Welcome to thread 10 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we’ve successfully navigated Easter and head towards Summer Holiday Season. Stop here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W25 D1 and on my second 7.5mg pen

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 9lbs
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 44lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Having lost most of my excess weight and now have my anaemia under control I am going in for my hip replacement on Wednesday. I've been immobile for 14 months. After this I should gradually be able to get my mobility back and my life back. I don't think I'd ever have sorted my weight out if I hadn't been in this position.
Happy days.

All the best for Wednesday

SerenePeer · 04/05/2025 16:21

Yup. You're my body twin! @indigohexagon. Apple here too with a belly that used to enter the room first and regularly cause people to offer me a seat on the train 😳 (except when I actually was pregnant!).

Do you have a goal weight?

SerenePeer · 04/05/2025 20:25

First proper check in to this thread (other than some questions for DW - thanks @Mounjaropen for the skin advice!) and it's almost half way to full!

W25 D7 (jabbing tonight) - 4th week in maintenance
Dropped from 9mg to 7.5mg for first 3 weeks and then 6mg this last week. Will stick with this again today.

Holding steady around target 10st 6 - 10st 9 ish (BMI 22.25 - 22.75). Would love another inch or two off my waist measurement but am looking to exercise for this now - need to put some muscle back on and hopefully some weight training can tighten up my belly a little in the process.

Maintenance is weird! Losing was easy in terms of food strategy - no breakfast, a bit of soup or some other healthy snack for lunch and a sensible healthy evening meal, maybe indulge a bit at the weekend. I knew exactly what to aim for. Now, I'm trying to eat a bit more to maintain, but keep panicking that I'm going to somehow wreck the progress I've made. Very easy to excuse bad choices - a bit like when I've lost a bit in the past and thought 'oh, I'm in a good place now, i can have a bit of this or that'......slippery slope.

I'm sure it'll all settle out with good new habits, and it's nice to eat a little more now as the suppression wears off each week. The MJ continues to make a big difference and I am confident practice will make perfect.

Sorry - sounds a little whingy but I am so super pleased with having got to where I am.

NSV - went in to Charles Tyrwhitt for some new work shirts and the lady serving asked if I knew my measurements. I said I thought I was a 15" neck (down a bit from before) but was unsure of the rest. She took my sleeve measurement then looked me up and down and said "....and I think you are definitely an extra slim fit, try this....". I could have popped. Definitely vanity sizing in there, but I mean - extra slim fit! And it did fit!

Edited

Oh bravo! Great news - slim fit@ whoop whoop!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/05/2025 19:02

Well done, @MounjNewb! Extra slim fit - go you! V interested in how maintenance goes for us all, so please keep updating. I’m not there just yet but maybe in a month or so.

Anyone else suffering from dizziness? I’ve been lightheaded on and off all day, got down to look for something under the bed and went really dizzy. I jabbed today anyway and the dizziness started before the jab, so it’s not a direct result. I do have quite low blood pressure as a rule, although I’ve not had it checked since before starting MJ.

In other news, I’ve finally dusted off my weights again and made a start. Using very low weights because it always takes me a while to ease back into good form. I’ve done two videos now and apparently I have entirely forgotten how to do lunges properly/effectively/without wobbling like crazy, and this video was asking for Bulgarian lunges with one foot on the sofa. I managed about two and decided I was going to hurt myself so went back to normal lunges with both feet on the floor (and put the weight down and just used bodyweight). Still, it’s better than nothing!

Well done on the weights! Those muscles will be popping before you know it.

Not yet...I initially just wanted to get to 85kg because that was the last time I successfully lost weight. But when I sailed past 85kg with ease, I readjusted to 75kg. However, it's still just in the overweight category so I think I'll aim for something lower...maybe around 72kg. 70kg would be 11 stone exactly i think but not sure i could get that low. What about you @indigohexagon?

W26 D7 - I can’t remember if I checked in at the beginning of this week, and I know I won’t have time tomorrow, so thought I would jump on today to make up for it

S/W 16st 7
C/W 10st 9
G/W 10st 10

I dropped back down to 2.5mg on Monday, taking a half dose of my (last, hopefully) 5mg pen. I’ve still felt a great deal of appetite suppression which is great, I was worried I’d immediately have all the food noise and hunger flooding back so it’s a relief that didn’t happen. I know it’s still early days but I’m hoping to make this pen last (I know it says use within 30 days, but I’m going to risk it for longer, but I know that not everyone’s comfortable with that)

Where the weather has been so nice this week, I’ve been in shorts (shock, horror!!!) and have had a lot of comments from the school mums about how much weight I’ve lost. As much as I know they have all (bar a couple of the gossipy ones) said it from a good place and meant it as a compliment, I have found it almost embarrassing and awkward. Everyone is asking for the ‘secret’, but I don’t want to be the topic of conversation, I know how controversial some people find our death jabs. However, It’s a lovely feeling throwing summer clothes on and not having to worry about ‘chub rub’ or hiding flab!

I hope everyone’s been enjoying the sunshine, and their extra slim fit clothes, lovely lunches, and all the other positives we’ve earnt ourselves! A happy, slimmer, Bank Holiday weekend to you all!

What a phenomenal result you've had! I'm so glad to hear the food noise hasn't come rushing back- long may that last 🥳 Totally get the embarrassment - I've felt the same and don't want to tell people about the jabs either. And we don't have to. It's nobody's business. Enjoy those summer clothes!

My weight has been up and down all week and I’m ending the week where I started it. Which is annoying when I was 2.5lbs lighter mid week. But I have been out for food and drinks a few times so it’s to be expected.

NSVs this week - i ran my first parkrun for 5 years on Saturday and my step count has been thru the roof this week. Got some size 10 linen trousers from Vinted which are falling down loose so need to see if I can take them in at all. Got involved in official photos for a building opening and didn’t have to panic about being fat. Oh and all my scale markers are green, including my biological age - finally!!!

I seem to have gained 3lbs since Thursday! And 2lbs since my last official weigh in last Sunday. Assuming it must be water retention but it's annoying.

Keep going! It’ll resolve itself over the week 💪

I had dizziness and had developed something called ‘Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo’ which are crystals that form and get stuck in the inner ear. My issue was dizziness in a side plane (lying down on my side to sitting up)not straight up and down. Have you taken your BP sitting down then again straight after standing up? That’s what the GP did to eliminate low BP being the cause.

Great news on the weights front! 💪💪💪

@MounjNewb I totally know what you mean about maintenance being weird! Like you, I knew what my strategy was for weight loss (was similar to yours!). But I’m really struggling to work out what I can allow back in and what I shouldn’t, and all mixed with a huge fear that it will all go back on!!

@WellyBootsandPuddleSuits that is really good to know about the 2.5mg. I took the first maintenance jab from my 2.5mg pen last night. I am just hoping I can get the balance right.

The very weird thing about my journey towards maintaining is that I have been allowing myself to eat a few things I wouldn’t. I had a small cinema popcorn yesterday AND two chocolate biscuits, which felt like I was throwing everything out the window (although before MJ I could have had a large popcorn and a whole pack of biscuits). But this morning my weight was down!?!

I know everyone says weight loss isn’t linear, but I am still baffled. I will take it though. I am below my original goal weight, which I didn’t think I would get to. I decided my adjusted goal weight wasn’t needed, so I planned to maintain without getting there. But today I am almost there. It will be my cushion!

@Cantbesure I totally get that up and down thing. I had that SO often! I just decided my new weigh-in day would be a Wednesday (I jab on Sunday or Monday), because that was then my weight was lowest. I got used to ignoring the upward tick because it always went down again, eventually 😁

So, I am going to share one non-weight win - I was able to do a cartwheel again 🤣 I did gymnastics as a kid (and tumbling in my 20s) and about 10 years ago I did a cartwheel in the park for my children (also was when my weight was much lower). They didn’t think I could do one 🤣 They were stunned to see a cartwheeling mummy. I have been feeling both lighter and stronger so gave it a go and succeeded without injury 😁 @Mounjaropen still no chance I can do a side plank!! I can barely do a normal plank).

I know what you mean about that awkwardness of complements, because it doesn’t always feel like it is kindly meant!

Although, when it is and the question of how feels genuine, I do tell the truth. I have a good friend who was asking about how I had lost the weight. She has struggled with weight management too, and I told her (she has now started and is thrilled). We were talking and she said how when she had talked to the doctors about weight, the only thing they ever said was eat less and exercise more, which always left her feeling depressed because it felt like it was her failure. She did comment to me how grateful she was I hadn’t pretended it was only down to my new gym habit. But I trust her, and I know she isn’t a judgy gossiper. With her, I was glad to share. I wouldn’t have told her had she not asked though. There are other people I wouldn’t tell because I think they would judge. So many people struggle with the need to be superior!

Thank you @Goldleafcat. I've ordered 3 different lots of protein powder on the tenner tuesday. I'd forgotton about the tuesday deals. that should up the protein intake nicely.

I need to go bra shopping on friday. My bras are very empty and sad looking. I sorted them all out last night and I'm putting them up in the loft. (just in case, there's too much money spent on them if I ver need the bigger size again) Any tips on where to go for cheapish everyday bras please? I will need to try them on because I've no idea what size I am now. I was a 32F but looking more like a B cup now.

Your back size has probably gone down too. You should maybe go and get properly fitted? My suggestion is NOT M&S. in my experience they are AWFUL. Even if you don’t want to get bras there, I think John Lewis or Bravissimo are much better. Years ago, I used to wear a 32, but properly fitted it turned out I was a 28. Pre weight loss I was 32, after I’m 30. Have fun shopping 😊

Feeling quite sorry for myself, my bad has been getting worse since Friday and it’s now pretty dreadful. Seems to be a combo of lower back pain and sciatica (pain running down the leg but the lower back is the worst). Managed to get out for a bit yesterday in the sun at a National Trust place but could barely walk by the end of it. Remembered this morning that I have some private medical coverage which supports back problems so am going to ring them tomorrow. Have made notes of all my recent episodes and it’s definitely getting more frequent.

Am due to jab today but not sure whether I’m brave enough with everything else going on!

I’m so sorry to hear your back has been so bad. It is bloody miserable having a bad back, and so debilitating. DH has had back issues (ceased up once, and sciatica) both times he went to a chiropractor who was a huge help. The other thing was that it wasn’t many sessions that were needed. He did a handful, with some exercises in between.

I hope it eases (and then vanishes) soon.

I would say keep going with the jab. It can just keep doing what it does, and even if you aren’t on the weight loss because you are rightly focusing on easing your pain, the jab will still be helpful in the background.

Thank you. It’s the debilitating factor that’s the worst. If I could just grit my teeth and carry on that’s one thing but when you can’t stand up / sit down or walk it’s a bit of a nightmare! I’ve taken your excellent and sensible advice and have now jabbed. Who knows maybe the anti inflammatory properties might even help!

That’s very positive to hear about your DH. I hope his back issues are now resolved or well managed.

Another stone off should see me in a healthy BMI and then another one after that will put me bang in the middle of my healthy range. It actually feels very doable thanks to mj although my weight loss is slower than I'd like it's coming off but by bit. I've celebrated hitting 11 stone with a new dress and a 9 mile walk. Treated myself to a small glass of wine to celebrate the bank holiday hike
