It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

Thanks @KrankyKumquat I've ordered 5mg (which was free as I had MedExpress credit 😧) and I think after that I may drop down to 2.5mg for a month before attempting to stop altogether. My initial goal was 9st 4lb, I am 9st 13.4lb today.

I'll probably go to 9st but I am happy to be anywhere fluctuating between 9st-9st 7lb because that is a maintainable weight for me. My BMI would say I need to be nearer 8st but that's impossible for me to maintain and live a happy life!

So will see where we get to after another 6-7 doses of 5mg (accounting for bonus doses).

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/10/2024 11:41

@Saltandsauce I think I would reduce your dose back to 7.5mg and, only consider trying an increase when symptoms settled and you feel you need it.
You are probably not losing weight as your body is in distress and trying to hang onto any nutrition it can.

@SnacklessWonder I'm sure you know this but you do need to try to increase your calories if you can, for the longer term. There is an American doctor I follow on TikTok who thinks a lot of vague side-effects like coldness, tiredness, etc are due to the thyroid slowing due to low calories which can cause problems going forward.

The key thing with this drug, for all of us, is to use it alongside developing healthy eating and exercise habits without damaging our metabolism or muscle mass so we can find ways to maintain that loss in the long term. We cannot do that by not eating or being unwell (although both of those things can happen from time to time)

SnacklessWonder · 04/10/2024 11:42

@QueenOfHiraeth Yep I said to the same to my DH this morning so I am trying to eat more at lunchtimes. Trying to get as close to 1200 as possible as once I come off my maintenance will be around 1600.

Ellepff · 04/10/2024 12:40

@Saltandsauce obviously you’ve been at this much longer than me, but what are you eating? Some things do go through me and give me hours of misery

Saltandsauce · 04/10/2024 13:19

@Ellepff I usually manage half a protein yoghurt for breakfast, a banana and grapes for lunch, and then a small portion of whatever dinner I’m making for kids eg curry, spaghetti Bol etc. There’s no way I’m eating enough, but guaranteed I’ll be up all night on the toilet in agony. Even if I eat earlier, it makes no difference. I’m proper fed up!
@QueenOfHiraeth i think you might be right, I’m
due to inject on Monday so will defo go down to 7.5mg. You’re lucky if I’ve lost 2lb in 5 weeks, and I still have lots to go so should be losing more than that. I do have PCOS too but really feel like the injection is helping me with all the symptoms of that so I’m reluctant to come off it!
thanks for the replies xxxx

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/10/2024 14:00

@Saltandsauce I began this journey with Chequp who are one of the providers who offer support, advice, etc alongside the supply. More expensive than the pharmacies but I do think we would all be better off if this model was more affordable.
The first thing the nutritionist told me was that I was not eating enough protein and should aim for about 100g a day or 30g per meal. Your portions are very small and, if you have just fruit for lunch there is no protein at all! I was often having homemade vegetable based soup which I thought was healthy and she reassured me it is but not ideal for me, as an older woman needing to lose weight.
She also suggested taking a multivitamin, vit D and making sure I drink at least 2L of water a day.
I now have about 100g Greek yoghurt with a sprinkling of a few berries and nuts, seeds or protein granola for breakfast. Another option would be 2 scrambled eggs on half a toasted protein bagel. Lunch is chicken or tuna with salad or veg and tea is similar to yours but with less of the carb and more of the meat. I am losing better on a week I manage to eat this than if I have a week where I eat less!

ObsidianTree · 04/10/2024 14:04

Hi all,

Thought I would give an update on how I am getting on.

Currently my BMI is 25 on the dot. I weight 11st 11lbs and I am 5'8

Started dieting in Jan at 17st 6lbs
Started MJ in Feb at about 16st ish
So have lost about 80lbs since Jan

We were having a discussion on here a while back about height and dress sizes and at the time I said that even when I was smaller in my 20s I never really got lower than a size 14 /16. Well, I would like to report that I have actually started to fit into size 12 jeans and size 10 in tops /jackets! I do feel vanity sizing is at work as 20 odd years ago I don't think I would have got down that low dress size! But I'm in a size 12 so happy with that! Lol!

I still want to lose a bit more weight and get my BMI down to 23 ish, so hoping a comfortable size 10 might actually be a reality for me one day! Also would love to get to 100lb loss! So might aim for that!

I have spoken to Oushk about maintenance and will move to then on one of their plans ☺️

butterfly0404 · 04/10/2024 14:48

Hi loosers, have swapped supplier again, from Med Express to Curate. ME refused to supply a friend I'd recommended even though her BMI was 32 , apparently her photo didn't make her look big enough. So I didn't receive any referral credit, she went to Simple Online Pharmacy and was accepted immediately!

Curate were brilliant, approved in minutes , despatched the next day, arrived 12 hours later ice cold. I've moved up to 7.5 as my loss has slowed a bit, supression has definitely subsided on 5 and Curate were the cheapest with a 15% introductory offer. Really exceptional service from them.

SW 85kg
CW 72.5kg
GE 65kg

I've not been this weight in 20 years, delighted is an understatement.

Pinkyp22 · 04/10/2024 14:53

My last order from curate was awful they don't respond to emails for days / weeks - reviews say the same customer service very poor if you require help.
Ill never ever use them again

Wow that's interesting, they have been the most efficient for me, on a par with Simple Online Pharmacy. Zava and MedExpress not the best at all.

MamaBearH · 04/10/2024 15:12

Isn't it funny how different people have different experiences with the same company. Myself, my Mom & Sister all use MedExpress with no issues but others have had bother. I hope we continue to have no issues as I dread changing supplier.

SnacklessWonder · 04/10/2024 15:52

I ordered from MedExpress at 11.30 this morning and it's being delivered tomorrow!

I’ve used MedExpress throughout and bar one order taking a few days longer than normal (when they were really snowed under) they’ve been great. Quick deliveries, responsed quickly to emails etc.
I ordered a 5mg pen last time to help me titrate down for maintenance. My previous order had been a 10mg (which I only took 7.5mg from each time as side effects were awful) so they emailed me to clarify. I replied to say I was at a healthy BMI so wanted a 5mg to help with maintenance and they authorised it straight away.

3wDavid · 04/10/2024 16:32

Same for me - I’ve been with MedExpress all this time and cannot fault them, really. The fact that they have a referral scheme, while morally questionable, is very economically beneficial, not gonna lie. I’ve not paid for a pen in a while, and to be honest, I think I won’t have to again. The credit I have will see me through the end.

Waspwine · 04/10/2024 17:16

Azuresky68 · 03/10/2024 21:54

@Waspwine fantastic work! You have inspired me. I am 4 foot 11 and aiming for 9 stone ..got 1 stone 5 pounds to lose. Been on MJ for 6 weeks and lost 9 pounds so it's an average of 1.5 pounds a week. Was feeling despondent but I can see that 1.5 a week is a reasonable result..just need to keep going. I dread to think how many pounds I have gained and lost over the last 50 years. I managed to get down to 9 stone 4 in lockdown andxkwpt most of it off for a couple of years. Now nothing seems to work which I have ended up on MJ. All the very best!

Thank you for that @Azuresky68 you sound like you’re doing well!!

I think that’s the key with this. If I was loosing as slowly on a diet I know I would have given up by now but MJ really helps with staying power.

we’ve got this!!

It was my first and last order with them. They approved it fast, and it was shipped on schedule ( i paid for named day delivery). However DPD didnt pick it up so delivery was delayed, it didn't arrive the day I paid for so I had to scramble to get someone to house sit as we were off to a wedding the next day. Fair enough DPD cock up not curate, however they didn't respond to my emails untill the following week basically saying you got it within 48 hours so what's your problem. Then they gave some rubbish about thier packaging being good for 48 hours - it came in a flimsy bag, no box and one ice pack which had actually completely melted. It was purely still cool because the tempreture outside had dropped NOT due to there crappy packaging, luckily I think it was cool enough to be ok.
I never so much as received an apology from curate. I dread to know what would have happened if I couldn't have found anyone to be in to receive it. £140 down the drain I imagine.
They may well be good when everything goes smoothly, but if you run into a problem, don't expect a quick or reasonable response.
Never again, im going to Oushk next time. Medexpress annoy me with all the codes.

When I joined MedExpress I shared my code with 2 members of family & on a fb group. It helped me to afford my 2nd pen. Unfortunately the fb groups don't allow code sharing & the thread on here is so saturated that no one has used it. I've at least 5 stone to go so a bit of help would be great but can't see how I can earn credit. It's good you've gotten though.

diian · 04/10/2024 17:58

I have been struggling with the 7.5mg dose and have not got beyond 6mg due to side effects.

I had another 7.5mg pen that I ordered from Med Express in September then regretted it. I went to start that pen today. The white prescription label stuck on the box clearly says my name and 7.5mg dose. However, I have just got the pen out of the box and it is a 5mg pen. The side of the box also says 5mg.

The Med Express' pharmacist has signed the box on the label to say it has been checked. How can they sign off one dose and send another? It was a free pen, and I would rather have a 5mg pen, but I am shocked by this mistake. Do I get in touch with med express? They will probably know straight away who signed it off from the signature or do I just let it go?

imnottoofussed · 04/10/2024 18:36

Thats interesting I've not actually checked my pens each time but this current 7.5 I've been starving so wouldn't be surprised if it was a 5

SnacklessWonder · 04/10/2024 20:02

@Pinkyp22 The codes is why I use MedExpress. My next two pens are completely free!

Thats great if you can get someone to use your code........ If no one uses your code?
Its rather annoying all the codes floating around to be used but continuing customers cant use them!
Oushk do a discount on every order for blue light card holders so I am happy with that

3wDavid · 04/10/2024 20:11

you just need to put the time and effort to consistently share it.
i have been sharing it here and only here, and my time and effort has paid off because I got 4-5 free pens out of it.
