Jimmyneutronsforehead · 28/09/2024 09:10

It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)
Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro link below:
Promo codes :

Miss Mounjaro UK has the most up to date price comparison charts: https://www.missmounjarouk.com/

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:
https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/carbohydrates-and-diabetes/carbs-and-cooking
https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

@Thanksforyourlackofthought - you could buy a Frio wallet from Amazon. They work by running the gel pack under cold water. That way you could take your pens with you and keep them fridge cold with no need for freezer packs. I’ve bought one for travel next weekend.

Frio packs don't keep pens at fridge temperature.

A fridge is normally under 5c, the frio keeps things between 18c and 26c, so room temperature.

Checking in as it's weigh day for me and I'm at the lowest weight I've been for 10 years!

SW: 240.8lbs (17st 2lbs)
CW: 179.2lbs (12st 11lbs)

61.6lbs (4st 5lbs) lost.

It's a great feeling accepting invites to upcoming festive events without the dread of what I was going to wear/ how I was going to look in photos.

I'm starting to get the comments of "oh you don't need to lose anymore, they'll be nothing left on you" from 'well-meaning' family/ friends. 🙄 I'm still very much in the overweight category of BMI, so there's a fair bit more to go. So that's getting annoying.

Hope everyone has a good week/ good November!

letshavetea · 04/11/2024 09:15

@WorriedRelative - you’re quite right. Sorry for my mistake! I looked at so many products and think as I’m needing to keep my own pen cool (which it will) during travel that’s what caused the confusion in my mind. Can quite see it won’t suit everyone.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 04/11/2024 10:00

I've lost a kilo (that I'd already lost and regained)!

Now we're into November my family are begging me to make some eggnog and it's like some accidental tradition that on the evenings they pop in, which is many, after bonfire night we all share a few tipples but it's so calorie dense and I don't actually know how many calories either because I measure with my heart.

I'm wondering if there's a way I can make eggnog with erythritol instead of sugar to make it less calorific or if I'm just resigned to watching everyone else enjoy my hard work.

I’ll worry about the money later….just ordered on Superdrug. Got a lot of weight to loose, but I’ll be happy with a stone before Christmas…wish me luck! 🍀

Good luck! Hopefully you'll find MJ related savings that help the budget - less wine / takeaways/ snacks.

If you get a pen again may be worth looking at price comparison sites as lots cheaper than Superdrug out there.. monj.co.uk

@Jimmyneutronsforehead What about making it with the half and half as a compromise?

Hey, check out this product www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/255524836

I did not know this even existed. Thank you so much. I think I'll make 2 batches, one with full sugar and one with this and I'll be back to update.

Thanks there’s 33% off with superdrug, but still not as cheap as some of those. Are they all legit pharmacies? I wanted to go with a well known name so didn’t get anything dodgy!

Snozzlemaid · 04/11/2024 13:52

All on here are legitimate pharmacies https://monj.co.uk

Their GPHC number is listed so you can check if necessary.

Hi lovelies. I did make thread 23, but it's done some weird HTML thingy, I'm not a technical person, so I've reported the thread, hoping they'll delete it, and I'm going to make another one once I've had a response. I don't think it liked how many hyperlinks were on the thread so I'm going to have to work out how to get round that as we've gotten quite a few links to sources.

Perhaps I'll make the intro post, and then a separate post for hyperlinks.

Bare with me

I had a spare 2.5mg from when I got an extra one before moving up to 5mg. Then I ordered another 5mg after being on it for two months and just after ordering I realised I should’ve gone up a dose. So I decided to improvise.

Its basically me ordering too soon and impulsively

I wasn't being judgy by the way so hope it didn't come across as such. I was just curious as I know some people split doses. I've not tried that yet. I had 5 weeks of 5mg which really didn't have the same effect on me as previous doses of 2.5, 3 & 3.75mg. I had 5.8mg this week (what was left in the pen) & today I'm feeling green to the gills. My kids weren't feeling well on Friday though so not sure if it's a lurgy or randomly the extra 0.8mg hit hard. Haven't decided whether to go to 7.5mg next week or try a 6\6.5mg instead.
Did you take your 2 doses together or split over the week?

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 04/11/2024 23:10

Thread 23 is live! Sort of.

I haven't included everything I had originally tried to post for fear of breaking it again, and not having the time to do it all over, so I've got everything backed up on my laptop ready to post tomorrow but I think we have got the basics and the signpost material up.

If you can help me fill this one up first it would be very appreciated.

Also does any one have any favourite WIEIAD threads or channels that they want me to include links to on the new thread for some more community inspiration?

@IHateMozzies I lost 20lb in my first month, but I had a lot to lose. I think it depends on how your body reacts to the meds, I could barely eat the first month, had to force myself. But like I say, I had a lot to lose!
