under it so that didn’t matter. Because all my weight loss so far appears to be off bust, back and face, not a lot off middle, size 24+ is ridiculously too big over bust and shoulders but fits comfortably over middle. Size 20 fits beautifully over bust and shoulders but ridiculously tight over middle. 😵‍💫

Well done to everyone on the great losses and to those that have reached maintenance stage, we can do this 💪

StarShapedWindow · 08/05/2025 07:37

Mounjaropen · 06/05/2025 11:03

👏Well done!

I've had a salutary lesson in not eating and drinking whatever I fancy over the long weekend with zero meaningful exercise... Weighed 144.2 on Sunday morning... weigh 148.0lbs this morning....😥 Although much fun was had, I am annoyed with myself that this week will be spent chasing down what I had already achieved last week and that will not help me achieve my goal of getting to the 9's by my big fat greek holiday!

Lesson to self - you don't need umpteen glasses of wine!

I find the problem is once I’ve had 2 glasses I loose the good sense to stop and go on to have another 2 and maybe another 2 and then I feel awful the next day and regret it. I’ve got a wedding on Friday and I’m determined not to have more than 3 glasses.

To anyone on here who is/has been a slim version of themselves do you always have a few wobbly bits which you tone with exercise or does it mean there’s still weight to loose?

@Goldleafcat sorry about your back - it’s such an awful
pain. I slipped a disk once and actually passed out with the pain - it was the most painful thing that’s ever happened to me and I say that as someone who has broken their big toe and had 2 home births. Sending you lots of healing wishes and I hope they’ve given you some really good painkillers?

I’m also worried about protein, I tried a protein shake but it was so sweet and disgusting I couldn’t drink it. I’m eating chicken breast and I’m going to buy some Greek yoghurt and I’ll try having a few eggs every day too. It’s amazing how little protein the stuff I enjoy contains!

evilharpy · 08/05/2025 07:52

@StarShapedWindow I have been slim, and I have also briefly been the weight I am now (which is about a stone over top end of healthy BMI). I had never been the weight I waa in November when I started MJ. When I was previously this weight it was as a result of rapid weight gain due to injury when I was very fit and I still had a lot of muscle tone, I'm sure I was smaller then at the same weight and definitely more toned. Now I am definitely baggier around the middle and thighs and my arms are bigger and completely untoned - it's obviously just extra fat. I am back into exercise now and have turned to my old favourite kettlebells which used to keep me in great shape. Hoping if I work hard now, I'll be a bit less saggy by the time I get to my goal weight although I think I may still have some (minor) loose skin.

evilharpy · 08/05/2025 07:55

I am 5lbs down since Sunday after that funny spike I had put down to water retention, I must have been right. So it's not a true loss but still a relief to see it off the scales again.

StarShapedWindow · 08/05/2025 08:00

@evilharpy Congratulations on losing the five pounds 🎉

Thanks so much for your reply - I think I’ll have to start exercising and hopefully I’ll tone up. Sounds like you’ve been extremely fit and I expect your body will remember and respond. Unlike @Mounjaropen I joined Pvolve and did nothing! I’ve been guiltily reading her amazing exercise progress whilst not doing a single lesson myself!

managed to do over 10k steps every day last week and have been mostly good on the diet but I did have a couple of naughty meals (pasta bake and garlic bread) and pork belly on a meal out. But I did manage to rein back in for a loss this week (think it was hormone assisted too 😂)

does anyone else really struggle eating out? I find it hard to make the right choices.

have lost a lot of hair (it was super thick before). So am really focusing on my protein intake. am worried that if it comes back it will alll be grey 😂 I’ve been greying naturally but at mid 40s I might hit the bottle if the process accelerates.

I have been trying to walk after my evening meal to reduce insulin spikes which has made me feel less exhausted and has helped my sleep.

How funny, I was at the Dentist yesterday. It’s the sort of dentist that offers aesthetics etc and he was asking me ALL about it. He said “it’s a tricky line to balance noticing someone has lost so much weight but you seem so happy and positive about it” 🥰

And yes, I’d wager half the practice patients where I am are definitely on it 😂

Sorry to hear about your rash. It really is the luck of the draw if you get side-effects like this, so you do have my sympathies. I think it’s perfectly acceptable to relax a bit when you have the joy of grandchildren around. You also do not want to Create disordered eating in young people so cut yourself some slack.

Clothes shopping is always going to be tricky until the point you are at your settled weight I think? Keep going you will find something that fits in the most unexpected of places (Sainsbury’s springs to Mind!)

Back to the grind after today and up those steps for the week 💪🏻

Yep, I have absolutely zero stop sign when it comes to booze! I just love wine 🤣. We have a VE day beacon lighting in our little village tonight and that is usually quite a raucous gathering of neighbours involving picnic blankets, dogs, poncey snacks and much wine!

in terms of toning, I am convinced it’s because I have more weight to lose. I’m definitely not at my lowest ever weight and I have a ton of wobbly bits that I never used to have! As a trainer once pointed out to me it is impossible to “target “any specific area of the body to lose weight, and I assume it’s the same for toning. However, I have definitely noticed a positive change in my arm shape since using the heavyweights program on Pvolve. My thighs and my tummy remain the issue but I do think they must come a point at which after the last amount of fat is gone that the sagging will look better? 🤞🏻

Well done for this week and getting the steps in! 👏👏👏

I did plan to get on the treadmill before bed yesterday as DH was away and I wanted a really good nights sleep but I got sucked into some footballers wives reality tv nonsense on Prime whilst ironing so watched that and fake tanned instead 😂 (I did do a 40 min Pvolve and plated tennis for 2 hours earlier in the day so not all bad)

I don’t really eat differently eating out to the food at home tbh. I’m a bit of a foodie so love cooking and choose similar when I’m out. Last weekend DH and I actually shared an Arnold bennett soufflé starter at the Savoy as we both recognised we wouldn’t be able to eat our mains if we had one each. We also shared a tart tatin but I haven’t really eaten much pudding since I started the MJ journey tbh. I haven’t had much of a hankering for chip shop chips (I used to crave them) or chips in general either which is weird. Pasta is not really my go to unless I’m at a real Italian. What do you crave when you’re out, and why do you think it is the ‘wrong’ choice?

Hair loss will be a thing for any weight loss, just try and not worry too much and focus on your protein intake as best you can.

Today’s dinner in case it is inspiration for a protein based dinner. I’ve bought wholewheat cous cous. I’ll have a spoonful of the cous cous but will mainly have a breast /wing of the whole chicken with a rocket salad. Roasting a whole chicken at the start of the day means I don’t have to think about DH’s dinner as chicken is better and well rested and he can have it later after And I can have mine in the middle of the day as I prefer.

1. Spiced chicken and couscous
Serve with pitta bread and salad.
Serves 4-6
Ingredients
• 1.8kg chicken

• 30g butter, softened
• 1 tsp ground cumin
• 1 tsp ground coriander
• 1 tsp smoked paprika
• 1 tsp chilli powder
• 1 tsp ground cinnamon
• 1 lemon, halved
• Salt and freshly ground black pepper
• 400g tin chickpeas, drained and patted dry with kitchen roll
• 250g couscous
• 40g sultanas
• 300ml chicken stock
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180C fan/gas 6.
2. Place the chicken in the centre of a large, deep ovenproof dish. Pat dry with kitchen roll.
3. Put the softened butter in a bowl with the spices, then squeeze the juice from half a lemon into the butter and stir until you have a smooth paste. Place the squeezed half lemon in the chicken cavity. Keep the other half for later.
4. Smear half the spiced butter over the top of the chicken, covering the legs, wings and breast and pushing it under the skin. Set aside the rest of the butter. Season the chicken with salt and pepper and roast in the oven for 1 hour.
5. Remove the chicken from the oven. Baste with the fat before discarding the rest. Add the reserved spiced butter to the dish and allow to melt. Pour the chickpeas around the chicken, season with salt and give them a good stir until they're coated in spices.
6. Return the dish to the oven for another 40 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and the juices run clear. If the skin starts to burn, cover it loosely in foil.
7. Remove the chicken from the dish and carefully pour off all but a drizzle of the fat. Stir in the couscous, sultanas, juice from the reserved lemon half and the stock. Season with salt and pepper and give it a good stir. Leave to stand for 5 minutes.
8. Once the couscous has absorbed most of the stock, give it a stir and place the chicken on top. Cover the whole thing in foil and leave to rest for 15 minutes before carving the chicken.
