November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I know two people who merrily confess to having Botox and one who I don’t know that well but she has the shiniest smoothest forehead I’ve ever seen on a 50ish woman. One of the women who told me that she’d had it said that her neighbour had just done a course and was setting up in her garage and wanted a guinea pig - I would so not have volunteered! Maybe one day I’ll give it a whirl but with a proper trained practitioner.

I waited until some nurses I knew became fully trained in aesthetics and set up their own clinic. I work in pharma and have heard too many horror stories of wrong dosages and dodgy injection techniques! I don't get much Botox, but I love the effect. Make me look less hagard!

Morning everyone, beautiful day here - cold but clear and sunny. It’s a mustard and lemon roast chicken day served with rocket and roasted baby new potatoes. Tropical fruit salad for dessert. Yesterday I made a lovely cannon of lamb (yellow sticker section in Tesco, bargain) with harissa roasted vegetables which was lovely, followed by lime and fresh ginger marinated fresh pineapple.

Slept badly as it was jab day last night but I did take some time to set some goals for myself in the small hours.

  1. To be able to wear an actual tennis dress this summer when playing. I’ve never worn one since school but the club I play at seems to favour them and no one seem to bat an eyelid at the older ladies, so I shall be joining their ranks in wearing one!
  2. To wear a pair of shorts in the summer. I haven’t done that since 2002.
  3. to be able to wear one of those fancy yoga pant/ crop bra top combos when I attend the complimentary early morning yoga classes at the hotel on my holiday at the start of June. I’ve only ever attended one yoga class ever but for once, I’d like to be one of the polished women who glide about rather than the sweaty hung over mess chowing down on eggs Benedict 😂

A girl’s gotta dream, right?

Have a fab day!

Loving these goals! Love the tennis dress aesthetic - worth taking up tennis for! I'm quite drawn to pilates at the moment - not the exercises, just the vibe 😂 Yes, I'm that shallow 😂 Nah, I do have a pilates class booked for when I'm in London next week - not found a class I like where I live and the shiny London studio tick the vibe box ;-)

SerenePeer · 18/02/2025 08:12

Oh mean to say @Mounjaropen that chicken sounds delish! Do you have a recipe?

KentishMama · 18/02/2025 08:12

My husband is suddenly getting very interested in Mounjaro. He is overweight and would probably qualify. But I'm feeling a bit weird about him wanting to "join in", so to speak. Partly because I know that he goes not cope well with feeling even the slightest bit unwell, so I can't imagine him handling the side effects...
How would you feel about this?

SerenePeer · 18/02/2025 08:20

Weighed this morning and another nice wee chunk off. Now weighing 82.4kg 🤯 So just another 7kg to go until my goal weight, although I might see how I feel when I get there and adjust if needed. 75kg puts me at the cusp of overweight and normal, so maybe aiming for 72kg would be better to give myself a buffer.

Feeling in a right funk at the moment. No motivation for work and just feel meh. I know it's just my usual February slump (January I'm ok with, it's February I struggle with!) and to be honest, usually I'd be eating my feelings at this point, so thank heavens for mj! It does make me realise I need to work harder at changing my habits though and find other ways to manage through the rough patches. Time to book myself some nice things to look forward to...maybe I need to give local pilates another chance!

Penguinmouse · 18/02/2025 08:23

I started in the first week of November and have now lost just over 12kg. I’m on holiday at the moment so doing lots of steps and have just checked into a hotel with scales and was pleasantly surprised to see I’ve dropped 3kg since last weigh in just before we flew. I am actually now convinced it’s time to buy some new jeans.

I’ve been doing it alongside my husband (he was actually the one more interested and researched it all) and find it quite motivating to “jab together” and understand the lack of hunger. That said we haven’t had any side effects thankfully because he is also an awful patient haha.

Haha, yes, I guess I'm worried that MJ side effects would be like manflu *1000!

I'll try to get him up get a decent health checkup before he starts though. I've been under an endocrinologist for all of this, and he took lots of bloods etc before I started. I feel like DH should get some baseline tests.

Think I’ve shared this previously, but here you go! It’s the Dijon mustard one. I roast the baby new potatoes in the leftover residual oil.

I thank god I was shallow enough to just do whatever Jennifer Anniston does - hence Pvolve (which, tbf, does work)

Oh I hear you. Whilst he is lovely, I’ve got a competitive DH. Competitive in everything we share…peloton, cooking, business, tiredness, weight loss, exercise, illness… you get the drift. Currently he’s trying to compete with me without MJ.

He is not winning 😂

Just let him get on with it and remind him when he starts moaning that you made zero fuss 😉

Fab losses! Keep going missus!

I literally cba at the moment either. Going to make my worst job my first job today instead of procrastinating. That said, I’m still in bed drinking coffee so don’t listen to me 😂

My DH started 2 months before me, and has had ZERO side effects, and good weight loss. I was scared to do it, but he jumps in to stuff with two feet and his great losses were enough to motivate me 😁. We don’t talk about it much, I share symptoms and chat more with you guys. You may find he is fairly self sufficient on it, but long-term it might be good because you can make those long term shifts together.

I looked at the face mask thingy but found a review for a vibrating roller thing which said it was pretty good, same principle, but not as high tech (and rather cheaper) so I got that, and some Olay old-skin (not the marketing term they were using) stuff because I found one review saying one type was good and it was all 50% off at Boots! What I now need is cleanser for super sensitive skin, because with all that stuff on my face I’m guessing I will need some 😁 Any recommendations are gratefully received!

I’ve just started a dermatica routine and the biggest thing for me is their cleanser. I am really liking the prescription formula and the whole thing overall, but the cleanser wow! No redness or tightness at all and it’s made a huge difference. It’s the nourishing one.

I’ve heard good things about the sensitive cera ve cleanser too

Feeling very grateful for the MJ today.

My husband started at the same time as me, and he had a higher BMI. He's always been overweight as an adult and although he did do some exercise I've always really worried about losing him young to a heart attack or whatever.

Anyway, after 14 weeks I can see a big difference, his stomach is so much smaller and he's really going for it on the exercise as he's much more motivated. Not sure how much he's lost as he doesn't love discussing it but it must be significant. I've always found him attractive but I'm really happy about the health benefits and love the idea of him feeling better about himself too.

I was honestly unaware that so many friends had tried it until these past few weeks when I specifically mentioned in conversation I was looking at what treatments were out there (in convos about the joys of getting older). They were happy to tell me about it and how great they found it. I am now very tempted!

I’m still intrigued by polynucleotides treatments but it looks like you should have at least 3 treatments (£££) and have also read mixed reviews about how effective people found it.

However, if money was no object… 🤭

With Botox, just bear in mind that if you are keen on running, the affects lesson over a shorter amount of time due to how much of you metabolise. I’m still pondering the polynucleotides in the meantime, this week I mainly considering a visit to have a Japanese head spa.😂

Long time reader, first time poster :), I started in Mid November. SW- 14.2st CW-11.12st GW- 9.2. So a ways to go, but getting there :).
i have a question regarding bonus doses…. Where do you source the needles from, looking for the smallest one possible, I HATE needles 😂. Ideally online, I need to make use of the bonus doses I have stashed away, I’m on 10mg at the moment but have a 7.5mg pen saved for the bonus dose and a 10mg pen saved for the bonus dose. Apologies if I’ve missed links and dose info on this previously….
