November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Today, I had an appointment with a chiropractor. My initial consultation was 90 mins long and involved X-rays of my spine.

Because I have been overweight/obese, for 20 years plus, carrying the extra weight has caused the midsection of my spine to shift my pelvis forward and cause the spine to curve inward at the midsection but outward at the top which is giving me a stoop and makes me carry my head too far forward. My back muscles have been forced to bear the excess weight so lots of tension and area that are very tight.
The next 7 weeks I have an intensive treatment course planned. Some of the damage can’t be fixed, However, with treatment , an exercise programme and further weight loss, I will hopefully become slightly straighter than I currently am.

Gosh, that sounds intensive! Hope you get it sorted.

@Arglefraster I'm thinking of moving to oushk for maintenance, the FB page still has oushk15 as a £15 off code for February. I'm also tempted by medicine marketplace as the prices are very good but want to be with someone with flexible policies as I'm getting closer to a healthy BMI.

I’ve just ordered my 10mg pen from medicine marketplace, had to send them a wee video on WhatsApp confirming my name, when I started MJ, what, if any side effects I have had as well as showing my most recent prescription (box with pharmacy label accepted) and some photo ID. Prices are great although it is £10 delivery. However that still only made the 10mg pen £135 incl p&p.

Arglefraster · 10/02/2025 23:18

Thanks for that @Cantbesure the payment wouldn't go through so I may get to use that code! I'll have to do the whole sodding form again though as it lost my basket too 🙄
I've never had a problem before but there's definitely a problem at their end just now (it's not reading the Ts&Cs as ticked even when it is so rejecting the payment) hopefully they'll fix it soon!

I like their delivery - Royal Mail turns up when expected & our lovely posties always leave it where I ask them to.

Cantbesure · 10/02/2025 23:22

@Arglefraster I know Hira posted something that recommending ringing if you had issues with orders so they could sort it out before taking payment.

Thanks @JasonTindallsTan I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the different choices of providers now and wondering what the best option is. Just when I thought I'd made a decision to move to oushk!

JasonTindallsTan · 10/02/2025 23:28

@Cantbesure totally understand, but I can deffo give MM a decent review, it was quick and painless and all approved within 24 hours despite me moving from a different supplier. Good luck on getting sorted!

Arglefraster · 10/02/2025 23:29

Thanks @Cantbesure I've emailed them a SS as it was after hours & a technical problem. They've always been really quick at responding to emails in the past- usually when I've asked to change my delivery day!

Pumpkinforever · 11/02/2025 08:45

Week 15! I just can’t believe it as by now I would have long thrown in the towel with previous dieting attempts.

So …

SW 15 stone 12lbs / 100.7kg
CW 13 stone 3lbs / 83.9 kg

GW 10 stone 7lb just to give me a BMI of 27 for now. Means I am at the half way stage.

Total loss to date 2 stone 9lb / 16.8kg

BMI has gone from 40.9 to 34.0.

I ordered a 5mg pen for next time and now worrying about that I should have stuck at 2.5 🙄

WellyBootsandPuddleSuits · 11/02/2025 09:00

@Pumpkinforever well done on getting to the half way stage on just 2.5mg! That’s fantastic

Pumpkinforever · 11/02/2025 09:17

Tinged with sadness that I ‘let’ myself get so heavy. My weight just crept up and up after having kids and going into teaching. I know without MJ I couldn’t have lost this much weight.

I have lots of little targets linked with events. So 12 stone 12 is my gall bladder surgery weight, 11 stone 11 is when I went into teaching etc

MounjNewb · 11/02/2025 09:22

BOOM! 👊

There it is - 10st 13 3/4 - very happy! The next 3/4 lb is the gap to a two stone loss and just 3lbs from GW.

As I have said before - I don't ever remember seeing 10s in my adult life (M 52). My objective is that this is now my upper limit weight - want to keep myself between 10.5 and 11 from here on.

Sorry for the self-congratulation but feeling very chuffed right now. Very appreciative that my journey was always going to be much much shorter than for others.

No way I would have achieved this without MJ and, I think also, being a part of this noble cohort of November starters who have all done so well and kept me encouraged and accountable. Thank you! 🙏

We've all got this! 💪

I know how you feel, we’re probably all feeling similar. But we’ve got Mounjaropen is our back pocket now, and it’s helping us all make positive changes. I don’t know about you, but I really feel like this time it’s different. I wouldn’t have stuck to a diet this long either, it’s keeping me going when normally I would have slowly lapsed back in to bad habits, and i do think I’m learning better habits for LAM (life after Mounjaro)

Keep focusing on your achievements and your targets - you’ve got this!

lostinchaos · 11/02/2025 10:24

Hi everyone, hope you are all feeling good! I have a question to ask... does anyone take any supplements and if so, what would you recommend? I keep being targeted by ads for mushroom gummies and collagen powders, which I think could potentially be good for me, but am worried they might be a waste of money! Would love to know if anyone has tried them! Thanks 🙏

I am taking Dose & Co Collagen creamer , too early to say if it’s helping but have a considerable amount to lose so hoping it halts retain skin elasticity.
Also taking vitamins as have had considerable hair loss.

Pumpkinforever · 11/02/2025 12:13

@lostinchaos I have the fast 800 keto hot chocolate stuff. It has 7g of protein. Claims it is a collagen protein drink. Just over 100 calories

plus I got some marine collagen tablets from Holland & Barrett.

Do they help? Not sure but feel it is better to do something than nothing. Will I have baggy skin? Yes definitely at my age and given the amount I have to lose and the amount of time I have been obese.

Given the amount I am spending on MJ, spending a bit on supplements is insignificant.

Cantbesure · 11/02/2025 13:11

I sometimes have a protein shake. I don't really like it but as a veggie I'm often way short of my protein target. I'm not sure that there is a benefit to taking collagen over protein, and especially not as a veggie. Plus collagen seems to be very expensive.

Wow well done @MounjNewb it's amazing to think that this thread is going to fill up with people hitting their goal weight soon.

Completely the same here, I’ve lost over two stone but it doesn’t feel like real weight because I tell myself I should never have let it get that bad. I’m still in the 15’s and until I get back into 13’s which is a number I’ve not seen since about 20 years ago I’ll not feel like I’ve ‘lost weight’.

Goldleafcat · 11/02/2025 14:15

@lostinchaos I’ve upped my supplements game recently, partly because I’ve noticed my joints are getting more grumpy (and I have a sore knee / leg in bed at night, hoping not arthritis but increasingly thinking it is 🤷‍♀️), and also to help me be in a good place for getting older / menopause etc.

I take a decent general multivitamin, and have also started:

  • Collagen (Will Powders, it is tasteless) (for joints, skin, hair, nails)
  • Glucosamine and chondroitin (joint related) (from Boots, on their £10 Tuesday offers!)
  • Omega 3
  • Calcium
  • hyaluronic acid (again Boots, £10 Tuesday offers) (not sure if this does much but hey let’s see!)
  • Magnesium
  • A vitamin D spray (BetterYou, a friend recommended it)

I do have to say, since taking a good quality multivitamin and the Vit D I’ve not had (touch wood) much in the way of coughs and colds this winter. Last winter I was so ill, it was ghastly. I think some of it was us staying away from nursery / busy places to prepare and recover from my little boys surgery (definitely something to be said for being antisocial to avoid illness 🤣) but we only started that towards the end of December.

He’s back at nursery now. I’ll probably be a sneezing and coughing wreck with D&V before we know it 😂

Goldleafcat · 11/02/2025 14:20

@Pumpkinforever @JasonTindallsTan I’ve been sad and down about it too. I’m 1lb away from a 2 stone weight loss but like you it doesn’t feel like ‘real’ weight loss because I shouldn’t have let it pile on in the first place!

I have weights linked to events / periods in my life too! One of my main ones is 12 stone 7 (I got there for my 40th) and it’s also a weight I managed to get back to in my 20s when I felt so much better and more me. If I can ever manage 11 stone that’ll be a first since 1999 🫣😆

This is fascinatingly similar to a conversation we've had on the 10 stone to lose chat. So many of us thinking of milestones in terms of 'my pre covid weight' or 'what I weighed in 2014' etc.
We are all so aware of our weight at different times on our lives but also what that means in terms of the things we were wearing or the things we did. And also the difference between the stones we have lost dozens of times and the stones that we 'haven't lost since 2015'.
I have no profound thoughts but it's interesting that so many of us are sooo aware of what we weighed and when, and what those previous iterations of us mean as we head back towards those weights.
I think I said it in this chat too but I've struggling with the 17s as I've lost this stone multiple times. I'm trying to focus on where I'm going and not where I've been though.

Oceangrey · 11/02/2025 15:39

Yeah that is interesting. I do the same, I think about how much I weighed at uni or when I got married (10.5st), or before losing weight for my wedding (12st) or the maximum which was during covid (14st).

I'm at 11st 13lb now so kind of in the middle. I know I was at that 10.5st for a long time back then so I am hoping I can reset to that weight once I get there. I am anticipating being on some kind of maintenance dose for a good long while which I don't mind as it seems to have various other benefits (and I'm lucky enough to be able to afford it).

My body really seems to have a 'home' weight and then naturally fluctuates but a few lb but not beyond that, so it will probably need some time there for it to stick. 10st 6lb is at the top of the 'normal' weight range for me anyway but I'm not thinking about lower than that right now as I've never weighed less as an adult and can't really imagine it.

jay55 · 11/02/2025 15:40

Woohoo to the losers, great to be hitting the milestones.

I bought a tub of collagen powder to put in coffee but half the time I don't finish my morning coffee so it feels like a big waste of money.

I was also doing this so I am now adding it to yoghurt.

IndigoHexagon · 11/02/2025 17:21

For those of you struggling with protein (and nutrition!) I can highly recommend purition powder. It’s not marketed as protein powder but as ‘whole food nutrition’ meal replacement. The powder itself has a very small amount of whey protein in it but it’s made from nuts and seeds and dried fruit. It doesn’t have that chemical aftertaste that protein powder normally has. The powder itself is has about 16g protein per portrin but you make it with milk, which takes it up on par with other protein powders.
as it’s made with nuts and seeds it doesn’t go completely smooth but it’s nutty so it’s not off putting or anything. I also like that it’s not overly sweet so you can add a spoonful of maple syrup or honey and adjust the sweetness to your own preferences.
I love the macadamia and vanilla and the pistachio is lush!

You can get single serve sachets to try and find your favourite flavour and they do a vegan version too (and a whole range of drinks like matcha lattes too!)

bonus - it’s full of fibre so helps with the 💩.

i have a referral code if anyone wants to try it and get £5 off - pm me.
