Hope you don't mind me joining. I just ordered my first 5mg pen after three weeks on 2.5mg. I've lost 10lbs so far but am very newly post partum so wouldn't ascribe most of that to mounjaro! Pleased nonetheless. No side effects and reasonably good suppression that wears off come day 5/6.

My goal for 5mg is to meal plan and eat better. With a very tiny baby around the house I'm still eating junk, just less of it. Not sustainable!

mumandgran24 · 20/02/2025 19:56

So took the plunge and did my first injection about 30 mins ago. Was very scared to put the needle in but didn’t feel anything. Nothing like a jab at the drs or blood test that I had convinced myself it would be like. How quickly do people feel the effects? Not sure if I am convincing myself but I was full after my dinner but it had gone off somewhat before my injection and now I feel full again. Maybe it’s mind over matter lol

WLINewbie · 20/02/2025 20:04

Day 6 of week 1

Although I'm still eating plenty (too many adverse health effects not having enough cals) I feel so liberated with the reduced food noise. This is what I've always wanted and no other distraction method ever worked.

Buy maybe I'm now obsessing over what the jag is doing that it's taken over my thoughts! 'People get food suppression so I should have it too'

I'm hoping that I'll start seeing the effects of the gym soon, all this time I think being active had stopped me getting super obese, would be great to look like a gym bunny!

Probablyawake · 20/02/2025 20:07

3rd jab tomorrow. Feeling good, really love not thinking about food. Need to buy less as it's not being eaten!

Are people staying with the same provider for their 2nd prescription? Or shopping around using codes? Does it become complicated changing supplier?

At this point I feel like I will stay on 2.5mg as it seems to be working, and I haven't had any side effects, other than feeling the cold more (or maybe it's just cold!)

ridiculouslyridiculous · 20/02/2025 19:09

Lots of people saying that they need to make sure they are eating enough calories.
Forgive me if I'm being dim - but why?
Surely the less calories you eat, the more you lose?
I had my first injection yesterday and haven't been tracking but haven't eaten much at all.

Losing weight too fast isn't sustainable in the long term usually. It can also lead to a bunch of different health problems and other unpleasant/unwanted side effects.

You'll lose a lot of muscle mass and end up, for lack of a better term, "skinny fat". Hair loss, sagging/loose skin will be worse, brain fog etc. Fast weight loss is also a big factor in developing gallstones and they are horrific. One of the most awful pains ever.

Losing steadily is just ultimately better for your health and wellbeing. You'll learn better habits as well that you're able to maintain.

ThatJoyousHazelDuck · 20/02/2025 20:18

Thought i would share and ask if anyone else has been humbled by their own fridge or cupboards?
My snack drawer also has my pasta and rice in (don't ask me why, it just works). I opened it today to get rice out for dinner and couldn't quite believe that it was almost full. Usually by this time of the week there's a couple of biscuits that nobody likes and a half eaten bag of crisps.
And it's half term so both teenagers home. I guess I was the one eating all the snacks, I've been blaming the teenagers 🤣🤣

0987654321q · 20/02/2025 20:43

Seem mildly suppressed but still ate 3 normal sized meals today. No desire for an afternoon snack though which is different. Quite happy about that as I only want the medication to take that edge off.

The 5th bonus dose (from what I have read) is the left overs as they overfill to allow for priming etc)

Some people have managed to force twist the pen, others have said manufacturers have wised up to this and newer pens it's impossible to do.

You can extract the last dose (0.6 on a syringe) by inserting it into the red seal.

I'm a bit nervous of doing this, but I am going to try as it's perfectly fine to use and within the 30 days of a pen being "open"

@MrsPepperpot79 it's good to read that you preferred this way, when doing your IVF.

So is that bonus dose, 0.6, the same amount as a previous dose? Or is it slightly less?

PerditionCatchMySoul · 20/02/2025 20:54

Anyone have any thoughts about staying on 2.5 mg for another month, possibly never go up any higher? Is there any inherent problem with this? Will my body get used to it and then one dose into a new pen of 2.5 it stops working?!

CarBootQueef · 20/02/2025 21:16

I've just ordered another 2.5mg pen so I'll do my 2nd month on that. I'm almost due my 3rd jab and still getting good suppression. I don't think the focus is to move up every month so much anymore like it was before, I think if you are happy and losing on 2.5mg then stick to it.

OntheTrainX · 20/02/2025 21:26

I’ll stick to 2.5 if I’m still happy after jab 3. It’s working.

But you may be right about acclimatising to it and finding that it loses its “power”. I don’t want to be back in a place where I’m eating four packets of crisps in a row and I don’t think that willpower alone is (yet) enough to stop that behaviour.

Early days, though.

Herefordian · 20/02/2025 21:34

I'm going to order 5mg for my second pen.
My 4th dose of 2.5mg is due in 2 days and suppression definitely wanes by day 5 for me. I caved in today and had a fresh cream cake; it was delicious and I don't feel guilty but I had stomach cramps and diarrhoea within a couple of hours (having previously been very constipated) so that taught me!
So far, the most noticeable positive effects on me are feeling full very quickly and my complete disinterest in alcohol. I've got a big family wedding to go to in April and I'm actually considering offering to drive which will shock everyone so much that I probably won't, for fear of everyone wondering what the hell is wrong with me.

aylis · 20/02/2025 21:38

Hello, sorry if I'm being a bit daft but I don't want to get this wrong. The instructions for the injection say to turn the dose knob until it the -1 icon is in the window and that that is equal to a full 0.6ml dose. I'm a bit puzzled why it's giving an ml dose when everything else is in mg but anyway - I don't find this very clear. If you turn it to -1 is that always equal to one dose no matter the amount you are on?

(Edit: Sorry I do understand that the ml is the dose and the mg is the amount of medication in the dose - it's whether it's always -1 no matter what that I don't find clear)

IzzieadoraDuncan · 20/02/2025 22:07

Day 6, thought it was day 7 so by mistake, did my 2nd 2.5mg jab. Hope no side effects 😬

Day 3 had absolutely no appetite for evening meal other than a tiny bit of meat and veg. As a result had to get up 4 x in the night due to needing a wee. (must eat a bit more)

Food noise has gone, slight headache at times (need to drink more)...loss after 6 days 4.5lbs.

Not sure when to take jab 3 next week. Hoping I can get to day 8 to get back on track without wanting to stuff my face.

LollyWillow · 20/02/2025 13:14

Hi everyone, I'm on day 3 of week 1.
In the past I have lost weight through very low carb diets and want to avoid that this time, and reduce but not exclude carbs, while being more careful with portion size and calories. I think I need to use a calorie tracker for the first few weeks - is anybody using an app for this? Which would you recommend (I almost always cook from scratch so I'm struggling to find one that's easy to use)

I use nutracheck - there is a charge for it but its about £28 for a year which is think is worth it - there's a recipie builder in there which is great

Feb2025start · 20/02/2025 22:12

@aylis yep, it's always 0.6ml, the mg figure is how concentrated the active ingredient is (like weak/diluted vs strong squash!)

Housewife2010 · 20/02/2025 22:22

I'm on day 2 of week 3. I was 2 oz off 9lbs this morning. I've been fortunate that the only downside I have had is a little constipation. I've had great suppression from the beginning. I just love the lack of hunger and of food noise. It feels so freeing to not have the ongoing food obsession in my head any more. I'm eating lightly and making sure that I focus more on fruit/vegetables and protein. Pre MJ I could gorge on potatoes and cheese until I felt bloated and uncomfortable. Now I don't want to. I would love to feel this way forever. I'm still enjoying food, but can refuse it or be happy with smaller portions. I've always been a big water drinker so I'm happy to drink even more. I'm just so happy that I started using MJ and it's all thanks to MN and all the knowledge and support on these threads.

Totally. I'm not getting through the food shop I did on Monday and the "kids snacks" are untouched. It's nothing short of a miracle that the caramel wafers have survived the week.

Feb2025start · 20/02/2025 22:24

Went to a hot yoga class this evening which was a big thing for me! I used to be really into hot yoga (if consistently rubbish at it as well 😆) 7/8 years ago, when I was overweight (have always been a bit) but not massive. Then life crap happened and I piled on the weight, and just couldn't face feeling like 'the fat one' in the class, with all my flab and blobby bits on show (especially wearing vest and shorts with a bright red face and dripping sweat 😅 ).

Finally plucked up my courage to go back and I feel AMAZING! Yes I'm still overweight but I didn't feel noticeably larger/saggier/blobbier than anyone else. I actually can't believe how much of an impact MJ has had in just a few weeks! Good luck and positive vibes everyone 🤗

mysparkleismissing · 20/02/2025 22:33

So end of week 2 for me today - it's jab day tomorrow... feeling pretty good - averaging about 1200-1400 calories a day, still not enough protien/fibre - Grrrrr

BUT (i need some advice please)

I jab in the evening (i could do it at 630am but unlikely) and am out for a curry tomorrow night and also intend to have an alcoholic drink (or 2)

I'm out for my birthday drinks next weekend so would like a practice alcoholic drink - I don't know how I react to booze/spice on MJ.

Any thoughts? I had pizza hut buffet on Tuesday and although I saw the grease on the pizza I didn't have any adverse affects because of the less healthy choice.

YES kinda - i've not had any chocolate for 2 weeks now, that's unheard of - the snack box at work I have i've opened once I think since and MJ and the only sweet pudding i've had at home is a mouthful of cake from hubbie's plate.

I didn't pick up any 'treats' when I've been to the shops, haven't had the biscuits offered to me at work.

I've had a single scoop of ice cream when I've been instead of a double/triple

just not interested - I've unfollowed a few 'treat' places I had on my socials - don't need it shoved in my face and no FOMO

Me too. I could skip meals- im kind of hungry but not, no snacking tho and when i have a couple of mouthfuls of food, i feel full again. Forcing myself to eat three meals but also healthy options. Well within the calories each day

MrsPepperpot79 · 20/02/2025 23:44

Day 2, and no sign of forcing myself to eat, but definitely fuller faster, and no snacking! As several pp have said, am using nutracheck - didn't realise I could add recipes, that'll be great! Using it though has shown I don't get anything like enough protein or fruit/veg when on the 1250/1300kcal. Time to try ti improve that - can it be done realistically with diet or are protein powders the way forward?

JimothyHalpert · 21/02/2025 00:35

I took my second jab last night.

4.6lb lost in the first week and zero side effects so far. Suppression from the day after my first jab but my appetite started to return yesterday

Start weight 193lbs (13st 11)
Current weight 188lbs
Goal weight 126lbs

Romanswindowcleaner · 21/02/2025 06:22

@mysparkleismissing i too am wondering this - I have birthday drinks AT a curry house comming up! Worst of everything spicy food and alcohol! I was thinking tandoori prawns and okra as safe menu choices…

Going to try having one alcoholic drink tonight to see how i go (haven’t had any alcohol for 6 days, usually I would have had a small glass of wine during the week or a g&t).

I was pushing the limits of safe drinking before and now I have zero desire to have a drink. I see now the early research into this being a game changer for alcohol issues is well founded. Thinking about talking to my dh about it as he’s teetering on the edge of problem drinking.
