November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I am hoping to reward myself with some style update treats as part of my weight loss plan. The aim for my next milestone is to buy some new perfume/eau de parfum but the last time I bought perfume was in about 2005!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a perfume for someone in their early 50s that is neither too 'old lady' but not too 'young'. I used to wear Chanel no. 19 if that helps! I feel so utterly clueless!

Personally, I love Chanel no5, but I’m not sure if that classifies as old lady or not😂

DD loves Si by Armani. I also love the original Prada fragrance.

Hello all.
I started in November too but struggle to keep up with the threads! Some amazing losses on here - well done all. I moved up to 10mg last night. I don't seem to suffer too badly with side effects which is lucky.

Hope everyone has a fab week.

👋

how’s it been going for you?

Happy Saturday everyone! Great to hear all the positive updates of smaller sizes and continuing weight loss success 🥰

I was wondering if anyone has any good responses to comments about your weight-loss? People are starting to comment when they see me, which is obviously well intended but i find it makes me squirm! I'm trying to just say thank you and change the subject... but is there a better way to respond?

Also increasingly they ask how I have lost the weight, which is awkward for me, as I have not told anyone (not even husband) about using mounjaro! I know i should be honest but my husband is very judgey about using medication to lose weight, so it would open a whole can of worms! Also I don't feel like random mum's in the playground who have previously been a bit bitchy about my appearance deserve the truth! Currently I'm mumbling about exercise, eating better and dry January... but was wondering if there is a better way to handle the questioning!

Personally, I’m quite open about it all. But it is no one else’s business. Playground mums are the worst aren’t they? Maybe just wang on about a new fitness regime/mindfulness/New Age poncey stuff like it’s a secret system they’re not part of because they’re not trendy enough 😆 or, just accept the compliment and offer no explanation 🥰

I haven’t told my husband either, He hates eggs so my pen is in an egg box as I know he would never touch the egg box.

Someone commented today that they noticed a difference in me. I just said I had stopped drinking cider, which I have, but I was a big cider drinker.

I’m loving your secret hidey hole. Genius.👏

I've chosen to wear a dress out tonight instead of covering myself up! You can see my knees!!!

Go you! 💪🏻 my knees definitely look better with two stone off that’s for sure!

I’m 47 and love perfume but it is very personal.

Jo Malone is great to find a good range. I like wood sage and sea salt. My go to is Dior Privee Eden Roc, not cheap but I used to work for part of the group so got a discount. Some on the scents in the privee collection are lovely.

Chanel has great staying power, I love Coco but it is becoming harder to find.

I recently got Loewe Earth which is spicy and peppery. I have a couple of Givenchy Allergorias which you mix and match, but they vanish on me.

I would head to Harrods beauty if you have one as they have a great range, or John Lewis. Get samples because perfumes can take a while to settle on your skin.

@sumbum I've lost 33lbs, mostly from my face ans belly, and gone down a size, and nobody has commented either. I don't care tbh, I'm enjoying the rediscovery of actual waistbands too much to give a shit about anyone else!

3lbs down this week. I've been using a 7.5mg pen but stuck to 5mg, just reordered and jave gone for 7.5mg again but still plan to stick to 5mg to start. The difference is only £20 and I'd rather have it available and not need it.

Good morning everyone I'm on week 14 and 4lbs of the weight I need to be for my surgery probably hey put off again by the surgeon another shit excuse but I'm feeling pretty good today got a lot of shit going on in the background but it's not mine just getting dragged in Hope yous all have a great day x

phyllidafosset · 09/02/2025 12:31

It is official weigh-in day today.

wk11, 5mg
sw 12.6.8
cw 10.10.4
gw: 9.7

I’m wishing things were moving faster weight-wise, but I would have been thrilled to discover the 10s before I started, but think maybe I should try to work in some more focused healthier thinking on my diet. Despite the flab, my size is shrinking. I am wearing some 28 inch waist trousers which I couldn’t fit a few weeks ago, and I have rediscovered a bit of a waist. I am a stone heavier than I was when I was a size 10 so think they are a generous 28. But at least I am moving down.

Well done! I think that would be deeply unfair if they moved the goal posts after setting you a target. Keep going and you’ll be there in under a fortnight 💪💪

I do think I’m in need of some new clothes. It’s a bit hit and miss with sizes though. My size 18 stuff is definitely baggy on me, but I have some size 16 in my wardrobe that I’ve tried on that doesn’t have stretch, and so it’s not quite fitting nicely. Hopefully another couple of weeks and they will, but I don’t want to buy anything else at the moment and so will just keep wearing my baggy stuff.

Methemummy · 09/02/2025 14:51

Thread 7! I can't believe we have made it this far. I read everything religiously but only post occasionally.

So its week 14 day 3 for me.

Sw: 16st
Cw: 14st 8lbs
Gw: somewhere around 12st - although I would still be considered obese in bmi terms - this would be same weight as when I was 16!

So things have been steady here, i've never had a woosh but instead i have lost a stead 1.6lbs a week (with the exception of christmas). I'm on the bonus dose of 7.5mg pen with another in the fridge.

I found the slow weight loss very frustrating at the begining but I am begining to come around to the idea cosistency is good. I mentally gave myself a year on this journey to include tapering off and thinking i will need all this time. It would still work.out financially cheaper than the gastric balloon I was considering - just hope i made the right decision.

No real side effects, accept I am always cold! It doesn't matter how many layers I wear nothing changes.

I am not going to lie - the thought of coming off scares me a lot. I keep reading people are gaining again rapidly. I think the key to this will be regular exercise, an area i need to focus on more as i've been a little sack since Christmas.

Seeing everyones loses is really motivating, I am currently able to 'shop' in my old wardrobe. I started a size 18 /20 and currently comfortably in a 16. No need for shopping yet, as work from home so living with a capsule wardrobe is perfectly doable. Hubby has promised me a shopping trip when i am ready 😀

DarkForces · 09/02/2025 15:36

I'm using Vinted and getting cheap bundles if I find a supplier with a few things I like. Average is about £3 an item and even if not perfect it'll do until I reach goal of size 10! Currently a comfortable 14 down from a tight 16-18

murraymcgill · 09/02/2025 18:18

@DarkForces well done below 12 is a great achievement I'm into some 14s and most 16/18s are all falling off me all saggy at the bum bit I've still get a but of a belly

StarShapedWindow · 09/02/2025 18:22

@lostinchaos When I get comments about my weight loss I just smile and say thank you. If they ask how I lost it I say I’ve been reducing my food by about 1/2. This is actually true. I’ve told my husband and three very good friends but I don’t tell other people much about myself so wouldn’t want to share this. I have told my hairdresser but she’s been on Mounjaro herself for about a year and been very open so when she asked how I’d lost weight I couldn’t lie!

namechangedyetagain · 09/02/2025 18:26

Weigh in day and another 2lbs or so off. Like @lostinchaos I have also been getting comments about the loss too which is making me feel awful as I was clearly a fat mare before (still am).

Don't feel I've gone down a dress size but some of my clothes are hanging on me and I feel and look like a sack of spuds.
I have been trying to eat a little better this week though I'm under so much work stress it's not easy. Also had a glass of wine which has been unheard of since October!

Am away for a few days from next week so am trying to scrabble some kind of not winter but not hot summer wardrobe together. I no longer know what suits me and everything looks rubbish on me. I bought some wide leg jeans, took off the label and then instantly regretted it. I'm 52 FFS not 19 and stick like.

Haven't ordered my next pen yet. Have 4 more doses from this 5mg pen. Really worried about the cost now.

MsRumpole · 09/02/2025 18:28

I now realise that I've got to learn how to eat all over again. I'm about to cook pork fried rice for the family and I've never felt less like eating in my life. So far today I've eaten:

A Grenade protein bar
About a quarter of a small bag of popcorn (we went to the cinema today)
A small chicken shawarma wrap (really small but the only thing on the Spoons menu I could handle) and two of DH's onion rings
Two or three coffees
A shortbread finger (not nearly as nice as I thought they were)
About a scoop of pineapple sorbet

So I've really got to have dinner, but I honestly feel very slightly sick just thinking about it. It's not a side-effects sort of sickness, it's more of a I'm-just-too-full-to-eat feeling.

Whattodowithaminute · 09/02/2025 18:30

Spent the afternoon trying on things in my wardrobe. Everything which was previously too small now fits (was over half the wardrobe before) a pile ready to sell on Vinted. Holiday next Saturday looking positive with lots of clothing choice, last time we were away was October pre MJ and I literally had about 3 stretchy jumpsuits I felt comfortable wearing. Haircut complete-first time in a year… like a new woman!
