It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)
Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro link below:

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

Yeh yeh, there is…it’s called discount codes or something similar. Sorry, not sure how to post the link here

SnacklessWonder · 04/10/2024 20:02

@Pinkyp22 The codes is why I use MedExpress. My next two pens are completely free!

That's great, but who do you share codes with? I posted on the code share thread and as far as I know nobody has used the code.

dcbgr · 04/10/2024 21:16

buy an insulin syringe - extract and inject

Waiting9 · 04/10/2024 22:16

3wDavid · 04/10/2024 20:11

you just need to put the time and effort to consistently share it.
i have been sharing it here and only here, and my time and effort has paid off because I got 4-5 free pens out of it.

This is really interesting! Tell me more - are you concerned if MedExpress notices? Their T&Cs prohibits posting codes publicly. I doubt they’d go out of their way to search codes that have only been used a few times, but yours has been used significantly if you’ve had almost £1k of free medication. Or are you not bothered?

NippyCrab · 04/10/2024 22:33

@WeeklyJab I've been on 2.5mg since the 5th of August and probably won't go up because I'm sensitive to it, well any meds. I had the same side effects as you my first couple of weeks and now I just have suppression and the dreaded constipation 😂. I still feel hungry at certain times but my portions are small and I don't look for any snacks or rubbish. X

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 04/10/2024 22:47

Sorry lovelies. I will post the safety information soon. Just having a concerning time with DP again as he's got some concerning symptoms so spending most of time arguing with him to go and get them checked out and the in between bits trying to find distractions.

I have managed to get him to agree to call 111 in the morning if he isn't feeling any better but he'd be back off to A&E if I could shift him myself, and he's refusing to engage with any medical professionals tonight. I have considered the fact he can't object if he's not conscious 🍳 but thought better not.

I do hope your husband's health improves soon. It's such a worry when they're non-compliant isn't it?

WeeklyJab · 05/10/2024 00:37

I hope your DH is much improved by morning, @Jimmyneutronsforehead . Why are they so damned stubborn about getting help?

Hi all,

Thought I would give an update on how I am getting on.

Currently my BMI is 25 on the dot. I weight 11st 11lbs and I am 5'8

Started dieting in Jan at 17st 6lbs
Started MJ in Feb at about 16st ish
So have lost about 80lbs since Jan

We were having a discussion on here a while back about height and dress sizes and at the time I said that even when I was smaller in my 20s I never really got lower than a size 14 /16. Well, I would like to report that I have actually started to fit into size 12 jeans and size 10 in tops /jackets! I do feel vanity sizing is at work as 20 odd years ago I don't think I would have got down that low dress size! But I'm in a size 12 so happy with that! Lol!

I still want to lose a bit more weight and get my BMI down to 23 ish, so hoping a comfortable size 10 might actually be a reality for me one day! Also would love to get to 100lb loss! So might aim for that!

I have spoken to Oushk about maintenance and will move to then on one of their plans ☺️

Congratulations @ObsidianTree 80lbs is a fantastic achievement!

As the OP of this long running thread and part of the OG gang, your success has been a huge source of inspiration to me along the way.

Please can you start a maintenance thread next?!!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 05/10/2024 06:21

@Jimmyneutronsforehead I really hope things have settled overnight 🤞🤞🤗

MounjaroMunchie · 05/10/2024 06:45

Really sorry to hear that @Jimmyneutronsforehead - I hope he feels better when he wakes today.

Fantastic work @ObsidianTree - a huge inspiration, and you must be feeling amazing?

It's weigh-in day for me, and I was chuffed to bits to see a weight starting with 10 on the scales! 3.6lbs off for me this week, which is a total of 22lb overall since starting at the beginning of July.

SW - 12st 7.0lb
CW - 10st 13.0lb
GW - 9st

@Pinkbendyman I did start a Feb to April starters thread which has turned into a bit of both, a losing and maintenance thread. Can't remember when you started but feel free to join ☺️

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 05/10/2024 08:14

Good morning.

DP was sleeping over at his family's house last night so I don't know what he's like this morning. I have sent a message and his brother is going to contact me soon with an update hopefully.

He definitely had signs of diabetes last night.

For a couple of days he's been restless, you would have thought he'd been on speed or something. He was waiting in for a repairman and I'd just got there when the repairman turned up and both me and the repairman were like "this is so out of character", then he has been sweating when it's been less than 16 degrees, ridiculous thirst, unable to urinate properly, eyes sunken in, insomnia, general feeling of unwellness.

Because DS is autistic and has really high needs it's a bit hard to split myself between him and DP, and in past crises DP has also refused medical help until the last minute, I just can't get through to him. He is ridiculously stubborn and I've told him it's going to be the end of him one day.

So no update on him just yet, but I did think the hospital might have been a bit hasty to discharge him, but he was a damn sight better on that day than he is now so it's not negligence.

As soon as his brother is awake though he's going to let me know how the nights gone and he's an early bird so he'll let me know I'm sure.

@ObsidianTree thank you, I will have a look at it.

I think you mentioned on here you were thinking of moving to Oushk for maintenance (because Zava still hadn’t changed their stance) Did you sign up to one of their plans?

I was going to sign up but Hira said as I still have spare pens, to wait until end of Nov to sign up to one. So in Nov I'll sign up to the plan that you pay £20 a month for to stay on the books. Then once I'm finished my pens I will go onto the conti plan (I think that's what it's called). I have 2 x 10mg and 1 x 7.5mg pen as well as the 15mg I am on now. So will do another month of 15mg then start titrating back down using my spare pens. Will also probably buy a 12.5mg to titrate down. once I'm down to 7.5mg I'll decide what dose I want to settle on and go with that with Oushk.

Zava's stance is still cut off at BMI 25 or whatever they deem as healthy.... I haven't bothered to find out. They hardly ever reply to messages and usually send auto generated replies. So I have already switched to Oushk to buy pens etc.

Did Hira question why you have spare pens? I also have a bit of a stockpile from ordering every 3 weeks or a bit sooner when I've changed supplier. I was worried about maintenance when most suppliers were cutting off at BMI 25, but this seems to be changing now.

OrangeWire · 05/10/2024 17:38

Update from me, this 7.5 is something else 😂 I jabbed late Wednesday, Thursday I thought well this is just the same as 5, Friday I thought hmm I seem full, and today a bowl of soup finished me off 😂 I’d been on 5mg for 13 weeks and I hadn’t realised how much the suppression had gradually worn off!

TerfTalking · 05/10/2024 17:54

This weekend marks 16 weeks on Mounjaro. Currently on 7.5 split 5mg on a Friday and 2.5mg top up on a Tuesday.

Total weight loss 42Ibs, yes three stone exactly.

Ive now just dropped into a normal BMI. One stone to go and I’m done, cannot even begin to say how happy I have been with Mounjaro, I thought at best I would drop a few pounds before lapsing and it’s genuinely been relatively easy. Not enjoyed the nausea, fatigue and dizziness but it’s been short lived.

Get myself through Christmas then I hope to wind down and finish off.

No she was fine with it. I explained that when I started buying a few extra pens, no one was offering maintenance so was preparing for when i got cut off. She was saying it wasn't fair that providers decided to cut people off etc which is why she started the maintenance plans.

Pinkyp22 · 05/10/2024 18:22

@TerfTalking Do you mind me asking about splitting your 7.5 dose?
I am currently taking 6.25 from my 7.5 pen, I tried 7.5 and felt really unwell on it so reduced the dose counting clicks.
6.25 seems to going well for now, but if I do ever feel I need to go up I am thinking of splitting the dose.
Is it work well for you?

Pinkbendyman · 05/10/2024 18:31

@Slimstar13 wow, almost 7 stone! That’s amazing 🤩 fabulous and brilliant! An inspiration to all of us, thank you ☺️

@ObsidianTree I’ve also still got 2 unused pens in the fridge which should take me to the end of November and hopefully my goal weight. Hira sounds like she’s very customer friendly, especially to be saving you some money in the long run. Thank you ☺️

Sure, I couldn’t get on with 7.5 in one hit but 5 wasn’t working so well 4 days in, so I bought extra needles and do 5 on a Friday and 2.5 on a Tuesday as a top up. I’m finding this keeps my appetite under control all week whilst preventing the nausea and fatigue I got from 7.5 in one go. I found both those side effects awful.
