November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I've gained this week, so not weighing in.
The midweek gain lead to a weekend binge and feel like a whale today, so bloated.
Thought about moving to 7.5 but am meeting visiting family for dinner tonight so am staying on 5. Will go to 7.5 next month.
Know this is combo of hormones and stress and it will pass. This morning the food noise is gone but I'm hungry (didn't eat much yesterday after a wild Fri/sat).
In the past I'd have given up by now, so I'll take pushing on as this weeks win.

Well done for all the losses, so much great progress.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/02/2025 10:46

Onwards and downwards, @jay55 - one binge won’t ruin everything! Sometimes these things happen. Pushing on is a brilliant win!

I’m feeling ropey this morning - not sure if it’s last night’s chicken or last night’s red wine, but either way, my tummy is not happy. Sitting limply in front of my laptop debating emailing to say I’m ill and going back to bed. I’m still stuck weight-wise but my period is due so that won’t be helping.

MounjNewb · 24/02/2025 11:08

Quick update from me - 2 weeks since my last update. Last weekend we were away with friends for 3 nights. Suppression was already low by the Thursday before, and had decided to delay my next jab to the Monday to avoid taking pen with me, so I took an early 2mg of my dose before we went, and the remaining 5mg on the Monday. Pleased I did - still indulged loads but expect it would have been worse had I not taken the mini top up.

Weighed in yesterday and have dropped just over a lb over two weeks, so the slowest loss yet, but I'll take the fact it's a loss given the fun weekend in the middle. Have upped to 8mg this week. I've not far to go, but do want to get there!!

Great to see lots of fabulous updates from everone - well done!!

Mounjaropen · 24/02/2025 11:27

I mean, can we just talk about the fact that you’ve lost almost 4 stone? That is truly outstanding! 🙌

Well done @WellyBootsandPuddleSuits like you I hated clothes shopping but I reckon come April it will be fine as I will be able to go into shops and find stuff that fits!

My BMI has gone from 40.7 to 33.7 @lovealongbath Your progress is fantastic

Edited

Fab job on the BMI!👏👏

@KeepCalmandGiveItaGo great coat update.

I can now comfortably put phone in one pocket, purse in another and then put my hands in the pocket and whoosh coat around me whilst it is zipped up 😂

I keep zipping and unzipping because I can do that with ease. Even though it’s getting warmer I want to get max wear out of it because it will be too big next winter. DH has promised to get me a smaller size next winter!

Edited

Currently enjoying the swishy roomy feeling of my dog walking coat here also! At one point I look like the Michelin man in it😂

Brilliant progress @lovealongbath so much room in that top!

7.5mg is working its magic for me this week. I'm just over 2lbs down from Thursday. Be absolutely amazing if I can sneak another 1lb off this week. The only weeks I've lost more than 2lbs are week 1 and 2. For the first time a couple of people have commented on my weight loss, it's starting to show on my face now.

Lots of mini targets in sight - 1.4lbs away from 1.5 stone; 3lbs away from creeping into the next stone bracket; 4lbs from a healthy BMI. Eek!!

I did a gym induction this weekend and am going back this week to meet with a PT to get a personalised plan. I can't afford PT sessions just yet but this will give me a plan to follow.

Well done! There is so much information nowadays for free that you can get it’s almost not necessary really to have a dedicated PT unless you are very unsure about your form, and again, you can probably watch some YouTube videos to make sure that you understand how your body should be aligned during the movements anyway. Good luck!

I have massively indulged this weekend as it was DH’s birthday. Including polishing off a bottle of champagne by myself 😳 I think it’s normal to have a few trials and tribulations along the way, but as you say it’s important that what we don’t do is immediately reach for a packet of crisps, Mars bar and a Coke chaser when you have one slip up!

Keep going!

Thanks @Mounjaropen I'm happy to have a plan to follow and then work the rest out. I know without a plan I either won't go, or I will just go on the treadmill as I won't know what to do and the overwhelm will take over. I do best with something like c25k when I have instructions to follow 😂 the plan is free and can be reviewed 3x a year for free. And there's the option to purchase the odd PT session if I feel I need it.

Try a fat burning uphill brisk walk on the treadmill. It’s more effective as you are unlikely to be stopped starting during your session. Try and increase the incline by one percent each week until you are around 6%. I put on arm weights when I do mine so that I’m getting a little bit of upper body resistance at the same time. Hope you have fun!

@Mounjaropen I want to avoid cardio in the gym and get back to running outside. I want to focus on strength training at the gym. My focus is to tone up and not be a frail old lady.

Cantbesure · 24/02/2025 11:45

I'm both intrigued and scared by the elevate machines. Hope to hit 53 slimmer, fitter and stronger than I hit 52 🤞

AlwaysTimeForWine · 24/02/2025 11:57

Hello all - as always I am rubbish at keeping up with the thread!

I'm ticking along - am on week 15 and have lost 29.6lbs on MJ (35.2 lbs in total). I do love those milestones so to have lost over 2 stone on MJ is brilliant, and 2.5 stone in total is more than I thought I could.

I remember thinking that I really needed to lose about 4 stone, but that was so beyond my imagination that I just wanted a few stone off. Now I am like - Yep! Let's do this, and am aiming to reach 11st 9lbs (started at 16st 3.5lbs).

I do feel like the last few weeks I have had more food noise and been hungrier, weight loss ticking down slowly and I'm getting bored with that, so I increased my dose up from 3.75mg up to 4mg which I took this week. I do suddenly feel uncomfortably full, but OMG - the sulphur burps. WTF is that about?!

I have been burpy all the way through - that is definitely a side effect for me, but they have never been smelling of sulphur. Now suddenly this morning they are foul. I burped in the car on the way to School, and my teen was like "OMG, is that you? You smell of eggs". 😳 I had to blame it on some red onion I ate last night and just told her it had been repeating on me - as they don't know I'm on MJ.

Not sure I can handle this though - if it doesn't settle this week I am going back down to 3.75mg. 😂 I did eat dinner too late last night though, and had more food than I would normally, so it's obviously hanging around in my tummy.

It's amazing how increasing dose just a little bit can cause this. I had a protein shake for breakfast and it is still repeating on me. I'm feeling uncomfortably bloated and really trying not to burp.

Any suggestions to help? As I'm only at 4mg! I am in no rush to increase, but I would like to get to my target weight some time this century😂

W16 D1 - another 5mg dose. I’m not sure the effects are as strong now (I’ve had a couple of wobbles with a cookie…) but I did manage to avoid making terrible food choices yesterday when I was slightly hungover (a feeling I haven’t missed….!) which is especially impressive considering my family had a McDonald’s in front of me.

I bought a couple of t shirts yesterday to tide me over to goal weight, they were a (Primark) medium. I can’t remember the last time I was a medium. I’ve still been wearing a selection of xl and large that were all far too snug at the start of November, so they’re going to be making their way to the bin. I spoke to DH the other day about clothes and he’s agreed that it’s probably sensible to wait a couple of months until I’m at (or close to) goal weight and make do with what I have at the moment, then I can go and buy a whole new wardrobe for summer. The idea of clothes shopping used to fill me with dread - now I can’t wait!

You have done so well! Our starting weight and goal weights are the same. I’m slightly ashamed I’m 2 stone behind you.

Fantastic about the T shirt and yes clothes shopping for the summer will be amazing! Well done!

Cantbesure · 24/02/2025 12:40

@Goldleafcat @WellyBootsandPuddleSuits 2 and 4 stone kisses are both epic. So well done to you both. I do think it's hard not to compare our journeys but what matters is our own individual progress and knowing we are going to get to goal our own way. It does feel a bit like driving lessons, in that the real journey starts when we get to goal and how we maintain it. That will be a lifelong journey.

That is a great analogy actually! I only started professional driving lessons in 2018 and passed my test in 2019. Still learning all the time!

Della82 · 24/02/2025 12:58

@AlwaysTimeForWine are you drinking enough water? I find it helps with burping

if I eat late and especially if it’s at the naughtier end or the food spectrum it definitely impacts the following morning

Hope you feel better soon

edited to add well done on your losses 💪

Cantbesure · 24/02/2025 13:04

Losses not kisses obvs! I don't know how to edit posts. My DS has recently passed and didn't understand what I meant about you really learn once you are out driving alone. Weight loss feels similar I think. We are all working towards a goal but once we get there that's not the end. I've lost 2.5 stone on SW and put it all back on. I really don't want this for me again. Hopefully we won't have another global pandemic and lock down this time! But I have to learn to navigate social life, holidays, occasions without the weight gain.

AlwaysTimeForWine · 24/02/2025 13:33

@Della82 Good call! I am not always as good as I should be about my water and constantly need to remind myself to drink more. I'm in awe of those who manage to chug 3L a day!!

I think it's because I've always been had reflux/Indigestion (even before MJ), so when I'm sloshing with water it can feel a bit refluxy but need to get over that.

Right off to sort uniforms, school wellies, PE kit, hats/ gloves and lunch boxes etc.
School mums or dads, any lunch box ideas for fussy eaters? Last term we were totally cheese sandwiched out! 😆

A coat update btw is I can now (just!) about do the zip but alas cannot wear it zipped sitting down ( ie driving) but can at least for the freezing school drops!

I really hope the suppression and weight loss will kick back in soon (maybe on the 7.5?) would love soo much to be further along like so many of you lovely lot here

My DD was so tricky with lunches - she used to get bored of the same thing so I was always trying to invent interesting new packed lunch dishes.
I used to roast a chicken the day before and do pitta stuffed with cold roast chicken and salad or pitta stuffed with falafel and hummus with a little sweet chilli sauce.

A food flask with pasta was easy and filling.

Amazing to be in a medium! Totally agree with you on waiting buy your new wardrobe - I bought a new wardrobe a few weeks ago and now all the trousers/jeans are too big 🤦🏻‍♀️.
Do you know what look/style you want to go for - I’ve been enjoying building up different looks on Pinterest

LimeLace · 24/02/2025 15:41

Hey all, I’ve been following and big congratulations for all the losses. I can see people are also changing their mindset too, for when the MJ jabs finish (or for when people stay of the jabs as part of maintenance)

I have made the decision to stop the MJ jabs due to it potentially affecting my bloods. I have a chronic illness which initially the MJ didn’t have any impact on, however in time it appears the MJ can have a “thinning” effect on blood. In other words my platelet count has dropped, so I’m coming off MJ to see if this improves. I have lost just over 3 stone since the beginning of November so I’m going to see if I can do the rest of my weight loss (3 to 4 stone, aiming for a “range” as opposed to a specific weight) by diet, portion control and exercise. I am hoping I can mentally be strong enough to ignore the food noise if/when it appears… Will cross that bridge when I get there.

I haven’t ruled out going on MJ again, possibly in 3/4 months time if my blood counts improve. We’ll see. I’ll chat to my Consultant Haematologist before going back on MJ though. Both he and my GP were aware I’m on MJ but I’m not sure there is enough research about MJ on blood counts, or at least I can’t see anyway.

However I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for the most supportive thread on Mumsnet. You’ve all inspired me to keep going, I’m doing this for my health and I wish you all the best with your weight loss journeys 💐 keep it up, you can do it! XX
