It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)
Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro link below:

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

Is it normal to struggle to eat at all in the first week?

I felt so bloody awful for the first 4 days I was barely getting 1000 calories in me, and at my (huge) size that’s 1500 calories below what it takes to keep going.

Obviously that isn’t sustainable or healthy, but I have been so tired and headachy I hadn’t been able to do much more. I felt too rubbish to be hungry.

It’s settled down a lot today, thankfully, but I wondered if this was common?

When I do eat I am focused on protein rich food, so lots of eggs and fish.

Is this on 2.5mg?

If it is, have a word with your supplier and let them know.

Some people do seem to be more sensitive to it than others but 2.5mg is not a recommended therapeutic dose and depending on what you mean by bloody awful, it might be that they were just normal side effects or it could be the symptoms of something more serious that your provider wants you to get checked out before they allow you to continue your treatment.

Have a look at my post on page 5 or 6, I can't remember which one it's on.

I will be posting the safety information today. I'm just trying to retrieve my laptop charger as I think it will be easier to do from a computer.

I felt like this on my first week of 2.5mg (and every time I go up a dose). It settles by the second week. Apart from 10mg where I still felt awful the second week, so I went back down to 7.5mg.

WeeklyJab · 03/10/2024 12:20

@Jimmyneutronsforehead - Tired to the point of not having energy for anything, including eating, absolutely pounding headache and struggling to concentrate.

However, at Day 5 I’m feeling much more normal (which is a blessed relief) but I still don’t fancy a chocolate biscuit (which is unheard of).

Hi All, some great losses and non scale victories!

I am still plodding on. A little discouraged as all going so very slowly but I’m trying to keep looking at the bigger picture!!

Im 10st today which is great. I started in May at 12.5st so five months to loose 2st 5lbs. However I’m looking at how far I’ve come and am going to keep going until I get to goal of 9st or 9.5 which will hopefully be before Christmas. I’m 5ft 1.5 so the weight loss is now obvious to some.

I can also get in and out if the bath much easier 🎉🎉

I am not as energised as I’d like to be and have lost some hair so any tips to help in this department would be welcome!

keep going everyone 🎉

Waboofoo · 03/10/2024 13:06

I’ve been taking Mounjaro since March and have lost and maintained c.50lbs

I haven’t checked into this thread for ages, so please can someone update on what providers are doing when you get to a healthy BMI as I’m almost there now. I’m using Zava (used Asda before).

I want to continue taking the medication and lose weight very slowly as I feel I’ll have more chance of keeping it off this way.

I am fairly sure Zava will not support maintenance. I moved to Oushk last month when I was at a BMI of 26 as they have a clearly published set of maintenance options. You have to have a specific consultation with their pharmacist in order to go onto a maintenance plan which I am about to do. Feedback from other users who have done this already is very positive.

Hi @Waspwine - just popping on to say I'm also losing fairly slowly - 22lbs loss since end of May to now. I've not titrated up quickly though - I've done 2 x 2.5mg and now I'm on 5mg (and staying on 5mg for a while as it really kills my appetite in the first 4 or 5 days).

It's only in the last couple of weeks that people have asked if I'm losing weight - I'm now down to size 14 from a 16/18. I'm happy to take it slowly. I think there's a slow losers thread somewhere, but I don't really identify as a 'slow' loser - just a steady loser 😊

I’m also a slow loser because I’m not logging what I eat now. I’m happy with this as I’m listening to my body and taking it slowly. I’ve probably only lost half a stone in last 3 months. I’m never going back again so I want to consolidate my loss rather than diet unsustainably. I haven’t increased my dose in 5 months and feel hunger but my appetite is much less. It’s costing me a lot more and I could have lost a lot more weight faster, but then I’d be denied the medication and I’d worry I would go back to square one quickly.

Hi everyone, starting tomorrow, nervous but excited. Question, I have ordered from Zava, do they provide an alcohol wipe? Do we all use a wipe and if they don't provide it, will it be safe to use without?

I have never ordered from zava so I don't know if they provide alcohol wipes. Medexpress did but independent pharmacy didn't. I have never used an alcohol wipe on my skin before an injection, I also wouldn't recommend using one on the pen as Ive seen some do either.

SilenceInside · 03/10/2024 20:06

The instructions from Eli Lilly that come with the pen do say to swab the red seal on the end of the pen before attaching the needle. I don't swab my skin though.

I've never got wipes with my pens from Zava.
I bought a box of pre injection swabs from a pharmacy.

@Waspwine fantastic work! You have inspired me. I am 4 foot 11 and aiming for 9 stone ..got 1 stone 5 pounds to lose. Been on MJ for 6 weeks and lost 9 pounds so it's an average of 1.5 pounds a week. Was feeling despondent but I can see that 1.5 a week is a reasonable result..just need to keep going. I dread to think how many pounds I have gained and lost over the last 50 years. I managed to get down to 9 stone 4 in lockdown andxkwpt most of it off for a couple of years. Now nothing seems to work which I have ended up on MJ. All the very best!

Weigh day for me! New pen still hasn’t arrived from Asda so having an extra day this week
SW- 20.2
CW-14.7
loss this week -4lb
GW-14
so close now! I was aiming for 14 stone by Christmas but might change the goal weight a bit and see how it goes

Hey,

Does anyone find that they lose most weight in first couple of days after the injection, then stall the rest of the week?

Yes, this has been my pattern for the entire time on MJ!

Saltandsauce · 04/10/2024 08:07

Hello lovelies,
so pleased I found this thread, been needing a bit of advice and can’t seem to get a call back from my pharmacy!
Ive been on mounjaro since April, and lost 51lbs in total. I moved up to the 10mg 5 weeks ago, and have barely lost anything, while also having the most horrific side effects. I’m awake from 1am-4am every night with diarrhoea, but barely eat anything. I’ve tried upping my calorie intake and my protein. Have been taking digestive enzymes, apple cider gummies, electrolytes, multivitamins with iron and it’s made no difference. Tbh I have always suffered with the runs throughout this ‘journey’ but this is just horrible. I’m swithering whether to decrease my dose again and see how I get on, but not sure if this is the best thing to do. Has anyone else done this and felt better?
Many thanks!! Xxx

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 04/10/2024 08:07

Bounced back to 101.40kg today but it's absolutely OK because I'm positive this is an output issue and not an input issue.

Once DP has finished going through the 5 stages of grief about his new lifestyle we're planning on returning to the gym too. There's something about the cold weather that just completely puts me off even though once I'm in the gym I am fine.

He has, unsurprisingly, continued to lose weight and it's been extremely difficult to make such a radical change.

I'm hoping by Monday I'm into the 100kg club.

Looked at my bmi chart yesterday and for my height the lowest weight in the green was something like 45.6kg, and I just don't see how that's actually achievable. I can't imagine weighing anything like less than half my current weight. It seems bizarre that I currently weigh 2 of what a healthy me should be. No wonder my knees are knackered.

MounjaroHereICome · 04/10/2024 08:21

Down another 2kg. I was only down 1kg but a good bowel movt solved the last 1kg at night. 🤣

Now 4kg lost in total and just got on my 3rd week.

ThirdStorm · 04/10/2024 08:31

@WeeklyJab I felt like this. I'd say for the first few weeks, and yes some days I only managed 600-800 calories and I had to eat very plain food. I was so overweight I figured a few VLC days weren't going to be an issue so I didn't worry. I was losing for 5 months and remained on 2.5mg for my whole journey. Some of us are really sensitive to it. I'm now trying to maintain although I'm still taking MJ for a short while longer.

SnacklessWonder · 04/10/2024 10:23

Just ordering my third pen. Have decided to stay on 5mg as I am losing well (3lb already this week?) and suppression is high, most days I am struggling to get past 800 calories as I forget to eat.

So I think staying on 5mg is the right thing to do, yes?

Mine seems to follow a bit of a pattern of stalling for anywhere between 4-7 days, small drop and then off we go again!
