November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I have are very similar to you @MsRumpole

yogurt for breakfast
chicken wrap from McDonalds,(had grandkids after swimming, that’s my excuse)
shortbread biscuit and cuppie
homemade soup followed by 1 scoop of ice cream

felt guilty after having Mcds so walked 5k steps

Whattodowithaminute · 09/02/2025 18:36

MsRumpole · 09/02/2025 18:28

I now realise that I've got to learn how to eat all over again. I'm about to cook pork fried rice for the family and I've never felt less like eating in my life. So far today I've eaten:

A Grenade protein bar
About a quarter of a small bag of popcorn (we went to the cinema today)
A small chicken shawarma wrap (really small but the only thing on the Spoons menu I could handle) and two of DH's onion rings
Two or three coffees
A shortbread finger (not nearly as nice as I thought they were)
About a scoop of pineapple sorbet

So I've really got to have dinner, but I honestly feel very slightly sick just thinking about it. It's not a side-effects sort of sickness, it's more of a I'm-just-too-full-to-eat feeling.

You don’t need to eat if you don’t feel hungry-listen to your body. According to
my calcs you’ve eaten about 1200 today (unless the spoons wrap isn’t the one listed on MF) so you may be fine.

StarShapedWindow · 09/02/2025 18:55

@MsRumpole if I feel unwell at the idea of eating I just don’t eat. I think this is sort of re-training our bodies and minds. I always tell my DC to stop eating if they feel full and to listen to their bodies - I think we just feel obligated to eat but we shouldn’t.

I have learnt over my 11 weeks that I need to remember that I can’t eat as much as I used to, so am reducing what I put on my plate instead of leaving half my meal…. It’s a learning curve for someone like me who has eaten big meals.

MsRumpole · 09/02/2025 19:20

Thanks, lovelies. I reckon 1200 is about right for what I have had. I had a very small bowl of the pork stir fry and stopped about 3/4 of the way through. It's tricky because I have a 7 year old and I don't want to not eat anything at mealtimes. DH has already told her that I am taking meds to lose weight which actually I wasn't going to specifically tell her so I just want to have relatively normal mealtimes. But it is hard when you're just not hungry.

StarShapedWindow · 09/02/2025 19:29

@BagQueenBee yes! So true. I can’t eat as much and shouldn’t eat as much. I’m really hoping by the time I’m at my goal weight my body won’t be used to so much food so will be happy with smaller portions even without Mounjaro 🤞

@MsRumpole I understand the normalisation of food around the DC, my DS wants to be an actor and is doing some modelling work and my daughter is training to be a ballerina- I feel such pressure to show them normal, healthy eating and not to obsess over body image etc. Minefield!

Whattodowithaminute · 09/02/2025 19:55

@MsRumpole you need to find a narrative you are comfortable with, I think it’s reasonable to say to a 7 year old that you don’t feel hungry and on reflection of you day so far you’ve had enough balance in the food you’ve eaten. Mindful eating will likely be a more valuable lesson for the next generation than what I for example was taught-clear your plate or no dessert, 3 meals a day regardless of hunger, treat yourself with sweets, cakes and biscuits… likely all factors to contributing to my relationship with food now and why I’m on this thread in the first place

KentishMama · 09/02/2025 21:52

Being good role models for our kids is actually a pretty big motivator, isn't it?
DS9 knows that I'm seeing an endocrinologist who is helping me figure out how to eat more healthy and get to a healthier weight. Emphasis on "healthy". I'm very much trying to avoid saying "thin" or "skinny" or anything like that.
However, he's pretty perceptive and seems to have realised that I quite like it when someone compliments my weight loss.
Parenting, such a minefield!

AllstarFacilier · 09/02/2025 14:23

I do think I’m in need of some new clothes. It’s a bit hit and miss with sizes though. My size 18 stuff is definitely baggy on me, but I have some size 16 in my wardrobe that I’ve tried on that doesn’t have stretch, and so it’s not quite fitting nicely. Hopefully another couple of weeks and they will, but I don’t want to buy anything else at the moment and so will just keep wearing my baggy stuff.

At least they don’t feel tight and restrictive which is a nice feeling! I’d start looking at the new season stuff for when you are ready 🥰

Thread 7! I can't believe we have made it this far. I read everything religiously but only post occasionally.

So its week 14 day 3 for me.

Sw: 16st
Cw: 14st 8lbs
Gw: somewhere around 12st - although I would still be considered obese in bmi terms - this would be same weight as when I was 16!

So things have been steady here, i've never had a woosh but instead i have lost a stead 1.6lbs a week (with the exception of christmas). I'm on the bonus dose of 7.5mg pen with another in the fridge.

I found the slow weight loss very frustrating at the begining but I am begining to come around to the idea cosistency is good. I mentally gave myself a year on this journey to include tapering off and thinking i will need all this time. It would still work.out financially cheaper than the gastric balloon I was considering - just hope i made the right decision.

No real side effects, accept I am always cold! It doesn't matter how many layers I wear nothing changes.

I am not going to lie - the thought of coming off scares me a lot. I keep reading people are gaining again rapidly. I think the key to this will be regular exercise, an area i need to focus on more as i've been a little sack since Christmas.

Seeing everyones loses is really motivating, I am currently able to 'shop' in my old wardrobe. I started a size 18 /20 and currently comfortably in a 16. No need for shopping yet, as work from home so living with a capsule wardrobe is perfectly doable. Hubby has promised me a shopping trip when i am ready 😀

Great losses and a lovely consistent reduction- congrats! 🙌

I'm using Vinted and getting cheap bundles if I find a supplier with a few things I like. Average is about £3 an item and even if not perfect it'll do until I reach goal of size 10! Currently a comfortable 14 down from a tight 16-18

Edited

Going down to a 14 from a 20 in only 3 months is seriously impressive 👏👏

Weigh in day and another 2lbs or so off. Like @lostinchaos I have also been getting comments about the loss too which is making me feel awful as I was clearly a fat mare before (still am).

Don't feel I've gone down a dress size but some of my clothes are hanging on me and I feel and look like a sack of spuds.
I have been trying to eat a little better this week though I'm under so much work stress it's not easy. Also had a glass of wine which has been unheard of since October!

Am away for a few days from next week so am trying to scrabble some kind of not winter but not hot summer wardrobe together. I no longer know what suits me and everything looks rubbish on me. I bought some wide leg jeans, took off the label and then instantly regretted it. I'm 52 FFS not 19 and stick like.

Haven't ordered my next pen yet. Have 4 more doses from this 5mg pen. Really worried about the cost now.

Hope work gets better this week. Keep going 💪

Spent the afternoon trying on things in my wardrobe. Everything which was previously too small now fits (was over half the wardrobe before) a pile ready to sell on Vinted. Holiday next Saturday looking positive with lots of clothing choice, last time we were away was October pre MJ and I literally had about 3 stretchy jumpsuits I felt comfortable wearing. Haircut complete-first time in a year… like a new woman!

🥳 enjoy the choice and the holiday! 👏👏

I don’t think you should feel guilty about any food but exercising to compensate for a treat/blow out meal is a really great way to learn how to modify new behaviour post MJ 💪💪

Could you still sit at the table with Crudités or some fruit? Sitting together at mealtimes is an important part of family life I think, so I get why you want to sit down, just maybe modify what you have which would model healthy eating for your DD?

I agree with this. I’m fascinated by the fact I can now have 5 chocolate buttons and feel satisfied rather than an entire family sized packet to myself. My DM never cooked so I have definitely over compensated by being a generous host/parent/spouse. Portion control is something I need to control post MJ.

Weigh in day
0.95kg down, 9.65kg total loss on mj.

Was constipated most the week, being away, staying in a relatives house didn't help. But went in the night and just shy of a kilo lost is a great result.
Had a couple of meals out over the weekend, but also did some long (for me) walks. Suppression was really high weds-fri. I did snack on chocolate on the train home yesterday.

I bought a dress the next size down yesterday, only £20, will try on regularly to gauge how I'm doing.

I'm at 45kg down from my heaviest, almost 100lb so I'm doing a little happy dance at my desk.

Well done to all the great losses this week and milestones hit, clothes worn, food rejected, and enjoyed.

WellyBootsandPuddleSuits · 10/02/2025 09:15

W14D1 - 10th 5mg jab done. Next 5mg pen to be ordered today as I’m happy with the effects, don’t want to move up unnecessarily if I don’t have to.

S/W 16st 7
C/W 13st 0
G/W 11st ish

Another 2lb off this week, even with a few extra carbs over the weekend (and celebratory drinks on Saturday night for the rugby!!) One dropped off overnight which was a nice Monday treat for me. I know I’ve been incredibly lucky with my results, I should hit the 50lb loss by next weekend although with that time of the month coming I’ll be lucky to get any more than the pound I need to get there.

People are definitely noticing now, I had saw a couple of family members yesterday who were very kind about it. But more importantly clothes are sitting so much better, I am limited as to what I have to wear that fits but am making do for a while longer. Tops are still being worn despite being a little more roomy than I’m used to but the cold weather means layers don’t make it too obvious. I’m in the smallest jeans I have in my backlog so will get some more a size down over the next few weeks so I have them ready. I did go through a whole load of clothes that have moved houses (several times!) and found some treasures, but also got rid of things that I’m just not going to wear (going back to the whole ‘I’m not 21 any more!!)

Onwards and downwards

@namechangedyetagain wear the jeans and have a lovely holiday!!

No loss for me last week due to (adult) children birthday celebrations. A week without a loss feels like a setback when I'm a slow loser. But it is life. So I'm still 7lbs off a BMI of 25 and 13lbs off what I think is my target weight.

Good luck this week everyone. Some incredible losses in this group. Well done to you all 👏

W14 D1 for me also - weighed yesterday and back on to my 1.5-2lbs and 0.5" off the waste loss trend. Phew!

At my mid-week weight low point last Weds (after 3 days of decent suppression), I was only 0.5lbs off seeing a 10 at the front of the scales. I expect it may appear this week (and will definitely whoop at that!), but it will be fleeting as away with friends for 3 nights this coming weekend and there will be indulgence.....

Really enjoying seeing the new me shape in the mirror and am starting to get comments. Have now started exercising, particularly to build muscle back - hoping that this, with continued 5-7mg dose will drop me to target over the next month (4-5lbs to go).

Going to start looking at switch away from Simple Online Pharmacy - they have no sustained maintenance option at the moment and basically say you have to stop taking MJ once at target weight. How have people found the transfer over to Oushk?

WellyBootsandPuddleSuits · 10/02/2025 09:55

I know a lot of people have said about feeling the cold more, but is anyone suffering from Raynauds-like symptoms? I keep getting numb and very pale tips of my fingers and toes, not something I’ve had regularly before, am assuming it’s to do with the jabs somehow as it’s only started in the past month or so. Its really annoying!!
