November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I’ve had an absolutely hellish week of side effects that is regretfully going to stop my mountain journey 😢.

I’ve been on my 3rd week of 7.5 and have had three separate days (Weds/Fri/Sun) of extreme 🤮 and 💩 with a temp of 38.5 and I just can’t risk feeling that ill again.

I’m gutted. I’ve been losing well, 2 stone off in 14 weeks plus an extra 7lb while ill as I am now a bone-dry husk of a human! Nothing changed for me to get so ill so I’m a bit baffled.

I’ve got two full pens left so might leave it a couple of weeks and take 2.5 for a while to take the edge off but I’ve got another 7 stone to lose 😱. Hopefully my focus and gym obsession will keep me on track but it’ll be harder.

Sorry for such a negative post. @Ralala i think you’ve had similar issues haven’t you but went back on it? How’s it been going?

Will still follow this thread as it’s lovely to hear how you are all doing!

Week 15! I just can’t believe it as by now I would have long thrown in the towel with previous dieting attempts.

So …

SW 15 stone 12lbs / 100.7kg
CW 13 stone 3lbs / 83.9 kg

GW 10 stone 7lb just to give me a BMI of 27 for now. Means I am at the half way stage.

Total loss to date 2 stone 9lb / 16.8kg

BMI has gone from 40.9 to 34.0.

I ordered a 5mg pen for next time and now worrying about that I should have stuck at 2.5 🙄

That’s an amazing result congratulations! I also have Jon Bon Jovi in my head singing “whoa whoa we’re halfway there” 😆

Tinged with sadness that I ‘let’ myself get so heavy. My weight just crept up and up after having kids and going into teaching. I know without MJ I couldn’t have lost this much weight.

I have lots of little targets linked with events. So 12 stone 12 is my gall bladder surgery weight, 11 stone 11 is when I went into teaching etc

I think the key is to look forward to the new you rather than to look back with any regrets, keep going!

BOOM! 👊

There it is - 10st 13 3/4 - very happy! The next 3/4 lb is the gap to a two stone loss and just 3lbs from GW.

As I have said before - I don't ever remember seeing 10s in my adult life (M 52). My objective is that this is now my upper limit weight - want to keep myself between 10.5 and 11 from here on.

Sorry for the self-congratulation but feeling very chuffed right now. Very appreciative that my journey was always going to be much much shorter than for others.

No way I would have achieved this without MJ and, I think also, being a part of this noble cohort of November starters who have all done so well and kept me encouraged and accountable. Thank you! 🙏

We've all got this! 💪

Such amazing news! A new stone bracket 🥳 I think you’ve got every right to be chuffed with yourself, congratulations 👏

I know how you feel, we’re probably all feeling similar. But we’ve got Mounjaropen is our back pocket now, and it’s helping us all make positive changes. I don’t know about you, but I really feel like this time it’s different. I wouldn’t have stuck to a diet this long either, it’s keeping me going when normally I would have slowly lapsed back in to bad habits, and i do think I’m learning better habits for LAM (life after Mounjaro)

Keep focusing on your achievements and your targets - you’ve got this!

Well said!

Hi everyone, hope you are all feeling good! I have a question to ask... does anyone take any supplements and if so, what would you recommend? I keep being targeted by ads for mushroom gummies and collagen powders, which I think could potentially be good for me, but am worried they might be a waste of money! Would love to know if anyone has tried them! Thanks 🙏

I think supplements work if you believe in what you’re taking. There is a great deal of study around collagen which does seem to indicate that you cannot improve your collagen naturally by ingesting it – you have to stimulate production and that usually means some form of intrusive therapy such as micro needling. That said, everyone I know who takes collagen by ingesting it does swear their hair nails etc are all much healthier so I think you should do your research and take what you think is best for you. I’ve not heard of the mushroom gummy‘s, but obviously the more you click on content like that the more it will serve you up on the various social media platforms…!

@Novjaro

In case you have a bug, this quote is taken from another thread….

“We’re home, they did a ‘rapid’ blood test which apparently showed his kidneys were working ok. Then sent to the GP in the walk in centre. He has said to continue with dyrilite and prescribed him with anti-sickness and anti diarrhoea meds.
Both nurse in A&E and GP in walk in believe he caught a bug that was then the jabs massively exacerbated it.
The GP was very positive about the jabs, saying he is a big advocate for them and I’m his advice would be to take a break for a few weeks and once he’s 100% better start again from 2.5mg.”

PinkArt · 11/02/2025 15:20

This is fascinatingly similar to a conversation we've had on the 10 stone to lose chat. So many of us thinking of milestones in terms of 'my pre covid weight' or 'what I weighed in 2014' etc.
We are all so aware of our weight at different times on our lives but also what that means in terms of the things we were wearing or the things we did. And also the difference between the stones we have lost dozens of times and the stones that we 'haven't lost since 2015'.
I have no profound thoughts but it's interesting that so many of us are sooo aware of what we weighed and when, and what those previous iterations of us mean as we head back towards those weights.
I think I said it in this chat too but I've struggling with the 17s as I've lost this stone multiple times. I'm trying to focus on where I'm going and not where I've been though.

Keep going, you’re doing so well 💪🏻

Yeah that is interesting. I do the same, I think about how much I weighed at uni or when I got married (10.5st), or before losing weight for my wedding (12st) or the maximum which was during covid (14st).

I'm at 11st 13lb now so kind of in the middle. I know I was at that 10.5st for a long time back then so I am hoping I can reset to that weight once I get there. I am anticipating being on some kind of maintenance dose for a good long while which I don't mind as it seems to have various other benefits (and I'm lucky enough to be able to afford it).

My body really seems to have a 'home' weight and then naturally fluctuates but a few lb but not beyond that, so it will probably need some time there for it to stick. 10st 6lb is at the top of the 'normal' weight range for me anyway but I'm not thinking about lower than that right now as I've never weighed less as an adult and can't really imagine it.

I’m also interested to see where my body will actually settle. It seems like such a long time ago that I was anything other than between 13 and 14 stone!

I'm hoping for a comfortable size 10 -12 and healthy bmi. Don't have a particular weight in mind under 9 would be great but low 9s would be good too. Anything under 10 would put me in a healthy range so a minimum of just over 2 more stones to go!

Novjaro · 11/02/2025 20:33

Thank you @lovealongbath and @Mounjaropen

i did initially think it was bug - I’ve had noravirus in the past and it was similar. Hadn’t considered that the jabs could exacerbate a bug thought and the sulphur burps just made me think it was jab-related. Food for thought. I’ll see how I feel in a couple of weeks and restart but very slowly.

SerenePeer · 11/02/2025 20:48

Oh my goodness. It feels like forever since I managed to post! Been trying to keep up with you all and cheering every loss and milestone!

Had a mad week last week as was away at a work conference. Food was all very calorie heavy, but I just tried to make good choices where I could. Suppression felt high last week though, so didn't feel too tricky. I rocked a pair of sequin hot pants and felt so much more confident in my own skin...felt like the gym bunnies accepted me into their 'gang' too. Bit of an eye opener how I felt people treated me at a lower weight....although I do wonder how much of that is inside my own head.

Anyway. Bit stuck weight wise. Putting it down to the rich, salty food last week. And I think I messed up my jab this week....had a dose left in an older 7.5mg pen so used that to inject 5mg. But the pen had been open more than 30 days, so I'm now convinced it's too old and isn't working!

Need to get my butt back in the gym but zero motivation at the moment.

Lovely to catch up on all your posts. Love these threads.

KentishMama · 11/02/2025 21:09

Goodness, the difference between 5 mg and 2.5 mg is massive. I don't really have any appetite suppression and I have to work really, really hard to make even semi healthy choices. The food noise is definitely back.

I've decided I'm doing 3.75 mg at the end of this week, and I sincerely hope that will give me a bit more of the Mounjaro effect back - and hopefully without the vile side effects I had on 5 mg.

You poor thing - it’s rough when your body won’t tolerate MJ.

What food choices are you making? Is it because the stuff you want/settle for is ‘easy’ or you genuinely fancied it? Can you keep prepped veg/fruit in the fridge as a quick grab before you settle on what you eat for a meal? Unfortunately to stay at a healthy BMI I know I need to accept that the days of chocolate every day with maybe a coke/crisps chaser are gone. Ditto a Macy D’s/KFC more than once a week is gone too. I’m not going to beat myself up for the odd takeaway but I’m determined I’m not going back to how I was before.

You’ve got this 💪🏻

I’ve add in collagen powder to my daily routine-morning coffee. I’ve noted a change in my skin-more Dewey and less cystic spots

So far I haven't actually made any poor choices. Today I've had a large Caesar salad at lunch, rye bread with hummus and veg sticks for dinner, and a high protein yoghurt as dessert. And I had a single peanut butter cookie type thing that my team member brought back from Hong Kong - but a week ago I would have resisted that. So it just feels like I could fall off the wagon very easily...

I guess I'm just going to have to work harder!

Sequined hot pants - SO cool 😁!!! And I love that you are now in with the gym bunnies (my class times tend to mean it is the gym grannies but I am in awe of them 😁). Last time I wore something like sequins it was a sequined play suit hot pants thing with knee high boots, aged 20. And whilst physically I love the idea of being 20 again, it is fair to say that I am much happier at 50 odd 😁
