November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

First dodgy stomach moment (though could be a bug). Had breakfast at about 8am although I wasn't hungry, just some Alpen. 6 hours later I have just thrown it all back up 😬 The child had a dodgy stomach the day before yesterday so it could be that but I think it might just have been eating when I wasn't hungry.

Ozempic is ruining my social life (and I’m not taking it)

https://www.thetimes.com/article/f88e4458-2112-498e-8a2a-24ba6aa67a43?shareToken=5c1d108825750faf28e8692787e15170

This article has really irritated me today - once again, it’s suggesting that people are lying to get the drugs. It also says that people feel undigested food stuck in their throats (wtf?). And what business is it of hers if her friends want to eat less? If they want to order a couple of courses and then leave half of it, so what? At the age of 29 she also ain’t seen nothing yet when it comes to weight gain and dieting. Doesn’t stop her judging, though.

Yup. I read half and got fed up with her smug tone. Annoyed here too!

I also started listening to a podcast earlier called Should I Delete That, but I gave up 11 minutes in. Seemed to me the hosts had already made their minds up that Ozempic is evil, will ruin your life and anyone who takes it is simply vain.

PinkArt · 17/02/2025 12:32

I hope at least one of them points out that it's a problem of her own creation. So the person she's eating with doesn't finish their main, where's the issue? She doesn't have to finish their meal but feels like she does, suggesting her own food issues are as bad as theirs.
I'd hate to think any of my friendships were so superficial that they couldn't survive me not eating all my chips!

So 100% this! She talks about where she was raised in a household where you were not allowed to leave the table until you had finished your food, and then she talks about the challenge she has not eating up all of her friends food because she hates to see food left on the plate...and then says she has problems managing her weight.

Sad thing is that she does have that 'I was raised correctly and you weren't' tone, instead of interrogating why she should have an issue with what her friends do or don't eat, because it is not actually any of her business.

I do think that she is right about the fact that we don't to move away from the body-positive shift of the 2010s (which, let's face it, still has a HUGE long way to go) back to something more acceptably and explicitly judgmental. Although in reality, we have never moved from that, as illustrated by the post on these boards a couple of weeks ago where the person was saying that size is a 'simple' relationship between what you eat and what you burn. That ignorance is still VERY real.

I went out for lunch yesterday, didn't eat all of my meal, had takeaway for dinner (tiny amount) and the scales STILL told me I had gained .4 of a lb! Pah. Jab day today (and I bought a mountain of age-related skin-care stuff last night for me and hubby, so we can de-jowl ourselves....optimistic me!).

Goldleafcat · 17/02/2025 18:00

I don’t know if it’s an ugly new trend in journalism (probably not new), but have just read another similarly deeply unpleasant article.

I’ve not forayed into the world of Botox yet but many of my friends have. They look fine, they look great. And ultimately, it’s their face, their body, to do with what they want!

https://apple.news/A-YjMYOAnRXm9wBaJhPXS2w

Basically another whining article from someone who sees their friends doing something that makes them feel / look better, and she just comes across as jealous and bitter. And the way she describes her ‘friends’! 😱

Are you sure @DarkForces
I'm very very short but my TDEE is 1475 as sedentary. My BMR is 1229.

tdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=imperial&g=female&age=52&lbs=129&in=59&act=1.2&bf=32&f=2 Xxx

My scales work my personalised my tdee based on full body measurements. I'm just badly designed 😂. It's ok. Mj lets me do it slowly but I'll be for life as I expect I'll settle on about 1100-1200 a day and that's tight. It's just a long long slog to lose it!

W15 Day 7
SW: 14 St
CW: 11st 10
GW: 10 stone ish

Very pleased with 2lbs off this week. Off on holiday today and have been 'shopping' in my wardrobe which has been slightly less depressing than usual! Although my swimsuit is a bit baggy on the bottom so really should have invested in a new one (in the spirit of the thread!)

Well done everyone x

I just came online to share that I'm on holiday with two of my old swimsuits that still fit perfectly fine 5 kgs ago on my last holiday, and they are ridiculously baggy now. Both on the shortest strap setting etc. I never thought to try them on before leaving!

One I definitely won't wear again. The other one will have to do for the rest of the trip, but also looks quite ridiculous!

Arglefraster · 17/02/2025 18:46

Hurrah for baggy swimsuits!
(Makes me think of Billy Connolly talking about swimming in the North Sea in knitted swim trunks 🤣)

How are my itchy thigh friends doing? My itch onset seems to be fixed at 36 hours post jag but the duration seems to be shortening 🤞 it's also starting as a smaller patch but spreading to be big but mild a couple of days later.

I've experimented with longer needles & slower injecting 🤓but don't know what else to try. I had high hopes for slower injecting but I can't tell if improvement is that or just time.

DarkForces · 17/02/2025 19:01

@Arglefraster same here. I still react but it's definitely for less time and over less area. I haven't changed needles but I do keep it at room temperature now. I haven't changed needles weird skin discolouration where it's reacted in the past, like a light silver bruise that occasionally itch in sympathy with the latest injection site. I'm hoping they vanish in time!

murraymcgill · 17/02/2025 19:11

@phyllidafosset I've been feeling sick all day all u ate was a roll with banana 🍌 never again the thought really disgusts me now so I'm off bananas for a while I'm up at the caravan feet up and waiting for eastenders what a life I have and there's a wee stray kitten going around there was around 6 last year so looks like 1 left I haven't saw mum or dad so it's alone my DP has warned me already 🙃

Ooh what did you buy?

I looked at the face mask thingy but found a review for a vibrating roller thing which said it was pretty good, same principle, but not as high tech (and rather cheaper) so I got that, and some Olay old-skin (not the marketing term they were using) stuff because I found one review saying one type was good and it was all 50% off at Boots! What I now need is cleanser for super sensitive skin, because with all that stuff on my face I’m guessing I will need some 😁 Any recommendations are gratefully received!

Oh, feeling rotten is horrible. I once got food poisoning after eating blackberries and I halve never liked them as a result. Definitely think some kitten TLC is what is needed (perhaps with some adoption papers, if it is a stay 🤣😁).

I have been frozen all day (it has been really cold in the house, it’s not just MJ) and this is the first time in months that I’ve eaten dinner and still felt hungry. I think it’s linked and my body is so cold it’s turning to food to try to warm up. Succumbed to a Lindor ball and one Ferraro Rocher (DH also gave me chocolate for Valentine’s Day, pah!), which I’m ok with as I’d have eaten half the box in a go pre-MJ.

murraymcgill · 17/02/2025 22:13

@phyllidafosset my wee Mario wouldn't be happy with another moggy moving in or I would it doesn't look dead skinny or ill. I'll have a look out tomorrow always so it at the same time if in back we're going on a wee day trip to Aberfoyle to the butchers and I feel sick at the thought of food I can't deal with it just now I'm on my 1st 10mg maybe that's the reason

I know two people who merrily confess to having Botox and one who I don’t know that well but she has the shiniest smoothest forehead I’ve ever seen on a 50ish woman. One of the women who told me that she’d had it said that her neighbour had just done a course and was setting up in her garage and wanted a guinea pig - I would so not have volunteered! Maybe one day I’ll give it a whirl but with a proper trained practitioner.

Yep. I’d only consider it if administered by a Doctor not someone in their garage 😱

Yes the echo of the previous jags stays - I would describe them as a slightly darker blue than the rest of my pale blue skin 😆

I hope they keep diminishing for us all!

Arglefraster · 18/02/2025 00:39

@phyllidafosset I have very sensitive (& dry) skin and like eucerin dermatoclean milk cleanser

Mounjaropen · 18/02/2025 07:59

Morning everyone, beautiful day here - cold but clear and sunny. It’s a mustard and lemon roast chicken day served with rocket and roasted baby new potatoes. Tropical fruit salad for dessert. Yesterday I made a lovely cannon of lamb (yellow sticker section in Tesco, bargain) with harissa roasted vegetables which was lovely, followed by lime and fresh ginger marinated fresh pineapple.

Slept badly as it was jab day last night but I did take some time to set some goals for myself in the small hours.

  1. To be able to wear an actual tennis dress this summer when playing. I’ve never worn one since school but the club I play at seems to favour them and no one seem to bat an eyelid at the older ladies, so I shall be joining their ranks in wearing one!
  2. To wear a pair of shorts in the summer. I haven’t done that since 2002.
  3. to be able to wear one of those fancy yoga pant/ crop bra top combos when I attend the complimentary early morning yoga classes at the hotel on my holiday at the start of June. I’ve only ever attended one yoga class ever but for once, I’d like to be one of the polished women who glide about rather than the sweaty hung over mess chowing down on eggs Benedict 😂

A girl’s gotta dream, right?

Have a fab day!
