Welcome to thread 8 to MN weight loss friends old and new!
Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we Spring forward into a new season...and consider new swimwear and Summer Wardrobes ❤️

I’m on W17 D3 and on my fourth 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 6.4 lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 32.6lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.
Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I am 100% with you. I have been thinking so many of these thoughts. I will have to totally change the way I have lived my life. My challenge is saying no to sugar. I have no problem on days 2-5 but days 6 and 7 are a challenge. I am anxious about how I can shift my whole diet, not least because I don’t know how it will work with my family. I want to stay this weight (actually, I want to drop to my goal weight, and stay there).

You seem to have huge resolve, which helps to keep you strong. I fall off my mini wagon and then feel really frustrated with myself, and self-sabotage. That is also my worry.

I think being mindful 5 days out of 7 is more realistic for me. All work and no play and all that! I just need to be careful that 2 days doesn’t turn into 3 and before I know it, I’m 14 stone again…😭😭😭😭 .last time I lost this amount of weight I said to DH “never let me get this fat again” but the reality was I was very defensive if he ever brought the subject up. Both of us could see I was unhappy but I think I didn’t value myself enough to put aside enough time or money to do something about it - there was always a violin/piano/tuition lesson to pay for on top of school fees and I prioritised those things first (no regrets, DD is reaping the benefits of all of that investment and earns herself a fair whack bashing out a bit of Coldplay on the violin whilst being a student 😂). Nor did I find an exercise regime that was right for me or that I actually enjoyed which I now have discovered.

I don’t think after this investment in yourself you will self-sabotage. We are all more mindful, and much better informed that our 10/20/30 year old selves. 💪💪💪

I did drag myself to the gym and did some cardio and some weights so I did burn it off. I have been very snacky lately so have just injected with 6.25 will see how I feel and creep up to 7.5

Well done on the exercise! 💪💪💪

It’s been interesting reading about people’s habits that they’ve adopted alongside MJ. @Mounjaropen I am similar to you in that I’ve mostly done OMAD in the week but at weekends eat more normally as I’m around DD more to whom I wouldn’t want to show that I don’t eat three square meals a day….
I am also thinking long and hard about after MJ now as I’m in size 10 or 12 clothing and with prob only another half stone to lose. I’m thinking OMAD is going to have to be an ongoing thing FOR LIFE eek….If I don’t want to just pile it all back on.
One lovely thing I’ve noticed in the last month is mostly all my wobbly cellulite which I thought would cling to me for life (I’m mid 50s) has miraculously shed off my body. That has made me ridiculously happy.

@itsnotagameshow as a precious slimming world member I'd think nothing of free pouring pasta, rice etc. it actually came as a shock when I measured a 75g portion out!

I'm still eating carbs. I have a slice of sourdough most days with my brunch and I will weigh out pasta and rice. But I'm more more aware of portion size and protein. I'm also not clean eating and will fall back on cup a soups and mug shots when I'm tired.

I've been swimming tonight and as someone who couldn't swim a length I'm quite pleased at my progress. I'm definitely getting stronger (but not faster!) each week.

Well done on the swimming! I’ve never done SW because I couldn’t get my head around the science of it. But you are right 75g is waaay less than you might serve yourself!

Good morning to all the increasingly slender people in my phone!

2lbs off this week, taking me to 14 stone 3 exactly (I also hopped on the old scales for a moment to see 14.2 which was silly but also exciting haha). 32lb loss to date (14.5kg) (almost a 15kg suitcase!)

@Mounjaropen The Pvolve does sound great, I’ve been taking a speculative look at it to consider for the future! I did manage to achieve something vaguely resembling a plank on the reformer machine on Wednesday but only very briefly! It will be quite some time for me to be able to achieve a real one I think. I need to look at my weights again and actually start doing something with them 😅

Quite a few stone to go but l am also starting to think about my long term diet and lifestyle changes needed going forward. Intrigued by OMAD... not sure l could always achieve that, but maybe I need to think about two meals a day.

Well done on the plank! It will take time. I actually achieved a plank which involved lifting legs/knees yesterday without thinking about it. Pvolve is great if you don’t have much time or find it tricky to get childcare etc. you can replicate the effects of the reformer machine using the gliders too. And it is £15pcm (equipment investment aside) so for me, a cost effective way of achieving the same thing.

An 8 hour eating window is much more doable than OMAD so maybe start there?

🥳 for the vanishing cellulite! Add in some fake tan and it’ll be gone 😂

Agree it is tricky with teenage daughters. Mine saw the MJ in the fridge when back from Uni, googled it and assumed her Dad has developed diabetes… so I had to tell her. She’s grown up petit, slim and without food issues so I’ll take that for the win!

Oooh that is fabulous that the cellulite has melted away! I also think 5-6 days of eating healthy and frugally is what 'normal' people do? Then a wee bit of indulgence at the weekend....i believe this is known as 'balance' - a concept that is foreign to most of us pre-mj! 😆

SerenePeer · 07/03/2025 08:43

Finally made it to the gym this morning for the first time this week💪🏻 I've been in such funk this week - and real Debbie downer I was starting to worry it was the mj! I need to stop reading the 'ozempic nightmare' type headlines!

Anyway, I was so sick of feeling so low I wrote myself a list of 'things that bring me joy' and the first thing on the list was sweat! That was all the incentive I needed to get my now skinnier arse up and into the gym for a treadmill session on the Peleton app. 30 minutes of running and weights and I feel like a new woman!

I also tried on some trousers that were always my barometer of how fat/skinny i was. I now fit into them, albeit with some muffin top action. But it made me feel sad for old me who I know has been absolutely devastated at the exact weight and size....my God. I'm still overweight and my BMI is 27.6 but I am 15kg lighter than I was, can wear size 12 jeans and have lost so much fat from my tummy. I'm practically a super model in comparison to November! I used to be so hard on myself and beat myself up mentally for not being a perfect size 10. That makes me sad and I'm vowing here and now to not be that mean to myself again.

IHateMozzies · 07/03/2025 10:26

I started my first 7.5 pen this week but only took 6.25. The tiredness is a killer! I can’t function past 9pm both physically and mentally.

Taking it slow on 5mg. Definitely ready for 7.5 which i will start after Ramadan.

People are finally noticing... and im lying as im not ready to share with people i dont know so well. I guess as the weather is better i have ditched my jacket so its more visible.

I do feel guilty as we all know losing weight is incredibly hard so to tell people ive done it the conventional way feels a bit of a con.

I don't think we have to tell people about the jabs if we don't trust them with this information. We are also counting calories and exercising and making changes to our diet and lifestyle.

Well done on the gym @SerenePeer I aspire to be the sort of person who goes for a run or to the gym before work!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/03/2025 14:50

I have a crashing hangover today. My sister lost her job yesterday so I went round to cheer her up and we got trashed. Going to put off my jab until tomorrow because I feel too rough as it is!

jay55 · 07/03/2025 16:17

Took a flight today, in a little city hopper, and as work had booked it I was in a window seat and couldn't change as flight full. I was stressed about it yesterday.
But I fitted in the seat no problem, seatbelt did up and had to be pulled tight. I was so chuffed at that.
None of me spilling about, no seatbelt extender.

Have a great weekend all.

you are right that strict rules during the week and relaxed rules on the weekend is a better way to go, as long as they are not totally relaxed, and I think keeping the low carb/high protein principle. I am going to keep the two meals a day (the days I lose weight are the days I only have one and a protein shake at the gym). My weight change had been rapid and perimenopause related, but I am very aware the exercise needs to be for life (too), and somehow that feels easier, because I have made a longterm lifestyle change to make it possible.

But I do have a very firm idea of the way I want to grow old, and so I hope that will be an ongoing motivation.

What has been so lovely about this thread is some of the broader advice and support. I haven’t got into my skincare routine yet, but I did see an advert online for Trinny’s Elevator cream - showing an image of the upper chest and I had a moment of OHHH - if it helps that area (too) then I’m getting some. That is all thanks to this thread 😁🤣

I agree @cantbesure it's nobodies business. I felt judged enough when I was obese, I don't need someone judging my method of weightloss too.

As for the gym, my secret is to lay out all my kit the night before in the most annoying place so that it's easier to just put it on rather than put it away! 😂 I also only let myself use the decent shampoo and gorgeous shower gel if I've been to the gym. That way, I start to associate the gym with good hair days and smelling lush!

Exactly! It really works! Your brain soon associates that lovely treat with going to the gym. I started it when I bought my first fancy London gym membership back in my 20s. My husband thought I was insane paying all that money, but I had a plan. I kept my fancy shampoo and shower gel in my gym locker and only had cheap, nasty shampoo at home. Within weeks I was skipping into that gym at 6am, just so I could enjoy my shower after my workout. To this day I can't walk past that gym without feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Whattodowithaminute · 07/03/2025 20:14

Weigh in yesterday
SW 91.4
CW 72.5
GW… was 70 now I think it needs to be lower… 67?? As 70 is bmi 25.

I too, am reflecting re long term sustainability of this. I realise my daily TDEE will be approx 1500 to maintain which is lower than I’m used to (obvs!). I therefore need to drastically increase activity and/OR reduce intake…

evening meal normally 800-900 with DH, I could reduce here but this is quite an important part of relationship, breakfast has been approx 350, lunch therefore needs to be approx. 250.
have been trying to have breakfast so I don’t get extreme hunger and snack when kids get in from school …

ultimately the habits I need to retain for most weeks are:
no snacking
No daily flat whites x 2
no puddings
no croissants
no ham and cheese toasties
no post dinner chocolate
less supplementaries-those extra bits with meals a that are tasty but you don’t really need, spring roll, garlic bread etc
not drinking alcohol every day-and when I do less is fine
avoiding the crisps when hosting
less carbs, more protein
retain reformer 3 x a week

still need to improve my lunches-something easy and tasty which isn’t a sandwich

previously I had success fasting when DH was out for work approx 2 days a week. That then allows to keep the overall in check but reducing weekly intake by approx 1500 cals

but eating less is clearly the winner…

any other people with inspiration…?!

This is really considered post. Identifying your triggers will be absolutely key moving forward to maintenance so it’s really fantastic you’ve thought about what motivates the extra calorie intake.. Post dinner chocolate is also something I’ve knocked on the head. I prep bowls of tropical fruits so I don’t reach for anything else post dinner. Half a pink grapefruit or honeydew melon hits the spot for me.

Lunches - can you prep a salad at home? Take dressing in a pot so you can add it when you are ready and avoid soggy leaves. I freeze smaller portions of leftovers for DH’s lunch so he’s eating food with no additives but smaller than a dinner portion. You could add salad to that to bulk it out and add minimal calories.

Totally missed the new thread!

I haven't lost a single pound for two weeks. It's definitely not because of too many calories. I need to get past this plateau, it's shite :(
