@MoreThanJustANumber I agree about lost opportunities etc. I'm in so few photos with my kids over the years as I always wanted to be the one behind the camera. Now I take selfies with them at every opportunity

YouAreEffluentKim · 28/02/2025 22:02

@MoreThanJustANumber I have been feeling the same lately. At 49, I have so few photos of myself and those that exist just make me feel so sad as I look so uncomfortable in myself.

I'm so happy that young people don't have to waste the youngest years of their lives feeling like this, and hope accessibility becomes easier for all very soon

MountKilimounjaro · 01/03/2025 05:37

@YouAreEffluentKim amazing how achievable weight loss is when your body reacts to food the way it should. All this time we've been beating ourselves up, thinking we were doing something wrong.

I despair at all the overly patronising and expensive advice from personal trainers/nutritionists over the years. Assumptions that I was cheating/lying/not following 'the programme' correctly.

And @MoreThanJustANumber I feel exactly the same. So much time wasted. I hope we can all start making up for lost time now.

TryingToHelpBut · 01/03/2025 08:05

Morning, I'm still here too after a year. Down about 60 but still bmi of 27 so a way to go still. I'm on 12.5 but it's very very slow. I've stuck to 12.5 for a few months now because 15 is the last one with nowhere else to go but if not much movement after this pen, I'll go up.
I'm deffo a slow loser (50 now so age against me) but I'm pretty happy anyway.
Hard to believe we were the first lot to get cracking on mj before anyone else I know knew about it.
Asda my supplier have asked for updated scales and photos- wonder if it's because of the year anniversary?

Wonkypictureframe · 01/03/2025 09:04

Really well done again to so many of you with these amazing losses and persistence. And so moving to read your posts, which I totally get. Almost 50 here too with most of my life spent despising myself for my weight, hiding from photos, including with my kids, and thinking I was a lesser person. My confidence now, just day to day existing, is incredible.

KrankyKumquat · 01/03/2025 10:39

Gotta share this with you all as think you'll get it!
I think my OH is having a hard time adjusting to the thin me. Last night, when he was pestering me to have some oven chips with my Friday night treat of southern fried chicken and salad, I got a bit irritated. His response: 'ok, calm down Karen Carpenter'. A bit later, he was doing his usual oggling over (the admittedly pretty good) figure of Amanda Holden in her Spanish renovation programme. Poor chap's very confused about what he likes, I think 😅

Choux · 01/03/2025 11:02

@TryingToHelpBut if 12.5mg is not giving you the results go up to 15mg. Age is probably a factor as I am mid 50s and didn't lose as fast as some posters on this thread.

I went up to 15mg although I 'only' had 50 pounds to lose but I was up the doses every single time I ordered. Took me about 10 months but I had quite a few holidays and trips which put my weight higher again. I reckon I was losing 7lbs a month when not on holiday being more relaxed about eating.

I saw a couple of friends who I don't see frequently last month who asked me if I had used Ozempic. I (truthfully) said no. They are smart people so may not have believed me but I ate well at dinner so they could see I am not starving myself. It seems Mounjaro is still less well known than Ozempic which helps with questioning.

I still check the new joiners threads occasionally and i feel like people starting it now have not read up on how it works, how to eat etc like we did. They are just jumping on the bandwagon cos they have heard it will work. They are often petrified of side effects too and really hesitant to take the first injection or to move up to 5mg. Maybe I have rose tinted glasses on but I am so glad I had the support of our threads and are not relying on the current new starter threads!

Happy Saturday you Losers!

RagzRebooted · 01/03/2025 11:10

@TryingToHelpBut I'm in a similar position.
I've been on 10mg for a while and just worked out I've lost 5kg in the last 3 months. I'm only just into healthy BMI and would like to shift another stone. I have been trying to keep on lower doses as it's cheaper, but I think I'll have to bite the bullet and go up and actually dragging it out and barely losing isn't exactly getting my money's worth either. I'll need to swap my injection day though because last time I tried 12.5mg I was a lot more nauseous the next day and I was at work, which wasn't fun.

YouAreEffluentKim · 01/03/2025 11:16

Yes @Choux I'm shocked at the number of people who start the medication without knowing anything about it or even doing basic research! You can tell there are so many because of the repeated questions like 'I'm sure I've taken it all but there's still so much left in my pen' and 'I took my first injection last night and feel no different. Did this happen to anyone else?' Like even a basic google of those questions would throw up countless threads on MN, Reddit and a trillion Facebook groups which shows people don't research these things at all. It's baffling!

I know we all have to start somewhere, but I read so much about MJ, ozempic and the precursors before I took the plunge and ordered it. For cost reasons alone if nothing else!

Choux · 01/03/2025 11:21

@RagzRebooted yes it isn't more cost effective to stay on 10mg if you have to take 10mg for longer because it doesn't give the results.

I didn't make myself totally clear in my last post but my weight loss of 50lbs was pretty linear and constant (holidays excepted) and I think that was because each month I ordered a stronger pen. I think I was on 15mg for three months before hitting goal and starting to reduce the dose.

I am now on 10mg and maintaining on that so not sure how I get down lower or come off it. Build a bit more muscle, get a bit more active now winter is over and try 7.5mg is my next step.

FlappyFish · 01/03/2025 11:24

Hi all. I’m always here and read any updates. I can’t believe we are a year on and I’ve been at target (ish) for 6 months. It was September I reached 9 stone 9.

I shall confess to you all that my BMI is bang on 19 at present. I’m 8 stone 9.

I didn’t think I’d even get to 11 stone. 😂

I do find maintaining harder. As you can see I’m not really maintaining, I have very slowly lost another stone. I’m eating a lot more, but I’m also exercising consistently. Swimming, Pilates, gym and weights.

My head has finally caught up with my body. I no longer look at size 8 in shops and think it looks tiny. I don’t automatically buy a 16 knowing it fits as it did for years.

My worst problem now is my shopping addiction. 😂

I echo a lot of your sentiments on how much of our lives we have lost through shame.

I don’t really post on other threads about MJ now. So many came after us. You are all my people ;) I feel like we are the original pioneers. 😅.

I will comment on FB threads about MJ. However, I have muted the Oushk posts. The new starters and daftness drives me insane. I suppose it’s no different to not posting on starter threads here.

So impressed with us all. Hopefully we helped those who started after. The early threads when MJ had only been on the market for 2 weeks do take me back.

FlappyFish · 01/03/2025 11:30

Seeing the cross posts now.

Yes, the inane questions are why I just can’t now with people starting. I think that on the original thread we had mostly done some research, rejected Ozempic as MJ was just released and had made an informed choice. We did ask each other, but we didn’t seem as desperate for reassurance. The only FB groups and threads online were US centric ones.

But that is their journey and not ours. I’m glad we had, and have, each other.

Wonkypictureframe · 01/03/2025 11:30

I really, really need to get the exercise in. Mentally at least if nothing else. I love how I feel when I exercise but life is being a tosser on it. I’ve got a friend who feels the same so today we will plan our approach.

The people who want to stay on 2.5mg but then complain they’re not losing weight are the ones I don’t understand, or rather think they don’t understand how the drugs work.

BlackFriYay · 01/03/2025 13:20

Could I pick your brains ladies?

I've just counted 45 clicks from a fresh 10mg pen to give me a 7.5mg dose.

However when I was priming the pen in advance there was barely a drop on the needle at all, now I'm humming and ahh-ing about whether I got my intended dose or not enough came out because the needle was dud.

Does this look about right for a first 7.5 dose from a 10 pen?

Pic for reference. Top pen is new and unused (stockpile!) and the bottom one is what I should've got 7.5 from

Thanks in advance.

You'd think I'd be able to gauge it more reliably after a year on the medication 🤦🏼‍♀️

Wonkypictureframe · 01/03/2025 13:35

No idea from your photos but if the needle is dud you won’t be able to depress the pen in my experience. So I’d take that as a positive.

That's helpful, thank you 😊

GrimDamnFanjo · 01/03/2025 16:26

Still here. Started in April 2024 and bmi is now around 28. Aiming for 23 but weight loss has been slowing down.
Just back from a short break where I managed to put on a pound for every day I was away!
I'm at 10mg and wondering if now's the time to go to 12.5mg?
It's amazing to read how far we have all come.

Yes I have had this once and just needed to use a new needle.

Wow you 1 year on lot have achieved a lot more than I have in the same time! I am definitely more of a plodder with MJ, reckon it might take another year at this rate to get down to the middle of 'healthy BMI' range. I definitely won't be heading for a size 4, but a large 10/small 12 would be great. I'm going up to 15mg next week, will see if that makes a difference to my latest stall. I need to email my current supplier to establish what their maintenance options are, as my BMI is still above 27 (just) and with stubborn hypertension I still qualify to start on MJ with any supplier.

Glad you're still here - I get that maintenance is not really the space where you feel the need to post much but there are still those of us a year on who still have a way to go. Have a great weekend all.

I am pretty much at the same stage, so you are not alone 👋🏼

Choux · 02/03/2025 08:23

@BlackFriYay that looks fine to me. The first dose takes the grey plunger half way between its starting point and the first notch on the pen glass . You can imagine where that would be in the top pen in your photo. The bottom pen isn't quite at that point so a bit less than a full dose was used.

roselilylavender · 02/03/2025 09:43

It is nice to see that this has been a bit more chatty again recently and particularly to see some of you celebrating your first anniversary. What a year!
I need some advice on what pen to use next. I'm a slow loser anyway, had been on a stall for several weeks (which did include the Christmas period so bounced around a bit during that) and finally went up to 12.5 in mid Jan. Last Monday I took the fifth dose of that pen and have had a miserable week! Tuesday night was spent in the bathroom, sulpur burps all week, slight nausea, exhausted etc. The appetite suppression has been back with a vengeance which means I have finally dropped a couple of pounds but I don't like being this suppressed as I tend to just eat very safe, bland food like toast or apples as I can't face meat or veg. I haven't really had a proper meal all week. Not having had a proper meal is no doubt part of the reason for feeling exhausted and then not going to the gym. I have both a 10 and a 12.5 pen in the fridge (and 7.5 for that matter). I'm tempted to go for the 10 rather than the 12.5 but will that be too much of a step back? I didn't really feel as though 7.5 or 10 did anything for me when I was on them before.
When I went from 2.5 to 5 having done the bonus dose from the 2.5, I was in a similar position and think I dropped right back to 2.5 and built up in 0.5 increments and that was OK.

TimeIretired · 02/03/2025 10:52

Hi everyone. Love reading the updates and not at all (ie very) envious to see so many of you at target.
I started at the end of March and whilst I have lost an amazing 62lb to date I still have a good 2-3 stones to go and even then will be at the top end of the BMI scale - I’d like to get to 11st ideally. I’ve been on 15mg now for a fair few months, have a good stockpile of pens that should see me thru to August when I’d like to hope I’d be titrating down at the very least.

I still have bad snacking habits that have probably contributed to the slow loss - nuts whilst a good protein choice can soon eat into the calorie deficit.

I follow the 16-8 model and only have black coffee before 12 noon. However I still worry that when I eventually stop the food cravings will return. Going part time in the Autumn so won’t be able to afford to carry on although thanks to this forum found the medicine Marketplace which is very reasonable and quick.

Scalessayeek · 02/03/2025 14:29

Can I ask anyone who is with Oushk? I'm on maintenance with them now, hoping to have given all relevant details but order says processing (not due to arrive for a week or so!) but there is a GP letter generated. Should I assume I have been able to supply all the relevant info they need having moved over to them?

KrankyKumquat · 02/03/2025 15:12

@Scalessayeek
Yes, it'll stay like that, then the pharmacist will approve. They do stuff in order of delivery date so you should hear back that it's approved about 48hrs before the date it's due to be delivered. You'll get message from delivery agent day before delivery.

Scalessayeek · 02/03/2025 15:31

@KrankyKumquat ah lovely thanks! I'm not in desperate need of the pen but I'm worrying I'll just assume it's all ok and they actually need more info. I mean I did email over additional stuff they attached to the consultation so assuming all should be ok. They've got my first letter sent to the gp from Feb 2024 and an image from then too along with all the up to date information.
