November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Hello all - as always I am rubbish at keeping up with the thread!

I'm ticking along - am on week 15 and have lost 29.6lbs on MJ (35.2 lbs in total). I do love those milestones so to have lost over 2 stone on MJ is brilliant, and 2.5 stone in total is more than I thought I could.

I remember thinking that I really needed to lose about 4 stone, but that was so beyond my imagination that I just wanted a few stone off. Now I am like - Yep! Let's do this, and am aiming to reach 11st 9lbs (started at 16st 3.5lbs).

I do feel like the last few weeks I have had more food noise and been hungrier, weight loss ticking down slowly and I'm getting bored with that, so I increased my dose up from 3.75mg up to 4mg which I took this week. I do suddenly feel uncomfortably full, but OMG - the sulphur burps. WTF is that about?!

I have been burpy all the way through - that is definitely a side effect for me, but they have never been smelling of sulphur. Now suddenly this morning they are foul. I burped in the car on the way to School, and my teen was like "OMG, is that you? You smell of eggs". 😳 I had to blame it on some red onion I ate last night and just told her it had been repeating on me - as they don't know I'm on MJ.

Not sure I can handle this though - if it doesn't settle this week I am going back down to 3.75mg. 😂 I did eat dinner too late last night though, and had more food than I would normally, so it's obviously hanging around in my tummy.

It's amazing how increasing dose just a little bit can cause this. I had a protein shake for breakfast and it is still repeating on me. I'm feeling uncomfortably bloated and really trying not to burp.

Any suggestions to help? As I'm only at 4mg! I am in no rush to increase, but I would like to get to my target weight some time this century😂

I get sulphur burps if I'm having higher fat or sugar foods - pepto bismal seems to sort them out for me as well as drinking all the water and making healthier choices. They are so vile though and have put me off eggs! 😭

Pumpkinforever · 24/02/2025 15:55

So I have two doses left in my 2.5mg pen. I have been on 2.5 since November. If I extract 0.9 that equates to a 3.75 dose that way a progress up to 5mg. Has anyone done that?

My 5mg pen is in the fridge waiting.

@Mounjaropen I want to avoid cardio in the gym and get back to running outside. I want to focus on strength training at the gym. My focus is to tone up and not be a frail old lady.

💪💪Go you!

You are doing so well! I'm on week 17 and I haven't lost 35lbs so well done you!

Definitely keep the water intake up to avoid the sulphur burps. I am currently sitting amidst the fug of one so your message was a good reminder to go and grab another 500ml bottle.

Hey all, I’ve been following and big congratulations for all the losses. I can see people are also changing their mindset too, for when the MJ jabs finish (or for when people stay of the jabs as part of maintenance)

I have made the decision to stop the MJ jabs due to it potentially affecting my bloods. I have a chronic illness which initially the MJ didn’t have any impact on, however in time it appears the MJ can have a “thinning” effect on blood. In other words my platelet count has dropped, so I’m coming off MJ to see if this improves. I have lost just over 3 stone since the beginning of November so I’m going to see if I can do the rest of my weight loss (3 to 4 stone, aiming for a “range” as opposed to a specific weight) by diet, portion control and exercise. I am hoping I can mentally be strong enough to ignore the food noise if/when it appears… Will cross that bridge when I get there.

I haven’t ruled out going on MJ again, possibly in 3/4 months time if my blood counts improve. We’ll see. I’ll chat to my Consultant Haematologist before going back on MJ though. Both he and my GP were aware I’m on MJ but I’m not sure there is enough research about MJ on blood counts, or at least I can’t see anyway.

However I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for the most supportive thread on Mumsnet. You’ve all inspired me to keep going, I’m doing this for my health and I wish you all the best with your weight loss journeys 💐 keep it up, you can do it! XX

Lovely to hear from you! Sorry to hear about your health issues. 3 stone loss is awesome though! You must be thrilled. Keep in touch and let us know how life is without the crutch! I have everything crossed for you, but it sounds like you won't need luck as you've got this!

Weighed in late today due to holiday last week - and very pleased with an unexpected 2 lbs loss.
Hotel buffet : 0, MJ: 10 points!
Total loss to date: 34 lbs. Hope to get to 35lbs this week for my next milestone.

Well done everyone on your persistence. Love this thread.

Back to work today after half term and 4 people asked about my weight loss. As I’m a chronic over sharer and can’t lie I’m no longer a secret jabber.

It was a really positive reaction from those I told.

13 years from first date with DP is coming up on Saturday. This is my lowest weight since we met. I remember putting 9 stone 12 on match because it looked better than 10 stone!

Absolutely fantastic losses this week guys. The updates are flipping amazing !

StarShapedWindow · 24/02/2025 14:10

My DD was so tricky with lunches - she used to get bored of the same thing so I was always trying to invent interesting new packed lunch dishes.
I used to roast a chicken the day before and do pitta stuffed with cold roast chicken and salad or pitta stuffed with falafel and hummus with a little sweet chilli sauce.

A food flask with pasta was easy and filling.

Thank you and Mounjaropen too for your lunchbox ideas! 👍 I’m trying hard to get DD to branch out but is hard going. 3 yr old is also entering a new phase of rejecting foods she was perfectly happy with before. Fun times! 🙃 they both love pancakes, is it weird to give pancakes for lunch?! I do mix banana/ avo in..

For some reason daring to try a wrap last term ended in tears, I don’t get it!

I think I would cave too under scrutiny! That’s great they were supportive and congrats on your upcoming first date anniversary! Are you doing anything special?

I am curious, can I ask were the ones asking slim or wanting to lose weight themselves? The ladies I know who I think might ask (once a loss starts to properly show) are the tinniest skinniest women I have ever seen (I don’t think they would have any concept of how hard the dieting life is) and am a little daunted by the judgement/ gossip that might follow if I disclosed MJ. I swear when I first met one of these tiny ladies she looked me up and down and took a step backwards, maybe was worried she might catch obesity! 😂

StarShapedWindow · 24/02/2025 20:33

@KeepCalmandGiveItaGo Not weird to give them a pancake at all - as long as they eat it 🤷🏻‍♀️

StarShapedWindow · 24/02/2025 20:40

@KeepCalmandGiveItaGo I wouldn’t tell the women you mention - it’s none of their business and they clearly wouldn’t be asking to learn about the health benefits. Never complain, never explain as someone famous once said. I try to live by this because I’m a massive over sharer and constantly put my foot in it by saying too much.

Della82 · 24/02/2025 22:15

It’s sad isn’t it how judgemental some people are. I saw a friend who I’d not seen in a few months and she commented on my weight loss, she and I have both struggled with weight over the years so I told her about Mounjaro, she was really positive and interested in trying it. She then said in her next breath not to tell a mutual acquaintance who had told her WLI are awful and cheating and likely to kill everyone who takes them!
I’m half tempted to tell the judgy woman just to shut her up 😤

jaromoun · 24/02/2025 22:30

well Voy cocked up and sent me 5mg when i should have moved to 7.5mg. i'm still stagnated at 75 ish kg. tantalisingly close to a healthy BMI.
think i'm going to move providers - anyone recommend a good comparison page? not just for first prescription but the ongoing pricing structure?
on a positive note, i'm starting the gym next week with my son. so i've no excuse not to go as he is super keen but needs me to take him and stay there as he's under 16.

Cantbesure · 24/02/2025 23:11

I'm a hopeless over- sharer and so have probably told more people than have a right to know.

Monj.co.uk is a good comparison site. It has two links, one with discount codes and one without. I plan to move to oushk for my next pen as I head towards a healthy BMi and my goal. They have a starter offer of £30 and an ongoing offer on repeat orders of £15. Medicine marketplace seems to be the new cheapest provider on the block.

My 5mg pen is in the fridge waiting.

I whimped out and did 4th dose at 2.5 and will take bonus dose next week

Hi, just discovered this section of mumsnet and hope it’s okay to join. I picked this thread as everyone seems very nice & supportive.

I’m on Wegovy and in month 5, started end of Oct 2024

SW: 15,9 (size 18)
CW: 14,2 (size16)
Target - 13 but then maybe 12

i think most of you are on Mounjaro from what I’ve read?

Wegovy doses are different - started 0.25, then 0.5, 1, 1.7 and highest 2.4

I’m now on the 2.4 as I felt the 1.7 wasn’t suppressing my appetite enough - you can see my weight loss has been quite slow (1 stone, 7lbs so far)
Not sure if I was daft doing this but I’m trying to get 5-6 doses out of the pen rather than 4 - for two reasons which are cost and I was nervous about jumping up from 1.7 to 2.4

Anyway, I’m exercising (joined a gym !!!) but haven’t really changed my diet drastically but I obviously eat a lot less than before.

main reason for posting now is I’ve suffered S & D, awful sulphur burps and acid reflux at night on this higher dose. I’m talking about running to the toilet, it’s virtually water. Sorry TMI 🤢🤐😷

Just felt a bit panicked and felt like I needed to be part of chat with likeminded people. If there’s a Wegovy thread, more than happy to join that.

best of luck to everyone & hope you don’t mind me jumping on so late xxx

Welcome! We probably can’t help with Wegovy /semiglutide specifics - we’re all on Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) but we do love a weight loss/beauty/diet/accountability chat so absolutely join in. 1.5 stones loss is great! You must feel miles better? Sorry to hear about your D&V - don’t panic, is it possible you’ve picked up a bug and it’s a coincidence? A lot of us suffered side effects after moving up doses but it tended to be a one time thing and then our bodies settled down so you might find that?

In terms of diet, how is your protein and water intake? Are you monitoring your macros?

Going to the gym is a positive step, but all movement is good, so try and do something each day - a walk, 20mins of joe wicks/yoga etc - Wegovy is like MJ in that your body will want to use up the muscle rather than the fat so you need to keep your muscle building exercise up whilst on it.

Let us know if you need any help. Sounds like today you need to drink plenty of water, take an electrolyte replacement and eat plain food to settle your system. 💐
