November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I still enjoy a meal out. I'd not go for a meal again with anyone who objects to me leaving what I don't want.

Just as I never went for food more than once with a competitive under eater, especially my fellow fat friends who would lie and go on and on about how they never usually eat that much.
Or anyone who went on and on about how fat they were when they were a size ten, making me feel like even more of a whale.
Culling your friends to people you actually love spending time with happens as you age. She needs to get there.

Babymamamama · 17/02/2025 10:36

Morning all I haven’t been active on this chat but I’ve still been following along. My news is I finally bit the bullet and went up to 7.5mg last week as I felt suppression was really waning after second month plus couple of bonus doses on the 5mg. I can report suppression much better. I did get some side effects ie proper nausea feeling the first night and then upset stomach the next morning. But since then feeling pretty good and with much better suppression. I’m off for half term this week so hoping to get some mega walks in as that is what seems to bring on the little whooshes for me.
I recent bought a couple of pairs of jeans in size 12 -as my previous size 14 or 16 jeans were hanging off me like sacks of potatoes. But now the size 12 although lovely on the rear if I say so myself are getting a little loose on the waistband. So even if the movement of the scales is much slower these days my body still seems to be morphing in a way I quite like. I’ve been out socially a couple of times recently and met new people and really noticed how much more friendly random people are when I look a bit trimmer/slimmer it’s actually a bit shocking.

Me too. I've discovered why it's so hard for me to not be obese though. My daily calorie allowance to lose weight at even 2lb a week is tiny and so I'm aiming for slow steady loss and really focusing on eating a variety of healthy small meals. So jealous of tall people but honestly it's no wonder I couldn't maintain a healthy weight. A few treats really cost me. I'm being so much kinder to myself about my weight gain since I've understood this...and treating myself to nice skincare and dresses you can see my knees in instead of chocolate!

I hear you. I'm disabled and have EDS which causes inflammation and slow gut motility. The mounjaro is helping with the inflammation I think, but my calories have to be around 1000 a day for me to lose. I've been happy with the slow and steady approach, but for some reason I'm feeling so frustrated and down about it today. I start on 7.5mg pen on Thursday so I'm hoping I may see a little more movement. I was 106kg when I started end Oct, 96kg at Christmas and I'm now 92.8. I am so desperate to see 80 something!!

I've just ordered a beauty bag treat from M&S and I did notice a non scales win yesterday - I was able to cut my own toenails without feeling like my belly fat was suffocating me as I bent over. All small wins.

I know we all know it's not quite this simple, but to lose 'just' 2 pounds a week you'll be in a 7,000 calorie deficit. So theoretically at least when you hit maintenance you'd have an extra thousand cals a day to play with.

In theory but my tdee will be lower as I lose weight. It's around 1350 now at bmi 30. I'm losing about 0.6lb a week by balancing calories and nutrition across 3 small meals a day but there's very little wriggle room 😭

W15D1 - 11th 5mg dose taken (third pen started today) unless something drastically changes, I think I’m going to ride out the rest of my MJ journey on this dose, hopefully only another two ones (after this one) to go

S/W 16st 7
C/W 12st 10
G/W 11st ish

This week’s challenge is half term… aka a week of, historically, being driven to wine as soon as bedtime is done! My wine habit was definitely a huge contributor to my weight - I still enjoy a glass, but I can leave an open bottle for another day which used to seem criminal! That’s one positive change I am sure I can keep going after the jabs, but high will help when I get to maintenance.

Although I still have the better part of 2st to go, I have started to think about what the end of my MJ story will look like (hopefully anyway). If I can get anywhere near 11.5st on this and my next pen, then I’m going to use my 6th pen to drop down to maybe 2.5mg for a few weeks, then 1.25mg before stopping completely. I would love to stay on them longer, not to keep losing weight but to keep the food noise away while I try to maintain, but unfortunately, I just can’t justify the cost on an ongoing basis. I may change my mind in a couple of months when reality hits, and I know we could find the money if I really wanted to, but I’m hoping I’ll have re-trained my brain and body enough over 6 months to be able to stick to what I’ve learnt!!

Has anyone else thought about Life After Mounjaro?

Congrats on the losses so far! I've just ordered another 5mg pen - so this will be my 4th one after one pen of 2.5mg. I want to get to my goal weight then think about titrating downwards from there (assuming MedExpress are happy to continue prescribing?) Hopefully as time moves on we'll receive more info about maintenance. I can understand your plan though, which does sound sensible.

Morning, welcome to Monday.
0.6kg off this week, every little helps.
I'm celebrating losing 7 weeks in a row and hitting 10.25kg down since November.
Last of my current pen this morning. I have both a .5 and .75 in the fridge and still unsure which way I'll go.
I get good suppression etc mon-fri then not much over the weeekend. But I am still over 90kg and my cals are too low in the week so the weekend evens things up.

Hope everyone has a good week.

What an excellent result! Well done!

Have a fab week also.

Ozempic is ruining my social life (and I’m not taking it)

This article has really irritated me today - once again, it’s suggesting that people are lying to get the drugs. It also says that people feel undigested food stuck in their throats (wtf?). And what business is it of hers if her friends want to eat less? If they want to order a couple of courses and then leave half of it, so what? At the age of 29 she also ain’t seen nothing yet when it comes to weight gain and dieting. Doesn’t stop her judging, though.

I read that earlier. Lazy journalism and frankly a pointless article and not what I pay to read. She's had plastic surgery at 19 and is judging what other people do? Frankly that generation need to get their heads out of their narcissistic arses and to stop seeing tigers in trees where there are none. Hopefully when she's in her 50's, dealing with menopause, kids A levels and elderly/infirm parents who won't accept home help/ or kids with additional needs and when there is literally no time to meet friends - she might reflect on this article and think 'what on earth was I complaining about?'

Totally agree with every word. I'm fairly sure I was never this self centred and narrow minded at that age. I remember supporting my own mother going through menopause and the ill health and death of her parents / my grandparents at exactly her age now.

Goldleafcat · 17/02/2025 12:19

So I’m going to attempt to get 10mg out of a 7.5mg pen today. Do I just use a syringe (which I’m used to for when I’m getting a bonus dose) or should I count clicks?

If clicking, how many clicks should I aim for? I’m thinking 80 clicks? Not sure that would work? Should I do 60 then 20?

According to my maths it would be 0.8ml for 10mg if I’m using the syringe.

I’m sure as soon as her ‘ozempic fuelled friends’ read this drivel she’ll suddenly find the problem will have resolved itself - no one will want to go out and eat with her - such a judgy pants!

I hope at least one of them points out that it's a problem of her own creation. So the person she's eating with doesn't finish their main, where's the issue? She doesn't have to finish their meal but feels like she does, suggesting her own food issues are as bad as theirs.
I'd hate to think any of my friendships were so superficial that they couldn't survive me not eating all my chips!

@WellyBootsandPuddleSuits I am obsessed with life post MJ. I've lost many hours watching tik toks and insta posts as well as on here. It worries me I won't be able to keep the weight off without it and it's an expense. I am just hopeful there will be more affordable options going forward. I've just been looking at my camera feed and seeing how quickly I put weight on after losing 35lbs doing slimming world. I blamed lock down but I'd put half a stone back on before then anyway.

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar well she is a judgy delight isn't she?! Thankfully I don't choose my friends how much they eat when we go out for dinner 😂

@DarkForces is that your TdEE once you've taken off 500 cals for loss? Mine is 1600 for maintenance so it's helped me see why I'm a slow loser. And why I put weight on eating what other people eat.

@Goldleafcat I'd use a syringe I think. But your maths is right.

Goldleafcat · 17/02/2025 13:16

@Cantbesure Yes I think the syringe will be easier. As long as I’m not too heavy handed in priming it I should hopefully be able to get 3 10mg doses out of it (including the bonus dose in the pen - which so would have been 4 lots of 7.5mg). We shall see!

Will report back on any 10mg side effects (hoping for increased suppression!).

Yes it’s 80 clicks

10 divided by 7.5 x 60 = 80
